NUC6i7kyk HDMI 2.0 firmware update fails

Hi,

I just purchased this NUC and wanted to updated all the drivers and firmware but the HDMI firmware updater fails. I follow the guideline here:

https://downloadmirror.intel.com/26061/eng/NUC6i7KYK%20HDMI%202.0%20Firmware%20update%20Read%20Me.pdf

I have only 1 HDMI connected to my receiver which has support for HDMI 2.0:

Denon AVR-X4100 7.1.2 A/V Receiver Review - HomeTheaterHifi.com

I also found another thread with the exact same problem and i dont think the answer there is valid to be honest:

nuc6i7kyk hdmi 2.0 firmware update fails: ps176 vs ps175

For one my receiver is HDMI 2.0 capable so the firmware updater should update the firmware.

I'm assuming the firmware needs to be updated no matter if the other end has 2.0 or not. After all this is a Intel updater.

And also when i get the error message "Product ID error!" the firmware update tool hangs. The buttons are greyed and it can not be closed.

I have to kill it through process explorer.

Can you please let me (us) know how we can update our firmware to ensure we get the fix.

Regards

Reza

No POST with display connected after using Integrator Toolkit

Hello,

It's a NUC Kit 6i5SYH

i tried uploading a custom logo into the NUC with the Intel Integrator Toolkit (6.1.3). After several failed tries (resulting in a blank logo) i tried to revert to default by uploading the default logo (Intel_NUC_Default_512x384.jpg).

This seemed to have borked the system seriously. Now the NUC will crash hard before POST when a display is connected.

  • No difference in port - HDMI or Displayport - screen will turn on, but no display, no reaction to keys - only power button reacts (by turning off immediately).
  • System boots perfectly normal into windows 10 when no display is connected. I can connect a display after booting and then it's working nomally.
  • I tried re-installing the BIOS (057) and it looks like it did install something (the LED blinked for 1-2 minutes), but no change.
  • I also tried BIOS recovery, but that didn't seem to do anything (and it also crashed with a display connected)

Is there anything I could do to this poor machine to get it working correctly again?

Best Regards

New NUCs capable of passing through Atmos?

I'm trying to figure out if the NUC7i3BNH is capable of passing through an Atmos signal? In the specs of the NUC it reads "7.1 digital". So I'm not quite sure if this includes a 5.1.2 channel for example. My setup consists of a Denon Atmos-Receiver and I want to run Kodi Krypton.

Refresh lines on DisplayPort 4K screen with NUC6i7KYK Skull Canyon

After having solved (it seems) the last boot issue ( which I will update soon) now I have, every time I boot into windows 10, a sort of delayed refresh on the bottom half of the displayport 4K screen.

Latest bios, latest graphic drivers.

You can see what I mean here Intel® NUC Kit NUC6i7KYK Skull Canyon DisplayPort Issues - YouTube

It's also quite obvious when I scroll up and down on a website, windows folder, etc.. and half the screen reaches a stop before the other half.

Interestingly, if I go to the Intel Graphics Settings panel and I change anything, apply, back to what I had, and apply again, this problem described above does not show any more, making it all even more puzzling.

Has anyone had a similar issue?

I'd like to love this little machine but I'm afraid it's infested with bugs and problems

Why Skull's fan is so noisy?

It only has been two weeks I have had a NUC Skull, I can hear the its fan noise whenever I turn it on. Even on the first day one I turned it on. Sometimes it can be so loud and that makes me want to cry.

The noise gets loud sometimes when I just browse websites, copying files or just do nothing.

Is it normal that the fan should be running all the time when it is on?

If so, I can accept that but the loud noise is really unacceptable.

I have used a couple of laptops from Dell, I never had such experience. The fan quality in Dell seems a lot better. It is almost silent. It gets loud occasionally. While Skull is often!

Why does it have such a bad quality fan built in a expensive machine?

How can I reduce the fan noise? How can I know that whether it is damaged or not?

What exactly can you do with HDMI CEC in the 7th gen NUC?

I just got a 7th gen NUC (7i3BNK) and I'm trying to figure out if I can use HDMI CEC to turn my TV (Vizio with CEC enabled) on and off. When I power the NUC on, the TV turns on automatically. However, that seems to be the extent of it's function.

