NUC7i5BNH video choppy

$

I have a NUC7i5BNH connected to a Samsung ua55c6900 TV via the HDMI port. This is a older TV running 1920x1080p. The video playback is choppy and not smooth. This is for streaming from netflix or local stuff off the hard-drive. I've got all the latest drivers apart from the HDMI2.0 firmware update. I can't do this because I don't have any HDMI2.0 devices to plug in. My $50 raspberry pi has smooth playback and so does my laptop so the high powered NUC should be fine. Any help?

Intel RealSense SR300 runs on NUC6I5SYK but not on NUC7I5BNK/BNH (usb power issues)

In the Intel RealSense forums there are several discussions about power problems with the sensor. This is due to limited power supply from the USB 3 ports.

With the 6th gen NUC, the sensor works fine, but with the new 7th gen versions, there seems to be power issues. I tried to connect it to all possible USB ports (even with an adapter to the USB3c). I deactivated all possible power saving options in Windows, but the problem stays the same. The sensor works fine when I connect it to an external active USB hub though - so it's definitely a problem of the NUC. I already updated to the newest BIOS and latest sensor drivers.

This was tested on 5 NUCs - 3 of 6th gen and 2 of the 7th gen (all i5 versions).

Is there any way to fix this?

How to power two HDD on NUC 7i3BNH?

Hi there!

I would like to purchase a NUC 7i3BNH in order to build up a DIY pc removing the NUC board from the case (I don't care about warranty, but maybe shoul be better if I purchase the lone board 7i3BNB).

I need to power a couple of  SATA HDD instead  an M.2 SSD and a SATA SSD according to the NUC  board specifications.

I would like to put a 2,5" 1TB HDD on the M.2 slot through a M.2-SATA adaptor, and a 3.5" 1.5TB HDD on the SATA port, but I can't figure out if the board could provide enough power to run smoothly the two HDD.

I have also thought to put the 3.5" HDD on an USB3 port through an adapter (maybe the orange one).

Any suggestion?

I don't want to purchase new SSD.

Thanks in advance!

NUC6CAYH screen turns black for a second

Hi. I`m having issues with a recently buyed NUC6CAYH. The screen will randomly turn completely black for a second or two. (it happend once every 4 or 5 minutes or once every 4 to 5 seconds)

It has windows 10 Pro installed with latest bios (040) and drivers installed.

It is connected via VGA cable to a LCD display (resolution: 1440x900@60Hz).

The things i`ve tried so far:

  • lowering the display resolution to other than the native display stops the flickering or at least makes it less frequent.
  • I had keyboard, mouse and two printers connected to a back USB port through a 2.0 USB hub. removing the USB hub eliminate de flickering (or at least it has not flicker once in about an hour) [Hub works flawlessly in other PCs]
  • Connecting mouse keyboard and two USB hdds makes the flickering happen at least once every 30 minutes.

Thanks in advance and excuse my english.

Skull Canyon (NUC6i7KYK) can't do >2 channel audio via HDMI?????

Specs: Win10x64 (build ~Jul.1/'17, fully patched), Drivers all patched up, HDMI->TV->SoundBar (via ARC)

So. ... Why does my sound-settings limit me to 2-channel only? Everything seems legit but it just won't offer higher than 1995 sound quality. It's really ticking me off. Same setup next to the NUC from Xbox One and my SoundBar shows DTS. From NUC, 2-channel. BAH!!!

I've tried:

- uninstalling display driver, reboot, reinstall

- patching HDMI Firmware to February's release

- different cables (all are HDMI2.0 compliant)

- different ports on TV (my TV has a bunch of 30hz ports, and one 60hz)

Has anyone else dealt with this and found a resolution?

Black Screen with 3D Games on a brand new Skull Canyon with LG 5K thunderbolt display

$

HI,

I'm running a new Skull Canyon device along with a new LG 5K (27MD5KA-B) thunderbolt monitor. It's a pretty plain install of Windows 10 pro, the intel utility to download all the latest drivers, and steam to play some games.

If I want to play full screen 3D games with the LG monitor, I get a black screen. Anything 3d - Wolfenstein, HL2, TF2, etc. Anything else is fine.

If I attempt to play them with a standard HDMI monitor, the games work fine.

I've completed a full wipe and install just to cover that area. The thunderbolt firmware has been updated to the latest, and the utility is installed to 'authorise' the monitor.

I'm attaching the output of the SSU.

Any help to resolve this would be greatly appreciated!

Is the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver required without RAID drives?

