NUC6i3SYH Video and Audio Issues

$

I have a NUC6i3SYH (16gb Crucial DDR4 2133RAM (2x8GB), 256GB Intel M.2, 27" LG 27UD58 Monitor running up to date windows 10) and have 2 issues with it:

1. The audio: on first boot the audio doesn't work. If you restart the computer (which takes an age if the audio isn't working) it will work when it re-starts. This is just mildly annoying and never used to be like this. Is this something windows update has broken? I have updated the bios to SY0061.BIO as I was running one 57 or something equally old and it's not made any difference? Windows normally boots in a matter of seconds and when the audio is working restarts very quickly.

2. I'm getting some flicker on part of the screen. I'm unclear if this is down to the monitor or the gpu? It's a fairly recent problem and seems worse if the computer has been on for a while making me wonder if it's an issue with the GPU and heat? Where is the best place to start trouble shooting this issue? Or is it a known issue with the NUC?

Thanks in advance.

Dave

NUC won't stay awake

Im using a NUC6CAYH primarily as a 24/7 media server. I've set the power options under Win 10 as appropriate and even installed the mouse jiggler program. I can get it to stay awake for about three days maximum but then it crashes, sometimes less, requiring me to unplug and reboot.

Any suggestions?

NUC6i7KYK vs. NUC7i7BNH - NOISE factor for HTPC use

Hello my friends,

I have an old intel nuc - NUC5I7RYH.

I decided I want to buy a new one. At first thought to buy - NUC6i7KYK (skull canyon)

However, while reading about this model in this forum I found many said it is noisy even in idle.

So, I looked around and found the next model - NUC7i7BNH.

I am going to install on it:

Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133 MHz SO-DIMM Memory Kit (2 x 16GB)

Samsung 512GB 960 PRO M.2 Internal SSD

The main use is for HTPC - streaming and watching videos, web and perhaps in the future as a home pc with a little graphic usage - editing video.

But, the main use will be for watching and streaming video content from web.

what do you think would be the best model and the quieter model.

I don't want to be stucked with a model which will make noise and ruin the fun of watchin movies in my living room.

Is anyone tried them both and can tell me how noisy they are?

TNX ahead,

Zeev

Skull Canyon Temperature Constantly at 60 degrees - Fan Noise

Just operated today my brand new Skull Canyon NUC6i7KYK. I am amazed by the performance of this machine, however, the fan drives me crazy with its constantly spinning around 3000 rpm.

I have left the machine operating in bios for an hour and the CPU got from 60 to 70 degrees. How can that be possible for a machine that actually does nothing?

I am attaching two screenshots one from the BIOS and one from Windows, both where the system actually is in an idle state.

INTEL NUCi7 3D MVC ISSUE

Coming from Intel NUC DN2820 I was able to play 3D MVC with Kodi with new Intel Media SDK, I just purchased Intel NUC NUC7i3BNK and 3D playback doesn't work.

On the Intel NUC DN2820, the resolution was set 1920X1080p 3D and everything works great

On the Intel NUC NUC7i3BNK either I set the 1920X1080p 3D or  3820X2160p 3D doesn't work

The Intel Media SDK was supposed to allow 3D MVC to work, I did some testing and found the HDMI 2.0 connection is the one causing the issue and any NUC with HDMI 2.0 doesn't work/

NUC6CAYH screen turns black for a second

Hi. I`m having issues with a recently buyed NUC6CAYH. The screen will randomly turn completely black for a second or two. (it happend once every 4 or 5 minutes or once every 4 to 5 seconds)

It has windows 10 Pro installed with latest bios (040) and drivers installed.

It is connected via VGA cable to a LCD display (resolution: 1440x900@60Hz).

The things i`ve tried so far:

  • lowering the display resolution to other than the native display stops the flickering or at least makes it less frequent.
  • I had keyboard, mouse and two printers connected to a back USB port through a 2.0 USB hub. removing the USB hub eliminate de flickering (or at least it has not flicker once in about an hour) [Hub works flawlessly in other PCs]
  • Connecting mouse keyboard and two USB hdds makes the flickering happen at least once every 30 minutes.