Is there some software I can use to turn the TV on and off with the NUC? Or is it possible to write something myself with Python? I can't find any useful information on CEC.. it seems like all of the info out there is on how to control other stuff with your TV remote rather than controlling your TV with other devices.

RE2: NUC6i7KYK HDMI sleep issues

I've followed the two other topics related to this and tried the suggestions, but I still have issues with HDMI.

I've updated the BIOS and HDMI firmware, reset the BIOS to default settings, uninstalled and reloaded the latest graphics and audio drivers.

Ultimately, I've isolated one issue:

If Windows 10 is allowed to "sleep" the display, then the HDMI video feed never seems to recover.

One time I disconnected and reconnected the HDMI cable and got a bunch of really small artifacts on a mostly black screen.

I can workaround this issue by turning display sleep off, since I turn my TV off when I'm not using it anyway.

The audio issue is another entirely, that may or may not be related to sleep.

It's true that if the NUC goes to sleep, the audio will not recover.

However, I've also extended my "sleep" timer to 3 hours and come back after turning the TV off for a while (without the NUC ever going to sleep) and the audio still stopped working.

I've never had any such issues with my old Mac mini that was connected to the TV via HDMI.

I've also seen suggestions that AnyNet+ might be causing part of the issues, but disabling it didn't seem to help at all.

Which NUCs Support Two M.2 SSDs Internally?

I had not realized until reading my first review exactly how much faster the M.2 SSDs are compared to the 2.5" SSDs that use any version of SATA interface.   Which of the Intel NUCs support two installed M.2 SSD drives, so that I could mirror the boot device and hopefully minimize impact when one of the two SSDs eventually fails.

Intel BOXNUC6i7KYK1  with Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 32GB Kit (2 x 16GB) DDR4-2400 SODIMM

Everything installed and worked fine…but after about 5 minutes, the NUC6i7KYK turns off then re-starts.  After it turns back on by itself, it asks to edit the BIOS.  Answering NO, the system re-boots and is stable with no issues.

Same result with Crucial 32GB Kit (2 x 16GB) DDR4-2133 SODIMM, part #CT2K16G4SFD8213, DDR4 PC4-17000 • CL=15 • Dual Ranked • x8 based • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR4-2133 • 1.2V • 2048Meg x 64

Same thing happens with DDR4-2133 memory, which is completely compliant with the NUC6i7KYK memory specification.  The NUC6i7KYK shuts down after the first 5 minutes then restarts.

Please advise on how to get the Intel NUC6i7KYK to operate without the very annoying automatic restarts!

Thank you very much!

NUC6i5SYH - Windows 10 random BSODs, Linux freezes

Actually, I found similar requests @ communities.intel.com, but found no answers among a solutions that would help me. So my story is: After about 2 weeks of stable work my NUC started to falloff in BSOD with different stop codes every time. Configuration was next: NUC6i5SYH + 16Gb RAM(2x8Gb Kingston KVR21S15D8/8) + m2 SSD 256Gb(WD Green) + 500Gb SSD SATA (Crucial) + Windows 10 Pro. All drivers was up to date, dowloaded from Intel's drivers page. During 3 days of permanent BSOD hell, I've tried next: Memtested RAM(no errors), Memchecked RAM(no errors), Reinstalled Windows couple of times(BSOD repeated in short time), Installed Linux(Ubuntu, OpenSUSE, both freezes or kernel panic in short time), removed 1 RAM plank, then another, removed m2 SSD(sata only), removed SATA SSD(m2 ssd only), flashed new bios version (was 0051, now 0057). Nothing helps. Any ideas?

NUC7I3BNH HDMI 4k/UHD @ 60Hz only via command line with Ubuntu 16.10

Hi,

I am having lots of trouble with that HDMI connection through Yamaha RX779 to my LG 55EG9606.

First of all the max reported refresh rate is 30.00Hz. Confirmed with xrandr.

Using

cvt --reduced 3840 2160 60

I get a modeline which makes it work, if the NUC is connected to the TV directly. Connecting it through the receiver results in having a black screen with some flicker of color. The HDMI-Logo at the receiver also flickers. Both cables are ~90cm and brand new (Amazon Basics HDMI 2.0 4k 3D Ethernet etc.) - same behaviour with other cables.

