NUC HTPC Sound issues

$

Hello everyone,

Really hoping you can help.  I have recently purchased an Intel NUC system (i3, dual HDMI) and while I love the form factor and design I am having issues using this as a HTPC.  The system sets up flawlessly and I can use it to view and listen to whatever in a browser or via XBMC for streaming stuff from my NAS.  However, when I turn off all my components and come back to the system later there are no Audio devices detected.  The speaker in the task tray will show a red X and when I try to auto detect issues it doesn't find any audio devices.  The only resolution is to reboot the system.  I am running Windows 8 Pro and have tried both HDMI ports on the back.  Again, this only occurs when I turn off my other components and come back later to use the system.

My setup is the Intel NUC is connected to an HDMI port on the back of my Yamaha receiver.  My Yamaha receiver is then hooked up to my Samsung Plasma television.  It seems when the HDMI signal from the NUC to the receiver is lost, the audio device issues occurs when the receiver starts back up.  This isn't an issue with the receiver as I have tried the other 4 HDMI ports and all other devices work, and when I try the NUC on those the same issue occurs when I come back.  I am also positive of this as I have a Windows Home Server hooked up to the same setup via HDMI and the issue doesn't occur.  The Windows Home Server is 2011 and is running an i3 as well.

I looked through the BIOS on the NUC and couldn't find anything that would SEEM to cause this issue.  I am running the latest video HD4000 driver found on the intel NUC downloads site.

I am really at a loss, and unfortunately this is very frustrating.  Now, Windows 8 does reboot quickly, but I shouldn't have to do this each and every time I use the system.  I really hope you guys an help, otherwise I'll need to offload this great little device and try something else.

Regards,

D54250WYK crashes when VP (iScan Duo) is switched off

I have a D54250WYK which is connected to an iScan Duo (video processor and HDMI switch). The iScan Duo is then connected to my plasma TV and front projector.

My problem is that when I switch off the iScan Duo, the NUC crashes/freezes. I can no longer connect to it via for example XBMC and Plex remote. If I switch the iScan Duo back on, there is no signal from the NUC. The NUC is still turned on (power LED is lit).

I am then forced to do a hard power off by pressing the power button for 4 secs.

I've tried several things:

- Turning the plasma TV off does NOT affect the NUC (as long as the iScan Duo is still on)

- Putting a HDMI switch (Oppo HM31) between the NUC and iScan Duo does not have an effect (NUC still crashes when iScan Duo is switched off). There is a LED on the HDMI switch that lights up when there is a signal from the source. Even when the NUC had freezed/crashed, the HDMI switch indicated that there was coming a signal (albeit a blank signal) from the NUC).

The D54250WYK is on firmware 25 and all drivers are the most recent versions.

All my other equipment (Blu-ray player, cable set-top box, Roku 3, PS3) works fine with the iScan Duo.

I've considered putting a HDMI Detective Plus between the NUC and the iScan Duo, but I don't have one and I don't like having to spend an extra $100 for a shot at getting the setup working, that I'm not remotely sure will even help.

Any and all suggestions are welcome.

NUC stuck on Welcome Screen

DC32171YE

After multiple restarts and everything working fine, upon standard daily reboot, the system is locked in the startup screen with no keyboard or mouse. Just locked up.

I had more of these boxes around, so I swapped components and had the same.

I tried switching the ram -- thinking it could be a bad module -- same result.

Not really sure what happened. Nothing new was added. I have a bunch of these boxes and this was the first time something like this happened.

Ideas?

DN2820FYKH Win7 Youtube 1080p framerate problem (Flash)

Hi,

I recently installed Windows 7 SP1 on my DN2820FYKH and have all the necessary drivers and I am experiencing issues with Youtube playback in 1080p with either Google Chrome or Internet Explorer 11. I have tried updating flash (Google Chrome has it built in) and updating Flash on the NUC for IE 11.

It just seems like the NUC struggles with 1080p content in both of these browsers, the CPU gets pretty high. I have tested playback of 1080p content through the VLC media player and it works great.

I am wondering, has anyone else experienced this issue? Any fixes?

DN2820FYK DOA or RAM problem?

Dear all,

I've just bought a NUC. I like the design and the construction but... I can't boot the device.

I powered it but I don't receive any signal on the TV/Monitor (tested with Samsung UE40ES6100, Samsung UE32F5500 and Samsung P2770HD).

I also tried to connect via DVI (using an adapter)...no video output.

