Intel has released a firmware update for the TB3 controller. The download page lacks the release notes/changelog. The PDF on the page shows the update for FW Ver 18....

What is new in FW 25?

Can Intel please include a changelog+releasenotes with every driver/firmware/bios update?

dual monitor setup blinking/flickering

$

I went dual monitor setup with my NUC7i7BNH (32gb Samsung ram and 960 M.2 NVME SSD).

And from time to time I'm getting a 1-2 seconds of black screen ONLY on the LG 27UD88-W monitor connected to the nuc with the provided by LG USB-C cable.

The other monitor Eizo Fs2332 connected through HDMI works OK and does not suffer any problems at all, even at the time when LG starts blinking.

The LG I'm using with my desktop computer on 4k resolution via Display Port... no problems at all, hard gaming, movies, streams...rock solid.

I did research on internet and here in the forum, the flickering/blinking seems to be common problem with dual/triple monitor setups or if USB-C connection or USB-C to HDMI/DP adapter is used.

I also tested many configurations. Windows 10 fresh install, windows 10 fully upgraded, old drivers, new drivers, old bios, new bios...the problem is there, it does not show up frequently and I have no idea what is triggering it, but it appears from time to time and really annoys me.

I found out (during my research on the issue) that very different setups having this issue, dell monitors, HP monitors, asus monitors...mine is LG, experts advising cables changing, adapters changing, but the only common thing always is the intel hardware.

At the moment I'm with all drivers updated, windows fully updated, latest bios... and the problem is here.

So my question, Intel, are you going to fix this issue, because we are suffering from this, we paying good amount of money for these NUCs and want them working as expected. And you seems to be ignoring the problem (based on my research) for years. If there is something you can't fix, or some configurations not working as expected, state it so we can consider it when we are choosing our computers.

Thank You.

NUC7I5BNH - HDMI 2.0 Issues

$

Hi All,

I am experiencing flickering when trying to set my display to 3440x1440.
In summary, I believe it is a HDCP issue or some statically configured expectation within the driver of how a HDMI 2.0 port should behave when communicating with it.
Below are the troubleshooting steps I have performed along with the hardware specs.

Intel NUC Hardware
Model: NUC7I5BNH
OS: Win 10 Home x64
Memory: Single Kingston ValueRAM (Part Number: KVR21S15S8/4, 4GB Module, DDR4 2133MHz, Non-ECC, CL15, 1.2V, Unbuffered, SODIMM)
HDD: WD M.2 Blue 250GB (WDS250G1B0B, 250GB, SATA III, 6Gbs, M.2 2280)
Firmware and Drivers: The latest drivers and BIOS Update listed in the 'Drivers and Downloads' page for this product, have been installed for each component in the NUC, up to the date of this post (including the HDMI 2.0 Firmware Update).

TV's:
Sony KDL-65X95000B (4K 60Hz TV, 4:2:0 8-bit, Not HDR compatible)
Sony KDL-46Z4500 (1080p 50Hz)

HDMI Cables:
Hi-Speed cables 2K/4K V2.0 from EzyHD - https://www.ezyhd.com.au/
XBox One S provided HDMI cable

Thunderbolt to HDMI Adapter:
Moshi USB-C to HDMI Adapter - https://www.moshi.com/usb-c-to-hdmi-adapter
NOTE: I understand the compatibility only states MAC products, but it works, and exhibits the same behaviour as the HDMI port, however I'm not really concerned with this (it's HDMI that concerns me)

Desktop PC:
OS: Win 10 Pro x64
Graphics Card: NVidia GTX 1080 TI

Monitor: Acer X34 Predator (DisplayPort 1.2a, HDMI 1.4)

Troubleshooting:
Sony KDL-65X95000B
1) My desktop PC has NO issues displaying the TV at 3440x1440 resolution - No flickering
2) My XBox One S has NO issues detecting the TV as 4K capable, and has no issues displaying the TV at 3440x1440 resolution
3) My FetchTV box has NO issues detecting the TV as 4K capable, and has no issues displaying the TV at 3440x1440 resolution
4) My Surface Pro 2 has NO issues displaying the TV at 3440x1440 resolution - No flickering
5) The NUC shows that the recommended display settings for the TV is 1920x1080 (even though it is a 4K TV). I have no flickering at this resolution.
6) As soon as I  set the Display settings to 3440x1440, I get the message saying that this is not the recommended display settings for this device, and I begin to get flickering. It is stable at 1920x1080.
7) I have also tried various refresh rates, 30Hz, 59Hz, 60Hz etc....but still get flickering.
8) Various power cycle methods on the TV and NUC including - Rebooting, Sleep, Shutdown, Removing power sources, changing inputs, powering up the devices in specific sequences etc..., sometimes provide stability at the 3440x1440 resolution (I have more stability using the Thunderbolt to HDMI Adapter), however even when its stable, i can verify its still not working poperly when trying to watch 'Foxtel Go', where I get no picture (see further down regarding Foxtel Go)
9) All HDMI ports on the TV have been tried
10) CEC has been tried ON and OFF on the TV
11) All display and sound modes have been tried on the TV
12) I have tried the TV's supplied HDMI splitter which produces the same reults
13) When using other HDMI inputs that aren't HDMI input number 1, it sometimes switches the TV's inputs to HDMI 1 (may have been more prominent before I disabled CEC)