Would be great to know if someone else is experiencing the same problems or if this is a firmware/driver issue. To me it looks like a timing/sync issue.

NUC7I3BNH high frequent, electrical noise on HDD activity

Today I watched my first movie with this NUC and got really annoyed by this fizzle, sizzle, high frequent electrical noise which wasn't easy to locate. It's made by the NUC on HDD activity =( Does anybody know if this is a hardware defect or problem, which may result in a broken NUC/HDD on long term? Is there a way to fix it?

Additionally the power supply is humming like a little swarm of bees. I exchanged it with my old NUC's supply. Now none of both makes noise anymore - strange world!!

Intel NUC6i5syh freezing every 6-18 hours

I have this Intel NUC6i5syh that currently runs Windows 10 Pro 1607 x64, that is also fully updated with the latest cumulative update. In addition, VMware Workstation Pro 12.5.2 is installed on the unit and is hosting 5 VMs with 1 core each and 2GB of RAM. The OS currently is running off a samsung 850 evo drive with 32GB of crucial RAM.

Within 6-18 hours of the NUC's uptime, the NUC will "freeze" at the Windows Login screen. When I try to move the mouse or interact with it using the keyboard, no input is registered onscreen. The only way that I have been recovering from this is to hard reset the device from the physical power button.

There are no blue screens, no information in reliability monitor, chkdsk reports no issues, sfc /scannow reports no issues and no errors explaining why Windows is freezing in Event viewer. I have also tested my RAM using memtest86+ and it completed three passes with zero errors. This is a replacement NUC unit that I received from a previous NUC that exhibited this same problem.

Does anyone else have a NUC like mine and experience similar problems? What can I do to fix this?

Hallo zusammen,

NUC 6i7KYB TPM

I'm trying to enable TPM (PTT or fTPM) on the NUC 6i7KYB. I am currently running BIOS 42 (KYSKLi70.086A.0042.2016.0929.1933) which is the newest I can find.  I have turned on PTT in the BIOS and am booting secure UEFI.  I don’t see any the PCRs and my kernel module is throwing an error on loading.  I think I have debugged the problem down to ACPI IO Resources.  The MSFT0101 memory region (as defined in APCI) is at 0xFED40000 – 0xFED4087F.  When the TPM driver (tpm_crb.ko) starts, it reads the command buffer size (0xF80) from the TPM2 command size register and tries to allocate space at starting at 0xFED40080.  This is larger than the size of MSFT0101 and the module loading fails.  So one value is wrong, either the size of MSFT0101 or the command/receive buffer size reported by the TPM2 (PTT) registers.  I have modified the driver to use a smaller buffer size (0x7F0) but that does not work so I think it must require the entire buffer space.

Disassembling the ACPI tables, I can see that the _CRS method returns 0x880 but I don't know enough about ACPI to understand why.  So, is there a newer BIOS I should be using?  I know Intel doesn't like to support Linux, but that is a requirement.  I know that there is active development on this module by several Intel developers and I don't think this is a Linux problem.  Any help would be appreciated.

NUC6i7KyK gpu slows down

$

I have a NUC6i7KYK (skull canyon with Iris Pro Graphics 850) that I would like as part of a larger to be manufactured product.  We are interested due to the enhanced GPU compute ability.  Using C++ Amp we have a benchmark that performs well.  We are running Win10 with the latest BIOS from the Intel Web Site (9/2016).

However when benchmarking for a while - the failure time seems random - the GPU slows down AND DOES NOT RECOVER until rebooting the computer.  Even leaving the computer idle for extended periods of time the benchmark goes 3X slower when started again even when cold.

We are using the default values for all BIOS settings.

The intel Extreme Tuning Utility reports the GPU clock as remaining at 350 MHz, even when cold and will not increase the clock (which should go up to 950 MHz) if the die is not too hot.

This seems like a BIOS or software operating system bug.  Does anyone know how to fix this problem.

Also when running GPU-Z it reports the GPU clock as being 349 MHz and then alternating to 4200 MHz.

Something seems wrong software or BIOS wise.
