NUC7i7BNH - Simultaneous transcoding and more

$

Hi, I'm going back here now to get exact performance information from this high-performance machine.

I already own the product but a customer wants to purchase ten units of this model to use them in a kind of personal homecine and before he buys, fundamental to know, directly from Intel, about the issues below, for which I already thank you already.

The client has multimedia collections of movies, serials and concerts and intends to use Emby Server, to share with clients outside the network, that is, remotely, and for that, there are doubts:

1. What is the maximum number of clients that can simultaneously access each NUC unit at the same time. Explaining in more detail, imagine that several, perhaps two hundred clients access the collections at the same time, to watch the multimedia content. Is there a maximum limit for the NUC to support such access?

2. It is common for Emby Server to process video transcoding, according to the device of the external client that is accessing the collections. As an example, a H265 8bit movie, which is a heavy file, depending on the customer's equipment, Emby Serve transcodes so there are no crashes and customers can all watch movies without disturbances.

In these transcodes, does the NUC support processing which client boundary is connected smultaneously, ie at the same time?

The machine I'm suggesting to him is the same machine I passed on to another customer;

Intel NUC7i7BNH, 32GB RAM, SSD M.2 500GB

Thank you very much for the answers, I can not take the risk of passing on to the client something that does not fully comply with it.

Greetings from Brazil

How do I configure vGPU for Windows10 VM on ESXi6.5 (NUC6i7KYK) so that I can connect monitor directly to HDMI port rather than remote desk top to access the Windows VM?  I already configured ESXi/PCI passthrough mode for Iris Pro Graphics 580 but still unable to perform vGPU, is there any additional firmware requires? I appreciate some direction to perform this initiative.  Thanks, Ram.

NUC6CAYH screen turns black for a second

Hi. I`m having issues with a recently buyed NUC6CAYH. The screen will randomly turn completely black for a second or two. (it happend once every 4 or 5 minutes or once every 4 to 5 seconds)

It has windows 10 Pro installed with latest bios (040) and drivers installed.

It is connected via VGA cable to a LCD display (resolution: 1440x900@60Hz).

The things i`ve tried so far:

  • lowering the display resolution to other than the native display stops the flickering or at least makes it less frequent.
  • I had keyboard, mouse and two printers connected to a back USB port through a 2.0 USB hub. removing the USB hub eliminate de flickering (or at least it has not flicker once in about an hour) [Hub works flawlessly in other PCs]
  • Connecting mouse keyboard and two USB hdds makes the flickering happen at least once every 30 minutes.

Thanks in advance and excuse my english.

NUC7I5BNH Fan does not turn on after wake from Hibernation

Hi,

I have the latest Bios 0049 on my Nuc and Windows 10 as OS. Each time I put it into hibernation

and wake it up via Wake on LAN, the fan remains off. It stays that way when I do a soft restart, i.e.,

the BIOS setup shows 0 rpm. Only when I completely turn it off and on again, the fan

will becomes active again. This issues was supposedly fixed in BIOS 0048.

Is anyone here facing the same issue? Any kind of help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Jan

Intermittent HDMI audio and video drops using NUC7i7BNH

Hello,

I have recently bought an NUC7I7BNH, which I am using with Windows 10, and connected via HDMI to a Denon AVRX2300 receiver, and a 4K 60hz-capable Vizio TV.

I am using the Kodi media player, and have noticed frequent audio drops when bitstreaming (particularly high bitrate streams, it seems), and sometimes video drops (usually when outputting, say, 2160p@24hz + DTS-MA) . The audio drop-outs can occur as frequently as every 20 seconds or so. All the drivers, including the HDMI firmware are up-to-date.

Everything worked fine on my previous build with a NVidia GTX 950, so I'm sure the issue is related to the NUC, especially as I simply swapped the SSD from the old rig to the new NUC.

