NUC7i7BNH & 4K - Did I mess up?

$

Recently acquired a NUC7i7BNH to fill-in as a light duty Plex server (single stream, mostly direct play).

Win10 Pro

500GB m.2 SSD

2TB HDD

Cat 5 Wired

All seems to be working except when I attempt to use the NUC as a Plex client.  I get playback on my 1080p content, but a only black screen (w/audio) for 4K HDR content.  The NUC can serve 4K content to my other Plex clients with no complaints (AndroidTV, LGTV, TiVo).  Using the NUC as a Plex client/player is my issue.  Before purchasing, I had read 4K playback was possible on these devices.

So far, here are my steps:

1.  Swapped out HDMI cables, swapped to alternate HDMI Inputs to LGTV 4K TV

2.  Updated BIOS to latest v1.72, dated 11/20/2017 (claims to update HDMI 2.0 Firmware)

3.  Updated Graphics driver to latest v24.20.100.6025, dated 5/7/2018

Multiple reboots, confirmed the BIOS and drivers updates have "stuck", still getting blank screen with 4K content.

Questions:

1.  Did I misunderstand the 4K playback capability of this device?

2.  Any other BIOS/Config settings to tweak?

3.  Any suggestions to get this NUC working as expected?

Thank you!

NUC8i7HVK trying to RAID 2 800P SSDs

I have BIOS 0040 installed.

I am attempting to RAID 2 800P SSDs and I am getting some kind of bug in the BIOS. This is what I get in the 3 ways I can configure M.2.

As you can see when attempting to remap these drives to RST M.2 drive #2 does not do so correctly.

I have already swapped drive positions and M.2 #2 still will not remap.

NUC5I7RYH 4k@60hz - no success.

Hello,
reposting an old thread with an update.

I've just purchased a new 27" LG monitor that runs 4k@60hz, should arrive in a day or two.
I have a NUC5I7RYH PC, Running on an updated Win10, just updated the latest Graphics drivers and BIOS, and also everything else is updated.

I have a Phillips 32" 4k Monitor - this one https://www.philips.com.eg/en/c-p/328P6VJEB_56/brilliance-4k-lcd-monitor-with-ultra-wide-color/overview
which i already run it on 4k @ 60hz with a newer NUC 7 we have at home.

I've checked everywhere to be sure, and the tech spec of the NUC5i7RYH states it runs 4k @ 60hz using the DIsplay port and running a single Monitor.

I've tried both a Sabrent adapter, mDP to HDMI that i purchased specially, states 4k@60hz, with an HDMI cable tested to run at 4k 60hz, but no success, the monitor won't give me a 60hz option, only 30hz
Custom resolution forcing 4k @ 60hz - failed

I've purchased a new cable mDP - DP, states 4k @ 60hz on the spec, also fails to run at 60hz, only 30hz

I don't wish to upgrade my PC just yet, I want it to perform as Intel says it should... can some one please help me out ?
I've tried everything ! I've also blocked the Audio support from the Video output on the BIOS settings, thought it might give some extra bandwidth, no change.

How do we fix this Issue??

Thanks,
Ohad.

BOXNUC7I5BNH loses BIOS seetings

My 7th Gen NUC does not retain BIOS boot settings when unplugged.

Any time I unplug my NUC it losses detection of the M.2 SSD and boot priority settings.

I have to restart once to get it to recognize the m.2, then enter boot settings and change it to boot from the M.2.

Is this just how it is, or can I fix it somehow?

Radeon RX Vega M GH Thermal Throttling at 65c

I've tried everything that I can think of to resolve GPU thermal throttling that I'm observing at 65c with no luck. I first performed a clean install of the graphics drivers, then I reset the BIOS, then I resorted to a full OS reinstall, nothing helped. The GPU is most certainly thermal throttling and can't maintain it's core clock at 1190 Mhz, any benchmark or game that I run will progressively run slower within a short period of time after starting it. It fails a Fire Strike Stress Test with a 93% with the fans turned up. I also tried manually setting the max temperature to 80c in WattMan. I don't understand what's happening here.

