NUC5i5RYH, no boot drive with Samsung SSD EVO M.2, 120GB

I'm having an issue with brand new NUC5i5RYH.  I cannot get the SSD M.2 drive to be recognized in BIOS or by Windows 8.1 or 7 install flash drive.  UEFI BIOS shows:  Boot Drive Order:  No Boot Drive.  I have triple check installation in NUC and there doesn't seem to be much that could go wrong.  However, it seems odd that that SSD M.2 card has 2 small cut outs (B+M keyed), while the NUC M.2 connector has a single notch and seems designed for M keyed.  I though M.2 could accept both M and B+M keyed,  or do I have that wrong?    I broke down and called Intel support and they think the SSD is defective, though I bought everything new for this build.   Am I missing something in BIOS or should I try new SSD M.2?

Thanks

jimmy

Configuration:  (planning to use as HTPC, streaming from NAS)

NUC5i5RYH

- RAM just fine - Corsair 2x4GB, 1866Mhz, DDR3L, model-  CMSX8GX3M2B1866C10

- SSD, problem - Samsung SSD 850 EVO M.2, 120GB, model - MZ-N5E120BW

PS.  I have decided to return Samsung 850 EVO SSD and purchase something off the Test Peripherals list, probably Intel SSD  530 series - 180 GB SSDSCKGW180A401