I must tell you that the fan is running, the LED is always ON (no blinking code). I also tried with/without a HDD. I got the same result.

I have this RAM: ADATA 4GB DDR3 1600MHz CL11 Premier [ AD3S1600W4G11-B ] 1.5V and i don't know if 0.15V can make the difference. I must admit that I didn't know that DDR3 is available on 1.5V and also on 1.35V.

If is a RAM problem, why I don't receive an "led blinking error"?

I ordered yesterday Crucial 4GB DDR3 1600MHz CL11 1.35V. Do you think that this can solve the problem?

Thank you for support!

BETA Display Driver (10.18.10.3540) Appears to Cause Reboots w/Remote Desktop

I have configured a new NUC and have noticed a problem that I wanted to report and see if anyone else has encountered.

The problem was that I observed frequest spontaneous reboots of the NUC when connected to it via Remote Desktop. I couldn't stay connected for more than about 10 minutes maximum before  the NUC would reboot. Looking in the event log I would observe the following errors each time:

The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck.  The bugcheck was: 0x0000003b (0x00000000c0000094, 0xfffff800ca81dcfa, 0xffffd000407b1130, 0x0000000000000000). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 042014-6421-01.

I ran a series of tests including comprehensive memory tests and these all came back fine.

Since I was running a BETA Intel Display driver (10.18.10.3540) I thought that I would go back to the latest released version (10.18.10.3496) and this seems to have resolved the issue. I've run several hours now via remote desktop with no crashes.

I was just curious to see if anyone reported a similiar experience.

System Configuration:

Intel NUC D54250WYB with the new chassis that accomodates the laptop HD
BIOS 0025
16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3L DRAM
256GB Crucial M500 mSATA SSD
1TB Seagate 9.5mm 7200RPM HD
Intel 7260 AC WiFi
Windows 8.1 Pro Update 1 with all the latest Windows updates installed + Windows Media Center

Only application installed so far are:

Symantec System Recovery Desktop Edition 2013 w/SP2
VMware Workstation 10.0.2

Again, dropping back to the latest released video driver (10.18.10.3496) resolved the issue. I had initially installed the BETA because it said that it resolved an issue that it sounds like I may encounter when I connect to an AV system.

Internal USB on DC3217BY ?

Hi,

I bought a 3217BY recently and am super happy with it. When assembling the system I happened to see 2 internal headers that looked suspiciously like USB mount headers. The specs and articles online give me conflicting data on this - most claim this model doesn't have internal headers at all, while others say it depends on the system board number.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks!

Hi I just bought a brand new DN2820 this week.

I plugged it to a 1920x1080 screen via HDMI to HDMI (lets call it setup 1)

I downloaded the latest BIOS : 0.28

Upgraded the bios

Followed instructions to installed ubuntu

I installed ubuntu, it worked fine

Today plugged the Nuc on another screen that is 1920x1200 via HDMI to DVI (lets call it setup 2)

it worked I could boot to ubuntu and use it.

then I made a reboot "sudo reboot"

I got the message : "signal error" on my screen

I don t see the NUC startup screen at all.

I  plugged back the NUC on setup 1 : I have a black screen and still I don't see the "NUC" startup anymore.

What do you suggest ? I read the video support and could not find a solution.

PXE Boot

I'm testing an Intel NUC i5.

It sends a DHCP request containing an identifier which is not the MAC address.

Is there a way to configure it so that it sends the MAC address as part of the identifier?

Thanks.

NUC Haswell reboots after shutdown

If I chose shut-down it turns off but starts again. How so fix? Ubuntu 13.10. NUC Haswell BIOS version: 0022 (same with 0018).

I just found this: Re: D54250WYK Shutdown Reboots

but the asker didn't reply. What should I try? (except I will not install windows because I don't have it because it's a proprietary bad anyway OS).

54250 w/7260ac fails to wake from suspend with bluetooth keyboard/mouse

Has anyone successfully resumed from suspend over Bluetooth?  I already went through the pain of the "Error 43" issue (for me it was resolved with the newest driver and a hard reset - remove power).

Windows 8.1pro64

Latest NUC BIOS and WLAN+Bluetooth drivers installed.

Bluetooth seems fine in operational mode, but is unable to resume from suspend (USB devices work fine), the box in the power options of the Bluetooth driver "Allow this device to wake the computer" is greyed out and unselected (the mouse and keyboard drivers themselves allow modification of that option and it is enabled).