Foxtel Go
1) I cannot watch any channels in Foxtel Go when using it through the Sony KDL-65X95000B using HDMI at 1920x1080 resolution (Thunderbolt to HDMI Adapter doesn't work either, however this is expected behaviour so it's not a consideration)
2) I have tried all of Foxtel Go's troubleshooting steps for this particular issue, however I have verified it is not an application issue - see the next 2 points
3) When I plug the NUC in to my Desktop PC monitor, Foxtel Go works
4) When I cast my desktop on the NUC to a chromecast, which is also connected to my Sony KDL-65X95000B TV, I cannot watch any channels. However, as soon as I unplug the HDMI connection from my NUC to the TV, and still casting to the chromecast, I can watch channels
5) Its clear that there is an issue with the HDMI 2.0 here

Sony KDL-46Z4500
1) When using HDMI, I just get a black screen - doesn't work at all at 1920x1080
2) When using the Thunderbolt to HDMI Adapter, it works at 1920x1080 (Foxtel Go doesn't work as expected as we are using the Thunderbolt to HDMI Adapter).

NUC7i5BNH does not find Linux bootloader

The primary installation on my NUC7i5BNH is Windows 10. After successfully installing Linux Mint 18.1 64 bit for dual booting on a second partition of the primary SSD, on rebooting I observed that the Windows bootloader was missing from the UEFI boot order in the bios. Then after disabling UEFI boot and unsuccessfully trying to boot into either operating system with Legacy boot, I observed that neither the Windows nor Linux bootloader was in the UEFI boot order in the bios. On rebooting again, the Windows bootloader appeared as the first option in the UEFI boot order in the bios, but no Linux bootloader was present.

Whatever I try I am unable to tweak the NUC Visual Bios to detect the Linux installation. Ideally I would like to have both the Windows and Linux options available under the UEFI boot order so I can choose which operating system to start up.

I see that this is not unique to the NUC7i5BNH. It seems that the Linux bootloader may need to be manually moved and renamed to what the NUC expects. As I cannot even get into the Linux system, this may need to be done from within Windows 10.

Any advice on how to get both Windows and Linux bootloaders into the UEFI boot order would be much appreciated.

Netflix audio problems

Hello,

I recently got myself a 7i3BNH and while it works fine the Netflix app does not. Netflix support pages suggest audio problems even though there is no specific fix for error U7361-1253-C00D6D60 which is the one I'm getting. After trying all their suggested fixes without success I thought I'd ask here if anyone has had a similar issue with their NUCs. What makes this error especially annoying is that a title will start to play and then after 5 to 15 mins fail.

Using the browser player works fine but then I loose 5.1 audio which is why I'm using the app in the first place.

I'm running W10 pro 64 on the machine. All drivers are up to date as of 170706 and the app has been reinstalled numerous times.

edit: I found this thread, Netflix, D34010WYK and 5.1 audio , but I want pass-through audio and considering that thread it three years old I kinda though the issue would be gone by now.

Edit 2: I get the same error with 2.0 audio but, and this makes me think it has more to do with Netflix than drivers, their own content seems to work fine. Total recall borks after a few minutes but okja ran fine for 1,5h until I turned it off.

Thanks!

Is there a recommended site that I could go to get an idea about my speed on my NUC?

Hello all,

My current setup is driving me nuts!  It's a i5 with 16GB of memory and running on a M.2 card.  Writing this I have one browser tab and I guess noting in the background.  It's a new install of UbuntuStudio.  You should see this thing type.  I hit the key and about 2 or 3 seconds the letter pops ups!  Now if I wanted to find out my internet I could easily go and find that out.  I don't have to install anything, make sure my parameters are set correct or learn this program.  I just click, click and click and I have a clue of my internet speed.  Now is there something similar to check my computer speed?  Tell the truth, my Chromebook with 2GB of memory is faster than this thing!

NUC7i5BNH with latest bios 0046 running Windows 10 Professional fully patched with Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver device in either of the front USB ports. Consumer IR Device enabled in the bios, also wake on IR checked for both S3 and S4/S5 states in the bios:

1. Power toggle button on Harmony 200 remote puts NUC to sleep.

2. Hitting power toggle button again repeatedly shortly after putting the NUC to sleep wakes the NUC again.

3. Waiting any length of time after putting the NUC to sleep then pressing the power toggle button repeatedly fails to wake the NUC again.

Mouse or keyboard can always wake the NUC from sleep after any length of time.

The same USB eHome Infrared Transceiver device  and harmony 200 combination is used successfully to sleep and wake both a NUC D54250WYK and NUC NUC6I5SYH.

NUC6i7KYK - screen flickering issue.

