restart fail with NUC 5CPYH

I'm working with NUC 5CPYH, with last bios version PYBSWCEL.86A.0056.2016.0901.1751.

I should use this machine in production in an always on enviroment (24 hours on each day), and for more stability I need of a midnight restart, but often the nuc fails to restart and hangs in a strange situation:

  • The screen is black (No Signal)
  • The power led is on.
  • As soon as I press the power button the system shutdown.
  • On the next power on there aren't errors in ths sys op.

I'm facing this error on Ubuntu 14.04/16.04 both in 32/64bit versions with all the NUC that I bought (20+).

For check the problem I have added in /etc/rc.local this code:

sleep 60 && reboot

and the system fails to restart after a random number of times.

Anyone else have found a solution for this?

NUC5i5ryh wakes up immediately after shutting down/suspend

My NUC started to act strangely after I upgraded to Ubuntu 16.04. But now it exhibits this behaviour even if the OS is not yet booted.

This is what happens:

  • at the initial connection to the power, it remains turned on
  • if I turn it off via its power button, _before_ booting into the OS, it turns back on
  • if I let the OS boot (ubuntu xenial), shutting it down from the menu/shutdown command causes it to turn back on
  • if I suspend from the OS the same thing happens.

I went through all settings, disabled Wake On LAN|USB whatever, still the same. I've now upgraded the BIOS to  RYBDWi35.86A.0359.2016.0906.1028, still the same.

I was disabling acpi wakeup sources through /proc/acpi/wakeup, didn't help.

There's no sign of the wakeup reason either in the dmesg log, nor in dmidecode. No sign in the BIOS event log.

I am stuck. I've already did a CMOS reset, basically everything I could think of.

It is driving me crazy, as I have to manually unplug the box after every boot, frustrating.

Anyone knows how this could be troubleshooted? Any other idea?

Thanks

NUC 5i5RYH - INTENSO SSD SATA 3 - Cannot install windows 10

Hey @ all I have a NUC5i5RYH, trying to install windows 10 on an Intenso Sata 3 SSD. BIOS does detect the SSD spontaniously in UEFI Mode but when I try to proceed with the windows setup I receive "Please ensure that the controller of the device is set "active" in the BIOS menue"  -> My BIOS Version is: RYBDWi35.86A.0359.2016.0906.

After 10 hours google I suggest that there is an mainboard sata controller driver issue.... is there an driver that I can select during win installation?

Skull Canyon (NUC6I7KYK) - Random Reboot.

Per the request of Intel support, I'm making a separate thread for this, originally discussed here.

Re: Skull Canyon (NUC6I7KYK) - Random Reboot.

I've tried the following;

1. Updating my BIOS (v. 42).

2. Updating the firmware of my Samsung 950 Pro to the latest version.

3. Resetting my BIOS settings to default.

4. Switching the power profile in Windows 10 to maximum performance.

5. Testing my memory with Memtest86.

6. Monitored the temperature of the CPU which goes up to about 80 degrees under load.

7. I've confirmed my ram is running at 2133MHz

As stated above, I'm using the following;

1. G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 32GB (2 x 16G) 260-Pin DDR4 SO-DIMM DDR4 2133 (PC4 17000) Laptop Memory Model F4-2133C15D-32GRS

2. SAMSUNG 950 PRO 256GB M.2 SSD.

what is intel's email address? Or is there other ways to contact them? the customer support on the website is constantly unavailable, and a phone number would not be an option because i dont live in the US.

I need to contact intel about a warranty request for my broken processor. The customer support seems to be broken by itself and the live chat option is constantly unavailable, now i just want to contact them via email, if anyone can provide me with their email address?

NUC5i3RYH UEFI-only boot freeze

Hi,

I got a NUC5i3RYH kit recently and I'm having issues setting up UEFI-only boot.Disabling "Legacy Boot" in the BIOS settings leaves me with no video (monitor reports no signal even after replugging several times), no keyboard (NumLock isn't responding) and the system hanging without booting anything or telling me what went wrong. The system is not responding to F-key presses or generating a keyboard beep either.

I have to hold the power button to forcefully kill it. Rebooting solves nothing.

The only way to get back into the BIOS is the power button menu (hold until beep).

Enabling legacy boot alongside UEFI lets the system boot up normally again, but this isn't a solution for me as I require UEFI PXE booting (which for some ill-defined reason is completely forbidden if legacy boot fallback happens to be enabled).

This is reproducible under BIOSes 0358 (factory version), 0359 and 0360. I tried restoring factory settings, updating / recovering the BIOS, clearing the bootorder efivars, nothing.

Am I doing something wrong or is this unit defective?

What are the recommended IGD Aperture Size and IGD Min Memory for Skull Canyon with either 16 or 32 GB Memory?

What are those values for and when should they be adjusted.  I am using 3 screens at 1080p settings but may upgrade to 4k monitors.

Thanks,

Unified virtual memory

Hi all,

I have an Intel NUC6i7KYK and I would like to ask if it supports a unified virtual memory between the CPU and the integrated graphics chip Iris Pro 580. Is there a common page fault mechanism between the CPU and the GPU of the board?

Thank you in advance.

