Installing ESXi on NUC8I7HNK - failing

$

I am trying to install ESXi 6.7 on a NUC8I7HNK -

I've tried several different BIOS versions and in both Secure boot and Non-Secure Boot.

Each time it fails after loading all of the ESXi going into the Interactive installation with the following.

On the screen

“Shutting down firmware services…..

Using “simple offset” UEFT RTS mapping policy”

The NUC is now locked up.

Would really like to get this working.

The NUC7 works fine but liked the NUC8 with the two NICs built into the motherboard.

Any ideas on what to try?

I've seen this asked here and on Reddit but nothing in the VMWare forums - so please don't point me there but  I get an error message when booting to install ESXi 6.7

UC8i7HVK version had a BIOS update that fixed but the HNK is still broken.  This is a bit ridiculous...

NUC7PJYH - Turning on Startup Sound in BIOS. The HORROR

Today I tried to turning on Startup Sound in BIOS and got a somewhat terrifying experience.

Well, saving settings end exiting I heard an impressive "Intel" sound. However, in Windows I realized that all sound devices are gone. Here is the screenshot from DevMan.

Scr_ 083.PNG

There is only "High definition Audio Convertor" with an exclamation sign in System devices.

Several reboots did not help.

However, shutting down and powering on I got another piece of fun:

  1. "Intel" sound played OK,
  2. no NUC logo or Windows appeared;
  3. power led started blinking: 2 blinks, then pause;
  4. Then it stopped blinking and went BLACK
  5. But id did not turn off: the screen presented the following inspiring message:
  6. After I pressed Enter HD LED started blinking it got to Windows.
  7. No traces of sound devices
  8. All the time after I pressed Enter the power LED remained black.

I asked Windows to restart, went to BIOS and turned the evil sound OFF.

And things got back to normal: I booted swiftly and sound devices returned:

Questions:

  1. What is "Processor Thermal Trip" and how could it happen on a cold machine?
  2. How can I see Event Log Page in setup?
  3. Are there any other seemingly innocent BIOS options that could have such disastrous effects?

Hello, just received my NUC717BNKQ. I would like to use the built in microphone array as an input device for Dragon Naturally Speaking. I tried set up last evening; but Dragon indicated it was getting very poor audio input from the microphone and the meter was showing barely any signal. I explored the sound setting; but am new to the NUC. Does anyone know if what I am trying to do is possible? I know the mic is there for input in Cortana; but I think it should work with Dragon.

Anyways, thanks in advance - Steve

Disable 2381 Intel Display audio

NUC7i5BNH, Audio Devices mysteriously going missing.

I have had all kinds of issues with audio, mainly lost audio devices. Tried all kinds of stuff. After a lot of testing I can say:

Disable 2381 Intel Display audio, and all your problems will be gone.

At first I thought it was an issue with Realtek Audio but it's not.

I'm not even sure what 2381 Intel Display audio is supposed to do, the only thing that happens when I disable it is that all audio issues disappear.

In sound settings I select what audio is output goes to what device and everything works great.

NUC7I5BNH device boot not found

Hello, I own an Intel Kit NUC7I5BNH and when I unplug the power cord and return to plug it, in the tv appears the black screen with white letters and the system says that the device boot has not been found, I reboot the device and Windows 10 loads perfectly, it has always happened. When the device is connected to the power cord, the problem never happens, so I would like to know if someone has a solution in bios for that.

Thanks.

Salutations.

NUC7i7BNH screen does not wake up from sleep

I am having issues with my NUC7i7BNH where the screen most of the times is not coming back out of sleep mode (sometimes it does work as how it should be).

The keyboard seems still to be responsive (numlock light is still going on and off), but the monitor does not come back. I installed the latest version (4678) of the Intel Graphic drivers and all other drivers are the latest as well.

