NUC6i5SYK freezing after Win10 update

$

Was working on my computer last night, my NUC froze out of nowhere - audio just cut and repeated a "errr" sound, keyboard and mouse input stopped working. Restarted the computer (power button), mouse and keyboard would work for about two seconds (literally) then freeze. Reinstalled Win10, and everything was working smooth until updates started installing. I noticed in the update package there was an Intel 540 Graphics update, but not sure if that's related. Regardless, during the installation of the updates the same problem occurred and the NUC is unusable - marginally above a brick.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a workaround? I changed my Win10 update settings to not be automatic, but didn't catch a way to choose which updates are installed (like on 7 or XP), nor am I sure which update is causing the issue.

Setup is: NUC6i5SYK, Samsung 850 M2 SSD, and 32GB of G.Skill Ripjaws 2133.

Edit: corrected setup

NUC6i5SYK wont boot

I have just bought a NUC6i5SYK

First thing I tried was to install both my 1x 8Gb 2400Mhz Kingston HyperX ram and my OCZ Agility 120Gb SSD.

When doing this, nothing happens. No BIOS, no flashing LED's, no Windows.

I have tried removing both the SSD & the RAM, but here there's no change, still no BIOS, and the NUC doesn't complain with noises (Yes, I have tried with headphones plugged into the minijack) or anything else to indicate that something is wrong.

I have tried downloading this BIOS: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25550/BIOS-Update-SYSKLi35-86A-

And then follow this guide: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/boards-and-kits/000005532.html to upgrade the BIOS.

As I couldn't see anything on the screen, and no LED's were flashing, I just let it be for 15 minutes, then powered the unit off, put the jumper in place, and bootet up the device. This didn't do anything either.

I don't know what to try next. Does anyone have an idea?

When I put it to sleep from windows 10, it shuts off the monitor but the nuc itself is fully on. It does not seem to go into a low-power state like other PC's. Wondering if this is normal.

Need help to install window 10 on samsung 950 pro in nuci7ryh

Hello everyone,

I spend two days and still not be able to get it done. Please anyone with experience with this problem can help me. Sorry for the long story but this is my situation.

My nuc5i7ryh that runs Window 10 Home (bios 86A.0350.2015.0812.1722). When I first got the nuc, I bought a retail version of Window 7 Home and installed it on the nuc. Then later on I upgraded to Window 10 Home on 8/2015 and was using the nuc just fine from that day. At first, I only installed a Samsung 850 Evo in it so I recently decided to add another drive to it to make one for the OS and the other for data storage. I got the Samsung 950 Pro and used the Samsung Migration Tool to migrate Window 10 from the Evo to the Samsung 950 Pro. Everything worked fine. I was able to boot from the new 950 Pro just fine. I then reformatted the Evo to make it a storage drive as I wanted. All worked fine and I was able to use my nuc just fine. Things were all good until after I copied some of my folders and files from an external drive to my nuc's desktop. I saved those folders and files to an external files before this migration process and now I just want to copy them back to my nuc. I really not sure what was wrong with it but after I did that, I was no longer to boot from my Samsung 950 Pro again. The nuc does not work any more. When I power it up, it never gets to the window login page. A message pop up saying it attempts to repair the error...but it will never fix it. There are some other advanced options that I can choose but none of the helps. It not lets me to restore or anything. So I decided to do a clean re-installation of Window 10 on the Samsung 950 Pro. I chose to go with a clean installation using the USB (as the instructions in this page https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10) but it did not work for me. It failed with message "windows cannot be installed on this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style.". So I google sear and find some instructions in this thread: (http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...62af309?page=2). I followed one of the instruction that convert the MBR partition of the disk but it still did not work. At this time, the first error is gone but now it has another error message "Windows can not be installed to this disk. This computer hardware may not support booting to this disk..."

So I decided to create the bootable usb using rufus with the iso window file I downloaded from microsoft page. Unfortunately, that approach did not work for me either.

Here are what I have done.

1- created the uefi bootable usb using rufus with the ISO (chose GPT partition). Then enter my nuc bios screen and set it to boot from this usb but it did not boot and not let me to the window setting screen. So I think maybe I got some file corrupted or so.

2- re-did everything in 1 again and got the same results. It did not boot from the USB and did not get to the window installation screen.

3- So I did it again but this time I chose MBR partition scheme, NTFS file system. After that, I was able to boot from the USB and got to the window installation screen, chose custom install...But when I chose the disk to install window it said "window can not be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this dish. Ensure that the disk controller is enabled in the computer's bios menu".

What can I do now ? Any suggestion ?

Thanks a lot in advance.

As a note, I have both UEFI and legacy checked in my nuc bios menu.

I bought a refurbished Intel NUC (Model DC53427HYE) back in Oct 2015. It works great but the fan is getting quite loud and sounds about ready to fail. I'd rather replace it now before it goes. Does anyone know the part number for a replacement ? I see a few for sale on eBay but they don't list the models they fit.

Thanks in advance,

Intel NUC 6th Generation HDMI Blank Screen

$

I have an Intel NUC6i3SYH with GX driver 15.40.13.4331 connected via HDMI to a Onkyo AV receiver and my issue is same as the one below

When changing input sources on the receiver and then coming back to the NUC's HDMI source, a black screen appears.

