Distorted sound from analog jack on NUC5i7RYKH

Hi all,

This one's got me stumped.  I'm having an audio issue after migrating to a newer NUC. Let me preface this by saying yes I know what I did here isn't the preferred method for migrating.

I've been running a Windows 7 64-bit installation on a D54250WYK and it has been awesome.  I decided to upgrade to better graphics by moving to a NUC5i7RYKH.  I did this by replicating to a new SSD, booting on the new NUC, and allowing the system to detect all the new drivers.  I flashed to the newest BIOS first, and after all the detection, I ran the software update utility.  Everything worked perfectly (surprise!).  I did have to re-activate Windows, but I didn't mind.

All was well until I connected headphones to the analog audio jack. The audio coming from it is badly distorted.  HDMI and DisplayPort audio are flawless.  When I connect the headphones to the audio out from my monitor they sound fine.  It's only through the analog that I get the distortion.

This is by no means a major issue.  As I said, I can connect to the audio out on the monitor to work around it, but it is annoying that I can't use the analog jack.

I've gone through several dozen posts online, including Microsoft's recommendations, but nothing seems to change the distortion.  I've tried running it without the Realtek drivers, modify any and all settings, removing and reinstalling the drivers, etc. No luck.

Yes, I could simply re-install from scratch, but it hardly seems worth it for a minor issue like this.

Hardware-wise I know the jack works.  I ran Windows 8.1 on it initially, and also tested with Linux Mint, so it's something with the driver.

Thanks in advance!

NUC5I3RYH - video stuttering while streaming

$

0

I have recently bought a NUC5I3RYH system to be used as an htpc.

The biggest disappointment was that after I updated the system to the latest bios, drivers and windows 10 os (as of 09/29/2015),  the streaming quality is worse than the streaming quality on my 5 years old Philips Blue Ray player I use to stream Netflix.

Any show I try to stream via Chrome or Mozilla Firefox web browser on the NUC experiences continuous video stuttering.

An example is "S2:E11 The Good Wife" show

Same issue I have experienced also with Windows 8.1 and after I increased via the BIOS the graphic card memory allocation to 1G.

I stream the same shows on the Philips blue ray without any problems.

Can you help?

Here after is the graphic driver info:

HDMI Fails to handshake with monitor NUC5PPYH

$

0

I have had possession of 2 different NUC5PPYH boxes. Both have had very similar problems. I returned the first and still have the second.

The problem is intermittent. My NUC will reboot without initializing video to the connected monitor. I have tried this using 2 different  HP2511x monitors and a TCL 40FS4610 TV. All units are HDCP compliant and will work with about any HDMI compatible device on the market. Neither have problems. I have tried several different inputs on all units.  POST fails to display on boot, although all of the lights come on and I can see that there is communication over the LAN connection. I can SSH to the box and force the NUC to reboot from the command line. Usually the video will handshake and work on the second try.

Since this is the second box with the same or similar problems I suspect that this device is desperately in need of a firmware update to resolve this issue.

The BIOS on my unit is PYBSWCEL.86A.0031.2015.0601.1712 and it fails to update in bios setup screen, so I guess INTEL hasn't released one yet.

But any bios update should include a fix for this as I have noticed that there are a lot of complaints here concerning video not working .

I suggest that INTEL gets this bug fixed since there are a lot of folks here who intend to uses these little computers as set top boxes. And if they don't play well with the average consumer TV you might wind up taking a bunch back as warranty returns.

NUC won't boot after suspend - must pull cmos battery

$

First D5425WYK wouldn't take an OS install (multiple linux flavors: legacy and UEIF, stock and latest BIOS, multiple disk drives as well). I had continual IO errors - after dozen of hours it was clear the unit was faulty.  I held out longer than usual because I have had good experiences with Intel ethernet adapters, and their motherboards have gotten good feedback for linux compatibility and quality.  Why would it fail?  Well the NUC seems to come from a different "branch" of Intel...

I RMA'd that one and tried a new unit.  I got further but still have major issues.

