NUC8i7HVK - "A bootable device has not been detected." despite SSD inserted and OS installed

$

Hi,

I've set up my Hades Canyon and was able to on first boot get Win 10 installed, added all the drivers, rebooted a couple times along the way. Didn't touch any BIOS settings, just wanted to get everything installed first before tweaking anything. I left the system off and went to boot it the next day and saw the message "A bootable device has not been detected."

I promptly went into BIOS and my Intel 760p SSD was no longer showing in the PCIe devices list. I had installed it into SSD Slot A. At this point I was on BIOS *.0029.*, so I went to see if a newer BIOS had been relased. *.0040.* was available so I installed that. System still refused to detect the installed SSD.

Only after unplugging and reinstalling the SSD, into either slot A or B, does it boot from SSD. But if I dare power down and attempt to restart, I'm stuck with the bootable device not detected message until the next time I manually intervene and reseat the SSD. I've installed SODIMMs and m.2 SSDs in the past and was sure to seat the device pins properly. I'm running out of ideas here! I've even cleared CMOS via the BIOS_SEC jumper inside the case.

I'm very confused because this isn't a total failure, as I was clearly able to make use of the SSD up until it quits being detected. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

audio popping from headphone jack

I was hearing a crackling / popping sound in the speakers or headphones plugged into the on-board audio jack.  The pop seemed to occur at the start of audio, for example adjusting the volume control in windows, and then about six seconds after the audio stops, another pop is heard.

Prior to noticing the popping sound, I was using a pair of Bose Bluetooth headphones.

I turned off the "Limited Audio" option then turned it back on and the pop went away, but it came back as soon as I opened the system settings panel called "Bluetooth & other devices."  This has me wondering if the two are connected somehow.

Settings -> System -> Sound -> With the "Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio (SST)" Selected, click on Device Properties.

On "Speakers Properties" box, there are several tabs.  Click the Custom tab and turn off "Limited Output."  With this turned off, I noticed a reduction in the pops but it was when I turned it back on that the pops stopped.  But, like I said as soon as I opened the bluetooth settings panel I heard the pops come back again.  I'm going to reboot a few times to see if this behavior is consistent across reboots.

I recently purchased an nuc7i5bnh unit along with Samsung 970 evo ssd and Crucial 4gb DDR4 2400MHz ram module. I added the ram and ssd in the unit and connected my monitor via hdmi to this nuc. Then when I powered it on,, a red led appeared on the unit. After pressing the power buttton the blue led started to blink and then a solid blue led started to show and that was it. Neither can I enter the BIOS menu(my dell USB kb doesnt work, nor do I get any dislay on the monitor. Is my unit faulty?

what should I do now

edit:

When the solid blue led is being dislapyed for once this led gets turned off and a  red blinking led is displayed for a second and then immediately the solid big blue led with blinking blue led in between starts again

NUC (nuc6cays) help updating HDMI firmware

$

Hi I've been using Win10 with the Nuc (nuc6cays) for a couple years now but like others I'm having trouble getting my new Samsung HDTV (49" QN49Q6F) to recognize it through the HDMI port.  I have searched through the forums and gotten some help and tried a few things, but I'm having trouble with upgrading my NUC.  I've successfully flashed the bios with AYAPLCEL.86A.0049.EB but I'm confused about the HDMI firmware upgrade "NUC6CAY-NUC7ixBN-HDMI-Update-1.72".  I found this reference in an old post as a possible fix to the HDMI problem, but I'm a little confused on how to work the "Bobcat Aux ISP Tool" software.   It seems I'm using this program to run the files found in the "bin" folder, but no matter what file I run, it fails.   First all, is this firmware update still relevant?  When it comes to flashing bios and firmware/driver updates I'm of the mindset that if it ain't broke don't fix it.  If anyone can advise me on which updates to apply to fix this problem please let me know.   I was able to find a tutorial on how to install the HDMI firmware, but it said nothing about how to use Bobcat and I don' know what "FW" refers to.   The other possible problem is that the tutorial says I must be hooked up to an HDMI 2.0 compliant device which is impossible in terms of the Samsung as hooking up is the problem.  I did run bobcat while hooked up to a different HDMI monitor, but I was unable to be certain if this was HDMI compliant.

