huge vulnerability for ME Firmware: 10.0.45.1024 on NUC5

I'd need an information:

why NUC5i5RYH bios has  ME Firmware: 10.0.45.1024 and not , for example, at least , ME Firmware: 10.0.55.3000 like in pretty much "identical"  NUC5i5MYBE,which already has the fix with ME Firmware: 10.0.55.3000?

is ME Firmware: 10.0.45.1024 vulnerable to:

https://security-center.intel.com/advisory.aspx?intelid=INTEL-SA-00075&languageid=en-fr  ?

can you reassure me , about it?

and is intel going to fix this in a next bios delivery?

thanks

NUC7i3BNH and Samsung UE55KU6400 HDMI problems

Hi everyone,

I've recently purchased a NUC7i3BNH and after installing memory and SSD I tried to connect to my Samsung UHD TV model UE55KU6400 and only got a black screen, no intel logo, nothing.

Then I tried to plug to my older Phillips TV and worked fine, installed Windows 10 and then tried to hot swap the cable to back the samsung and voila! Glorious 3840 x 2160 working just fine.

However, if I change source or turn off the TV and try to get back to Windows 10, I get a weird pink screen for a second and then a "No source" message from my Samsung. If i try to reboot the NUC, only blank screen again. The only way to get the screen back to the Samsung, is by doing the hot swap trick with the older phillips.

I'm no expert but I've spent the weekend learning about HDMI handshake issues and have tried updating all the drivers, the DEVCON trick and nothing works apart from hot swap. As that is not a practical solution I would like to ask if anyone can help.

Thanks!

NUC5i7ryh and Intel Network Adapter

I installed the latest Gigabit Ethernet Network Connection Driver, dated 27-Oct-2017, located here:

Download Intel® Gigabit Ethernet Network Connection Driver for Windows 8.1*, for the Intel® NUC

And it appeared to install without any issues. However, I am concerned about it after looking at the driver Properties page from Network Adapters in Device Manager.  When I look at the network adapter’s Properties page and Driver tab, it shows “Digital Signer: Not digitally signed.” Then, in Driver Details, I can see four files listed, one of which is “C:\Windows\system32\e1d64x64.din”. It shows Unknown for Provider, File version, and Copyright.  These does not seem right to me.

I want to enable the Secure Boot functionality in NUC's BIOS. First, however, I believe that I need to get this issue fixed because, if I am not mistaken, Secure Boot will not work properly with an unsigned driver.  Any advice would be welcome. Thanks.

NUC6CAYH screen flickers /turns black

Hi!

I'm having some issues with my brand new NUC6CAYH: The screen will randomly turn completely black for a few seconds.

This happens almost every minute. The NUC is hooked up to a display via VGA (resolution: 1920x1080@60 Hz). I'm not experiencing the same issue when I'm using an HDMI display (different resolution and refresh rate).

I have Windows 10 installed with the latest updates. The BIOS version is AYAPLCEL.86A and I applied this HDMI firmware update: Download HDMI 2.0 Firmware Update Tool for Intel® NUC Kit NUC7i3BN, NUC7i5BN, NUC7i7BN, NUC6CAY .

I have also installed the latest graphics drivers (15.46.2.4729) but I got the same problems with the previous drivers.

Any workarounds? Thanks in advance!

SkullCanyon GPU Instability

Hello,

So I've been running my Skullcanyon as a linux server for almost a year, so far so good. However I moved to another server, and decided to use the skulcanyon as a living room PC. As a server previously, it was used for encoding movies and transcoder, which put the cpu at 100% all the time, however as a living room PC, I installed Steam and started playing some games and the NUC kept crashing (freezing or power off)
It went for days to figure out the problem, including for the fact that I'm using Patriot 2666mhz ram which is incompatible, so I went ahead and bought a Crucial 2133mhz ram. The NUC kept crashing, I reinstalled the OS and updated the bios, and it still crashes randomly on GPU load especially benchmarks. As a last resort, I thought that heat could be an issue and went undervolting the CPU and GPU, CPU was at -80mv, it ran cooler and stable on stress test but the GPU crashed immediately, and then I thought doing the opposite for the gpu would work, I started with small increments of increasing the GPU slice and unslice voltage from stock, it kept crashing till i reached +0.09v offset, no crash but artifact so I increased it to +0.1v and it has yet to crash.

So the TL;DR, GPU has been perfectly stable on tiny over volt, do I have a lemon? Is it safe to keep it at this current setting? At the time of the post I'm still running Heaven benchmark in loop for almost a day (~22hours) and it hasn't crashed yet.

Intel Skullcanyon EDRAM Frequency Indicator (XTU)

Hello,

I just got my Skullcanyon NUC, so far I love it, noticed this frequency indicator "EDRAM Frequency", I read that on some systems like the i7-5775C you can disable or overclock EDRAM, usually when you disable it, XTU indicates 0mhz as seen in screenshot. Thats what my NUC is reporting, is it disabled? There is no bios option for controlling edram either.

What I would like to know, does XTU support correctly reporting  6770hq/irispro580 systems?

Thank you!

NUC6i7KYK Bluetooth problems

Good day!

Six months ago I bought NUC6i7KYK and noticed the incorrect work of the bluetooth. At any time (this can be 10 minutes, half an hour, hour or any other), the sound may disappear or start popping, and after a few minutes it appears again. It is absolutely impossible to watch a movie normally or listen to music. During these six months I periodically checked the new drivers and installed them, but the problem was not solved. I had to disable the bluetooth in the BIOS and buy a Chinese usb-module for $4, which works perfectly. But it's not right! I always have a busy USB 3.0 port and a high-speed built-in bluetooth should work correctly, especially since this is a software problem.

