Power down USB ports in sleep mode?

NUC6i3SYH and Win10

I am using my NUC as an HTPC and it is desirable that the outboard DAC, which is connected through and powered by a USB port power down when the computer goes into sleep mode.   It appears that all the USB ports still provide power when the computer is powered down.   Is that true, and if so, is there a way to power them down when in sleep mode.

Environment: NUC6i7KYK "Skull Canyon", BIOS v 42, Win10 Pro x64, current with Windows Update, all current drivers from intel.com as of Friday. Using rear 3.5mm TRR to drive Bose Multimedia Series II speakers. Audio Quality in Speaker Properties Advanced Default Format is set for 24-bit, 48 Khz; the default setting it installed.

Description: I'm hearing ticks/pops frequently, usually at beginning or end of a sound (e.g, Windows event sound .wav sounds) but occasionally in middle of some sound playing.

Any suggestions/path to solution? Thanks in advance!

Skull Canyon Display Port vs. Dell monitor: bad display sleep karma

Environment: NUC6i7KYK "Skull Canyon", BIOS v 42, Win10 Pro x64, current with Windows Update, all current drivers from intel.com as of Friday, Dell U2410 display connected via DisplayPort. No firmware updates available from Dell for the display. Cable is Monoprice 13373 Select Series mini DisplayPort 1.2 to DisplayPort 1.2 cable.

Description: When Win10 shuts down the display via "Power & sleep, turn screen off after x minutes" setting, the display and NUC get in some kind of race condition where the display keeps changing from sleep to wake to sleep in a several second cycle. Mouse/keyboard activity does not change this condition. If the computer goes to sleep, then it comes back up fine. If I turn the display off/on from the power button, Windows audio bings a bunch of device state bings, and the display comes back up fine. Tried changing from DP to HDMI and HDMI seems to work as expected. Same monitor, different PC/different graphics card/driver, but also via DP and Win10 Pro x64, successfully powered down and up for years. All other functions, this monitor/cable/system seem to work exactly as expected.

Any suggestions/path to solution? Thanks in advance!

D34010WYKH Audio drops on HDMI Input switch

So I have had this computer running great for literally multiple years, this past week something has changed all of a sudden.

If I boot up the computer the audio works fine exactly how it should. When I turn off the TV or switch input and switch back to the NUC there is no longer any audio. It still lists it as being installed and visually all the settings look correct, but there is no audible output. I have tried changing HDMI cables, changed the input it was plugged into the tv, and made sure I had the latest graphics/audio driver installed from the intel website.  If i restart the computer the audio will come back until I switch inputs or turn the tv off, at which point when I go back to the NUC the audio is gone again.  It is like it is not "waking up" or reactivates the audio when I switch back to it, but if i watch when i switch the input back to the NUC it does change the sound icon from the "mute" symbol to the audible symbol...so it does detect that it should come "alive".  I will say the odd thing though is if I try to play a video it will play like 1/4 of a second and freeze. Like i can hear a blip of sound, but it immediately errors or freezes.
Ive reinstalled the drive multiple times :/

Any ideas?

NUC7i3BNH and Samsung UE55KU6400 HDMI problems

Hi everyone,

I've recently purchased a NUC7i3BNH and after installing memory and SSD I tried to connect to my Samsung UHD TV model UE55KU6400 and only got a black screen, no intel logo, nothing.

Then I tried to plug to my older Phillips TV and worked fine, installed Windows 10 and then tried to hot swap the cable to back the samsung and voila! Glorious 3840 x 2160 working just fine.

However, if I change source or turn off the TV and try to get back to Windows 10, I get a weird pink screen for a second and then a "No source" message from my Samsung. If i try to reboot the NUC, only blank screen again. The only way to get the screen back to the Samsung, is by doing the hot swap trick with the older phillips.

I'm no expert but I've spent the weekend learning about HDMI handshake issues and have tried updating all the drivers, the DEVCON trick and nothing works apart from hot swap. As that is not a practical solution I would like to ask if anyone can help.

Thanks!

Graphics output issues on Skull Canyon NUC

Hello,

A client has the i7 skull canyon NUC,

He has two Samsung 4k monitors -- one connected to mini displayport and the other to the thunderbolt 3.0 port on the system.

He has a third HDMI monitor connected to HDMI.