Beyond that I've confirmed the HDMI cable is fine and that HDMI works fine with the HDTV using a different PC.    I spend two or three hours trying to get the HDMI to work including returning and getting the same TV thinking the problem might be with the "ONE CONNECT" box that comes with the TV.    This box attaches to the TV with it's own priority cable.  At one point, the one connect box feel 2 feet to the floor, then when I picked it up, the HDMI port was recognized, but only for as long as the TV was on.  After that it went back to being unable to detect the PC, although it's clear the HDTV knew something was connected to the HDMI port.   Hot swapping didn't work and I've tried all 4 HDMI ports available on the TV.   I don't get a blank screen or a boot screen or anything.  Just the Samsung screen showing it failed to establish a connection.

I realize there are other posts on this topic which I am still exploring.

8i7HVK Nuc - 1 of 3 monitors doesn't turn on after sleep, windows on wrong screen

I have 3x 4K monitors at 60Hz connected to 8i7HVK Nuc.

When wake from sleep - say in the morning after going to Start / Sleep the night before - one of the monitors doesn't turn on. I have to press the power button and re-select Display Port as an input - then it comes on.

This only started happening a few weeks ago - when I first got this Nuc all monitors turned on correctly.

Further - when waking from sleep - windows are all moved around onto different monitors.

All displays are confirmed at 4K@60Hz - 2 connected via mDP to mDP - and the third (the one that wont automatically come on) is Thunderbold 3 to DP.

(I've tried HDMI on the non working monitor - but it doesn't seem to support 10-bit colour - and I think DP is a better standard that I'd rather use in any case).

This is extremely bad and irritating and is massively disrupting my work.

I have the latest Radeon graphics driver from this page:

Downloads for Intel® NUC Kit NUC8i7HVK

18.5.1 (13 Jun 2018)

My monitors:

LG 27UD68P-B

LG 27UD58-B (this is model that wont turn on after sleep)

DELL P2415Q

When will you fix this? It seems Nucs always have substandard graphics drivers - I'm hearing from other users with similar issues.

Thx.

8i7HVK - rear 3.5mm audio port 'noisy' when Nuc under load, front fine

I've had a nuc 8i7HVK Hades Canyon nuc for a few weeks - and just got some new speakers which I plugged into the rear 3.5mm audio jack.

When the nuc isn't under load the speakers play music without noise (hissing / interference) fine. But when I play a game (Civilization 6), and the nuc is under load - all sorts of audio interference comes out of  the speakers.

When I move the audio plug to the front 3.5mm jack - it works perfectly and the noise is gone.

Is this a design flaw? How can I fix this?

Thanks

New NUC7i5BNH impression

$

0

So, i purchased a new NUC7i5BNH to serve as HTPC instead of a dying old PC (x10 bigger than NUC ) that could not handle newer content, and below are my first impressions.

1) The NUC looks very nice and sleek. I connected it to my LG plasma TV, via Yamaha RXV671 receiver and turned on.

2) First i wanted to enter BIOS screen, pressed F2 but all i was presented was a black/blank screen....tried few times for 15 minutes when switched to google...google was full of reports of the same issue, each suggested different solution...I tried to update BIOS to latest for couple of times using F7 method, but it did not work...every time i pointed it to BIOS file the system just restarted without updating and without any notice...I have owned many many PC's in my life and never observed something like that...anyway, after few more tries i was able to update the BIOS via Recovery BIOS procedure....however it did not solve blank BIOS screen issue

3) OK, so time to more google...i noticed people complained about the same issue when connected thru receiver, so i tried that next (although it wa not easy)...i disconnected my plasma TV from the receiver and connected it directly to the NUC and voila! The BIOS was there!......Now, i own several devices connected to the receiver(set-top box, XBOX 360, and one more PC), and all can show any output to the TV thru the receiver without any problem...so how come 2018 manufactured NUC (not some legacy device invented 10 years ago) cannot transmit its BIOS screen thru the receiver? Its definitely not resolution issue, after installing Windows 10 on it, i switched the resolution to 1024x768 inside Windows, and it was perfectly visible....somehow BIOS video output does not play well with receiver, and this is very sad - i dont want to go through PITA each time i want to update setting in BIOS....

