NUC7i5BNH video choppy

I have a NUC7i5BNH connected to a Samsung ua55c6900 TV via the HDMI port. This is a older TV running 1920x1080p. The video playback is choppy and not smooth. This is for streaming from netflix or local stuff off the hard-drive. I've got all the latest drivers apart from the HDMI2.0 firmware update. I can't do this because I don't have any HDMI2.0 devices to plug in. My $50 raspberry pi has smooth playback and so does my laptop so the high powered NUC should be fine. Any help?

Black screen booting new install of 16.04.3 Ubuntu Server on NUC6i7KYK

I've just installed Ubuntu Server 16.04 LTS (downloaded this morning) onto an Intel NUC6i7KYK. It starts to boot fine but then I suddenly just get a black screen. (connected via HDMI)

If on the GRUB boot menu I choose the recovery mode and then select to resume boot from there (it warns me that some graphics drivers require a full boot and might fail) then I can boot to a prompt ok. Once I did that I did a sudo apt-get update / sudo apt-get upgrade to ensure everything is up to date but I still get the same behaviour.

On the boot screen the last line before I get a black screen (and the monitor goes to sleep as it thinks it has no input) I can see says the following:

switching to inteldrmfb from VESA VGA

So it looks like there is some kind if graphics problem. I've tried searching for a fix but most reports of similar issues seem to indicate this should not be a problem on 16.04 LTS (kernel version 4.4).

I had already upgraded the BIOS to version 00049 which is the latest available for this NUC on Intel's DownloadCentre.

I'd appreciate any pointers on what to try next.

Thanks!

Activate an unidentified HDMI display - manually switching displayport dual-mode to HDMI mode

Hi,

I'm trying to activate a display. The display has an HDMI port. I'm using a mDP to HDMI cable. The display works fine when connected to another computer using the same cable. However, the NUC doesn't recognize this display (it does recognize other HDMI displays).

If before I connect the display, I connect another HDMI monitor which is recognized, I can activate the unrecognized display by issuing the following commands:

xrandr --newmode 1024x600 48.96  1024 1064 1168 1312  600 601 604 622  -HSync +Vsync

xrandr --addmode HDMI1 1024x600

xrandr --output HDMI1 --mode 1024x600

This "forces" to activate a 1024x600 resolution display, and the display turns on and everything is OK (although xrandr still reports HDMI1 as "disconnected").

However, if I don't start by connecting an identified monitor, the last command fails with "xrandr: Configure crtc 0 failed" message.

My guess is that connecting the recognized monitor switches the port from DisplayPort mode to HDMI mode, and then the xrandr activation command works.

The display should be inside an embedded device, so there's no way to ask the user to first connect a different monitor.

Is there a way to force the port to switch to HDMI mode? Or, alternatively, is there something I can do to make the NUC recognize the HDMI display?

I'm using NUC5i5MYBE, Ubuntu 16.04.

Thank you very much,

Noam

NUC7i3BNH and Samsung UE55KU6400 HDMI problems

Hi everyone,

I've recently purchased a NUC7i3BNH and after installing memory and SSD I tried to connect to my Samsung UHD TV model UE55KU6400 and only got a black screen, no intel logo, nothing.

Then I tried to plug to my older Phillips TV and worked fine, installed Windows 10 and then tried to hot swap the cable to back the samsung and voila! Glorious 3840 x 2160 working just fine.

However, if I change source or turn off the TV and try to get back to Windows 10, I get a weird pink screen for a second and then a "No source" message from my Samsung. If i try to reboot the NUC, only blank screen again. The only way to get the screen back to the Samsung, is by doing the hot swap trick with the older phillips.

I'm no expert but I've spent the weekend learning about HDMI handshake issues and have tried updating all the drivers, the DEVCON trick and nothing works apart from hot swap. As that is not a practical solution I would like to ask if anyone can help.

Thanks!

INTEL NUC7I3BNH audio does not work in some TVs

Hi,

I recently got a Intel NUC7i3BNH and installed ubuntu 16.04 on it. Audio over hdmi does not work on Samsung UN46EH5300F TV. However, when I try it on Asus VE247H monitor the audio works all the time. Also audio over headphones or speakers also work all the time. I posted a question to ubuntu forums followign their audio troubleshooting page https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshootingProcedure. It includes all the information about my nuc.

I also came across https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26609/HDMI-2-0-Firmware-Update-Tool-for-Intel-NUC-Kit-NUC7i3BN-NUC7i5BN-NUC7i7BN-NUC6CAY and it looks like intel made an firmware update because some nucs were facing some graphics issues for Samsung 6000 series TVs. I think what I am facing is similar. I don't get audio over hdmi for Samusng 5300 series TV.

