NUC7I5BNK Wireless adapter dissappear from devices in Windows 10 after reboot.

Hello community, I have purchased a brand new NUC7I5BNK few weeks ago and just started to play with it, so far, the installation of Windows 10 and Linux (Lubuntu) worked pretty fine, I have upgraded Windows with the latest updated, installed all the drivers from the official Intel support website and everything looked fine.

Unfortunately, the day after I installed everything I powered on the NUC and realized the Wireless adapter just dissapear from the device manager, so I did some troubleshoot, I have uninstalled the driver and then rebooted, the wireless adapter appeared again so I tried again installing the latest release (20.50.0) and it worked fine for a while. Once again, after some reboots, the wireless adapter dissapeared, I did more troubleshoot, installing a previous driver (20.30.1), did the same without luck until I realized the wireless adapter was in a disabled status in the Network Connections panel, once again, it worked for a while until I rebooted the NUC few more times.

At this point, I just decided to start playing with linux as that was going to be the mainly used SO of the NUC, it worked fine for a while too until I experienced exactly the same behavior, the adapter just dissapear after few reboots.

I also upgraded the BIOS to the release 0064 without luck, any SO (Windows 10 or Lubuntu) sometimes detects the adapter and sometimes they don't, I have not played around for a long period of time, so I cannot assure the adapter runs fine during hours of working, I only see the issue after rebooting the NUC, and it is quite annoying as sometimes even after many reboots, the adapter just does not appear.

I strongly believe there is a hardware issue, but open to hear any suggestion.

Thanks in advance.

Power custom Settings not getting updated with custom BIOS update file

Hello,

I am using an Intel NUC7i5BNB,

On one of my NUC's, NUC1 was running BIOS Firmware 49 version ( BNKBL357.86A Version:0049 )

On my other NUC, NUC2, I updated the BIOS to the latest 65 version. Then followed all the steps to create a custom BIOS (myCustom65.bio) file to include the 65 major revision update along with my own customised BIOS settings using Intel Integrator Toolkit. I modified certain BIOS Power Settings and certain BIOS Boot Settings in my custom settings.

Now when I tried to update my NUC1 with myCustom65.bio, even though the update from 49 to 65 major revision was done successfully, not all of my custom settings got applied.

Only the BIOS Boot custom settings were applied, but the BIOS Power custom settings did not get applied.

Please let me know what I need to do to ensure that all of my custom settings gets applied with my update file.

Thanks a lot.

Regards,

FST

Intel NUC6i7KYB bios will not update

Hello -- I have  Modula Skull Canyon (NUC6i7KYB) running Windows 10 version 1511 (out of date, I know, but this is a problem for a different forum and a reason I found out the BIOS weren't updating). My current BIOS version reads as #0037 (KYSKLi70.86A.0037.2016.0603.1032) in both the Windows command prompt query and the BIOS boot menu on startup. The following steps have been attempted to install BIOS releases 0053, and then 0051 when that didn't take.

I first attempted to remedy this automatically with the Intel Driver and Support Assistant. I am prompted that I need a BIOS update, which I downloaded and installed, and after reboot produced a popup saying the BIOS update was success. The BIOS version did not update as confirmed in both windows query and boot menu.

I then did this manually with the windows executable, which rebooted, offered no such popup or error messages, and did not update the BIOS.

I then downloaded the .bio for both, and did a manual F7 install in the boot menu, same result, as well as attempt to boot from flash drive, again same result.

I'm out of ideas. I have been having additional Windows update issues for some time, in case that helps form a possible constellation of issues, but will spare you the prose for now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

For monitoring sensors in Windows, Intel advises by the following link multiple sofware tools.

Diagnostic and Performance Tools for the Intel® NUC
We've tested Open HW monitor, SpeedFan and Hmonitor

But non of those tools works properly with the 7th generation NUC !?!?!?!?!?

For a big upcomming project 1000+ pieces, we need a proper tool to monitor de NUC.
And for us it is important to also see the voltages and cpu-fan speed.

Does anyone know a better tool ???
Is there a setting in the bios to unlock such sensors for monitoring ???

