i3-5010u without RDSEED and SMAP

Despite what's written in the product briefs my i3-5010u does not have RDSEED and SMAP.

http://www.mouser.com/pdfdocs/Broadwell_Platform_Brief.PDF

The program I've written crashes, and tools like "coreinfo" and "hwinfo64" don't show it, too. RDRAND works fine.

Is this something my NUC5i3MYHE is still due to receive with microcode along with a new BIOS (I am at v20)?

Graphics UI problem installing Ubuntu 14.04 LTS/14.10 on Intel NUC5i5RYH

Hi,

I'm new to Ubuntu but wanted to try it on my Intel NUC NUC5i5RYH. I've tried to install 14.04 LTS and 14.10 from a USB stick I made, but with both of these during the installation process all the onscreen UI (like the 'next', 'continue', 'ok' buttons) are blacked out and the window where the installation dialogue should be is just a black empty window. This meant I wasn't able to complete the install as I didn't know where to click to proceed. I tried instead running Ubuntu from a live CD and on the desktop the onscreen UI (like the maximise and close buttons) are all similarly messed up/glitchy.

I have managed to get the Ubuntu 15.04 beta to install from a USB stick and this seems to fix whatever problem is occurring but I'd prefer to be running 14.04/14.10.

model: NUC5i5RYH

RAM: 16GB CT2C8G3S160BMCEU (Crucial 8GB x2)

BIOS: RYBDWi35.86A.0137.2015.01017.1700

Processor: Intel Core i5-5250U CPU @ 1.60Ghz

Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 6000

Hard drive: 160Gb SSD - Intel SSDSA2M160G2C 3Gb/s SATA

I haven't tried installing any drivers or updating the BIOS yet (I think the NUC is running the latest version out of the box? 0137?)

Also, with Ubuntu 15.04 when trying to play a video using VLC I get green streaks/interference on the window (but the video plays ok using the built-in Video player).

I haven't tried Windows yet but I assume W7 won't have these kind of graphics problems?

Are these problems with Ubuntu occurring because of the HD Graphics 6000 card?

Any suggestions?

thanks

My new Intel NUC D54250 WYK , I  installed windows 8.1, having AzureWave AW-NB159H WiFi-blue tooth module. WiFi and Blue tooth is not working, Windows device manager  'Other device' showing question mark, ie. Network controller and SM Bus controller.Try to update the drivers but driver not found message is coming. Used Intel Driver Update Utility application and install new version of all the drivers but other than Chipset Device Software for Intel Nuc Ver.10.0.14 and CIR Driver Ver. 2.9.1007, are  installed. These two are failed to install. LAN is working OK. Anybody can help?

Power plug sparking

Just got a NUC, the 4th gen i5. The first time I tired to plug it in, sparks shot out of the power adapter as it came into contact with the aluminum case. I'm assuming that this is not supposed to happen. The unit is working fine but I'm worried about unforeseen damage. It would be a seven hour round trip drive to the store to return the unit and there are no more in stock. What should I do with it? In the future I plan to put some sort of insulation around the metal case surrounding the power plug. Right now I'm afraid to unplug it for fear of it happening again next time I plug it in.

Underclocking/undervolting CPU to reduce heat?

I have the 4th gen i5 version of the NUC. I would like to reduce heat output and fan noise by reducing the performance of the CPU. Is this possible? I am running Xubuntu 14.04 so it already runs plenty fast at 1.3GHz. Thanks.

NUC5i5RYH wakes up by itself

I have a new NUC5i5RYH running Linux pretty well and being used as a HTPC.

I want to use WOL which is enabled in the BIOS and appears to work. i.e. I can fire up the NUC from another system (running Windows and using Nirsoft's WakeMeOnLan) or even from my iPhone (using the Fing app).

However, it seems the NUC will wake up at other random times; generally within an hour or three from shutdown.

I thought it possible (but unlikely) something on my network was generating WOL packets so I have been using the Wireshark sniffer on my home LAN to check for spurious WOLs. Wireshark does see all the WOL commands I send intentionally but has not found any other spurious WOL packets.

While I could disable WOL in the BIOS, this is the first machine for which I really wanted WOL to work so I'm loathe to take that step.

I really don't know what to do or try next. Any suggestions?

No HDMI output on NUC5i3RYH

I've got a new NUC5i3RYH and I can't get the HDMI out to work at all.

I've tried two different HDMI cables and have no response from my monitor.  First cable was a mini-HDMI(NUC) to HDMI(monitor).  Second cable was mini-HDMI to HDMI adapter on the NUC then HDMI to DVI.

The memory is Crucial ct2kit51264bf160bj.

The HD is Intel 530 in M.2 form at 180GB (SSDSCKGW180A401)

I'm not convinced that I'm not fighting bad cables.  BUT, during boot of the NUC, the external DVD drive makes no noise.

Does anyone have a part number for a cable that works?

It can be mini-HDMI or mini-Display port at the NUC end. It can be regular HDMI, regular DVI, or regular VGA at the monitor end.

no bios display on HDMI

Hi

So I just got my 5i5RYK (from the EPP store no less), and am having quite the issue. Using mini-hdmi to hdmi cable, I can not see the bios no matter what. I've tried multiple display devices (monitors, projectors, etc etc), no bios display at all. All display devices simply say "No signal". Booting a live Linux distro from a USB stick, I get display after the os boots. Display works even when switching to a real console, though the monitor still reports it's getting 1920x1080 which seems somewhat odd (obviously some scaling going on somewhere).