4) Next i noticed the fan noise, so while in BIOS already i switched the Fan profile to Quiet, restarted but did not saw any difference in Fan noise! The Fan is audible close to the unit, even when NUC does nothing....i will try Fanless profile next, however i need again to disconnect the TV from receiver and connect it directly

5) In Windows 10, after installing all drivers (validated with Intell support tool) i still have some unknown device without driver...need to figure it out

6) I configured the NUC for HDMI CEC control....however this thing is unpredictable....when NUC turns on it turns on the TV but receiver remains in standby...when i turn NUC off, it switches off the receiver, but TV stays on! Moreover, the NUC waked up from sleep by itself at night and switched on the TV ...and thats how i found it in the morning..i hope my plasma TV did not get burned..i am going to turn off HDMI control feature until I understand how to operate it reliably...

All and all i got mixed feelings...i am a tech enthusiast, owned many PC's and streamer's and out of the box NUC experience is not that great and even a bit disappointing... It would be great if Intel representatives can relate to the issues i pointed out

Thanks

NUC 7i5BNH does not output 4K@60p with 10-bit YCbCr420 color + HDR

$

Hi all,

Just got myself a new LG 65B7 TV

Hooked my NUC to it - it switched to 4K automatically.

I has also able to change the output to 60Hz via the Intel management utility.

However, I do not see an option to change the color depth or format.

I saw some screen captures in other topics where people have an "advanced" in the "display" menu - while I do not.

Is it something I have to enable somehow?

Maybe the missing settings are hiding there...

Anyway, my current settings are stuck at 4K@60p with 8-bit YCbCr420, and I do not see any way to change those.

Updated the graphics drivers, flashed HDMI firmware, flashed BIOS, Windows is updated to the creators update.

Regarding HDR - I do see the toggle - but when toggled - it just goes back to being off.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

No orange light - dead NUC?

Hi

My Intel NUC7 i3BNH seems dead. There is no longer a orange light on the front, and it won't turn on. Is there a second power button on it? I have two NUCs, and tried to connect the dead one to the second NUC's power cable, but still no sign of life.

Any suggestions?

USB blu ray player is not recognized by NUC6i7kyk

Hi,

I bought a external USB ASUS SBW-06D2X Blu ray in several month ago.

At beginning, my NUC can detect blu ray device and show it in File manager after plug-in it.

However, after several updates (BIOS, software, ...), once day I tried to plug it in to my NUC, my NUC can't find it.

I mean, Blu ray device doesn't appear in file manager and there is no yellow bang device in device manager.

Then I tried to connect Blu ray device to another PC, another PC can recognize it and see it in File manager. So I think Blu ray device itself is fine.

I also checked that USB port is okay on my NUC because USB flash disk can be recognized on the same port.

Do you have any idea why USB blu ray player is not recognized now?

Thanks in advanced.

What I get out of our NUC Community is both the formal (Intel responses) and informal collaborative discussion environment created and monitored by Intel and other great minds.

We can explore the thought process of evaluating, fixing, and improving our experience with our NUCs. That kind of insight makes the community richer by providing subscribers more "sounding boards" to validate hunches about how stuff works when most of us do not have  detailed technical designs / schematics / knowledge of the system design. Our community provides an opportunity for Intel to understand if a problem is isolated to an individual, a production run, or a more systemic issue that requires a driver or three update and BIOS mods. All normal stuff if you ask me. There's more ... what we get in return, has incredible value if you are interested in discovering the solution or simply looking for a button to press to make it better.