Suspend is a key feature with the "NUC" idea that is anchored in energy efficiency.  I wanted something quiet and the NUC good for sound as long as it isn't in serious use.  Using a modern GUI the GPU fires up and the fan seems to oscillate between resting and sprint modes.  At times it is QUITE loud.  My wife is borderline hard of hearing and complained about having the unit near the kitchen.

So I turn on suspend so that at least the sound issues are only when the computer is in use.  And that's where my seemingly good install goes off the rails.  Suspend is 50/50 for booting back up.  When it doesn't wake up it's 50/50 for responding to hard reboot.  If hard boot doesn't work you have to disassemble the whole unit, which isn't so easy, and pull the CMOS battery.  The CMOS battery harness in on the reverse side of the circuit board that is normally exposed from taking the case apart.  Getting to the CMOS battery is a real trick - super fun for something that will seemingly be common on this unit.

Any how I pulled the CMOS battery and turned off "wake on LAN".  Lots of people are facing bricks on these NUCs and that's one of the seeming fixes.  Well I "non-booted" again after a failed suspend and after turning off WOL so I can only double fault the terrible BIOS on this unit.  Intel is on the 33rd version and it doesn't work.  So now I'm very frustrated.  I just tried live chat but it was too busy - no one to field my chat.

Any how...  I'm an MIT electrical engineer with a decade of linux under my belt and two decades of system building.  I built a computer from scratch for a class in less time than I've spent on my multiple NUCs and that was literally wires and breadboard.  My impression of Intel is torched with the poor BIOS implementation here.  Intel - get on it or stop selling garbage.

Why won't your NUC's boot?  I just don't get it.  I understand suspend not working... that's been tricky for the Taiwanese MB manufacturers like ASUS and Gigabyte.  I would expect Intel to get it right but to brick on suspend is a total failure.

DN2820FYK - no Display Scaling under Win7

Hi folks.

I've just got a DN2820FYK, which after a bit of fuss I got Windows 7 Pro x64 running on.

Problem is, my TV's default overscan setting means that a good part of the screen is not visible.  On my previous machine (DH61AG with Celeron G530) I was able to use the Display Scaling function to reduce the screen size so I could see everything (I think it was reduced by 50%).

However, on the drivers for the DN2820FYK the only option is "Maintain Display Scaling" - I can't change it off this setting to shrink the screen.

What gives?

NUC5i3RYK doesn't want to boot on my M2 SSD drive

Hi,

I've got a NUC5i3RYK unit with 2x4GB DDR3L-1600 RAM and a M2 Transcend TS64GMTS800 SSD drive.

I've installed on the SSD Drive a Windows 7 Pro without any problem. I've let the NUC on a table for a moment (1 month) and when I restart it today, it doesn't want to boot on the SSD Drive, arguing that no bootable media was found.

I've taken another NUC5i3RYK unit and placed on it the SSD drive and the RAM drive and then power it up, and it boot on Windows 7!

On the faulty NUC, I've upgraded the BIOS, but it doesn't change anything. I've compared the BIOS settings on both units, and they are the same.

I'm really lost. Was someone placed in the same situation?

Many thanks in advance,

Can you provide sample code for using Prog_LED# and WDTO#

Intel® NUC Board D54250WYB tech product spec says: "Prog_LED#: general purpose signal output that indicates when an event was triggered by the operating system. Signal is amplified by a transistor. Intel can provide sample code for customers who may want to write their own applications leveraging this signal."

So can you provide that sample code for Windows? I am also interested to utilised WDTO#/GPIO as well.

DE3815TYBE Power ON Fail

Hi,

I was with an issue during power on of the DE3815TYBE with v43 or v44 BIOS.

Sometimes when I plug the power cord and press power button the power led turns on and after 2 seconds turns off. And the board don't turns on. If I press the power button again, the board starts correctly.

This issue happens only when the power cord is unplugged and I plug it, but only sometimes.

This is not critical but is an annoying issue. Did anyone see that?

Nuc D54250WYK : 4 Nucs same problem! Hard Disk not recognized.

I got 4 Nuc D54250WYK, they suddenly don't recognize the hard disk (Sata) during the boot, just after the memory check. At this point you can only turn the computer off and try to turn it on again. Sometimes it works after many attempts. In some of these Nucs I updated the Bios, I have checked the RAM, formatted the disk, reset the Bios. The computer seems to work for a while but than, it stops working again.

