Looking for NUC with HDMI 2.0a and Toslink/SPDIF

$

How can I find a NUC with HDMI 2.0a and Toslink/SPDIF (optical or cinch)? Is there a matrix somewhere?

For NUC7i3BNH people are talking about an optical out, but on the page https://www.intel.de/content/www/de/de/products/boards-kits/nuc/kits/nuc7i3bnh.html

no toslink is mentioned.

NUC6CAYH seems to support hdmi 2.0a and toslink, but maybe this box is not the fastest?

(I assume if the NUC supports hdmi 2.0a, the hardware will also support HDR in theory if there are drivers? I plan to use ubuntu)

D53427RKE BIOS update fails

I have two almost identical Intel NUC's. One is a DC53427HYE and the other is a D53427RKE. I run Libreelec (Kodi) on both and I am starting to experience problems with waking from Suspend and intermittent black screens. I decided to update the BIOS on both machines. They both had an older version installed (0042). I successfully updated the DC53427HYE without any issues to BIOS version 0049 (latest). The D53427RKE starts to run the BIOS update and stops on "Management something error" and then reboots to Libreelec. I tried the IFLASH and F7 methods and also tried different USB drives, but they all fail with the same error. I should take a quick photo to capture the exact message but I thought I'd post this first to see if there was something I could try.

NUC7CJYH Linux/HDMI issues

I'm toying with my new NUC7CJYH with Linux (idea is to make replacement Kodi box out of it) and I have serious troubles trying to connect it to my TV. Things work OK when I connect it to my desktop DVI monitor via HDMI-DVI adapter - I can boot from Lubuntu LiveCD, install Linux and Kodi and video works fine. But when I connect it to my old tried TV box (50" Samsung regular full HD 1080 display) via HDMI thing immediately break. Here is what I see:

  • Splash screen shows up normally (showing "Intel NUC")
  • I can get into BIOS pressing F2 and it works fine too
  • Going into Linux boot I can see GRUB in text mode
  • When Linux switches to graphics mode TV does not show anything, in fact TV just says "No Signal" as if NUC does not send anything to HDMI.
  • This happens both with LiveCD on USB flash (latest Ubuntu 17.10) and with Ubuntu installed on SATA SSD.
  • I tried to play with BIOS settings changing every possible option, nothing helps
  • I also tried to change Linux video driver in X11 between intel/modesetting, does not help either
  • Even if TV does not show any picture I know that Linux boots and Kodi start OK, I can connect to the box with VNC and it shows expected picture, Kodi says it's configured for 1920x1080 display, just as expected.
  • From VNC I tried to change Kodi screen resolution, and that sometimes makes NUC to show picture on a TV, but it is not very consistent (works more frequently on lower resolution, but almost never for 1080p).
  • I tried it also on my other TV, 1080p LG, and it has the same problem.

I'm not sure what else to try, but to me it make my new NUC unusable (even before I get into audio over HDMI step which I expect to be a problem).

Does anyone see anything similar to my experience, or did you manage to make it work?

Dears,

last sunday, I download from this page Download driver di Grafica HD Intel®per Windows® 10 per Kit Intel® NUC NUC6CAYS e NUC6CAYH  the 15.65.4.4944 video driver.

Unzipping it and starting the exe, I got a message about not having the minimum requirements (or similar message).

So I tried the "have disk.." option to update the video driver, but Intel HD Graphics is not shown (I can only see Intel HD Graphics 620 and other two options).

Can you check the inf file?

Edit: I also tried this one (exe download) Download Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows* [15.65]  but after a flawless install process, at reboot I still have previous video driver.

I have a NUC6CAYS with Windows 10 home 64, 8 GB of RAM and all updates installed.

I can provide logfiles if you give me instructions.

Thanks,

Andrea

NUC5CPYH noisy fan and Seagate 1TB hard drive power requirement.

$

I bought this Intel NUC - NUC5CPYH with Celeron N3050 around 10 months back. Its working fine for my needs and the only problem I'm facing is the fan is making a lot of noise now. I tried playing with fan speeds but it makes no difference. There is always a constant whining sound and If I restart the pc, the fan goes full speed and extremely noisy and the only way to stop the noise is to shutdown the pc and start it after a minute.