NUC6i7KYK - Loud rattle noise from FAN after 4 weeks of use

$

I've been using the NUC6i7KYK for several weeks from now (as a desktop computer use with 2 to 3 hours of time per day).

At the beginning, Fan noise was quiet (at boot and later after Windows 10 idle).

Now, after 4 weeks of use, this has changed :

- At Boot, the Fan speed is maximized and this is making a very noisy 'rattle' sound (vibrating like a ball bearing issue on the fan's motor),

- After Windows 10 launch, the fan speed is decreased to minimum and the 'rattle' noise is almost dissapearing with a quiet noise (as noisy as before).

Looks like the fan motor inside my unit is starting to be dead, no ??

Does someone else noticed the same noise issue after a while ?

Any advise, suggestions about this issue is appreciated.

John

NUC6i7KYK No 3D option from TV.

Hi there,

so after having many issues with my previous unit. i replaced my NUC6i7KYK with a new one.
Strange problem now - i have a digital Panasonic TV - 65" Inch. among other things the TV support 3D.

on the TV  - When i go to input "Hdmi 3" - (the nuc is connected on that HDMI port.) the TV option for 3D is grayed out. and i can't choose it.

If i will go to a different HDMI input - let's say my cable box on Input HDMI 2. then the 3D on TV - is not grayed out. and i am able to choose it.

the hardware should be fine - the Hdmi cables connected to nuc support 3D. and there are Draft 2.0.

i am using latest Drivers, and Bios.

Win 10 64bit - Fresh\Clean install.

Thank you all for your help.

BIOS 0054

Driver 19.20.3.4 (Oct. 31, 2016)

OS: Windows 10 64bit recently installed and fully updated

Connection: 50Mbs

From where the NUC currently is, my iPhone 6, my Android tablet and my former computer (iMac 2009) all download at 30/35 Mbs.

The NUC doesn't go faster than 20Mbs (5 Ghz) and a shocking 1Mbs (2.4 Ghz). It is a busy area, full of noises and whatnot, but certainly, at least in terms of sheer speed, the NUC is supposed to fare better?

Is there something I can do to improve the situation?

I recently acquired a nuc5cpyh. I have tried to prepare an usb stick with the recommended firmware update ‘issdfut_2.1.6’ using the Rufus tool, however it does not like the boot menu is responding to my input. My intention is to use the unit to get familiar with the recent LinuxLite 3.2. Anybody who can provide advice or a recommended checklist?

NUC6i7KYK - Created Raid array not showing up in BIOS/boot

$

Hi.

We recently purchased a NUC6i7KYK. Version H90766-405. I've updated to bios 042 (KYSKLi70.86A.0042.2016.0924). Installed 2x16GB ram + 2x256GB Samsung 950 Pro M2 drives. The plan is to install windows 7 Pro running raid 0. I've enabled remapping and created Raid 0 (and 1 for testing), the array is listed as bootable. BUT what ever setting i use i do NOT get it up under UEFI (shouldn't appear under legacy) as a bootable device in bios.

I've created a windows 7 image using Rufus 2.11 and selecting "GPT support for UEFI", i've used DISM GUI to embed USB 3.0 + the raid drivers to the both the boot.wim and install.wim files (and saved them onto the files ). I startup install fine, and when i come to disk selection, the raid disk is shown, but with a warning (Windows cannot be installed to Disk0 Partition 1 since my system may not support booting from this disk. Installer will not allow me to continue.

I would assume that i MUST see the raid in the bios as a bootable device, and i've tried selecting/deselecting boxes to get it working, but nothing has worked sofar.

If i select AHCI then i can't define raid but disk is shown under boot device

Intel NUC i218V NIC - Very slow transfer rates (2 NUC units)

$

Testing with 2 new D54250WYK and D54250WYKH NUC units, all BIOS, drivers, etc. with latest version updates as of 2014.08.21

Only seeing 11MB/s transfer rates across the Gigabit Ethernet connection when it should be 5-10X higher. Other systems on the same LAN, switch etc. with Gigabit Ethernet show no problems.

It looks like running at 100 Fast Ethernet speeds instead of Gigabit.

Have checked everything and fixed the adapter speed to "fixed" full duplex gigabit but nothing has changed.

Any thoughts ... has anyone else seen this?

Again seeing on 2 NUC units both purchased and setup within the last 3 weeks. All BIOS, driver and OS updates installed.

D54250WYK - Windows 8.1 64bit

D54250WYK - Windows Server 2012 R2 64bit (Yes works great and pretty easy to install the NIC driver)

Note: in the Advanced BIOS setup for the NIC there is no full duplex gigabit setting ... ?

NUC thinks it is running on battery

I've noticed seemingly random performance drops in some games, like overwatch. The drop is more than 50%, from 60fps avg to 20fps. The performance hit is persistent, i.e., not during intense action where you would expect a drop. It is even noticeable at the title screen.

While poking around in the intel control panel, I disabled "Extended Battery Life While Gaming", which dynamically adjusts the frame rate to prolong battery life. Problem solved!

The option is only available for Battery mode. What might trigger my NUC to think it is running on a battery? Performance is fine on a fresh reboot. Perhaps the cause is the system waking from sleep, display entering sleep mode, prolonged idling or my uninterrupted power supply?