I have been googling and it looks I am not the only person who is facing this issue. I was wondering if there was any solution to this problem.

Thanks.

NUC7i7BNH Simultaneous transcoding and more

Hi, I'm going back here now to get exact performance information from this high-performance machine.

I already own the product but a customer wants to purchase ten units of this model to use them in a kind of personal homecine and before he buys, fundamental to know, directly from Intel, about the issues below, for which I already thank you already.

The client has multimedia collections of movies, serials and concerts and intends to use Emby Server, to share with clients outside the network, that is, remotely, and for that, there are doubts:

1. What is the maximum number of clients that can simultaneously access each NUC unit at the same time. Explaining in more detail, imagine that several, perhaps two hundred clients access the collections at the same time, to watch the multimedia content. Is there a maximum limit for the NUC to support such access?

2. It is common for Emby Server to process video transcoding, according to the device of the external client that is accessing the collections. As an example, a H265 8bit movie, which is a heavy file, depending on the customer's equipment, Emby Serve transcodes so there are no crashes and customers can all watch movies without disturbances.

In these transcodes, does the NUC support processing which client boundary is connected smultaneously, ie at the same time?

The machine I'm suggesting to him is the same machine I passed on to another customer;

Intel NUC7i7BNH, 32GB RAM, SSD M.2 500GB

Thank you very much for the answers, I can not take the risk of passing on to the client something that does not fully comply with it.

Greetings from Brazil

Intel® Gigabit Ethernet Network Connection Driver for Intel® NUC Kit NUC7i5BN - 22.4.0.1

Searching for the latest drivers for the NUC7i5BNH it shows that version 22.4.0.1 of the Intel Gigabit Ethernet Network driver is available

Download Intel® Gigabit Ethernet Network Connection Driver for Intel® NUC Kit NUC7i3BN, NUC7i5BN, NUC7i7BN

However on downloading 22.4.0.1 it shows as size 58,385KB which is identical in size to version 22.3.x of the driver that was previously available. On installing the driver (with no errors) and checking Windows 10 Programs and Features I continue to see Intel Network Connections 22.3.108.0 listed rather than version 22.4.x

Could you confirm that the driver download package for 22.4.0.1 actually has the 22.4.x version in it

thanks

NUC7I7BNH Audio Issues: popping (3.5mm audio jack front panel)

$

I have received my NUC7I5BNH a about a month ago, and I'm noticing strange noises in my headphones plugged in the front audio jack when I start or restart audio after some pause. I use Sound Intone CX-05 Noise Isolating Headphones with an in-line remote and microphone. When I plug them in the NUC jack the Realtek manager pops up. I can hear a faint popping sound and sometimes lout sound distortion when the sound restarts after no audio was played for a while, which is very annoying. I have read this has maybe to do with some sort of a sleep mode of the audio module or with the audio jack when it is expecting a microphone maybe. It does not really matter if I use the headset or headphone setting in the Realtek manager - there is at best only a gradual difference. I also tried different headsets and headphones. There is a bigger qualitative difference, but the issue is in for me in every case present.

I found some articles on the net about the possible issue with the sleep/power saving mode of the audio module and literally tried every (reasonable) suggestion (e.g. Fix Audio Static Crackling Popping with Realtek Sound Card ) - but nothing worked. Please help, this is really frustrating.

My NUC isn't waking up

Hello all,

After working on building up my NUC, thinking I'm going to have a sweet running computer for years and years, I'm wondering now if I'm still going to be using this computer!  This is currently working into being a pain.  The computer doesn't want to wake up after being idle for 10 minutes or more.  I have to hit the power button on monitor two or three times to wake the computer up!  It looks like something is starting to happen when I wake the computer up with mouse movement, but the process never finishes.  The closest I get is "Cable Disconnected".  This has nothing to do with the OS, (Win 10 Pro) as I was getting the same problem when using multiple Linux OSs too.  This has to do with BIOS or the hardware and firmware before the OS.

Any suggestions how to remedy this?

My computer is a NUC5i5RYH;

NUC6i5SYK with haswell i5 5250 will not install graphics driver - please help

Hi

I have a problem installing several drivers for some NUC6i5SYK with i5 5250 installed... According to the intel driver update utility there exist graphics drivers for these nuc, but the installations keeps failing. Then I tried manually finding and installing the drivers, but no luck with that either. Then I found the drivers readme which specified that the drivers only worked for nucs with skylake or newer cpus. My question is then: If the recommended drivers for the nuc doesnt work then has anyone found any other suitable drivers?

Do the 7th-gen NUCs support DDC/CI over HDMI on the Thunderbolt 3 port?