We actually get the opportunity to reverse engineer through the diagnostic and testing process and gain insight to the design reasons and trade-offs that remain a staple of systems engineering. Sometimes it's a swarm response (those are great - collective knowledge), sometimes a single response, but most often the right response is there. So when I ask a question I get to say which answer worked the best for the situation.

It also seems that Intel genuinely wants to help solve problems and, when it requires a more private discussion, you receive an email to continue dialog. I think that part of of the Intel support model is the best part of my entire experience here. Knowing that someone will reach out if it needs to go to the next level.

Intel: Please keep this service because it works well and you help solve real problems.

NUC8i7HVK Bios v44 removes TPM and breaks BitLocker

Hi Intel,

I upgraded the bios on my NUC8i7HVK to:  [HNKBLi70.86A] v44 [HN0044.BIO]

After the update Windows BitLocker broke and the BitLocker manager menu could not find TPM.  I fished around the Intel Visual Bios menu in v44 but could not locate the TPM settings.  Downgrading back to Bios v40 fixed this (windows found TPM and BitLocker worked again).

Hi, aber several crashes I tried to updated The Bios and Install a new OS in hope to get rid of several issues.

Via Internet it finds not the newest 0018 Version. So i tried to update via usb stick.

But everytime the Nuc reboots it get stuck.

Same happens when i pull the jumper as discribed it doesn't find any file.

I tried above steps with different USB sticks. diff sizes usb 2 usb 3 and so on.

Same result happens when i try to install a new Os via usb.

At last i tried it with a ssd and this also won't be recognized and get stuck in a black screen.

A second Intel NUC with same Bios shows the same Problems, only his also hdmi strikes.

So i think I told you everything i've done so far and I hope someone has a suggestion how to proceed next.

Feel Free to ask any question that might be still open.

NUC5i3RYH no display with hdmi or displayport. What can be done?

Hi,

I have a NUC5i3RYH and cannot make the screen work. Monitor says no signal.

1 . It used to be working with DP and mini-hdmi as well.

2 . Now it does not work with any of them.

3 . I tried different monitors and cables. Cable and monitor errors are excluded with another pc.

4 . I tried BIOS recovery blindly (removing the security jumpstart, etc...), did not fix my problem.

5 . The pc seems working otherwise, at least it does not give other signs of errors. Hard to see without monitor.

What can be done at this point? The boxing is gone, it is about 2 years old.

Hello and good morning.

2 days ago i got the Biosuptdate from 57 to 61. From this Moment on my NUC cannot wake from S4 or S5 with my IR Command. I have to use Power Toggle 2 or 3 times to wake my NUC.

I replaced BIOS back to 57, but than I have Problems with my Optane and the Nuc doesn't start my windows. BUT, he wake up with the first PowerON command from my IR. After flash to 61 I need 2 or 3 times to wake... Than i change th IR Driver to the last older version, but there is no change...

In some German Boards a few people have the same Problem with NUC6 and 7 after flashing the new Bios...

For me I have a solution to wake my NUC. I use CEC and I can wait for the next BIOS. So use my note as information...

Kind regards

Good evening. I have purchased/installed the new NUC7i7DNHE w/16 GB Crucial Ram PC4-19200 and 1TB Crucial SSD and OS Windows 10. The Windows software is up to date.

The video display Intel UHD 620 has driver version 24.20.100.6025. The internet connection tests at a solid 59-60 MBbit/s as well.

Resolutions tested include 1920 x 1080 and 3840 x 2160 at 60 hz.  Software tested include YouTube TV, Netflix, and Amazon Prime Video. Google Chrome web browser is being used.

Please let me know where to dive in from here to get this new equipment working smoothly. The image is crisp/sharp, but is not smooth with stutters. The stuttering is more pronounced when the camera pans.

The same videos will play back smoothly if we take the NUC PC out of the equation.

For example, if my Smart TV streams the software directly, the playback is smooth. Display used is a LG 65" OLED.

thank you.