DRM & HDCP Content Issues

NUC6i7KYK

Display: 4K 60Hz

Iris Pro GFX 580 Version: 24.20.100.6025

HDMI Ports & Cables: 2.0 w/ HDCP 2.2

Browser: All of them

Intel HDMI Firmware Updater Version: 0x07_0x20

ISSUE #1: If I click a movie's page on Amazon Prime, display goes blank every time. Screen shows "No signal detected". It won't display anything again until I Shut Down/Hibernate the NUC. Removing the HDMI cables or turning off TV won't solve problem. I've noticed this only seems to happen on sites with DRM content. A few examples are: 1, 2, and 3. Tried GFX update version 24.20.100.6136 and same problem. Currently experimenting with 21.20.16.4860, but it's just as bad so far. It appears the only way to ensure the display doesn't go blank (in FireFox) is to disable the Widevine Plug-in. But then Amazon won't allow movie streaming at all. To watch a film, I must enable DRM/Widevine, Hibernate, Power back up, then the page suddenly works fine until I click away. What leads me to believe this is a NUC graphics issue is that it happens regardless of browser, and only on my 4K display. NUC also completely froze up on YouTube videos a couple times. None of this happens with my 1080p display connected. Nor does it happen when my 4K TV resolution is set to 1080p. Any suggestions? I'm currently awaiting response from Amazon also.

ISSUE #2: HDCP 2.2 devices not recognized by Amazon (again) at 4K 60Hz. This issue occurs no matter what version graphics firmware I use. But if I decrease the display frequency to 30Hz, HDCP videos suddenly work as they should. And again, they also work fine if I decrease the 4K TV's resolution to 1080/60. I'm hesitant to believe this is proper functioning.

I'm pretty certain the two issues are related through the Pro 580's processing of 4K graphics, but not sure how/why. If anyone knows of other websites with CRM/HDCP 2.2 mandated videos where I can compare to Amazon, I'm all ears. Don't have access to NetFlix though.

NUC 7i5BNH does not output 4K@60p with 10-bit YCbCr420 color + HDR

Hi all,

Just got myself a new LG 65B7 TV

Hooked my NUC to it - it switched to 4K automatically.

I has also able to change the output to 60Hz via the Intel management utility.

However, I do not see an option to change the color depth or format.

I saw some screen captures in other topics where people have an "advanced" in the "display" menu - while I do not.

Is it something I have to enable somehow?

Maybe the missing settings are hiding there...

Anyway, my current settings are stuck at 4K@60p with 8-bit YCbCr420, and I do not see any way to change those.

Updated the graphics drivers, flashed HDMI firmware, flashed BIOS, Windows is updated to the creators update.

Regarding HDR - I do see the toggle - but when toggled - it just goes back to being off.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

NUC7i5BNH CPU package C-States/SpeedShift - UEFI Legacy boot issues

$

0

Hi all,

l got a NUC7i5BNH from a couple of months which does not work as expected, I'll try to make it clear to understand and reproduce.

My previous NUC was a Skylake one, so starting with the new Kaby Lake unit I soon noticed it couldn't reach CPU package C-States lower than C2 in Windows 10 when CPU is idle and the display is powered on:

this produces higher temperatures, higher power consumption and higher noise than expected (and necessary), so I started investigating from BIOS configuration.

After some testing, and with my great surprise, I found that "Legacy boot" option disabled was the culprit for this behaviour.

Premises:

- Unit is NUC7i5BNH equipped with 2x16GB RAM Crucial CT2K16G4SFD8213 and M.2 2280 AHCI SSD Crucial CT500MX200SSD4 MX200

- Operating system used for testing is always an UEFI clean install of Windows 10 x64 1803 up to date (latest build 17134.12) with no crap/trash, just a clean system for testing purpose

- Drivers are up to date as per NUC7i5BNH Intel support page

- UEFI firmware is up to date (BNKBL357.86A Version 0065 6/6/2018)

- BIOS was always flashed via jumper recovery (F9 default settings loaded after power off and power chord uplug)

- NUC is connected to a DELL display via HDMI port or to a Samsung Smart TV via HDMI port (both display are full HD resolution 1920x1080), with same results

- Monitoring software used is HWInfo via its sensors interface

Better issue description:

BIOS default settings enable both "UEFI boot" and "Legacy boot":

with this configuration, when CPU is idle C-States work as expected and CPU can reach package C8 with the display active, using both "Balanced"* and "Power Saver" Windows 10 plans (* to get C8 with "Balanced" powerplan may be necessary changing PCI Express setting to maximum power saving, otherwise C3 is maximum C-State reached).

