NUC7i5BNH Intermittent HDMI Audio Drop Issue

$

I recently purchased the NUC7i5BNH for use as my main HTPC.

Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

8GB RAM

128GB M.2 SSD

A/V connected to Vizio E50-C1 via HDMI 1.4a

Similar (but not identical) to some other issues posted on this forum, I am experiencing intermittent audio drop-outs during video playback.  The drop-out typically last no longer than 2 seconds, and occurs infrequently (no more than once per hour).

There is not affect to video playback, only audio.

I have experienced this while playing online video via Netflix (web browser and W10 app), YouTube, and HBO NOW.

I have experienced this while playing offline video via VLC and W10 Movies & TV app.

I have not experienced this while playing the same videos on an older laptop connected to the same Vizio E50-C1 via the same HDMI 1.4a cable.

I have temporarily worked around the problem by purchasing a USB-C-to-HDMI adapter, and connected the NUC7i5BNH to the same Vizio E50-C1 via the same HDMI 1.4a cable.  This has remedied the audio drop-out issue by bypassing the NUC7i5BNH's HDMI port completely.  I hope Intel issues a fix for the NUC7i5BNH's HDMI audio.

What is the definitive answer on HDR for NUC7CJYH ?

I see two different answers on HDR support for the new Gemini Lake NUCs. One Intel rep says it will have support, another says it will not. Intel marketing materials say the NUCs support HDR.

So which is it? Is this support coming or will it not be supported?

Does NUC7CJYH support HDR?

I received a message that there were several sofware updates from the Intel Driver Update Utility.  Three of the four installed, the fourth tried to install for several hours on 3/26.  Today, 3/28,  I am trying to reinstall and it has been over 2 hours and is stuck on the WiFi Link Driver.  Any thoughts?

i've just bought a 32gb opthane memory card, for too be used on my new nuc. My nuc model is "NUC7i7BNB and i updated to  latest bios version which is "BNKBL357.86A.0062.2018.0222.1644" a im using it with a 200gb sata drive.
the only problem is that it boots window 10 only if the chipset SATA option is set to AHCI, if i set to Intel Optane it looks for other media but doesn't see my hard drive nor boots to windows.
With this problem i can't neither install the optane memory software, as when i try to do this i get error. "Bios configuration not supported, and not compatible with optane memory"

my bios is  for AHCI, to boot into Windows.  its installed all drivers recommended by intel. really dissapointing that intel do not provide an easy way for this to be installed onto their own mini pcs.

I followed the gvt-g setup guide on github.

The guide worked well on a ASUS P9X79 Pro with Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4930K CPU @ 3.40GHz under Debian Strech.

But with Intel NUC 7i5DNH and Ubuntu 16.04.4

the command

ll /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:00:02.0/mdev_supported_types/

failed with directory not found.

Thanks

Opencv support on Intel NUC5i5MYBE Board

Hi,

I have installed Ubuntu 16.04 OS and ROS-Kinetic version on NUC5i5MYBE board. We have also installed Opencv 3.2 version for USB camera. While running the ROS code for camera, it's not linking all the required files.

However, the same code runs on PC having Intel i5 processor.

Does Intel NUC5i5MYBE board support Opencv packages or any other relevant packages to make video streaming work?

If not, please suggest how to stream videos on NUC5i5MYBE board?

Thanks & Regards,

Mayank

Thunderbolt support for Dawson Canyon?

I think Intel NUCS are fabulous little machines. When I saw the Dawson Canyon I almost fell off my bed because the hardware is just what I need and the name itself spoke to me. I was about to look at prices until I noticed that it didn't have a Thunderbolt port. For it not having thunderbolt made me turn away from Dawson Canyon because my next PC must have a Thunderbolt port. I saw in a video by Simply NUC that there is an expansion port on the back of Dawson canyon and what better place to ask then here in the Intel forums. Is there a way for Dawson Canyon to support a Thunderbolt Port? Or do I have to wait for Bean Canyon to come out in Q3 2018

Issues with NUC7I3BNH using 4k and HDR

Greetings!  I am aware that there are multiple threads regarding both 4k or HDR, but none seem to address my specific circumstances.  I have a brand spanking new NUC7i3BNH connected to a Denon AVRX3400H receiver, which in turn is connected to a Vizio P65-C1 TV.  I have confirmed that both the TV and receiver are both 4k and HDR compatible.  I have updated to the latest BIOS for the Nuc and Windows 10 is fully up to date.  When resolution is set to 4k, the slider for HDR in Windows 10 will not work.  I flip it to On, screen goes blank for a few seconds, then it asks if I want to keep the settings, but HDR is Off again.  If I change the resolution to 1080P, HDR stays on.  That's issue 1.

Issue 2 is when I leave resolution set to 4k and launch Power DVD.  Power DVD turns on HDR (while still at 4k), but the audio stops working.  If I switch inputs on the receiver and then switch back, audio is back, but the receiver seems to only receive a Dolby Digital signal no matter what audio is selected.  Once back in Windows, HDR goes back to being disabled, but audio works fine, which was confirmed by launching the Windows Dolby Access program and watching one of the videos to confirm the receiver sees a Dolby Atmos signal.

Is this a bandwidth issue?  Is there something I'm doing wrong?  I'm using https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SI1J98W/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 for cables, which I believe are capable of doing this?