Hello,

My configuration is:

NUC6i7KYK connected to LG UHD 4K 55UH605V via HDMI cable, screen resolution is set to 3840 x 2160 @ 60Hz

Latest BIOS 00.48

Latest Display Driver 21.20.16.4678

HDMI 2.0 Firmware 0x20

I'm using Intel Driver Update Utility and all drivers are up to date.

I need to play a bit to make my screen stop flickering, normally when I boot the NUC my screen is flickering with configuration 3840 x 2160 @ 60Hz, so to solve the issue I need to go to both Intel Graphics Settings and Windows Display Adapter Properties and do one of the 2 below scenarios:

1. Go to Intel Graphics Settings, switch to 30Hz and then go to Windows Display Adapter Properties and switch back to 60Hz.

2. Opposite to above, go to Windows Display Adapter Properties, switch to 30Hz then go to Intel Graphics Settings and switch back to 60Hz.

Switching back and forth in either Windows Display Adapter Properties orIntel Graphics Settings doesn't help. Strange, isn't it?

After the reboot issue is re-occurring.

Issue: Flickering - YouTube

I tested 3 different HDMI cables, I have now quite a collection at home, all cables are High Speed with Ethernet.

As I can see in other threads, this issue is still not fixed after almost a year and occurs in combination NUC HDMI -> 4K UHD TV.

I'm not interested of using DP port with adapter.

DisplayPort Audio Issue on NUC7i5BNH

I've got a Dell P2415Q connected to an NUC7i5BNH via DisplayPort.

The speakers is then connected to the 3.5mm jack on the back of the monitor.

Everything is fine if I set the resolution to 4k@30hz or anything lower than this.

But the first bits of any audio is almost always dropped when the display resolution is set to the maximum 4k@60hz.

This is not much a problem if I'm watching a film or something but it's really irritating when half of a notification sound is chopped off.

If I connect the 3.5mm jack to the Realtek sound card on the front of the NUC there is no audio drop instead I get the electrical noise problem described by other people.

NUC7I3BNK - Duel Display Woes

Hi All,

I bought two NUC7I3BNK as we've used the older NUC's without any issues and we love the form factor.

The problem I am experiencing is similar to other issues I've read on the forum but all of the suggested fixes have not worked for us.

I want to connect 2 x 1920 x 1080 displays to the NUC's. We have done this successfully on the previous NUC's with no problems using Adapter to VGA.

Configuration is as follows:

1 x display connected via HDMI -> VGA adapter (Amazon.com: StarTech.com HDMI to VGA Adapter – 1080p – 1920 x 1200 – Black – HDMI Converter – VGA to HDMI Monitor Adapte… )

1 x display connected via DisplayPort 1.2 -> VGA adapter (Amazon.com: StarTech.com USB-C to VGA Adapter – Thunderbolt 3 Compatible – USB C Adapter – USB Type C to VGA Dongle Conv… )

If I have only the HDMI port in use then there is no problem, as soon as I plug in the DisplayPort, both screens start flickering on and off not staying on longer than 2 seconds.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong here? I know there are issues with 3 x 4K screens but this is standard 2 x 1920x1080 screens for office work.

Hardware spec is as follows:

1 x NUC7I3BNK.

1 x AD-SSDM2SU8001-128GB - ADATA SSD SU800 M.2 PCIE 2280 128GB 80MM 3D NAND

1 x AD-DDR4S-2133-4GB - Adata 4GB DDR4 2133 SO-DIMM Single Tray

1 x HDMI -> VGA adapter (Amazon.com: StarTech.com HDMI to VGA Adapter – 1080p – 1920 x 1200 – Black – HDMI Converter – VGA to HDMI Monitor Adapte… )

1 x DisplayPort 1.2 -> VGA adapter (Amazon.com: StarTech.com USB-C to VGA Adapter – Thunderbolt 3 Compatible – USB C Adapter – USB Type C to VGA Dongle Conv… )

NUC7i7bnh hibernation not working: it goes to sleep instead...

Hello guys.

I've got a NUC7i7BNH running windows 10 pro (with all the updates and drivers installed - btw, the drivers installed were downloaded from intel nuc's support page). I've updated the power settings so that:

  1. I can hibernate it
  2. I can hibernate it by hitting the shutdown button.

Now, my problem is that sometimes, when I try to hibernate it, it will simply go to sleep instead. I've noticed some entries on the event viewer that seem to point this. FOr instance, here's one:

The system is entering sleep.

Sleep Reason: Button or Lid

Now, does someone know why this would happen? How can I fix this?

I mean, this is my first NUC but hibernation is  something I've been using for years without any problems...I'm guessing that this is just another negative point to add to the NUC's list (another thing to add to the misterious BSOD that happen from time to time and nobody knows why...)

Thanks.

PTT on Linux

So I am trying to encrypt my file system, ideally by LUKS, and one way to do this is using the TPM chip, but my NUC does not have one. I am looking to use PTT to store the key, but I am unsure of how to go about this. I have already gone into the BIOS to enable PTT, but I am kind of lost on how to continue. If anyone knows, any help would be greatly appreciated.
