Hey. Here are some graphics tips for smooth graphics with the game Skyrim and Intel HD 5000 running average 23 FPS:
In Intel Graphics Control Panel 3D settings:
General Settings to Custom and then AF and VS to application settings.
Application Optimal Mode enabled.
Multi-Sample Anti-Aliasing and Conservative Morphological Anti-Aliasing have quite a performance impact, for example they make WEP graphics scores drop from 6.6 to 6.5. So set them both on "Turn Off"
Usually in games running with native resolution often gives the best graphics, but in this game turning down from 1920x1080p to 1600x720p does not look notably different and it boost graphics performance alot. So set resolution to 1600x720p.
In Skyrim two graphics problems can become annoying: 1) is a slow mouse/camera movement with low FPS and 2) is a shakky picture when turning looking around. The slow mouse movement has something to do with the programs vertical sync and cut in framerate, somehow it makes a big difference when lowering shadows from ultra to high among all the settings, but also the FPS increase by lowering resolution from 1920x1080 to 1600x900. And the shakky picture has something to do with the setting "Radial Blur Quality" - the odd thing about it is that to solve the problem (GeForce.com The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Tweak Guide - Radial Blur Quality Comparison) it is better to choose HIGH instead of low.
That being said and after choosing resolution in Skyrim Launcher Option panel: click "High" (Antialiasing off and Anisotropic filtering 8 Samples), then click Advanced... to extend the panel and on the detail tab, place every setting on High, except Decal Quantity put it on Medium, and enable all the reflections and ALSO enable FXAA. On the View Distance tab don't change anything (all values were set after clicking the High button on main panel).
Adjust the mouse sensivity last to likening in-game. It is possible that Optimizer Textures at Skyrim Nexus - mods and community have had some impact on performance also. This game was installed WITHOUT the HD textures and afterwards optimized using the Optimizer Textures program. But still it did not run smooth before after tweaking the graphics settings.
It is very playable now.
