Hello

Nuc6cayh BIOS Version AYAPLCEL.86A.0041.2017.0825.1152

Ballistix Sport 8GB Kit (4GBx2) DDR3 1600

BLS2C4G3N169ES4CEU

Physical Memory

Total 8041 MB

Module Name Crucial BLS4G3N169ES4.16FE

Serial Number 521700E4h (3825211218)

Module Size 4 GB (2 ranks, 8 banks)

Module Type SO-DIMM

Memory Type DDR3 SDRAM

Memory Speed DDR3-1600 (800 MHz)

Module Voltage 1.35 V

The problem is that when turning on NUC two 4GB and it turns on,  displays a message that the memory density is not and that the memory is smaller than 4GB have 1GB or 2GB.

After accepting Y, the system starts normally and works without problems. There is no memory problem and is seen as 8GB. Work perfect

I use the latest bios from intel, it annoys me a lot every time I turn on my computer

Also does not work in this fast boot system.

One 4GB memory works fine and there is no message.

You need to improve bios

Misc. NUC7i5 issues (Ready Mode / Sleep, Wakeup / Display, Crashes, ...)

Hi

For about 1/2y I got my NUC7i5BNH which I didn't use much up to now but there are numerous problems and issues nevertheless which is veery annoying for a new device not that cheap!

To have it said right from the beginning - I tried everything: Misc. Win 10 versions and reinstalls (Now fresh install of Fall Creators Update), driver uninstall, reinstall, updates, Bios updates, Bios reset and settings, LAN / WLAN connection and adapter deactivation, different HDMI cables, Remote desktop, ...

BTW: Ram is 2x 8G Corsair value select with some nice black / yellow stickers on it if I remember right the look...

Intel Ready Mode: Had problems from the beginning like others - (Immediate) wakeup after entering Ready mode, not entering Ready mode or what I found out and it seems now that it just doesn't display it properly on the device (LED). Not sure if just the display is still off then or it's still in Ready mode. It does use less power indeed and when pressing the power button it does not shut down but reactivate / wake up totally - assumed display is waking up again (Possibilities: No signal at all, signal but black screen, Picture is green / purple as with RGB / YcPbr mismatch between GFX and screen).

What I found out (in the event log and on the device): From remote desktop it wakes up from ready mode or at least changes LED color when connecting or when pressing "standby" and then disconnecting (Disconnecting: wakeup reason "Unknown"). After manually entering ready mode from the device itself by pressing standby it wakes right back up again, normally after a few seconds, sometimes after a few minutes. Event log shows these entries right when entering ready mode this way or also under other circumstances - no idea if it matters and what it says (translated from DE to EN):

- The policy path of "{a1841308-3541-4fab-bc81-f71556f20b4a}" was reset by "{C: \ Program Files \ Intel \ Intel (R) Ready Mode Technology \ IRMTService.exe" (process ID: 3464) to "a1841308-3541-4fab-bc81-f71556f20b4a} ".

- From the process "C: \ Windows \ System32 \ dllhost.exe" (process id: 4104), the policy scheme of "{a1841308-3541-4fab-bc81-f71556f20b4a}" was reset to "{381b4222-f694-41f0-9685-ff5bb260df2e } "

- (a18... to a18..., a18 to 381 and vice versa)

Interestingly it seemed to work for a short while now after clean installing Fall creators update with all recent drivers. No idea what changed yesterday. What I tried was changing from WLAN to LAN and totally deactivate WLAN (power - does it even make a difference between WLAN off or WLAN adaptor deactivated?). I also installed Teamviewer yesterday. But after Ready mode didn't work properly anymore I uninstalled Teamviewer and changed and de-/re-activated LAN / WLAN back and forth and rebooted and so on but didn't really help... (BTW: The ready mode version on the NUC page isn't recent. does this make a difference?)

Display wakeup from ready mode / sleep as described above. Only shut down the device and power on again helps in that cases. Found out, this mostly only occurs when having been connected through Remote desktop earlier. Also when playing a sound from the NUC like when changing windows audio volume, at the beginning there is a noise, some kind of distortion. no issues afterwards with playing audio. Only the first time audio plays after everything was silent before. every time... (LCD, HDMI 2.0).

Rarely display goes black for a few seconds and comes back again then.