Another odd issue I've noticed is that while Kodi displays 1080p movies by selecting an output resolution of 1920x1080@24hz, as expected (debug log confirms this), the AVR actually receives an 'upscaled' 2160p@24hz video stream from the NUC. Very strange, and most undesirable. It might be that this 'upscaling' is also exacerbating the audio drop-out problem, as my suspicion is that the frequency of drop-outs correlates directly with the overall HDMI bitrate being outputted.

The drop outs make the system currently unusable as a media player. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

NUC6CAYS - Random boot freeze

Hi,

I'm experiencing boot Issue with the NUC6CAYS + Ubuntu Server 16.04.02 LTS (kernel 4.8), Ubuntu Server 17.04 (kernel 4.10) and even with the UEFI USB Installer.

  • BIOS Version 0038 and 0040 tested
  • HDMI 2.0 Firmware fix.
  • Default values in bios except: eMMC is disabled + supervisor password set ( I tried without a supervisor set too). Also tried the UEFI OS Selection to Linux, same issue
  • ADATA SP550 SSD is installed inside

Here is the story:

  • First I installed Ubuntu Server 16.04.02 LTS with HWE Stack (Kernel 4.8), everything was working fine BUT I noticed that sometimes, after a reboot, my NUC was stuck on a black screen right after the GRUB Menu.

  • I decided to give Kernel 4.10 a try so I installed Ubuntu Server 17.04 (kernel 4.10) and nothing else except updates. I did a small script to restart the computer every 30 seconds or so and again, randomly, the NUC was not rebooting. I see the GRUB Menu with Ubuntu selected and after the 2 seconds timeout, screen go black and nothing more happen.

  • After hours and hours of debugging and trying to find what the problem was, I decided to use a brand new SSD (same model) that I had on hand.
    • Disconnected the power of the NUC
    • Replaced my SSD
    • Connected my Ubuntu Server 17.04 USB installer made with Rufus
    • Connected power
    • Started NUC
    • Pressed F10 on boot, selected my USB and displayed the GNU GRUB Menu where I selected * Install Ubuntu Server and.....the same issue occurred,  black screen and nothing!!
    • I restarted the computer and tried it again... this time the Ubuntu Server installer started correctly.
    1. Boot
    2. Wait for GRUB Menu (eMMC is disabled and ssd brand new, so the USB boot automatically)
    3. Press Enter to start installation
    4. If the installer start, press CTRL+ALT+DELETE and do it again.
  • I did it again, and again, again, at least 30 times without any issue than, after many retries same problem, black screen and nothing!

It's totally Random and really seems to be a BIOS issue to me since this time. When the black screen happen, ctrl+alt+del do nothing. I have to long press the power button for about 5 seconds to power off the NUC.

I should have a brand new NUC6CAYH tomorrow to test if it's specific to my NUC or not, since I already have NIC issue with this one but I need it for development (NUC6CAYS - Ethernet Issue )

Tested with a brand new NUC6CAYH, a different 4GB Kingston memory module and a different brand SSD (PNY) - Same Issue

Procedure to reproduce the issue in this post: Re: NUC6CAYS - Random boot freeze and can be downloaded here: https://communities.intel.com/servlet/JiveServlet/download/485079-171358/RebootScript.md.zip

PTT on Linux

So I am trying to encrypt my file system, ideally by LUKS, and one way to do this is using the TPM chip, but my NUC does not have one. I am looking to use PTT to store the key, but I am unsure of how to go about this. I have already gone into the BIOS to enable PTT, but I am kind of lost on how to continue. If anyone knows, any help would be greatly appreciated.

INTEL NUCi7 3D MVC ISSUE

Coming from Intel NUC DN2820 I was able to play 3D MVC with Kodi with new Intel Media SDK, I just purchased Intel NUC NUC7i3BNK and 3D playback doesn't work.

