I'm using an i5 NUC as small internal home server, and I would like to use it to play internet radio as well. It's hooked to the analog input of the stereo amplifier using a standard 3.5mm jack cable.
This used to work fine on its predecessor, an Acer Revo 3610, but the analog NUC output, which is marked as a headphone output combined with a headset output, does not recognise any audio device attached. When I plug in the cable, the driver asks whether I attached a headset or a headphone pair, and I reply a headphone. Yet afterwards I get an empty window stating no audio device was found.
The Realtek High Definition Audio device shows up properly installed in device manager (using W7 Pro).
So what am I doing wrong?
Edit: tested the cable, it is working perfectly. Attaching a working Sony headphone pair to the front connector yields the same result: "no audio output device installed". Removing the driver and installing the latest from the Intel site (which specifically stated this was the driver for the front audio connector) does not change anything.
Anyone? Please help. Thanks!
Hello - I've a Sony VAIO VGN-NW240F laptop. The current CPU is a T6600, clocked at 2.2 GHz.
The Sony has an FSB of 800 MHz, and no BIOS update has ever been released. However, I'd like to see what is the maximum / fastest Intel CPU I can swap out the current one for.
Running CPU-Z I get that the chipset is GM45/GM47 and the socket P (478 pins). Also found this list http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/CPUs/Intel/Core_2_Duo_Mobile/T9500_%28Socket_P%29.html
Will *only* the 800 MHz CPUs work?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Hi all,
I have bought the NUC5I7RYH & the NVME version of the Samsung SM951.
In the bios the SM951 is visible (as legacy device) but when I try to install Windows 7 the drive does not show up in the list of hdd's where I can install Windows 7 on.
There are no further drives installed.
I have tried to install this with a normal USB stick install and also via the in native EFI mode from USB but the drive simply does not show up in the windows install window.
Also I have tried the method below but also this did not do the trick
Does anybody know how I can get Windows 7 installed?
thanks in advance

Hi guys,
I am using the NUC DE3815TYBE for an embedded system and I need to use the three internal USB headers. But when I plug the AC adaptor on the board these internal headers are powered on. This problem happens only in this case, if the AC adaptor is plugged and I turn the board on and after I turn it off, these headers are powered off. But if I unplug and plug the AC adaptor the headers are powered on again. The external USB ports is working fine, this problem happens only in the internal headers.
At now I am using the 44 BIOS version, but I tried other versions and happened the same.
Can anyone help me?
Hello, I have a NUC5i7RYH with 3 displays connected. 2 are Dell dp daisy chained monitors and the third is a tv over hdmi. When the machine goes to sleep and then resumes, most of the time the two display port monitors do not come on. The NUC acts as if they are not connected. No amount of unplugging and swapping connections will cause them to come on via the display port. Usually I can put the machine back to sleep and wake it up again and it will resume properly. The monitors work fine when I connect them to other machines.
Is anyone else having this issue? / Suggestions on correcting this?
I am on the latest display driver and using windows 10x64.
Hello,
I purchased a NUC5I3RYH and wanted to buy a second power supply. The problem is that I cannot find the same model (FSP065-10AABA). A local store has the FSP Twinkle 65 which seems to have similar specs. But I have damaged a computer in the past for having hooked the wrong AC adapter. So I am asking if anyone knows if the FSP Twinkle 65 is compatible with the NUC5I3RYH. It is not on the list of NUC compatible hardware. Could anyone help me ?
Best regards,
John38
When in s3, the power button blinks. When I press it, it gets blue again. But this is all. Screen stays black, no audio feedback, e.g. when I insert/remove an UBS device.
Since I use hybrid suspend, I can switch off and on again, but this is not what I want.
I tried it also with Ubuntu, no difference.
I see Kingston HyperX KHX18LS11P1K2/16, two 8Gb 1866Mhz sticks with CL11, listed here:
http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/dk-nuc5i7ryh/sb/CS-035441.htm
http://www.kingston.com/datasheets/KHX18LS11P1K2_16.pdf
Does that also count for the HyperX Impact 1866Mhz CL11 HX318LS11IBK2/16 as listed below, given the same specs?