I'm interested in picking up an Intel NUC, specifically one of the newest models with Kaby Lake and Thunderbolt 3. My use-case is rather specific though: I need two HDMI display outputs and I need DDC/CI support on both of them (for automated display input switching).

Do the newest NUCs with Thunderbolt 3 support DDC/CI on displays connected to the Thunderbolt 3 port? Specifically, does DDC/CI continue to function in DisplayPort Alt. Mode through a (passive) Thunderbolt 3 to HDMI adapter?

Also, can any recommend a good passive Thunderbolt 3 to HDMI adapter?

NUC6i7KYK Replacement Fan

I bought my Skull Canyon NUC for about half year and my fan starts to get noisy in a way that its bearings are worn off. I checked out the NUC spare parts Intel® NUC Spare Parts  but I can't find the spare parts for the fan. Is there anywhere I can get that?

Can I use NUC7i7BNB in high temp application?

The tech product spec for the NUC7i7BNB lists operating temp as 35C max, but also lists max air inlet temp of 50C max.  Does this imply that the NUC can operate above 35C under different packaging scenario?

I am planning to remove the NUC PCB assy from enclosure, keep fan and heatsink assembly attached and add air flow around the PCB.   Would this allow me to operate with 55C ambient and air inlet?

Intel NUC NUC5PPYH duplex printing problem

$

Hello,

I have an Intel NUC5PPYH and I cannot have a flawless duplex printing. I am currently running Win 10 Pro 64 bit built 1703. Whenever I try to print a 2-page document, created on MS Office 2010 Word, I end up with a sheet of paper where the front page print does not 100% overlap the print on the back page. Lets say that the front page has 32 lines of words typed and the back has also 32 lines of words typed. In an ideal situation, the front print (i.e the first 32 lines) should overlap the next 32 lines. In my case, printing of the front page starts lower than usual (4 lines lower to be precise) whereas the back page printing starts normally on the top of the page, thus I am having a sheet of paper where if you place it under any light, you could see that the 2 printings (front & back) do not overlap. Sorry for my english, this is the best way I can describe the problem, treat the document in question as an x-ray and place it under normal everyday lighting. Every paper has some degree of transparency.

I am using the default settings in MS Word, margins, spaces etc are used as is.

I was facing the same problem when running Win 10 Pro 64 bit built 1607. I updated to built 1703 hoping for a fix. My printer was an HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 4535 AiO, which had automatic 2-sided printing and was connected to my NUC through usb cable. I had to return it to the store. I have also used a Samsung Multifunction Printer Xpress M2885FW which also had automatic 2-sided printing, connect it through usb, the problem still persists.

Moved my NUC to a place where another HP printer which also had automatic 2-sided printing, unfortunately, problem persists.

I have also converted the aforementioned 2-sided file to a PDF, still facing duplex error.

I have also uninstalled Win 10 Pro and installed Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I didn't solved the problem.

While running built 1607 (Win 10 Pro 64 bit) I also used MS Office 2007 and 2016 Pro, faulty duplex printing continued. I am currently on built 1703 with MS Office 2016 Pro.

Purchased heavier paper (120gr instead of 80gr), thinking that it may be a roller issue (or whatever mechanism is used to grab the paper), didn't solved it either.

I have also installed Libre Office and used it for printing only documents that were created in MS Office and magically the problem was solved! Used Libre to open other files created under MS Office, and printing was fine.

Lastly I have also emailed the above document to a couple of friends that I knew they had printers with automatic 2-sided printing, asked them to not change any Office parameter and print it. 2-sided printing was fine.

Looking forward to a solution.

Thank you.

NUC 6i7kyk just started rebooting spontaneously

I've had the system for 4 months and it works great for the most part but recently it started rebooting itself randomly--at least a couple times a day.  I ran a windows memory test and the test said I have a memory problem that should be addressed by the manufacturer.

Before I pursue that I thought it would make sense to try to update all the drivers and BIOS. It looks like most drivers and the bios all have updates since I bought the system in April 2017.  I downloaded the driver bundle and found on-line the recommendations to do the updates manually instead of using the Intel Driver Update Utility.  I'm about to get started but since I'm not a hardware/BIOS/Drivers expert I thought I post a question:

Is my approach here the right one?  That is, to update everything before trying to get the memory vendor to replace the memory?  Or is this just a waste of time?

Thanks.

Perhaps this is the wrong place to post this but I thought it would be good to have a thread for any information about when the next (8th) generation NUCs might be available.  I know that Intel is unveiling their Coffee Lake CPU lines in 3 days (8/21/2017).

Any news concerning new NUCs?