On the Intel NUC DN2820, the resolution was set 1920X1080p 3D and everything works great

On the Intel NUC NUC7i3BNK either I set the 1920X1080p 3D or  3820X2160p 3D doesn't work

The Intel Media SDK was supposed to allow 3D MVC to work, I did some testing and found the HDMI 2.0 connection is the one causing the issue and any NUC with HDMI 2.0 doesn't work/

I have a 7i3BNH. All drivers appear to be current but there is no 7.1/5.1 output and I don't see any configuration for this in device manager. Under audio/video inputs and outputs my options are Maranzt -AVR(Intel(R) Diplay Audio, Microphone (Realtek High Definition Audio SST) and Stereo Mix (Realtek High Definition Audio SST.) I was previously using various Minix Android boxes and my Marantz receiver always detected Dolby Digital and DTS coding from them. Any help appreciated.

Intel NUC NUC5PPYH duplex printing problem

$

Hello,

I have an Intel NUC5PPYH and I cannot have a flawless duplex printing. I am currently running Win 10 Pro 64 bit built 1703. Whenever I try to print a 2-page document, created on MS Office 2010 Word, I end up with a sheet of paper where the front page print does not 100% overlap the print on the back page. Lets say that the front page has 32 lines of words typed and the back has also 32 lines of words typed. In an ideal situation, the front print (i.e the first 32 lines) should overlap the next 32 lines. In my case, printing of the front page starts lower than usual (4 lines lower to be precise) whereas the back page printing starts normally on the top of the page, thus I am having a sheet of paper where if you place it under any light, you could see that the 2 printings (front & back) do not overlap. Sorry for my english, this is the best way I can describe the problem, treat the document in question as an x-ray and place it under normal everyday lighting. Every paper has some degree of transparency.

I am using the default settings in MS Word, margins, spaces etc are used as is.

I was facing the same problem when running Win 10 Pro 64 bit built 1607. I updated to built 1703 hoping for a fix. My printer was an HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 4535 AiO, which had automatic 2-sided printing and was connected to my NUC through usb cable. I had to return it to the store. I have also used a Samsung Multifunction Printer Xpress M2885FW which also had automatic 2-sided printing, connect it through usb, the problem still persists.

Moved my NUC to a place where another HP printer which also had automatic 2-sided printing, unfortunately, problem persists.

I have also converted the aforementioned 2-sided file to a PDF, still facing duplex error.

I have also uninstalled Win 10 Pro and installed Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I didn't solved the problem.

While running built 1607 (Win 10 Pro 64 bit) I also used MS Office 2007 and 2016 Pro, faulty duplex printing continued. I am currently on built 1703 with MS Office 2016 Pro.

Purchased heavier paper (120gr instead of 80gr), thinking that it may be a roller issue (or whatever mechanism is used to grab the paper), didn't solved it either.

I have also installed Libre Office and used it for printing only documents that were created in MS Office and magically the problem was solved! Used Libre to open other files created under MS Office, and printing was fine.

Lastly I have also emailed the above document to a couple of friends that I knew they had printers with automatic 2-sided printing, asked them to not change any Office parameter and print it. 2-sided printing was fine.

Looking forward to a solution.

Thank you.

My NUC isn't waking up

Hello all,

After working on building up my NUC, thinking I'm going to have a sweet running computer for years and years, I'm wondering now if I'm still going to be using this computer!  This is currently working into being a pain.  The computer doesn't want to wake up after being idle for 10 minutes or more.  I have to hit the power button on monitor two or three times to wake the computer up!  It looks like something is starting to happen when I wake the computer up with mouse movement, but the process never finishes.  The closest I get is "Cable Disconnected".  This has nothing to do with the OS, (Win 10 Pro) as I was getting the same problem when using multiple Linux OSs too.  This has to do with BIOS or the hardware and firmware before the OS.

Any suggestions how to remedy this?