The only solution that I've seen that seems to work for everyone is to use a USB-C to HDMI converter, but from what I read it seems that it is used in conjunction with the built-in HDMI so it seems it's separating audio to one HDMI and video to the other, which won't work in my scenario.

Intel NUC7i TB3/USB-C Port Still Powered After Shutdown/Hibernate

When the computer is shutdown or hibernated, the USB-C/TB3 port is still powered.

In BIOS I turned off USB Power for Yellow port, and enabled Deep S4/S5, but still not resolved.

I have eGPU (Aorus Gaming Box) connected to TB3, and the fan keeps on even after shutdown. I have to unplug the NUC and the fan would then stop.

IR receiver not working on NUC7i3BNK after startup

$

I have two NUC7i3BNK that both have the same issue of the ITECIR Infrared Receiver not being detected after startup. It seems to only happen when the units are started by turning on their HDMI monitor or by pressing the power button on a RC6 IR remote. If I press the power button on the unit to turn it on or select restart in windows the ITECIR Infrared Receiver shows up in device manager and a IR remote works normally. When the IR decides not to work, scanning for new devices in device manager makes no difference and the ITECIR Infrared Receiver does not show up under HID. Both units are running windows 10 and didn't have the issue when initially installed.

Intel NUC7i3DNH - COM port not working?

Hello, we have two of these NUCs. We placed board from the first one to Akasa passive case A-NUC39-M1B (Plato X7D). This case comes with COM port cable (see attachment). COM is enabled in BIOS (bios v40) and visible as COM1 in Windows 10 1703. But no communication goes through. We checked that Akasa cable with tester (acoustic pin tester) and cable is OK.  We then tried second board and still no luck - it's the same. Intel, can you check it is working on your test units, please? It seems unlikely to me that we got bad luck wit two boards.

Problems with I219-V (on NUC6i3SYK) at 1 Gbps

Hello.

I have a NUC6i3SYK which has I219-V NIC on board.

First of all, there are no problems with network connection when the card is connected to 100Mbps capable switch/router.

But there are problems when it is connected to 1 Gbps capable router. After switching NUC on, and booting into Windows, after some time (1-10 minutes) the connection quality decreases really bad, ping to the router raises to 500-1000 ms and some packets get lost.

Disabling/enabling the card fixes it for another 1-10 minutes.

Setting Link Speed to 100Mbps also fixes the problem.

I ruled out the router as the cause, because another PC connected to the same router works flawlessly on 1 Gbps - it also has I219-V but on another motherboard (ASUS Z270G).

Of course I tried switching router ports and cables between the two PCs but it didn't help.

WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR on Intel NUC (NUC7i5BNH)

I have big problems with my new Intel NUC

Model: NUC7i5BNH (Date of Manufacture: 06/2017), SA J3**** - 305

SSD: Samsung 960 Evo M.2

RAM: 8GB Crucial DDR4-2133 SO-DIMM CL15 Single (CT8G4SFD8213)

The most problematic thing is a bluescreen with error WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR (Bug check code: 0x00000124). Sometimes the NUC just restarts with no bluescreen at all.

  • I use the latest version of Windows 10.
  • The drivers of the NUC are up to date.
  • I've updated the BIOS to version 0062 (I don't know which version previously was installed).
  • I've checked my RAM with Memtest86.

I have heard the NUC6 had electrical problems which were fixed by a new BIOS version 0042. Are NUC7 models with earlier BIOS versions also affected by these problems?

Does anyone has an idea?

Well, after downloading the update (TBT_WIN10_64_17.2.71.250), installing it and rebooting the box the driver and support assistant is still showing me that i have installed Version 17.2.71.2 and an update is available. I have installed Version 3.2.0.9 of the Intel driver and support assistant.

unreliable HDMI via SC-HTB15 Sound Bar

$

I bought a NUC7i5BNH for use as a home theater system. It is connected to a Samsung UE40D5000 via a Panasonic SC-HTB15 Sound Bar. The sound bar has two HDMI inputs and one HDMI output. It can switch between the two inputs and will decode audio streams itself.

My problem now is that the HDMI video output is not working under all circumstances. I can see the boot screen just fine, but once Windows 10 comes up, the TV loses the signal. The Windows installation was done today while connected to a normal monitor, using an evaluation version of Windows 10 Enterprise. I've not installed any specific drivers. I did update the BIOS to the latest (BNKBL357.86A) and also checked that the HDMI firmware is up-to-date (it was, at 1.72 as reported by the update tool).

I only installed Windows because that's the supported OS for the NUC. What I had tried first was Ubuntu Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS with updated kernel (4.13.0-37-generic) and XFree (xorg-hwe-16.04). There the situation is a bit mixed. The desktop comes up fine. Chromium starts. But loading a web page with images causes the screen to go blank. Killing Chromium brings the display back. In Kodi, the main UI is fine. But as in Chromium, once it the UI contains images, the display goes blank and comes back when returning to a screen without images. Not very useful...

I can avoid all of these issues by connecting the NUC directly to the Samsung TV. But then I lose the ability to do audio decoding in the sound bar.

The HDMI cables have worked flawlessly in this setup with some other, older mini computer.

Any suggestions? I can still return the NUC, but I'd prefer to keep it, because it performs better than my older system.