I am running Windows 10 Pro version 1703. I have seen that there are quite some users of the NUC7i7BNH that reports on crashes of their NUC. Maybe mine issue is the same, but I don't know. The only thing I can think of is long pressing the power button to restart the NUC, but I think the NUC is not crashed, but I can't tell for sure as the screen remains blank.

One other thing that I find particular is that the Intel Driver Update Utility (V2.8.0.7) shows an unknown version number for the following two drivers:

- Thunderbolt Bus Driver for Intel NUC Kit NUC7i5BN and NUC7i7BN

- Intel HD Graphics Driver for Windows 10 for Intel NUC7i3BN, NUC7i5BN and NUC7i7BN

Hope someone can inform me what I can do to resolve the issue that my screen does not come back when in sleep.

I have mini PC NUC5I3RYH with windows 7, mini HDMI to HDMI port connection to monitor.

Recently, the monitor has turned black after OS started. I can hear sounds of OS, I can restart the computer by using keybord buttons, but the monitor is black.

1. I started a computer in safe mode and disabled the graphic driver Intel HD 5500. The monitor shows correct picture.

2. I tried to install previous version of the driver - monitor is black.

3. Currently computers works with standard video controller.

4. I have re-installed OS (windows 7), same issue - after installing of graphic driver (monitor is black)

5. Intel Driver and Support assistant could not help either.

Thanks

NUC8i7HVK video output specs

Hello,

I want to check if the NUC8i7HVK will support a custom display monitor (I don't have it right now, it is being manufactured) that have a pixel definition of 5760x1080. I have a few tables with numbers about that screen but I can't match them exactly with the specs provided from the NUC. I am particularly interested in the pixel clock value, the minimum I need to be supported by the NUC would be 350 MHz.

I suspect the NUC is more than able to support this requirement, based on others bandwidth values or clocks, but I need to have some official table from Intel (or AMD in this case) confirming this, so I can validate the choice of a NUC8i7HVK.

Does anyone know where I can get the pixel clock supported by this computer ? Thanks in advance.

Francois

MCE Error on NUC7CJYH 0043 BIOS Update and CANNOT Revert Back

I updated NUC7CJYH BIOS from 0027 to 0043 today, got mce errors like what I've seen in the past when I updated to all the version after 0027, so I decided to revert back to 0027 but failed. It says the BIOS version does not match and aborted. I literally cannot revert back to any version before 0043 after this update, so I am currently locked to 0043 now.

I am running arch linux with kernel version 4.17.11-6-ck-silvermont

Hi,

After checking Intel specifications I've purchased one Intel NUC7PJYH2 and an Intel Validated Memory Module - Corsair CMSX16GX4M2A2400C16.

The NUC fails to start using the single 8GB RAM module(Intel validated memory!)

By "fails to start" I mean no video output and power button led emitting the memory error signal.

I did tested the Corsair CMSX16GX4M2A2400C16 8GB RAM Module on a HP Laptop(Intel Core i7-7500U CPU) using MemTest86 V7.5 FREE - no errors reported.

Managed to perform a BIOS update on the NUC(using a borrowed RAM module - Crucial CT4G4SFS824A.C8FBD) but that did not solved my issue.

To be clear:

- the NUC is NUC7PJYH2 - specs/details: Intel® NUC Kit NUC7PJYH Product Specifications

Screen blanking randomly when using DisplayPort NUC8I7HVK4 + ASUS VZ27AQ monitor

NUC8I7HVK4 with ASUS VZ27AQ monitor.

Bios: 2.2.25

Windows 10 Pro 64bit

Connected via DisplayPort

AMD Driver version: 24.20.11021.1000

Any game I play I see the monitor blank for a few seconds.

Seems to happen randomly. Doesn;t seem related to load as fans are not necessarily going hard when it happens.

Happens in older game: Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced.

Ashes of Singularity - Escalation.

Step taken to troubleshoot:

Set Scaling Mode to Full Panel

Disabled IGP in Bios

Playing with HDMI doesn't show the same problem. But no freesync as my monitor requires DisplayPort for that to work.