Random bluescreens since the beginning with different windows / driver versions as described above.

Didn't notice this for a few days now but right now it crashed again after beeing away for a few minutes!! VEEERY glad I saved this text before I went away...!!

Came back, moved mouse, display got signal, remained black, lost signal. After a while got signal again when windows was fresh booted... This may not happen!!!

- Event log (translated DE to EN): The computer was restarted after a fatal error. The error code was: 0x0000007e (0xffffffff80000003, 0xfffff80054820275, 0xfffffc8880a75d98, 0xfffffc8880a755e0). A full image was saved in: C: \ Windows \ MEMORY.DMP. Report ID: 1f8da98e-b63d-42d9-9860-c83df23160eb.
No idea what to do with those memory dumps. Luckily, bluescreens rarely occur during normal usage...

About the software installed: Primarilly IIS web server and hMailServer are running. But i guess this should not have any influence since I understand that ready mode is for having the PC running in a low power when not active using it but needing it remain on for servinc services - like in my case web and email...!?

P. S. It is possible to make the NUC totally quiet by using "Fanless" in BIOS which makes no sense but it is not possible to make it totally quiet otherwise during normal idle or ready mode because max fanless cpu temp. possible in bios is 48°C?!? This is ridiculous and makes no sense. Also, that for RAM max themp is on the other side 55°...!? I'm running it now at 25% fan up to 55° cpu I think having it around 50° this way in idle. In ready mode I saw a min. cpu temp of 45° or less.

P. P. S. What's interesting about the ready mode / standby / wake up problem: Power consumption isn't higher when it seems to "wake up" from ready mode (as said display is still off then). Power is the same if not even less as when the LED indicated ready mode...!

Thx & regards

I want to leave my NUC in the suspend state and reactivate it with an Infrared signal.

It's possible? How would I have to configure it?

Creators Update Fall 1709 + NUC7i7BNH = "display resolution not supported"

Hi,

I have been using my NUC7i7BNH for a while, running Win 10 Pro 1703 connected to reciver and TV with HDMI.

Yesterday I got a new harddrive (Samsung 960 EVO 256GB NVME) and did a clean install with a Win 10 Pro 1709 (Creators Update Fall) ISO.

After installation a few minutes went by, the screen flickers and then goes black. Try to restart but the TV just says “display resolution not supported”. Perform restore to an earlier system restore point (probably before the update/driver was installed). The display works again and everything is OK. But after a few minutes the same thing happens again. Unplug my Ethernet cable and do yet another restore. This time the machine is running considerably longer. Download the Intel drivers from my laptop and install them on the NUC from a USB-drive. When I get do the display driver (Intel® HD Graphics Driver for Windows® 10 for Intel® NUC Kit NUC7i3BN, NUC7i5BN, and NUC7i7BN Version: 15.46.05.4771 (Latest) Date: 9/11/2017 ) the same thing happens again – no display.

Then tries to connect the NUC to my PC monitor and it works perfectly. Do a few restarts, wait a while etc… Everything works. Then connect it to the TV again – no picture – “display resolution not supported”. (Note: I have tried to connect the NUC directly to the TV without passing the receiver, but it didn´t help).

Gave up and switched back to my old hard drive with 1703 and that of course worked. Is the Intel display driver not fully compatible with 1709 Creators update?

Remote Keyboard app problem after Windows 10 (or BIOS) update

I have a NUC 7I3BNH (Win 10) connected to my 4K TV as  media PC, and have successfully used the Intel Remote Keyboard application on an android tablet for over six months with no problems. Recently the PC updated Windows and the BIOS (BIOS Version 0054), and I can't use the 'mouse' or 'keyboard' to input the PIN.

After boot up, the mouse controls the cursor, and clicking on the first screen brings up the log in screen asking for the PIN.  The mouse and cursor is still working on this screen, but the PIN textbox will not accept any input. Clicking on the restart/power down icon in the lower right corner responds to mouse input. And of course, if I plug in a USB keyboard and mouse, I can input the PIN and continue on.

Uninstalling the app on the PC and tablet and installing latest versions of software (as of 11/14) make no difference.

I *assume* that this is a software incompatability between Windows/BIOS and Remote Keyboard, but was wondering if anyone else had seen this problem.