Sometimes the pcs start working really really really slow and you must turn them off.

Sometimes I find on Windows Logs the even id 11.

4 computers, same model, same problem, it's amazing!

Any idea?

Thanks

NUC5i3RY*: Bug in BIOS Version RYBDWi35.86A.0249.2015.0529.1640

Hi,

I have a NUC5i3RYH with latest BIOS version and I've disabled the CIR receiver in BIOS setup. However, after resuming from S3 (hybrid standby and S4 are disabled in Win 8.1 Pro and Intel® Ready Mode Technology is NOT enabled/used) Device Manager shows an unknown device with following ID:

ACPI\PNP0530\0

There is no driver for this device and it doesn't matter if CIR was previously enabled in BIOS setup and the Nuvoton driver installed in Win 8.1. If you reboot the system, the unknown device is not visible until putting system in S3 sleep mode and then resuming.

I think, this is a bug because the disabled CIR is still somehow visible to the OS. When CIR is enabled, its hardware ID is very similar:

ACPI\NTN0530\0

Thanks.

NUC5I3RYH: Win 8.1 x64 crashes after entering sleep mode

I have been seeing this issue since updating to latest BIOS Version 0350 - RYBDWi35.86A.0350.2015.0812.1722 and/or the latest graphics and/or bluetooth and/or wireless drivers. Following happens approx. once a week:

1. Put NUC into sleep mode and wait at least 10 minutes.

2. Try to resume (keyboard strike) -> this doesn't work, as Windows has crashed.

3. Power on NUC and check system event log -> "13.11.2015 20:53:56" (as an example) is the time stamp of entering slep mode (next event is the powering on).

4. Using WinDbg load and analyze the crash dump file:

Debug session time: Fri Nov 13 20:58:56.147 2015 (Note: This is exactly 5 minutes after entering sleep mode).

According to Microsoft, the usbhub3.sys driver is not causing the problem. One of the devices connected to the USB3 HUB or its driver is causing the problem.

The only connected external device is a keyboard. I suspect the Intel bluetooth module (part of the wireless card) or its driver (version 17.1.1532.1813) causing the problem. It seems that Windows tries to enter the sleep mode for exactly 5 minutes and then crashes due to A driver has failed to complete a power IRP within a specific time.

NUC5i3RYH - USB problems

USB ports on the backside of my brand new NUC5i3RYH don´t recognize any USB-devices.

I installed a 128GB SSD drive (M.2) and 8GB RAM. First, i installed the UBUNTU Version 14.04 on the SSD and everything was working fine.

After this, i installed UBUNTU 15.10. When i now shut down (or try to shut down...) the system, i get the message USB3-1-port 7 "over-current condition" alternating with USB3-1-port 8 "over-current condition" like the cast at the end of a movie. The system hangs there and i have to press and hold the start button on the NUC to shut it down. Then i realized, that the USB-Ports on the backside of the system no longer recognize USB devices. But also the yellow port on the front side is no longer working, when the OS is taking over.

As the device is just several days old, i feel like sending everything back.

Any hints ? I didn´t really find my issue somewhere posted. Correct me if i´m wrong.

Best regards,

NUC5i5RYH HDMI stopped working

So appearently my NUC suddenly decided that it won't output over HDMI anymore.

My half a year old NUC which i'm running as a media center worked fine until now. I turned it on as usual but the screen stayed black, the NUC itself seems to be working fine (power led, hdd led, lan led, i can access it over lan).

The things i tried with my limited recources are: cable in/out, cable plugged into different ports on my av receiver, cable plugged into different ports on my tv.

Both tv an av-receiver are telling me there is no signal.

So what could have happened?

Hi,

I do have a new Intel NUC5i5RYH running on Windows 10 Pro. When I download the latest wireless driver Win10_64_18.12.4.exe I cannot even start the setup. It just happens nothing.

Anyone else with this issue?

The current used driver is the one from Windows 10 - version 17.15.0.5.

Thanks!