Thanks in advance and excuse my english.

NUC7i5BNH - Dual 1080p screen flickering issue

Hi everyone,

So i recently purchased an Intel NUC 7th Generation i5 (NUC7i5BNH) with 8GB Crucial Memory (1x 8Gb) & Samsung 960 EVO NVMe M.2 SSD, along with Dual LG 27MP68HM 1080p monitors.

I am running the latest BIOS v.0050 & graphics drivers.

I am using the HDMI Cable that came with the monitor and i am using a usb-c to HDMI dongle. If I run a single monitor whether its direct HDMI or via USB-C dongle I don't have any issues or any flickers on the monitor. but if I am running both monitors (in extended mode) both my monitors keep flickering every few seconds... usually the flicker lasts less than a second so i cannot make out what it is, but sometimes i've noticed its vertical line along the bottom half of one monitor & horizontal lines along the middle & bottom end of the second monitor.

I've switched cables, i've swapped monitors around & didn't notice any issues running single monitor.. usually when i am watching Youtube or any video on one montior & have a website open on the other thats when i see screen flicker. but sometimes its even when there is nothing on either of the screens.

I will try to create a video and upload on Youtube to show what i mean but that's all i can explain as of now, i Know there is an similar thread here for 4k display but mine is 1080p.

Unusable NUC 6i7KYK after BIOS update to 049

$

I've been usuing my NUC Skull Canyon since last January without any problem. In fact, I was quite satisfied with it.

About three weeks ago, I started experiencing freezes (the video output, either HDMI or DisplayPort, was frozen and the system didn't respond to any keyboard or mouse input) or Windows' blue screens of death.

Sometimes these issues are related to device drivers, so I decided to update all the drivers to the last version available at the Drivers & Software section for this computer. The last one was the BIOS update 049, which was downloaded at Download BIOS Update [KYSKLi70.86A]. The update method I selected was Express BIOS update [KYSKLi70.86A.0049.EB.EXE].

The express update process rebooted my PC, updated the BIOS and booted into Windows again. After logon, I was notified that the update process was successful.

However, even though the system seemed much more stable, it became frozen after using it for an hour or so (before, it didn't take more than 5 minutes to block). Since that happened, I haven't been able to boot the system again. The boot screen with the Intel NUC logo does not even appear, and the system just keeps rebooting every half minute approximately. The power-on LED stais static and only powers off during these reboots.

I've tried to perform a BIOS recovery using BIOS Recovery Update Instructions for Intel® NUC. However, the system keeps boot-looping as I've just described before, no matter what recovery option I use (tried both Power Button Menu and Security Jumper alternatives). I tried changing the video output (both HDMI and Display Port), changing the display monitor, and introducing my USB flash drive in different USB ports, but the flash drive light never indicated any activity.

Is there any other option I can try?

PS: I've installed the following components:

- Crucial 32GB (2 x16GB) DDR4 KIT. I tried using both modules and using either of the two (pluging the other out of the motherboard), but made no difference.

- Intel 600p series SSD 512GB. I tried booting without, but neither made any difference.

NUC7i5BNH Support for 2560x1440@60 over HDMI Issue (plus audio)

$

Just finished bringing up my NUC7i5BNH with a clean install of Windows 10.

When the generic Windows driver was in charge before I installed the Intel Graphics driver, I had the native 2560 x 1440 displayed on my monitor over the HDMI cable. As soon as I installed the iGFX driver (GFX_WIN10_64_15.46.2.1.4729) the display dropped to 1920 x 1080 and I cannot for the life of me find a way to return to the display's native resolution.

I tried a custom setting in the Intel Graphics Setting application and it says that the requested setting is outside the bandwidth limitations for the device (which it shouldn't be).

Under the "Options and Support" section of the Intel Graphics Setting application, the application does see that 2560 x 1440 @ 60p Hz is a supported monitor mode. The monitor is from Monoprice and it's a 27" display.

The Intel Driver Update Utility doesn't register a version number for the graphics driver and reports it as "Unknown".

I don't know if it's related, but the system also doesn't recognize the audio capabilities of the monitor either.