Bluetooth Completely Missing on NUC6i7KYK After Disabling in Windows 10

OK, I think this may be a problem that may occur on other devices than the NUC6i7KYK in Windows 10.  I'm just observing this on the NUC6i7KYK.  I've turned off the Bluetooth Radio from the "Action Center" controls because I don't generally use the radio.  But after some time Windows decides that there is no Bluetooth hardware in the machine and will not recognize the hardware until it is re-enabled.  The problem is there is nowhere that I can find that I can re-enable the radio.  I have updated the Intel drivers for the Bluetooth (which install OK with no mention that Bluetooth does not exist).  Yet after...  Device manager shows nothing about a disabled piece of hardware nor will Windows see the radio if I use Settings -> Update & Security ->Troubleshoot -> Bluetooth (It says there is no radio).  I disabled Bluetooth in the BIOS, rebooted, checked everything in Windows, uninstalled the driver, rebooted and still see no piece of Bluetooth hardware.  Not sure how to get this active again.

Intel NUCs with removable wireless features

The recent models of Intel NUC seems to have taken a bad path of soldering the wireless features (BT, WIFI and whatelse) onto the motherboard making it hard to remove these features if you want a device with no wireless features at all.

Are there any plans from Intel to revert from this bad decision and making it again possible to make the wireless features optional rather than mandatory?

Nuc7i5bnk gigabit lan negotiation fail

I have all the latest bios/drivers installed and noticed my network speed fails to initialize a 1000Mbps connection and uses a fallback to 100Mbps.

(Network driver is version 22.7.1)

I have the nuc connected to a gigabit switch which shows the connection speed with its leds ... orange being 100Mbps, green 1000Mbps

When the nuc boots, I see the network come up 3 or 4 times for 1 or 2 seconds in gigabit mode always losing connection (all lights out), then eventually it stays active in 100Mbps mode.

When I go to the properties of the network adapter, I see in the link speed tab, (its set to auto negotiation) current speed is: "100Mbps Full Duplex (EEE: Not Negotiated))"

I know gigabit was working before, unfortunately I cannot say what version of the driver was working and when it stopped ...

NUC7i7BNH 3x Display Support

Hi,

We've purchased a NUC7i7BNH and we're trying to use 3 monitors with it based on the assumption in the spec sheet that 3 displays are supported on a Windows 10 Pro 64-bit install.

To try and achieve this we've also purchased a Thunderbolt 3 to dual HDMI Adapter from Startech - Thunderbolt 3 to Dual HDMI Adapter - 4K, 30Hz | Video Adapters | StarTech.com United Kingdom as we would prefer to use HDMI monitors over DisplayPort monitors - unless of course this is not technically feasible.

Unfortunately, i'm not getting the results that I initially expected; I always get video on the built-in HDMI port, however I only seem to get a single video output on the Thunderbolt 3 adapter, even if there is no display connected to the built-in port. I'm only ever seeing 2x Generic monitors in device manager.

I don't think it's an issue with the adapter as I've been able to swap the cables over and still see video on the same monitor, but on the other port, however i'll also check in with tech support at Startech to see if there is anything they can suggest in the meantime.

I have tried updating the graphics drivers, installing the Thunderbolt 3 drivers and updating the BIOS.

I've done some digging and this page: https://www.intel.co.uk/content/www/uk/en/support/articles/000025672/graphics-drivers.html  seems to suggest that the graphics card supports 3 monitors and this page: https://www.intel.co.uk/content/www/uk/en/support/articles/000005571/mini-pcs.html  suggests that DisplayPort daisy chaining is the only option.

The BIOS for the NUC states that it only looks for a maximum of 2 monitors.

Am I chasing my tail here? Am I limited to 2x HDMI only and can I only use 3 displays via DisplayPort?

USB-C to HDMI adapter not visible

Dear everyone,

I am aware about lots of topics about USB-C to HDMI adapters on this forum, yet my situation is a little bit different.

What I've got:

     - 2 x NUC7i3BNK (second one was bought 3 months after first one)

     - 2 x i-tec USB-C HDMI Adapter

     - 4 x LG IPS Monitor 22MP58 | Sleek Cut Design IPS LED Monitor

Basically I want to have two double-monitor systems.

