D54250WYKH Audio Interface Dissappears from Win8.1 When Headphone Disconnects

I have a D54250WYKH running Windows 8.1 Enterprise that I'm using for an audio project.  This project requires that one application send sounds to the Realtek speakers when a headphone (or anything) is plugged into the front panel audio connector.  A second metering/oscilloscope analyzer application is using the "Stereo Mix" to receive those sounds.  I do not need to monitor those sounds on speakers or headphones.  When I disconnect the headphone on the front panel, the Realtek audio shuts down and the applications fail.  Does anyone know of a way to stop the Realtek audio interface from shutting down when the jack is disconnected?  I am looking to force the Realtek audio interface to remain active at all times.