When booting, if the Thunderbolt port is connected, the system boot  loops, and never boots.

If he takes the thunderbolt monitor off, and boots, it boots fine, and then works fine when he plugs the third monitor in.

I am at a loss. Thoughts? Thank you.

NUC 6i5SYK Bluetooth problem

Hi,

I just want to share my experiences with a bluetooth problem experienced with my NUC 6i5SYK.

My setup is:

-NUC 6i5SYK

-Ubuntu 16.10

-Logitech K780 Keyboard - connected via Bluetooth

-Logitech MX Anywhere 2 Mouse - connected via Bluetooth

Problem description:

Connection via NUC build-in Bluetooth to keyboard & mouse established - but connection VERY unstable.

I experienced 2 types of issues.

Issue #1:

Sometimes it was impossible to make any connection to the NUC bluetooth on power up.

I managed to find a work around. You have to, physical, remove the power plug from the NUC when the it is power off and then just reinsert it again (I know it sound weird - but it always solved the issue.).

Final solution was to replace the power supply with a new one - received from Intel support.

Now this problem is solved

Issue #2:

The connection between NUC and the keyboard/mouse was very unstable. The result was that I VERY often lost the bluetooth connection and had to wait 10-20 sec. before the keyboard and/or mouse was reconnected.

I have tried almost everything to get things working. Updated BIOS, contacted Intel support, got my NUC swapped to a new one, disabled power savings in the BIOS - you name it.

Intel support gave up - so I was close to return to my good old USB keyboard and mouse.

But then I gave it a last try - and it worked - I disabled the build-in NUC bluetooth support and added a cheap 1 dollar USB bluetooth stick - and now, after 3-4 month struggling, everything works as expected

I have informed Intel about the problem and the solution. But they seem not to be interested - a least I haven't heard from them yet.

So, if you experiences any bluetooth problems - disable the build-in NUC bluetooth and add a USB bluetooth stick.

Best regards

Lars

NUC i5 with display going blank (NUC5i5RYH)

Among a few NUC's that I have is this NUC5i5RYH.     I had it in my living room for movie watching.

However, lately I've had multiple issues with the screen (and sound that comes from the mini-hdmi port) just stops.

It has happened wile looking at control panel settings, it has happened when watching a DVD.  It has also happened when the PC was sitting idle for a week.

I use a mini to regular HDMI adapter and a Samsung TV (Smart DVD - can supply model number if required)

Looking at a few threads with similar issues, can the support team advise

1)  Is there are a recommended BIOS and/or Video Driver version that is known to address this

2)  If related to power output , is there a way to increase this.  Would this happen when watching a video and it just goes blank. Does USB>HDMI solve this?

Many thanks and looking forward to solving this.

NUC7i3BNH HD audio passthrough problems

I have NUC7i3BNH with Windows 10 and Kodi 17.0 installed. Everything works fine except HD audio. I'm using hdmi connection to Marantz SR7009 and it doesn't recognize Dolby Digital Plus stream. DTS-HD works, but there is minor stuttering when starting or resuming playback. This is also happening with other players, so it is not issue with Kodi.

I have the latest BIOS (0036) and HDMI firmware (1.61).

My second unit (NUC6I3SYK) works fine with the same settings and programs.

Thanks for help.

dc3217 Power problem

5 year old unit became intermittent in the last few months.  After a commercial power failure the unit would no longer reboot ( power on) I replaced the CMOS battery, thinking that was the problem.  After attaching the power plug, only the LED on the power button seems alive.  There is never any video output. The five volt signal on the internal connector is not present. Attempting to restore the BIOS does not work, as pushing the power button just powers the unit down. About one in 20 tries, the internal 5 volt, and the fan are operable.

Needing help setup my NUC Kit NUC5i5RYK

Hello all,

I just got my setup about two days ago, and really nothing much has been setup yet.  My first one I was able to get into the BIOS pretty readily, but this I haven't a clue.  Granted I haven't read the owner's manual, and I guess I will if there isn't a response here.  One of the first items I'm having a problem with and shouldn't is the wakening up of the computer from being gone for ~30 min.  I can't wake the thing up!  I have music playing on it, so I know there's some life with it.  I just can't get it to wake up and anytime it goes to sleep, I have to reboot to start it up again.  I can't even get into the BIOS to change when it goes to sleep too.