The case is that first NUC works perfectly with both adapters, but second doesn't work with any. After plugging adapter the screen sees something for a moment, but eventually shows "No signal". The OS here doesn't matter, since on NUC number one both screens work also when in UEFI configuration. Tried upgrading BIOS, without any success. Also, I couldn't find any settings in UEFI which could change anything.

I'm afraid that buying new adapter would be a waste of money, so my question is - what can I do?

Kind regards

nuc no display on tv after updating to windows fall creators update

my intel nuc7i5bnh was running windows 10 1703. during the restart process of the update, display was lost. tv reported "invalid format". changed tv settings but still no display. then i tried using a computer monitor which worked just fine. but i primarily use my nuc as a htpc, which is hooked up to the tv via hdmi. is there a solution for this? i can do a system restore and revert back to the earlier version but im afraid that windows update would just automatically reinstall the faulty update. thanks in advance!

Configure Firmware Settings During NUC Deployment

We have nearly a thousand NUC7i3BN's that we must configure the firmware during the Win 10 deployment.

Can someone advise how this can be achieved using a command line tool to set the required settings (unattended/silently)?

Thanks.

NUC6i5SYH SSD not found after removal and re-installetion of HDD

Hello,

I'm hoping that someone can help.

I bought a NUC6i5SYH last November as a ready to run computer, with SSD, HDD, RAM, and windows 10 pro installed.

the computer has been working perfectly (apart from the loud fan) until around a month ago when I removed the HDD.

I started the computer once without the HDD installed, after I re-installed the HDD the BIOS doesn't recognise the SDD anymore (not populated) only the HDD and therefore the computer can't BOOT.

I contacted the seller who informed me that I had invalidated the warranty as I'd opened the computer but they would repair at a cost.

I let the IT team in my company look at the NUC but they couldn't fix the problem either even after installing the latest BIOS and think it could be a hardware problem.

After reading the threads here I'm not so sure it's hardware related as there seems to be a lot of problems with the BIOS and the SDD.

I have tried everything I can think of and also a lot of the suggestions in the other threads here :- checked that SATA SMART is ticked, PCI devices M2 is ticked, BOOT is set to RAID, disconnected the CMOS battery for a few minutes. I also tried to BOOT with internal UEFI shell ticked in the BOOT configuration. Nothing works, I would be very grateful if someone could help, as I don’t want to scrap the computer.

NUC6CAYH screen turns black for a second

Hi. I`m having issues with a recently buyed NUC6CAYH. The screen will randomly turn completely black for a second or two. (it happend once every 4 or 5 minutes or once every 4 to 5 seconds)

It has windows 10 Pro installed with latest bios (040) and drivers installed.

It is connected via VGA cable to a LCD display (resolution: 1440x900@60Hz).

The things i`ve tried so far:

  • lowering the display resolution to other than the native display stops the flickering or at least makes it less frequent.
  • I had keyboard, mouse and two printers connected to a back USB port through a 2.0 USB hub. removing the USB hub eliminate de flickering (or at least it has not flicker once in about an hour) [Hub works flawlessly in other PCs]
  • Connecting mouse keyboard and two USB hdds makes the flickering happen at least once every 30 minutes.

Thanks in advance and excuse my english.

NUC6CAYH crashes due to hdmi

I got my nuc about 1.5 months ago, about a week ago I updated bios/graphics driver and ever since have been experiencing issues. The NUC seems to lock up whenever the display is disconnected. Either by windows putting it to sleep, or even if I unplug the hdmi cable. Primary display is a 2017 Vizo E-60-e3, but I have confirmed it on a 1080p pc monitor as well. I tried rollling back the drivers, but it wont boot with anything but the most recent drivers and the stock windows drivers. The issue does not happen on the windows drivers. Thanks in advance for assistance!

Texture bug?

I'm using a 3D graphic editor program that uses OpenGL.  After updating to the Skull Canyon NUC6I7KYK on 4 machines, this program is now having an issue.

Whenever we click a texture it changes ALL the textures in the 3D model to that texture.  Almost like the NUC has a graphics bug that is causing the most recent texture loaded to overwrite all the other textures for display.

I have downloaded the latest graphics drivers.  Anybody have any ideas?