I had a dual boot Win7 and Linux Mint build on NUC 5i5RYK. Bluetooth worked, but was very problematic, especially if I switched between OS's. But eventually, even just staying in Linux, I often had to repair. One day, it just stopped working altogether. The Bluetooth manager was faded out and I couldn't turn anything on. In Windows, there were no Bluetooth drivers in Device Manager. I installed the latest Wi-Fi driver and then Bluetooth driver for the NUCs. Got an error installing the second one. Flailed in Linux to no avail. Updated BIOS where Bluetooth was enabled.
Finally, I just wiped the entire drive and installed Windows 10 from scratch. Still no sign of Bluetooth. Anybody know what is going on? This is starting to feel like a hardware issue to me. Is there some way to enable the Bluetooth radio at the hardware level? Do I maybe need to call Intel Support?
Hi everybody,
I built a fanless PC with NUC5i5RYK in AKASA Newton S case.
When the PC is working : no noise at all. When it's idle there is a screeching sound.
I disconnected my samsung SSD and boot on linux live : same problem.
There is only a cruciel 8Gb memory card installed on motherboard.
I tried to change some bios settings about performence, power, etc... but nothing remove this noise.
Do you have any ideas ?
Thank's.
Hi there,
I purchased an NUC INTEL and install an BX100 SSD. All was fine, I installed Windows 8.1.
Then, following a bunch of windows updates, the SSD is now not detected, even in the BIOS.
I tried to downgrade/upgrade the bios, but still the same problem.
I put the SSD as a slave in another desktop, and it is detected fine so i dont think the SSD is the issue.
Not sure why would a hardware problem (SATA controller ?) happen following a window update
Should I just RMA the unit to INTEL or anything else I should try ?
Bought 5i5RYH couple of days ago, and I'm very happy with it overall.
Haven't had any issue so far, runs fast enough, its not too noisy(but I don't play any games or run CPU/GPU intensive applications), have great BIOS and driver support imo.
However its not perfect, the fan noise was definitely loud enough and noticeable(4600-4900rpm) during benchmark test, its fine for playing movies etc but when its quiet you can still hear the fan noise even if the CPU is idel(~45°C, ~3200rpm).
Its real shame imho because Asus(VivoMini) and MSI(Cubi) are same size, use similar size heatsink/fan and also have same 15W TDP processors, but they run much quieter than Intel(NUC). Not 100% sure about Gigabyte(Brix) but I'm pretty sure it also runs quieter than NUC. (and I'm only comparing them against i5 NUC, not the super loud/hot i7 NUC)
Obviously Asus, MSI, Gigabyte have expertise in developing quiet and efficient heatsink/fans from years of experience from notebook/graphics card cooling solutions, but I'm sure Intel could have used better heatsink/fans on NUC if they spent little bit more effort.
Fact that small UK based company called QuietPC sell UltraNUC Pro(Intel NUC with their own better/quieter heatsink/fan) at rip-off price proves my point I think. (UltraNUC Pro but unfortunately they don't sell the heatsink/fan by itself) They also sell Abel B2 Fanless i5 NUC Chassis, but its much larger than standard NUC case and also expensive, $230+. (I'd buy it if it was same size and price was $100-$150)
I definitely wouldn't mind spending $40-$70 for better/quieter heatsink/fan for i5 NUC, and I'm sure many other NUC owners(especially people with i7) would do the same thing.
Dear Intel,
Would it possible to sell us better heatsink/fan at additional cost? i.e.
- find better heatsink/fan manufacturer to produce better quality heatsink/fan.
- get current manufacturer to produce better heatsink/fan at higher cost.
- contact 3rd party manufacturers(e.g. Noctua/Coolermaster etc) to develop and sell their own heatsink/fan for NUC.
Silent/quiet operation noise is emphasized on Asus VivoMini(https://www.asus.com/Commercial_Desktops/VivoMini_UN42_commercial) and MSI Cubi(Desktop - The most versatile consumer pc) websites for obvious reason. I think Intel could attract more buyers if it was also listed on NUC website, and would be good for Intel's image/reputation.
Why risk losing potential buyers to other company by using low quality heatsink/fan, when you have the best processors/graphics cards with the best driver support and after sales support, etc?
I sincerely hope improved Intel heatsink/fans will be available for gen5 NUC in near future. But if not, please at least improve the cooling on gen6 NUC.