Has anyone else seen something similar with their new NUC8i7HVK?

I'm using the following.

BIOS: 0037

Graphics Driver: 2048

Windows 10 Home Version: 1803

The BIOS did not correctly communicate with the Trusted Platform Module (TPM)

Hi,

I'm trying to deploy  more than 50 NUCs with SCCM.

A lot of NUCS are succesfully deployed but a few others aren't.

An error occurs during the last step of the sequence: Enable Bitlocker.

2150694914: The BIOS did not correctly communicate with the Trusted Platform Module (TPM). Contact the computer manufacturer for BIOS upgrade instructions.

Manually:

When i try to enable Bitlocker manually from Windows, the following error is shown: The BIOS did not correctly communicate with the Trusted Platform Module (TPM).

unreliable Workaround:

The problem goes (not always) away after disabling and enabling UEFI BOOT and SECURE BOOT, followed by Clear Secure Boot Data.

Its possible that the NUCs were previously deployed with bitlocker, but i can't verify this.

How can i prevent this error in the future, and upcoming deployments?

Thanks in advance,

Jerome

NUC7i7DNK not achieving proper NVME speeds

$

I have just purchased a NUC7i7DNK, and installed a Samsung 970 Pro NVME (1tb) in it. I freshly installed ubuntu 16.04.
Unfortunately the maximum sequential read speed I can get is only about 1.8 GB/s.
I checked the bios but I couldn't find any options about NVME -- it does appear to be reading it correctly, but the speed is about half what it should be.
Any ideas what I can do?

NUC8i7HVK no HDMI audio signal when connected to receiver

I have set up the NUC as an HTPC. The HDMI connection from the NUC goes to a receiver and then from the receiver to the TV. The PC desktop is displayed on the TV but no sound output devices are found. The PC says that nothing is connected?

I have checked the HDMI cables and they are working. Reconnected my old NUC6i7KYK and is able to send audio and video through receiver to TV.

I bypassed the receiver and connected HDMI directly to NUC. Video and sound were sent to TV.

Why would the NUC HVK HDMI sound not work when connected to receiver?

Mouse cursor disappears

Several months ago, my cursor (not the pointer) began disappearing whenever I was typing in multiple applications, i.e. MS Office (Word, Outlook & Excel), this website, browsing bars on multiple Internet browsers), requiring that I left-click the mouse to restore the cursor.

I believe I can now isolate this issue to the NUC, and not Windows, Logitech or MS Office software.

Is anyone else with a similarly configured NUC experiencing this issue?  All advice welcome.  I will add that Logitech technical support did mention that they had received this issue from others and they thought that it may be a Windows or Office issue, but I can find nothing on Microsoft's board about this issue with a cursory (NPI) search.

Thanks.

I am using a Logitech K350 wireless keyboard & M510 mouse with the Unifying connector and current software Logitech - SetPoint version 6.67.83 (64-bit)This issue does not occur on my Samsung laptop when using the same keyboard, mouse and connector. Note that I have moved the Unifying Connector amongst the USB ports on the NUC.

I believe Windows 10HP 64-bit is up to date,  -

Hotfixes from Microsoft Update (agent version 10.0.17134.48) install automatically.

Last install: 5/28/2018 7:56:30 AM, check: 5/28/2018 7:56:15 AM.

NOTE: (KB4100403) is now being downloaded and installed, with a restart required.  I will do this now and if this issue magically disappears will update this.  It will probably not disappear...

I am fairly certain my NUC BIOS is up to date, although I haven't checked in about a year, so if someone is aware that Intel released anything new in the past few months, please let me know and I'll update it. My current BIOS is WYLPT10H.86A.0045.2017.0302.2108 (installed 3/2/2017)