Tried a DP to DVI adapter just now, and I could see bios fine over DP. Problem is I changed the primary video output to HDMI, and disabled the secondary output in the bios, and I still can't see the bios over HDMI, and also now can no longer see it over DP either! Now it seems it's hopeless, unless there's some way to upgrade the bios completely blindly. Yesterday I also tried a FreeDos usb stick to upgrade the bios that way, no video output when it boots. Tried putting a windows ISO on a USB stick - no video output when that boots either.

This is seriously the most frustrating piece of hardware I've purchased, or worked with in the last 15 years. The only thing more frustrating is old servers that only have scsi controllers with with no matching driver support in the o/s installer! 3 other people in the same lab here have also got NUCs from the EPP store, and everyone has had some issue. Very disappointing indeed. Maybe some internal beta testers are needed to find more of these kinds of issues before products are released. As an Intel employee, I'm frustrated. I'd hate to think what my impression would be right now if I was a regular consumer who bought this off the shelf!

Hi

I have just bought my first Intel NUC the NUC5I3RYK to be specific. But i have unfortunately found out that the ir receiver aren't working out of the box. I have tried with Openelec 5.0.

I have tried updating the firmware and tried the following fix that seemed to work on haswell NUC but without any luck.

Re: Haswell NUC CIR receiver (ACPI issue?)

when I ssh into my NUC and type the dmesg i get the following text:

[ 3016.364580] nuvoton-cir 00:01: [io 0x03e0-0x03e7]

[ 3016.364625] nuvoton-cir 00:01: [irq 10]

[ 3016.365149] nuvoton-cir 00:01: IR PNP Port not valid!

[ 3016.365276] nuvoton-cir 00:01: disabled

does anybody have a solution for this? then it would be much appreciated.

What should I put in my new NUC? NUC5i5RYH

$

I bought a new NUC5i5RYH and am going to run windows 8.1

What is everyone's ideal system?  I am basically using it as a HTPC - watch movies, netflix, itunes sync to my ipads and iphones, and local photo storage (which I currently use a external 2 tb drive that I will just plugin)

I was thinking about getting a m.2 128/256 and then getting a 7200 rpm notebook drive for 1tb.  Will that run too hot?  I wanted to keep it as silent as possible.

So far:

Crucial MX200 CT250MX200SSD6 M.2 Type 2260DS (Double Sided) 250GB SATA 6Gbps (SATA III) Micron 16nm MLC NAND Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)  or considering a transcend 128gb? Thoughts?

Crucial 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR3/DDR3L-1600 MHz (PC3-12800) CL11 204-Pin SODIMM Memory for Mac CT2K8G3S160BM / CT2C8G3S160BM

I don't know what 2nd HD to get to fit in the 2.5 slot?  Any recommendations?

Any help in advance is greatly appreciated?  Am I missing anything?

D54250WYK - speed of processor limited by system firmware?

Is anybody getting these messages in their event logs:-

The speed of processor 0 in group 0 is being limited by firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for xxx seconds since the last report.

The speed of processor 1 in group 0 is being limited by firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for xxx seconds since the last report.

The speed of processor 2 in group 0 is being limited by firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for xxx seconds since the last report.

The speed of processor 3 in group 0 is being limited by firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for xxx seconds since the last report.

Where "xxx" varies from 71 to 86399 seconds.

This machine is essentially sitting idle on my desk (waiting for the USB3 fix ...hint hint) so its workload is negligible. I have noticed these since day 1 but because I had so many other things to sort out it was low on my priority list. I can't see any pattern as to how often they occur but it is at least 3 times every 24 hours. A quick Google search talks about turning off Speedstep in the BIOS but that sort of defeats the purpose of having speedstep doesn't it?

Any thoughts?

No Display - Sony KDL32W5500 - Intel NUC d34010wyk

Hello All,

I have a new Intel NUC d34010wyk, updated with BIOS version 0035.

It is not able to display output on my Sony KDL32W5500 via HDMI for Boot/Splash, BIOS, or installed OS (Openelec).

The HDMI cable used is new and of good quality, no adapters.

I know the Sony TV to be working via HDMI as I have multiple devices working with it (same socket): OUYA; PS3; Laptop with Intel/nVidia hybrid graphics.

I know the NUC is generally working as I have been able to connect it to another TV (24", Kogan brand).

I have attempted to correspond with Sony, but had no reply.

I have corresponded with Intel email support, but am told 'it works with other TVs, it must be the TV at fault'. This may be, but  I can't seem to get them to venture any further into working the problem.

I know the TV supports multiple resolutions, does anyone know what resolution andfrequency the NUC BIOS uses?

I read in these forums that other NUC BIOS have been set at 1024x768, but no mention of frequency.

Re the OS not displaying, I know the Intel drivers used are older in Openelec than my laptop (also linux based, which works), so this may be part of the problem for the OS, but that is independent of the BIOS display.

Thanks for reading!

Does the NUC5I5MYHE have a wireless card built-in?

I've ordered a NUC5I5MYHE kit and intend to connect it to the wireless network in my house. On Intel's page for the product, it has listed "M.2 22x30 slot and wireless antennas pre-assembled (for wireless card support)" - does this mean the device comes with a wireless card built-in, or I'll need to buy an M.2 wireless card separately?

So got my nuc together and now it says Bios has detected unsuccessful post attempts.  It blinks 3 times when it starts.  Not sure where to go from here?

I went with the Crucial ram 8 gb, single stick and a transcend 256 meg m.2.  They both are being read in the bios but I don't know whats wrong.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My setup is below. I can see the 8 gigs of ram in the bios and I can see my m.2. The single ram is set it the bottom slot.

I think I have my BIOS settings correct but I can't get wake on Lan to work. Can anyone suggest what I am missing - I have tried using an IP Scanner that has wake on Lan built in, but also a Linux app that sends the magic packet.