Thank you very much.
p.s. I was gonna buy i7 Cubi when I found out the heat/noise issue on i7 NUC but ended up buying i5 NUC cos I couldn't even get confirmation if 500GB mSATA SSD will work on Cubi etc from MSI forum.
Anyway, I'm planning to buy another small barebone next week for second PC, probably i3/i5 NUC/Cubi, or maybe i7 Cubi if I decide to gamble on mSATA and Win7 support and use it for main system.
The Google tells me I'm not the only one with this issue but I haven't seen anything that looks like a solution. I have a very stock setup, 8GB RAM, 750GB WD Black HDD, HDMI monitor, KBD/Mouse connected via KVM all running under Windows 7 Home Premium. I have a USB 3.0 hard drive cradle, external powered with 2 bays. If I put a drive in one of the bays and try to run a CHKDSK or create an image backup, the process fails due to the drive disconnecting. Most of the time the drive immediately reconnects but the damage is done at this point. When it occurs, Windows sends the pop-up window announcing that a new drive has been detected. FWIW, Windows then considers the drive dirty so a CHKDSK needs to be run resulting in an endless cycle eventually leading to madness.
This seems to happen only under heavy load. If I simply leave the drive in the cradle and even if I peruse it, there is no disconnection. It's not the drive itself, have tested several both 3.5 and 2.5. It's not the cradle, I've been using it for quite a while on different machines and only just put it on the NUC. It would not appear to be old or missing drivers as I just updated them from the Intel site today. I believe I am on the current BIOS version, updated last week. There are no messages in the Event Log that indicate a problem.
The feel here is that either the driver or the USB hardware simply can not tolerate a sustained high data rate. Has anyone ever solved this problem?
Joined the community in hope someone can help me.
I bought a NUC5i5RYH and have installed Openelec and Windows 10, which automatically starts within 2 seconds of a shutdown from both Openelec (Kodi) or Windows 10, this is running with Hyper X 8gb DDR3L 1600 SODIMM memory and 320gb 2.5" Toshiba HDD. I have updated the bios to the current 0350 bios from the Intel website and have also switched off WOL or any wake setting in the bios to no avail. I don't see any settings for Deep S4/S5, the settings i have are Wake on LAN from S4/S5, Wake from S5, Wake S3 via CIR, Wake from S4 or S5 via CIR.
Obviously this is a problem many share and is there a solution out there, as i can't find one that works for me. is Intel doing anything about this?
I asked this question in another thread but did not get any replies so I figured I would try here.
Does anyone else own a NUC5i7RYH whose fans hit max RPM during even minor computing, like web browsing or even if Windows update is installing something in the background? 6000+ rpm is as loud as a hair dryer and is disappointing considering I do not use this NUC for gaming or any intensive applications.
I have underclocked my CPU (in Windows 10 power management - set max frequency to 80%). I think this disabled turbo boost as well. So far there haven't been any fan outbursts, but if this doesn't solve the problem then I may attempt undervolting the CPU to control heat. Has anyone had to do this or found any success with it?
Thank you!
I dual boot Windows 10 and Ubuntu Desktop 15.04 (95% of my time is in Ubuntu). The system did not recover from sleep mode this morning. Fixing it was a major PITA. I took the unit apart, unplugged the CMOS, reassembled, made a physical connection to the network, enabled UEFI, disabled legacy boot and successfully updated the BIOS. Now running RYBDWi35.86A.0350.2015.0812.1722. Then I disabled UEFI and enabled legacy boot and was able to restart my system and get back to Ubuntu successfully. That wasted a full hour of time. I don't even want to have to do that again.
Intel Support: Please confirm that you have fixed the BIOS bug that has been causing this problems for Ubuntu/Linux users.
If the bug is still alive and kicking, please describe the steps and settings required to keep it from happening again (for now I set the Ubuntu power setting to "Don't Suspend"). In the BIOS I have enabled the USB 4/5 setting.
Thank You,
EE
I have an NUC5i7RYH driving a Dell UP3216Q in 4K via displayport. I am using the audio out of the monitor to drive a set of external speakers. The problem I am having is disconnected audio after the system returns from a period of sleep. When the system goes into sleep mode I lose displayport audio in playback devices completely. I have to reboot or disconnect and reconnect the displayport cable to restore the displayport audio option. I have all of the latest drivers and BIOS. Is anyone else have this issue?