My computer is a NUC5i5RYH;

with

16 GB of Crucial Memory

HGST Travelstar 7K1000 2.5-Inch 1TB

K350 Logitech  Wireless Keyboard

I'm having issues installing windows 7 onto my NUC6I3SYK. In the thread with other people with the same problem, some people suggested running 0024 or 0028 of BIOS. Whenever I try to manually update from USB I get "This version is uncompatable" or something to that extent. Any ideas?

Need help with NUC7i3 Windows 7 installation

Hello all... I know that Windows 7 technically isn't supported on 7th gen processors, but i'd like to run it anyways.  Even though, it's not supported, I have to think the hardware is capable of running it, especially since Intel created the USB 2.0 installation fix.  I was able to install Windows 7 via USB using the fix.  It boots up, but when I try to install the graphics driver (HD 620) the system says it can't install it because it doesn't meet system requirements.  Can someone help me get around this?  It's preventing my graphics and ultimately sound from being installed correctly.

Thanks for your help.

Cannot install Windows 7 on NUC6CAYH

Hello:

I've been trying to install Windows 7 on the NUC6CAYH with no success. I followed the instructions given here:

Install Windows 7* on Computers with USB 3.0

The page lists this model NUC under "This article applies to" section, but it seems the USB 3.0 drivers provided do not enable the USB 3.0 ports - once it reaches Windows Setup the keyboard and mouse are not recognized. The installation media I created following the instructions did successfully install Windows 7 on the NUC5CPYH.

The one thing I did notice is on the support page for the NUC5CPYH (and the Skylake and Skull Canyon NUCs) have downloadable USB 3.0 drivers for Windows 7, whereas the NUC6CAYH does not. I'm not sure if the appropriate drivers have been released or if this process has been tested on the NUC6CAYH.

Has anyone had any luck or can provide any insight?

Thanks!

BIOS update for NUC7i5BNH causes fan speed settings to be ignored

I have a new NUC7i5BNH and I noticed that the fan ran at constant speed. I found the Cooling page in the BIOS and set it to Quiet - this allowed the fan to slow down and stop when the CPU was not loaded.

I then updated the BIOS - the previous one had a March date, the new one July. With the new BIOS, the fan runs at a constant 3700RPM no matter what I set for the fan mode. I see several other threads reporting the same problem (but was asked to start a new thread). Given that it worked before the BIOS update, it is evidently not a hardware problem and is instead a bug introduced into the BIOS. How can this be escalated to the proper team to fix it?

NUC7I7BNH Audio Issues: popping (3.5mm audio jack front panel)

I have received my NUC7I5BNH a about a month ago, and I'm noticing strange noises in my headphones plugged in the front audio jack when I start or restart audio after some pause. I use Sound Intone CX-05 Noise Isolating Headphones with an in-line remote and microphone. When I plug them in the NUC jack the Realtek manager pops up. I can hear a faint popping sound and sometimes lout sound distortion when the sound restarts after no audio was played for a while, which is very annoying. I have read this has maybe to do with some sort of a sleep mode of the audio module or with the audio jack when it is expecting a microphone maybe. It does not really matter if I use the headset or headphone setting in the Realtek manager - there is at best only a gradual difference. I also tried different headsets and headphones. There is a bigger qualitative difference, but the issue is in for me in every case present.

I found some articles on the net about the possible issue with the sleep/power saving mode of the audio module and literally tried every (reasonable) suggestion (e.g. Fix Audio Static Crackling Popping with Realtek Sound Card ) - but nothing worked. Please help, this is really frustrating.

NUC7i5BNH video choppy

I have a NUC7i5BNH connected to a Samsung ua55c6900 TV via the HDMI port. This is a older TV running 1920x1080p. The video playback is choppy and not smooth. This is for streaming from netflix or local stuff off the hard-drive. I've got all the latest drivers apart from the HDMI2.0 firmware update. I can't do this because I don't have any HDMI2.0 devices to plug in. My $50 raspberry pi has smooth playback and so does my laptop so the high powered NUC should be fine. Any help?