DN2820FYKH win 8.1 cannot find my intel 530 SSD. Shows in Bios

Hello,

Ive had a frustrating afternoon trying to install win 8.1 on my newly arrived DN2820FYKH.

I have installed ssdsc2bw180a401 wich is the Intel 530 series 180 gb SSD, written compatible with all NUC systems.

My first problem was updating the BIOS, with the error message cannot find product ID. Updating manually via usb worked fine after removing the jumper.

The real problem came when installing 8.1 from usb, as the OS cannot find any drives. After googling about this, all i can find is people missing the SSD from the SATA menu in BIOS. But mine actually shows. I have followed the BIOS settings Intel NUC — Operating system installation

Are there any tips here? and where is the error probably located? After hours of troubleshooting I have completly given up

mPCIe on NUC D34010WYB

The mPCIe power-on, reset logic is not up to spec. The PCIE RSET is 185 MS before 3.3v is available. This reset should be after and not before power.

This is preventing from mPCIe cards from functioning correctly when power is first applied. the system function after reboot.

Intel should make a change to power on first, than reset.

BIOS version 0025 3/3/2014

i have attached the actual power on scope sequence showing the power comes on 185ms after the reset.

Please advise.

D34010WYK USB host controller

Hi all,

I see that the NUC has 3 internal USB hubs:

Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub

However, it seems no matter which port I use for plugging an USB2 device (a TV tuner), it gets plugged in bus 002.

Bus 002 Device 004: ID 2013:024f PCTV Systems nanoStick T2 290e

If I plug in an USB 3.0 device in the same physical port, it will be connected to bus 003.

Bus 003 Device 002: ID 174c:5106 ASMedia Technology Inc. Transcend StoreJet 25M3

Before I start to fiddle with the NUC, I'd like to ask if the internal USB header is connected to the same bus as the ports in front/rear? In other words, will all USB 2.0 devices always share the same BUS on the NUC?

DN2820FYKH Availability

Is it me or is the DN2820FYKH no longer available already?  I ordered one two weeks ago and its been listed as 'Your order has been placed with one of our suppliers who will ship it directly to you', since I ordered it, and now it's not even available to order from that vendor at all.  Every other site I go to that sells it (with the exception a of a few sites that are marking it up to ridiculous prices) are out of stock, and a few even list it as discontinued.  Amazon has it listed as ships in '1 to 2 months'.

And I also see that the CPU in these is already being discontinued: http://qdms.intel.com/dm/d.aspx/F2EB08EF-03D4-49EB-8B0E-DE91A9D536E3/PCN112862-00.pdf

DN2820FYKH - Please try this

Hi guys,

I'm having continued issues with the fan on my NUC

Can some people out there please try the following, I want to find out if my NUC is funny or if there is a problem which affects all 2820 NUCs

Goto BIOS

Goto cooling, change upper and lower fan speeds

Save and reboot

Reenter BIOS:

Is the fan speed and temperature being displayed?

On mine they aren't

After performing this procedure, the only way I have found to restore those displays is to load BIOS defaults...

D54250WYK, bios, and F2, again

The bios in my D54250WYK is version 0025.  I am using the ASUS MB168B+ monitor.

The only connection to this monitor is USB 3.0 which makes it ideal for the NUC.

The monitor works correctly; however, I cannot enter the BIOS with F2.

I realize that F2 is an old problem, but I thought it might be helpful to report

a non-HDMI case.

NUC D54250WYKH minor video artifacts/corruption on screen at BIOS

I'm at lost here. Installed all the components and installed Windows 8.1 perfectly without issue. Went out for a coffee break and comes back with a NUC on POST screen and a missing SATA hard disk connection and screen showing video artifacts/corruption.

Never seen this before and thought it was perhaps the motherboard overheated. Power off for a while and waited. Then restart the NUC and able to POST to BIOS. Saw CPU core temperature hovering around 48-50 degree Celsius. Thought it was too hot and then bump up the fan speed from 40% to 70% min.

SATA connection recognized and Win 8 rebooted although there's still some minor video artifacts/corruption from time to time? I checked my cable, it is mini HDMI v1.4 certified. I don't think is cable issue cos previously before I start encountering the screen flickering, it was working perfectly fine.

Is this a case of motherboard overheat? Couldn't be right? I didn't run anything on it. Just Windows and I left on the table.

Could someone please advise me whether this is a normal issue with NUC?
