Will a mini PCIe SATA RAID controller work in a NUC?

Is it possible to use a NUC's mPCIe slot for a SATA II RAID controller?

I understand the latest i5 NUCs have three types of expansion:

1) SATA port + SATA power connector

2) mSATA slot

3) mini PCI Express slot (mPCIe)

I also understand that the mini PCI Express port (beneath the mSATA slot) is generally reserved for optional wireless cards.

I see two possible configurations allowing for a boot drive on either the mPCIe slot, or the mSATA slot, followed by the disk controller:

1. Using an mSATA SSD chip for boot and OS in the mSATA port, with the mini PCI express slot for the SATA II RAID controller listed above, then plugging two 2.5" 2TB 15mm drives in RAID 1 configuration for auxiliary storage and redundancy.
   
   
2. Plugging in a 2.5" SATA SSD for boot and OS, using the integrated extra SATA port and SATA power connectors, with the mini PCI express slot for the SATA II RAID controller listed above, and plugging two 2.5" 2TB 15mm drives in RAID 1 configuration for auxiliary storage and redundancy.

How can I provide additional power necessary for the 2x 2TB 2.5" drives? I see a white plasticky 2-pin power connector on the motherboard; could that be used to connect two SATA power cables?

I do not yet own a NUC, nor any of the hardware I've mentioned above. I plan to use a custom case for the NUC, as the ones supplied by Intel are are too small for three 2.5" drives, or one mSATA SSD and two 2.5" drives, so I'm not worried about the physical constraints unless they interfere with the NUC motherboard itself.
