NUC Haswell reboots after shutdown

If I chose shut-down it turns off but starts again. How so fix? Ubuntu 13.10. NUC Haswell BIOS version: 0022 (same with 0018).

I just found this: Re: D54250WYK Shutdown Reboots

but the asker didn't reply. What should I try? (except I will not install windows because I don't have it because it's a proprietary bad anyway OS).

I'm testing an Intel NUC i5.

It sends a DHCP request containing an identifier which is not the MAC address.

Is there a way to configure it so that it sends the MAC address as part of the identifier?

Thanks.

IR Power On with D34010WYK Nuc

Have had a Nuc for a few months now but only just purchased a new Logitech Harmony Touch remote and cannot get my NUC to power on via IR.  I have to power on via the case button and once my OS has loaded the remote works fine for what I have configured it for.

I've done a lot of googling and the articles I've found suggest the Nuc requires an RC6/MCE Remote profile to be used and so I've used the Logitech myharmony.com site to apply and test lots of profiles to get the NUC to power on but cannot find a solution.  To be clear, once powered on I can use my remote without issue, it is only powering on the NUC I cannot get to work.

Would appreciate any suggestions anyone has?

DN2820FYKH Win7 Youtube 1080p framerate problem (Flash)

Hi,

I recently installed Windows 7 SP1 on my DN2820FYKH and have all the necessary drivers and I am experiencing issues with Youtube playback in 1080p with either Google Chrome or Internet Explorer 11. I have tried updating flash (Google Chrome has it built in) and updating Flash on the NUC for IE 11.

It just seems like the NUC struggles with 1080p content in both of these browsers, the CPU gets pretty high. I have tested playback of 1080p content through the VLC media player and it works great.

I am wondering, has anyone else experienced this issue? Any fixes?

D54250WYKH - Wont Detect HDD after Bios Update to .24

    Good afternoon,

I have recently purchased several NUC's for deployment in my business, I have discovered a repeatable BUG or ISSUE with the .24 Patch. The NUC's came from Factory with .21 BIOS installed, I was having issues with the systems being stable, and rebooting during Installing for Windows 7.  So after some testing, I discovered, that the RAM was bad.  I have since replaced it.  However, DURING my testing to verifty it was RAM I upgraded the BIOS of one of the NUC's to .24.  After that, it no longer showed the HDD (in this case a SAMSUNG EVO 840).  However, before the BIOS update, I had gotten 50% of the way thru an install onto that SSD.  I downloaded .23 and Flashed that, and now it boots and works fine.

So as I was working thru my batch of NUC's I thought I would test it out on another one, and yes it also removes the BIOS from seeing the NUC.

Is there a .25 PATCH planned for soon? I would of course like to have these devices fully updated before I deploy them.

Thank you,

Andrew C

New Bluetooth driver

I see the new Bluetooth driver (v17) has been posted to the NUC downloads list.

It seems irresponsible to do that without also warning that it is necessary to power cycle (pull the plug) after installation to get it working. Not knowing that has already cost a lot of people a lot of wasted time.

At least, this one does seem to work OK for me. (1 mouse, 1 keyboard)

I purchased a D54250WYK before the larger height cases were available.  Is there any plans to release, or any way to get a larger height case by itself, without the motherboard? And no, I don't want to go near those ugly aftermarket fanless aluminum chassis that double the size of the unit.

Remote boots one NUC, and not another

Hi there

I'm having a really strange issue with my xbox 360 media remote. It can boot my dn2820 nuc, but NOT my d34010 i3 nuc. The remote DOES work when the OS has loaded, openelec in this case, for both units.

I've tried a different rc6 compatible remote, a Microsoft MCE knockoff and it works fine for both when booting/operating.

Both NUCs running their latest bioses. I've tried resetting bios to default, no change. Tried disabling s4/s5, no difference.

Why is it that one nuc can boot using this x360 remote, yet the other cannot?

Please help!!

NUC doesn't boot (most of the time)

Hi,

I've recently purchased an Intel NUC D54250WYKH (SA H25101-102) to set up as a HTPC.