I searched other threads and is the only recourse to send it back for replacement? This is the only computer I have at the moment so sending something for replacement and waiting for it will waste a few weeks. Plus there is another issue, that my almost new device will be replaced by years old and worn out scuffed device which i won't like.

Can I do something at my end like -

1 - cleaning the fan and oiling it?

2 - If I buy a high speed laptop cpu cooling fan will it fit?

3 - can i change the thermal pad on cpu with higher quality thermal paste? i have cooler master thermal paste with me.

If I do 1,2,3 will it void the warranty?

Ambient temps in my room are above 30 degrees Celsius always because its summer in India now. Motherboard and cpu temps are around 40+ and 50+ respectively.

About the hard drive:

I bought a Seagate 1TB Laptop HDD SATA 6Gb/s 128MB Cache 2.5-Inch 7mm Internal Hard Drive Model Number - ST1000LM048.

I put it in this nuc case and the nuc temps went through the roof. The temps was constantly above 55C.

I noticed that the power wires for the hdd are too thin in this. Can it power a laptop hard drive properly?

The drive seem to be under powered in the case and was making clicking noises. It died soon after - less than 10 minutes after I installed it in the case. Couldn't even install an os on it because it didn't show up in bios. The drive worked before in an external desktop dock so I think the nuc cannot give enough power to this device. The drive takes 1A power according to its specs sheet. Can the NUC power such high power sucking hard drives?

I removed the drive and been running linux off a sdcard since then.

NUC7i5BNH firmware update 0052 to 0061 safe to do?

$

I have a NUC7i5BNH using firmware 0052 and it appears to be working fine.  I see the latest firmware is 0061

but I see references in some forums to issues with firmware 0061 after updating.  This makes me a little gun-shy

about updating the BIOS though normally this would be a good idea to pick up security fixes and and other hardware

support improvements.  But this 0061 sounds a little questionable.

Can anyone comment on this?  Is it safe to update the BIOS to this version or is there hardware compatibility issues with

this BIOS update?

What is the community consensus on this?  Update or don't update?

Hello,

i have an issue by installing the LAN driver on my nuc7i7bnh... The installation start and after a while it says it s not possible to install the driver because there no lan adapter avaible. I checked in the bios and the lan is activate. I update the bios on latest version but it didn't help. I also try to install an older version of the lan driver but it didn't help.

Any solution?

Thanks

Dear Sirs,

Regarding NUC5CPYH: Windows 10 Pro.

We want to make encrypt mode by Bitlocker to C drive.

There is error sign that explains Bitlocker is not activated, and Bitlocker encryption key cannot get from trusted platform module(TRM). C Drive cannot be encrypted.

We switched Valid and Invalid, VEFI boot and legacy boot, but it is still not encrypted. Please advise us how to encrypt.

Thank you.

NUC6CAYH ethernet works with Cat6 cable, but not Cat5e.

I purchased a NUC6CAYH a couple weeks ago and set it up as a headless linux server for some light workloads I have. Everything seemed wonderful until I moved the NUC to its permanent location and couldn't get the Ethernet connection to light up. After some trial and error, I found out that the 20-foot Cat6 cable I had used for the initial setup works fine, but no other cables seem to work at all. Every other available cable I have is Cat 5e, and I've confirmed them working with other systems, but only the Cat 6 cable works with the NUC.

What could possibly cause this? I'm going to get some short Cat 6 cables to see if this is really a Cat 6 vs Cat 5e problem, but this just boggles my mind as it is...

NUC 6i7KYK Windows 10 - Headset microphone not being detected despite up-to-date Realtek drivers

$

Hi there,

What can I do to get my Intel NUC 6i7KYK Skull Canyon, running Windows 10 (Home), to detect my gaming headset's microphone audio input?

I have used the Intel automatic driver assistant and can confirm that my Realtek High Definition Audio drivers are up-to-date (6.0.1.7982, Release date: January 18, 2017, Size: 380 MB).