$

I was working on a NUC6i5SYH and the computer was blue-screening quite often.  Basically no one wanted to use this machine due to the number of blue-screen events.  The machine would boot and then actions like moving around in the file system and opening a browser and browsing when the Intel RST would load (on the delayed start) would generally cause the machine to begin to be unresponsive.  Attempting further actions at this point would end in a Windows 10 blue-screen.  Allowing the machine to boot and stabilize for several minutes the computer would function until something graphics intensive would seem to set off the blue-screen problem.  The memory was tested extensively and the the hard drive diagnostics were run.  Windows system file checker was run.  All of these tests indicated nothing was wrong.  After seeing the correlation to the system going unresponsive at the Intel RST load I removed the Intel RST driver.  It appears that the machine is quite usable now so I am wondering if this Intel RST driver was required at all.  None of the drives are configured in RAID but I thought there were some benefits to the Rapid Storage Technology for non-RAID drives.

NUC 6i7kyk just started rebooting spontaneously

I've had the system for 4 months and it works great for the most part but recently it started rebooting itself randomly--at least a couple times a day.  I ran a windows memory test and the test said I have a memory problem that should be addressed by the manufacturer.

Before I pursue that I thought it would make sense to try to update all the drivers and BIOS. It looks like most drivers and the bios all have updates since I bought the system in April 2017.  I downloaded the driver bundle and found on-line the recommendations to do the updates manually instead of using the Intel Driver Update Utility.  I'm about to get started but since I'm not a hardware/BIOS/Drivers expert I thought I post a question:

Is my approach here the right one?  That is, to update everything before trying to get the memory vendor to replace the memory?  Or is this just a waste of time?

Thanks.

NUC6CAYH switch on with Remote not working

$

I am using 3 different Nuc with Libreelec 8.0 as HTPC connected with HDMI to TV : DN2820FYKH NUC5PPYH and NUC6CAYH

All Nucs have the same XBOX360 Media Remote connected

The DN2820FYKH NUC5PPYH can be switched on with this remote, but not the NUC6CAYH

The internal CIR is activated and the Remote is working switch off is working and so on but not switch on.

Latest Bios (29) is installed. CEC is activated, so the Nuc starts when TV gets switch on and when switch off the Nuc, the TV switched off too

When the CEC is deactivated it is not possible to switch on the NUC (also when its enabled) with the Remote only with the Power-button

In the Bios i have set to start from S3/S4/S5 via CIR, played around with the settings, but unable to switch the Nuc on with the Remote

Also the Nuc starts by itself after switch off sometimes, sometime switching the TV also on, sometimes not

The NUC6CAYH is connected via HDMI with a Toshiba 40XV733G

Any suggestion what i am doing wrong ?

NUC6CAYS - Random boot freeze

$

Hi,

I'm experiencing boot Issue with the NUC6CAYS + Ubuntu Server 16.04.02 LTS (kernel 4.8), Ubuntu Server 17.04 (kernel 4.10) and even with the UEFI USB Installer.

  • BIOS Version 0038 and 0040 tested
  • HDMI 2.0 Firmware fix.
  • Default values in bios except: eMMC is disabled + supervisor password set ( I tried without a supervisor set too). Also tried the UEFI OS Selection to Linux, same issue
  • ADATA SP550 SSD is installed inside

Here is the story:

  • First I installed Ubuntu Server 16.04.02 LTS with HWE Stack (Kernel 4.8), everything was working fine BUT I noticed that sometimes, after a reboot, my NUC was stuck on a black screen right after the GRUB Menu.

  • I decided to give Kernel 4.10 a try so I installed Ubuntu Server 17.04 (kernel 4.10) and nothing else except updates. I did a small script to restart the computer every 30 seconds or so and again, randomly, the NUC was not rebooting. I see the GRUB Menu with Ubuntu selected and after the 2 seconds timeout, screen go black and nothing more happen.

  • After hours and hours of debugging and trying to find what the problem was, I decided to use a brand new SSD (same model) that I had on hand.
    • Disconnected the power of the NUC
    • Replaced my SSD
    • Connected my Ubuntu Server 17.04 USB installer made with Rufus
    • Connected power
    • Started NUC
    • Pressed F10 on boot, selected my USB and displayed the GNU GRUB Menu where I selected * Install Ubuntu Server and.....the same issue occurred,  black screen and nothing!!
    • I restarted the computer and tried it again... this time the Ubuntu Server installer started correctly.
    1. Boot
    2. Wait for GRUB Menu (eMMC is disabled and ssd brand new, so the USB boot automatically)
    3. Press Enter to start installation
    4. If the installer start, press CTRL+ALT+DELETE and do it again.
  • I did it again, and again, again, at least 30 times without any issue than, after many retries same problem, black screen and nothing!

It's totally Random and really seems to be a BIOS issue to me since this time. When the black screen happen, ctrl+alt+del do nothing. I have to long press the power button for about 5 seconds to power off the NUC.