The only way to regain a signal is to reboot the NUC but this is not desirable - I wish to leave the NUC running and be able to switch back and forth to other sources

As other people have mentioned it seems that is not an uncommon problem and some other NUC models are suffering from the same HDMI sync/handshake problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, perhaps a revised driver or BIOS is required?

Nuc Bluescreen - System Service Exception when turning off display

Hi There everyone

I have a NUC which runs Windows 7 and is now a Media Centre using Kodi. The unit is connected to my Home Theatre Amp via HDMI, with the amp connected to my HD TV screen.

I can switch between sources using the amplifier, so for example Sky TV, but if I turn off the TV (so if I am listening to music and don't need the screen) when I turn the TV back on the NUC bluescreens with a System Service Exception.

Anyone seen this before? Any ideas on what to do?

Advice appreciated.

Thanks

Hi, I have a NUC6i5SYH that since mid Jan. and it have worked fine so far. But since two days ago I get WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR evry time I start and the NUC shuts down. This is repeated over and over again.

I have tested the DDR4 and HDD through an UBUNTU 15 USB-stick. No errors detected. I also tried to install UBUNTU with poor result. What is wrong?

My BIOS is version 0028.

New NUC6i5SYH has Died?

Hello,

I've had a NUC6i5SYH up and running Windows 10 for just over 2 weeks now.  It was configured with 16GB Micron 2133 memory and a Samsung 950 Pro 512GB SSD.  Nothing was installed in the SATA HDD bay.  It has been working fine until today.

I walked in the room, and the Blue LED on the front of the unit was stuck on.  No video output (HDMI monitor in use).  Monitor was in standby mode.

     - I tried taking out the SSD.  When the unit boots, the Blue LED blinks twice, then stays on.  No video.

     - I tried moving the memory around, trying each module in each slot, and separately (one at a time).  Every boot resulted in the same thing Blue light blinks twice, then stays on.  No video.

     - I get no video output at all during POST.  No messages.

I can't find evidence of what this "beep code" means.  What should I try next?

Thanks,

James

DN2820FYK - no Display Scaling under Win7

Hi folks.

I've just got a DN2820FYK, which after a bit of fuss I got Windows 7 Pro x64 running on.

Problem is, my TV's default overscan setting means that a good part of the screen is not visible.  On my previous machine (DH61AG with Celeron G530) I was able to use the Display Scaling function to reduce the screen size so I could see everything (I think it was reduced by 50%).

However, on the drivers for the DN2820FYK the only option is "Maintain Display Scaling" - I can't change it off this setting to shrink the screen.

What gives?

Windows 7 slow at "starting windows" - nuc6i5syk

Hi,

I have just installed Windows 7 Pro x64.

This is my equipment:

- NUC6i5SYK

- Samsung 950 pro 512GB NVME M2

- Ram 8x2 Kingston 2133 sodimm

- Windows 7 Pro x64

It was hard to install it, but thanks to RLM70 Re: Nuc6i5syk + Samsung 950 pro + 2 Kingston 8 GB 2133 sodimm + W7 pro  I have finally a Nuc working with W7.

After installation I imported further intel drivers (Graphics, Audio, Lan, Wifi, Bluetooth) and to make sure that I didn't loose anytying I have installed again also Usb3 drivers and Samsung 950pro drivers.

After that I have updated W7 untill today (something like 270 updates).

Everything works, but there is a quite odd thing: when I switch on the Nuc, at the step "starting windows" the writing remains freezed without the animated logo for 10-15 sec, after that the animated logo appears and  the procedure continues normally.

I know that 10-15 sec more don't change your life, but it's quite strange that a brand new machine with a windows experience index of 7,2 at that step is much slower than an old computer core 2 duo with a windows experience index of 4,7.

Is there any setting or additional drivers to import to make windows 7 Pro x64 start normally?

Thank you in advance fo the help

What is the correct CPU fan setting in BIOS?

My core i5 skylake nuc's fan is constantly running at ~3000 rpm even when I am not using the PC causing a constant noise. It is getting annoying. In BIOS, the CPU fan is set at "balanced". Should I change that to "quiet" or something else? Any help is appreciated.

NUC6i5SYH + Samsung 950 pro 512 GB maximum read - write speed?

$
0
0

Hi,

Not that I am really dissatisfied with the speed of above mentioned combination as it is faster than anything else in my office, I still have a question about this.

AFAIK the NUC Skylake series has a PCIe 3.0, 4x M.2 interface. The Samsung 950 pro drive should be able to use that interface to the max, resulting in a sequential read speed of around 2500 MB/s, and a sequential write speed of around 1500 MB/s. I have seen this drive do this on an Asus H170 motherboard.

On my NUC Samsung Magician reports 1706 MB/s read and1558 MB/s write. So the expected write speed is met, but the read speed lags behind. It does not look like a temperature throttling issue, as the measurement is taken right after a cold boot. Another performance measurement tool like CrystalDiskMark gets numbers in the same area.

Is there anyone who could shed some light on this? And is anybody getting the maximum speed out of this (or a like) combination?

The setup I use:

- NUC6i5SYH

- Samsung 950 Pro 512 GB attached to the M.2 interface

- 16 GB Kingston HyperX 2133

- 500GB Crucial MX200 attached to the SATA interface

- BIOS 0033

- Windows 10 Pro, booting from the 950

- Latest updates / drivers installed, the driver for the 950 is downloaded from Samsung

- Over provisioning enabled on the 950 for the full suggested 47GB (10%)

Regards,

Paul