I installed the RAM (1x 4GB of Crucial CT51264BF160BJ) and the SSD (Intel 530s 120Gb) and closed it up and booted it up using a Windows 8 bootable USB. It went through the normal install, choose username stuff, then said disconnect the USB and click to restart. This is when the problems started. It refused to boot.

I tried 8-10 times to get it to boot before i removed the SSD and then it booted through the BIOS and said no OS found (as expected), so i put the SSD back in and nothing. Took the SSD back out and nothing. I continued to remove and replace the SSD whilst attempting to boot and randomly one it booted and i pressed F2 to enter the bios.

I read elsewhere in these forums that a BIOS update might help, so i downloaded the newest BIOS and F7'd to update, and it flashed successfully (updated to WYLPT10H.86A.0025.2014.0303.1008 as per attachment).

For about another hour i was unable to boot the device, then randomly it booted again, this time with the SSD in. It booted into Windows 8 had the welcome screen etc... but i was too far away from my router to plug in a LAN cable to update windows. I decided to reset the device through windows and see what happened. Unable to boot again.

I've tried reseating the RAM and SSD multiple times, tried starting the device with nothing plugged in apart from power, nothing apart from power and HDMI, still nothing.

I've read that resetting the CMOS might do something, but i'm unable to get the board out. I've removed the 2 screws holding the board down, but it seems impossible to take the motherboard out to access the CMOS battery.

If it helps, i've got it connected to a PC monitor using a miniHDMI to HDMI cable with a HDMI to DVI adapter. It's the only combination of cables and adapters i have to connect it to a PC monitor. I've also tried connecting it straight to a TV with the HDMI end, and same result.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Alex

D54250WYK: W7 USB clean install requires manual power cycle

$

I'm trying to do a clean install of Windows 7 from a USB flash drive onto a SSD in a D54250WYK.  The SSD (Intel 530) currently has Windows 7 already installed on it, so I am trying to re-install the OS.

Before booting from the USB flash drive, I have to do a manual power cycle (pull the power cord from the wall, wait several seconds, and then plug the power cord back in) or else the USB stops working when the initial Windows 7 "Install Windows" screen comes up.  The activity light on the USB flash drive goes dark, and the keyboard stops working.  This happens with both firmware 0024 and 0025.

Why is the manual power cycle needed for the USB to work?

DN2820FYKH not booting

$

Dear all,

I received my new NUC 2820 today, looking forward to spending the Easter holidays setting it up, but so far it's been a very frustrating experience.

I have installed:

  • Crucial CT51264BF160BJ (4 GB RAM, from the supported list)
  • OCZ Vertex 2 SSD

Using in combination with:

  • HP 2309m display (with HDMI)
  • Different USB drives (from 128 MB up to 16 GB)

After installing the hardware, I powered on the NUC. I heard the fan spinning and the lights on my mouse and keyboard came on, but the screen did not register an active connection. Finally, after several minutes, the screen came on, saying 'Detected BIOS security jumper removed'. Huh? I switched off the NUC and checked, and found no jumpers. After consulting Google, I located the place next to the RAM where the jumper should be, but it wasn't there. Remember, I just took the NUC out of the cellophane wrapper earlier today and didn't touch the jumper - it just wasn't there. I've checked the rest of the case, but there's no jumper to be found. Very strange. Luckily I still had a spare PC lying around, from which I took a jumper for the NUC.

Next step: powering on the NUC with a jumper installed. This seemed to be going better, for the first time I saw the 'Intel NUC' splash screen. But not the 'press F2 for BIOS' etc. texts I was expecting. Instead, it went straight to the text 'a bootable device has not been detected'. On the SSD, there's a Windows ISO that should boot, but it doesn't. I then tried removing the SSD and booting from a bootable USB drive with OpenElec. Didn't boot either, still says 'a bootable device has not been detected'.