I should have a brand new NUC6CAYH tomorrow to test if it's specific to my NUC or not, since I already have NIC issue with this one but I need it for development (NUC6CAYS - Ethernet Issue )

Tested with a brand new NUC6CAYH, a different 4GB Kingston memory module and a different brand SSD (PNY) - Same Issue

Procedure to reproduce the issue in this post: Re: NUC6CAYS - Random boot freeze and can be downloaded here: https://communities.intel.com/servlet/JiveServlet/download/485079-171358/RebootScript.md.zip

My NUC isn't waking up

$

Hello all,

After working on building up my NUC, thinking I'm going to have a sweet running computer for years and years, I'm wondering now if I'm still going to be using this computer!  This is currently working into being a pain.  The computer doesn't want to wake up after being idle for 10 minutes or more.  I have to hit the power button on monitor two or three times to wake the computer up!  It looks like something is starting to happen when I wake the computer up with mouse movement, but the process never finishes.  The closest I get is "Cable Disconnected".  This has nothing to do with the OS, (Win 10 Pro) as I was getting the same problem when using multiple Linux OSs too.  This has to do with BIOS or the hardware and firmware before the OS.

Any suggestions how to remedy this?

NUC6i3SYH Video and Audio Issues

$

I have a NUC6i3SYH (16gb Crucial DDR4 2133RAM (2x8GB), 256GB Intel M.2, 27" LG 27UD58 Monitor running up to date windows 10) and have 2 issues with it:

1. The audio: on first boot the audio doesn't work. If you restart the computer (which takes an age if the audio isn't working) it will work when it re-starts. This is just mildly annoying and never used to be like this. Is this something windows update has broken? I have updated the bios to SY0061.BIO as I was running one 57 or something equally old and it's not made any difference? Windows normally boots in a matter of seconds and when the audio is working restarts very quickly.

2. I'm getting some flicker on part of the screen. I'm unclear if this is down to the monitor or the gpu? It's a fairly recent problem and seems worse if the computer has been on for a while making me wonder if it's an issue with the GPU and heat? Where is the best place to start trouble shooting this issue? Or is it a known issue with the NUC?

Thanks in advance.

UEFI and PXE/WDS for 7th Gen NUC Non-functional

$

So this was mentioned in another discussion that was marked as answered but looks to have just been abandoned by the original poster (Thread 115121).  I am seeing UEFI PXE boot problems on the 7th gen nucs similar to what was mentioned in that thread.  We have 50+ of each of the following NUC models...D34010WYK, NUC5i3RYK, NUC6i5SYK.  All of them transitioned fairly well from Legacy PXE Boot to UEFI PXE Boot (Some did need BIOS updates but that is to be expected).  However our newest stock of NUC7i5BNK's will not boot to PXE in UEFI (BIOS updated and all).  The options exist in the BIOS options and the device recognizes and serves up the option to network boot.  Selecting the IPv4 boot option event initiates the process and sees the network (Media detected message), but it wont go any further.  I can even flip the device to non-secure boot non-UEFI, and PXE boot the device perfectly fine using Legacy network boot.  I would REALLY prefer to move forward and not build the newest NUCs in legacy mode while all the older model NUCs transition over to UEFI and secure boot.

Cannot get 2560x1440 output on NUC6i7KYK via HDMI

I have just purchased my first NUC Skull Canyon and I have connected it to my Samsung S27B971D WQHD monitor. However, 2560x1440 is not listed in the available resolutions. I have also tried to add it manually through Intel Iris Graphics Control Panel but I am getting "The custom resolution exceeds the maximum bandwidth capacity". 3 different HDMI cables I have tried with no success. I am pretty sure that I can get this resolution through DisplayPort but currently I do not have one. I am pretty sure I can get it through HDMI as well, as I have read that 4K is supported through HDMI on this machine.

NUC6CAYH - Can't install SteamOS from USB

$

I've tried everything I've thought of trying to install SteamOS:

http://store.steampowered.com/steamos/buildyourown

I have followed the instructions and unzipped to my USB, but it appears the USB drive isn't being picked up by the machine. In BIOS, only the following show up in Boot Devices:

UEFI : LAN : IP4 Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller

UEFI : LAN : IP6 Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller

In the Advanced -> Boot -> Boot Configuration menu, I have tried various combos on "OS Selection" and "Boot USB Devices First", but I would expect the logical selections to be "Linux" and "Yes" (these are the only things I changed away from the default).

Any help appreciated as I'm all out of ideas.

Is the NUC6CAYS really only 8GB RAM max?

$

While I've decided that the NUC6CAYS is the perfect system for my needs, and will be purchasing one here soon, I'm wanting to upgrade the RAM. Almost everything I read is that it's only upgradeable to 8GB RAM max.

However, there was a user comment on the Amazon product page that said he was able to use the G.SKILL Ripjaws 16GB (2x8G) kit with no problem, no error message, and that his system does indeed register the full 16GB.

Is this true??