Any help on this will be very much appreciated.

History - this is a replacement NUC that Intel sent to me.  The first one I bought on ebay and it lasted about 4 hrs till it went dead.  It's using a hard drive and 16 GB of memory.  The monitor is Acer and the keyboard/mouse is a wireless Logitech K350.

NUC6i7KHK Skull Canyon - Cannot Boot - BIOS Corruption

$

Hello, this is my first post but not one of joy... I have bricked my new 7 days old NUC...

I have spent the last 24 hours trying to revive it but alas, no joy, the BIOS has died.

After a failed update from 0042 to 0042+Integrator Toolkit the device only reboots cyclically without video output or keyboard input.

I have to mention that I was able to go in the BIOS once after that update to do a F9 (reset to Default) and since then it is bricked

After this failure, I tried every method posted by Intel but none works (F7 and the 3 seconds power button). I have tried these countless times with different BIOS versions on a Fat32 USB key, one at a time.

Then I went more serious and opened up the back cover of the NUC to proceed with the BIOS recovery and the dreaded jumper removal.

This it is where I have spent the last 12 hours. It doesn't work.

I also tried removing one of the two memory sticks and the NVMe drive.

Procedure Recovery Mode - Jumper out, USB stick with BIOS file in, Power ON. Result: Absolutely nothing. USB stick light flashes for 2-3 seconds (loading the BIOS I presume) then there is nothing. No screen, no keyboard. I still let it do what looks like nothing for a period of between 2 - 30 mins.  Then I shut it down myself. Remove the USB stick, replace the jumper over positions poles 1&2. Power ON. Then it starts doing the the cycling on/off as before...

I did the little procedure above SO many times and expecting different results. This IS the definition of insanity

Did this with BIOS versions 42, 41, 37, 35 and 34, numerous times, in different order...  No screen input, no keyboard, nada, just spinning happily in emptiness until I turn it off.

THEN... There was something very different with BIOS 0033!!  I thought I wasn't insane after all since I had a different result.

BIOS 33 does bring my screen up and accept my keyboard inputs. It even asks me sometimes what I want to do (little menu with F2, F4, F7, F10). Cool.

I also see the Intel NUC logo with the F2 F7 choices the other times I don't see the little recovery menu.

But it doesn't work... After my choice of Fx it just reboots and cycles showing me the Intel NUC logo screen with choices at the bottom right. Nothing I can choose on that screen, it just reboots every 5-10 seconds.

This is where I am at... I really think I did all I could to save it but obviously not enough.

Intel support team, you're my only hope.

Thanks for your time.

NUC BIOS keeping old boot device data

$

This is the first time I've seen something like this, and it's really quite annoying.

I have some Sandisk 32GB USB sticks onto which I've put an acronis restore image.

It seems that for some reason, I can boot from these on a NUC5i5RYK on the first pass, but if I apply an image, and then attempt to boot from those same USB sticks again, the NUC boot menu just hangs onto the fact that a Sandisk USB was used to boot from at some point -- even if I plug in a USB from another vendor (in this case, ADATA). It always shows as SANDISK UEFI USB BOOTLOADER. When I select that, the screen flashes and passes me back to the BIOS boot menu. It never sees the name of the USB stick as ADATA after that Sandisk has been used to boot it.

I have tried four USB sticks, all the same Sandisk stick design.

I've heard of some issues here and there with USB 3 chipsets on USB sticks, but never seen something like this, and I've done this literally thousands of times on other systems/motherboards.

This makes NO SENSE at all. The BIOS is up to date on this particular system, and I have not done  BIOS refresh, although I will try it. However, this is inane. If I boot from another NUC which hasn't been previously booted off that Sandisk USB, it will properly recognize the ADATA USB stick in boot menu and boot from it.

So it seems to me that for some reason, these NUCs are holding onto information about the device they previously booted from and refusing to let go of it.

This is possibly the most inane issue I've ever seen.

Hi there, my nuc is connected to my yamaha amp via hdmi. When playing a video from any source the audio cuts out spontaneously for 1 second or less every 20-60 seconds. It also shows on my amp that it is not receiving audio for that one second that it cuts out for. The bios and graphics driver are up to date, thanks.