Okay, so let's try to update the BIOS first, since one of the texts showed I'm on version 0015. However, as said I didn't get the prompt 'press F2 for BIOS' etc. - turned out I needed to put the jumper on backwards (as you can tell, I'm not very knowledgeable about these things) - then I did get the press F2/F7/F10 information on the splash screen. Unfortunately, I can press F2, F7 and F10 however much I want, the NUC doesn't seem to register this. I can see that the light on the keyboard is on and the keyboard does work when booting with the jumper removed, but here it doesn't seem to work. Well, then let's follow the instructions for Recovery BIOS update. I put the recovery 0028.bio-version on a USB drive, removed the jumper, and powered on the NUC. Screen doesn't receive input, and the NUC doesn't seem to do anything. Also doesn't seem to be reading any of the USB drives I tried. Once left it running for half an hour, just in case something was happening in the background, but still: nothing.

As said, the keyboard works (at least when given the 'security jumper removed, press 1 or 2' option), the monitor works, and I can see the USB drive light flashing (=being read) when trying to boot with the jumper installed, but the USB drive light stays off when trying to boot without the jumper, as if it's not even being read.

I have tried:

  • using a different USB drive for the BIOS update
  • using a different USB port for the USB drives
  • using a different HDMI cable
  • using a different screen (Samsung tv)

All to no avail. So: I can't boot from the SSD, I can't boot from the USB, I can't get into the BIOS and I can't update the BIOS, not even with the emergency method. So far, I can make the NUC do only 2 things:

  • remove the jumper and have the NUC tell me I should replace the jumper. Doesn't matter whether I press 1 or 2
  • put the jumper back and have the NUC tell me there's no bootable media, even though there is.

All other options lead to a black screen. By now I'm VERY frustrated and just about ready to throw the NUC against the wall (which would be unreasonable towards the wall, as it didn't do anything wrong) - please let me know what I could still do to resolve this issue!

Looking to buy a D54250WYK but worried about the fan noise.

Hey all.

So I narrowed my search down to two compact PC's.  The Brix i3 4010 or the NUC i5 D54250WYK.  I am 90% sold on the NUC but I have read a number of posts about problems with the noise of the fan.  The reason I am considering dumping my base unit is for space and also for silence.  I don't mind a bit of noise when gaming but when idle a compact PC should be almost silent.  So I am having my doubts about the i5 NUC.

Does anyone know if this has been addressed in BIOS update or manufacturing tweak?

Thanks for looking

I got my D54250WYK today.

I installed a msata SSD 60 gb (Kingston)

I installed 1 memory bank 8 gb DDR3L (Kingston) in the lowest memory bracket

Then i closed the case with screws and connected it with my Panasonic TX-P50VT20EA with a mini HDMI -> HDMI cable.

But when i put the AV of my tv to the corresponding HDMI input the screen stays blank when i turn on the NUC.

The blue light of the NUC goes on and stays on.

Doe anyone have an idea what is going wrong?

Is the NUC broken, is it something else (my HDMI input works with all other HDMI devices)

Intel NUC on12 volts using DC-to-DC converter for 19 volts?

$

I have an application that is very similar to an automotive installation. I need to be able to run the Intel NUC D54250WYB off of a12 volt power source with a separate ignition wire as input reference.  I found a DC USB 200 which is capable of converting 12 volts into the required 19 volts for the NUC given the right jumper settings and the DC USB 200 accommodates the ignition wire as an input reference.  However, I'm having a little trouble figuring out where on the D54250WYB motherboard to plug in the DC USB 200 so that the power on and the time delayed power off feature will work.

I have been reading the NUC technical manual for D54250WYB and it would appear that the Front Panel Header pins 6 or 8 (or both) may be where the DC USB 200 is supposed to interface with the D54250WYB but I'm not sure.   I've ordered the BOX D54250WYK1 but it will be several weeks before it comes in and I'm not even sure that pins 6 / 8 are even available.

Intel NUC Front Panel Header.gif

The technical reference for the DC USB 200 states "J8 Soft ON/OFF control for motherboard. Connect this to motherboard ON/OFF pins if you want the motherboard to be controlled by the unit."

DCDC-USB200 Layout.gif

I have only a little experience with older motherboards and I don't want to damage my new D54250WYB so I'm hoping someone here on the forum can help me confirm the proper connection point(s) on the board.

The technical reference for the DC USB 200 is attached in case that might be helpful.

Thank you for your time.