Rest Bios to factory defaults

CHecked sensors during Ashes of Singularity.

Load onCPUs was around 20%

GPU was at around 51 degrees C

Uninstalled drivers for both display adapters so display adapters only showing: Microsoft Basic Display Adapter

Installed Intel Graphics driver

Restarted pc

Install Amd diriver.

Restarted pc.

Still happening.

What next?

Intel NUC NUC7i5BNH - OPTANE MEMORY UPGRADE

Hi, I was surfing through the Intel Web for the specs of the Intel NUC 7i5BNH, and I saw that the system is compatible with the following Optane memory:

Intel16GB M.2 PCIe NVMe memory

MEMPEK1W016GA

Intel Validated

However, after navigatiing through a store to find such memory, I was being offered the next level of Optane memory which is 32 Gb.

Intel Optane Memory Module 32 GB PCIe M.2 80mm MEMPEK1W032GAXT

I was wondering if this 32GB Optane memory module could be compatible with the 7i5BNH?

Thanks.

Running ubuntu 18.04 on an intel nu7i7bnh. Im having an issue where the mouse/keyboard (uses a single usb receiver) will either cut out for like 10-15seconds or have super delayed signals. If I'm within 3feet or so, I dont think the issue exists, but I havent really stood that close to it for long enough to confirm or deny if thats the case. Anyone have similar issue and how did you resolve it? Let me know if there's any additional information needed.

I am replacing an HTPC with audio output connect to a Sony amp, but the optical output on the NUC (NUC7PJYH) seems to have a different connector, more like the 1/8" typical (copper) audio connector.

How do I get optical audio output for connection to the amp?

NUC8i7HVK: Replacement Power Supply/Brick/Adapter?

$

So, I just ordered an NUC8i7HVK, and would like a second power brick to save lugging it around all the time (home<-->office)...

No love at Intel® NUC Spare Parts yet :-(

From review pics I see the NUC comes with a Lite-On brand power supply, model "PA-1231-12".

The Technical Product Specification states that's a 19.5v/11.8A (230w) power supply with a DC "barrel" style plug having 7.4mm/OD 5.0mm/ID shell (ground) and inner 0.8mm (19.5v) contact.

So, the question then becomes, where to get one?

I can't find anyone selling identical Lite-On power supplies directly online?

There seem to be a variety of laptops using similar power supplies. It's worth noting that Lenovo uses a "PA-1231-12LA" (note the additional "LA" on the end) model with an incompatible square plug.

Interestingly, the tech spec also states:

The kit has a power sensing circuit that Manages CPU power usage to maintain system power consumption below 230 W. It is recommended that you disable this feature (via BIOS option) when using an AC-DC adapter greater than 230 W.

Which makes me wonder if trying to find one of the 280w power supplies MSI specs for their gaming laptops might yield a performance increase (at least for a burst until you hit the TDP wall)?

Anyhow, searching Amazon yields an HP branded one ("HSTNN-LA12"), and one from Delippo, so I'm wondering if I should give one of those a shot?  I just want something reliable that won't fry my NUC, but the marketplace for these things sure is sketchy :-(

USB Power Delivery Driver not working after Win10 Upgrade to v1803

$

I just purchased the Nuc8i7HVK about a week ago and installed Win10 v1709 without any issues. I installed all the Intel supplied drivers and Device Manager reports that everything is okay. Last night I upgraded Win10 to v1803 and discovered that under device manager, my TPS65988 device, which is the TI USB power delivery device wouldn't load the driver because it says that the device can't start.

Upon further investigation, the properties under the device itself reports DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE. When I rolled Win10 back to 1709 everything reports okay, so this leads me to think this is a Windows issue, but when I try to reinstall the Intel driver after the upgrade, nothing happens.

Two questions:

1. Has anybody else seen this issue after upgrading to v1803?

2. Is there a hardware problem with my unit? (Nothing is plugged in to my USB Type C ports)

Thanks in advance guys!