I have Win10 1703 x64 and Apple AirPods. I would like to help the company's engineers solve this problem. Maybe you have instructions for this? For example, a debugging program that will write a log to determine the cause of the problem. Thank you for your attention and help!

NUC7i5BNK bricked?

Basic setup:

BOXNUC7I5BNK, 4GB Kingston Model KVR21S15S8/4, Samsung 960 500GB, Windows 10 x64 Pro.

Bought and installed back in August, has worked with some pretty common complaints--sometimes lose audio or display on wakeup, won't wake from BT keyboard, occasional crashes.

Had to walk over and reboot today to restore sound so started looking into drivers and everything's been updated since I bought so seemed worth a shot. Had a pretty common hassle--the installer for the new graphics driver wouldn't run "setup.exe", DSA crashed while trying to update itself and wouldn't restart and thus had to download manual drivers. Graphics, BT, HDMI and BIOS.

I start with the BIOs, agree to the license and reboot, and... no display. I wait a minute or two, do a hard reboot, and now it won't start. Just loops, 15 seconds blue, 3 seconds orange, flickers off and does it again. Never sends a display.

I expect I'll be on the phone about a warranty claim on Monday, but is there anything I can try in the meantime?

fan control NUC6i5 Ubuntu

hello,

I got Ubuntu 16.04 installed on my NUC6i5 and it works fine, only the fans are too loud and cannot be detetcted by Ubuntu Software for this seems to be an Intel problem.

Now, I got an dualboot system installed - Windows 10 / Ubuntu 16.04 and the curious thing is, that under Windows the fan control of Bios/UEFI works fine-silent after correcting UEFI fan-settings, (newest bios), but does not work under Ubuntu correctly: much too loud!

Also curious: Starting windows immediately after Ubuntu, the fan is yet silent, the CPU seems to be very cold!

Please, please, is there a possibility to repair this, eventually by a bios update?

The sound of the fan under Ubuntu is very disturbing!

And I'm using Ubuntu most of the time. The NUC is such a fine computer, he has to get a real chance also for Linux!

Also, if anybody has a solution via Ubuntu yet, please let me know!

Thank you for your efforts, I hope to hear from you!

NUC Skull Slow WiFi Download Speeds

The internet speeds to my house are 50 Mbps down/up. I'm getting only around 25-30 Mbps down to my NUC Skull. The upload speeds are in the high 40s as expected. (This is all via WiFi.)

Any ideas what would cause the slower download speeds?

I saw another thread with a similar issue. I've followed some trouble shooting steps advised there:

INTEL NUCi7 3D MVC ISSUE

$

Coming from Intel NUC DN2820 I was able to play 3D MVC with Kodi with new Intel Media SDK, I just purchased Intel NUC NUC7i3BNK and 3D playback doesn't work.

On the Intel NUC DN2820, the resolution was set 1920X1080p 3D and everything works great

On the Intel NUC NUC7i3BNK either I set the 1920X1080p 3D or  3820X2160p 3D doesn't work

The Intel Media SDK was supposed to allow 3D MVC to work, I did some testing and found the HDMI 2.0 connection is the one causing the issue and any NUC with HDMI 2.0 doesn't work/

Improved (quieter) cooling for NUC7i7BNH?

I have a NUC7i7BNH which is mostly running fine. Only problem is that it seems to be pretty noisy (fan) if CPU gets any load.

Does anyone have any suggestions for either an alternate case (more passive cooling, water cooled?) or a lid mod that adds a (filtered) additional fan (most of the ones I've found are for 6th not 7th gen NUCs) ... happy to do some 3D printing and assembly if anyone has one designed and ready to go (don't feel confident enough to design/create my own from scratch)

NUC 6i7KYB TPM

I'm trying to enable TPM (PTT or fTPM) on the NUC 6i7KYB. I am currently running BIOS 42 (KYSKLi70.086A.0042.2016.0929.1933) which is the newest I can find.  I have turned on PTT in the BIOS and am booting secure UEFI.  I don’t see any the PCRs and my kernel module is throwing an error on loading.  I think I have debugged the problem down to ACPI IO Resources.  The MSFT0101 memory region (as defined in APCI) is at 0xFED40000 – 0xFED4087F.  When the TPM driver (tpm_crb.ko) starts, it reads the command buffer size (0xF80) from the TPM2 command size register and tries to allocate space at starting at 0xFED40080.  This is larger than the size of MSFT0101 and the module loading fails.  So one value is wrong, either the size of MSFT0101 or the command/receive buffer size reported by the TPM2 (PTT) registers.  I have modified the driver to use a smaller buffer size (0x7F0) but that does not work so I think it must require the entire buffer space.

Disassembling the ACPI tables, I can see that the _CRS method returns 0x880 but I don't know enough about ACPI to understand why.  So, is there a newer BIOS I should be using?  I know Intel doesn't like to support Linux, but that is a requirement.  I know that there is active development on this module by several Intel developers and I don't think this is a Linux problem.  Any help would be appreciated.

Unrecoverable error in the TPM hardware

Hi,

each time the NUC (NUC7i5BNH) reboots, this entry (source: TPM, ID: 15) is found in the event log (OS Windows 10 Pro 64 bit):

EN

The device driver for the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) has encountered an unrecoverable error in the TPM hardware that prevents the use of TPM services (such as data encryption). Please contact the computer manufacturer for more help.

DE:

Is this a real hardware error in the NUC ?

Holger