When I plug in my headset, which is this model, I do not get any Realtek Audio Manager pop-up window.

I have to manually click the Speaker icon in the taskbar, and this what I see in the Playback Devices & Recording Devices menus:

pZ9bd3.jpg

I have tested the Headset and it is properly receiving the NUC's stereo audio output.

The settings look like this:

KGC2zR.jpg

However, when I go to the Recording screen, with the Headset's boom mic plugged in correctly, all I see is this:

CHoZdT.jpg

Whatever this "Stereo Mix" thing is, the Intel NUC is detecting it as some sort of microphone or audio input device, because when I use Windows 10's default Voice Recorder application, it successfully records whatever music I'm currently listening to on the headset:

zB4c7y.jpg

And then when I disable the "Stereo Mix", the system does not detect my Headset Boom Mic:

HCabiO.jpg

The same result happens when I try to plug the headset into the front audio jack of the NUC, with my microphone attached to the headset, through a splitter cable (1 x 3.5mm female to 2 x 3.5mm male, headphone + mic separate lines). The headphone stereo audio out still works when using the individual headphone audio splitter cable. But the microphone is not detected when I plug just the splitter's mic jack into the front audio panel of the NUC.

So what can I do to make the headset microphone work?

I have come across similar questions and issues here and here

but neither of these provide solutions.

Could it be that my BIOS needs updating? The automatic Intel Driver assistant says that my BIOS needs updating. I will try download the latest version now and install it and see what happens.Update: No, a BIOS update did not fix the issue.

Update #2: Finally, the headset works, but only through a cheap USB sound card that I have which looks roughly like this:

44948856b16e6328896_f459.jpg

I would still like to know: how can I make the headset work just by plugging the combo, 4-strip 3.5mm jack of the headset into the combo front audio panel of my Intel NUC?

NUC5PPYH with Samsung SSD 850 EVO is unbootable after BIOS-Update 0068

$

Hello,

I own three NUC5PPYH with Samsung SSD 850 EVO 120 GB, 8 GB RAM and Windows 10 Pro.

Today I did the BIOS-Update against Meltdown and Spectre (0068):

Download BIOS Update [PYBSWCEL.86A]

I used the EXE-File for Windows. I got no errors during the update. While it installed the update, the LED was blinking blue. After it had finished the LED was solid blue and the NUC tried to reboot. But that's it. The OS does not start any more, only the Intel NUC-Screen appears. I can't even go to BIOS Setup or startup menu.

When I unplug the SSD, I can access BIOS setup. I enabled setup defaults, but no success, the Windows system does not boot.

Then I changed the SSD and put in a Samsung PM851 with 128 GB. With my Windows 10 USB-Stick I could install a fresh system on this SSD.

I took the Samsung SSD 850 EVO and put it into another PC and did a Secure Erase. Then I reinserted it into the NUC and wanted to do a fresh install of Windows 10. But I had no luck, I can't boot the system when the SSD 850 EVO is plugged in.

The strange thing is:
All of my three NUCs have exactly the same behavior. I can't believe that the BIOS-Update 0068 broke all of the three Samsung SSD 850 EVO in all of the three NUCs.

So: What can I do? Do I really need new SSDs after this BIOS-Update?

I am very sad about this BIOS-Update and that it broke my SSDs.

I really hope that there is a solution for it.

Thanks and kind regards

networker83.

Intel NUC7i TB3/USB-C Port Still Powered After Shutdown/Hibernate

When the computer is shutdown or hibernated, the USB-C/TB3 port is still powered.

In BIOS I turned off USB Power for Yellow port, and enabled Deep S4/S5, but still not resolved.

I have eGPU (Aorus Gaming Box) connected to TB3, and the fan keeps on even after shutdown. I have to unplug the NUC and the fan would then stop.

NUC7i7BNH Freezing

Getting the occasional freeze (3rd time now) when it seems like the unit is overheating.

But the only open programs are Skype, Chrome, and StarCraft-Remastered which isn't even a demanding game.

Event Viewer only showed this as per the attached:

The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

Why is this happening and how do I fix this?