When display goes off due to power saving timer, CPU can reach lower C-States (C9 and C10)

This is the expected (per Intel docs) behaviour, so power comsumption, heat and temperatures get benefits when there is no load.

If  "Legacy boot" option is disabled, when CPU is idle can reach only package C2 state if the display is active.

When display goes off due to power saving timer, CPU can now reach package C8 and lower (do note that if you just unplug HDMI cable or manually power off the display via power button, CPU still remains in C2).

This is not the expected behaviour, because system cannot get advantage of its lovely built-in power saving features.

I am an IT-Pro guy and a passionate user, so I tried to find a solution by myself but no luck:

- I tried changing any related or unrelated bios setting in every crazy combination possible without any effect, you need "Legacy boot" enabled

- I tried any available graphic driver for this unit and also generic non-NUC from Iris Plus 640 page (newer tried was Version:24.20.100.6136), no difference

- I tried tuning every Windows power setting - also advanced hidden ones - in every power plan, but no difference

- I tried also (just for fun) loading Windows 10 from USB drive with no other drive connected to the unit, no difference

Do note the same thing happened on previous BIOS version I went through before last revision (0062, 0063, 0064), so downgrade to that revisions is useless.

Do also note that any recent Linux distribution I tried (Kernel from 4.15 up to 4.17) do not suffer this problem:

also without loading firmware blobs on boot, CPU can reach lower package C-States - as Intel Powertop reports - just as expected also when  "Legacy boot" option is disabled in BIOS and the display is active (may be necessary tuning some options to enable all power saving features, but it is expected and works fine).

Paradox here is Windows 10 is the only supported operating system by Intel for this NUC and - as per following Intel recommendations - should be installed only in UEFI mode to avoid issues.

Supported Operating Systems for Intel® NUC Products - "UEFI Boot is required to install Windows 10 - this is set by default in BIOS Setup. Using Legacy Boot results in multiple errors in Device Manager."

Some thoughts:

I think it is clearly a bug, it shows itself only in Windows 10 but I do not think Windows 10 is the culprit itself:

as reported, leaving "Legacy boot" option enabled everything works as expected, so I suppose this problem is bios related but obviously I can be wrong (as I never thought that such option could have such impact on power saving features).

UEFI and legacy boot initialize hardware in different ways and some of the features involved in power saving options are based on firmware blobs, anyway this is out of my control and I just don't have any other idea on how to try fixing it, so I hope someone can "pass the ball" to the right team and investigate about this issue, which could be present on other Kaby Lake NUCs as well.

To me and - I suppose - to the largest part of owners and/or potential owners - leaving "Legacy boot" option enabled is not an actual solution nor an option because:

- it prevents booting via UEFI PXE and micro sd slot (due to PCIe interface)

- it prevents (or may prevent) booting from NVME PCIe SSD, and if you disable it you'll loose idle power saving features

- if "secure boot" is needed and so enabled, "Legacy boot" is consequently disabled and you'll loose idle power saving features

- power saving features like CPU Package C-States and Speed Shift are really important arguments of choice when buying these units and should work as expected at least in the only OS supported by Intel

Steps to reproduce:

To get Idle C-States NOT working with display active:

- In VisualBIOS, load BIOS default settings with F9 and disable "Legacy boot", save with F10 and confirm.

- Boot Windows 10 and monitor CPU C-States with HWInfo (or any other similar software): C2 will be maximum package C-State reached in idle  with every power plan when the display is active.

To get Idle C-States working with display active (the expected behaviour):

- In VisualBIOS, load BIOS default settings with F9, save with F10 and confirm.

- Boot Windows 10, select "Power Saver" powerplan* and monitor CPU C-States with HWInfo (or any other similar software): C8 will be maximum package C-State reached in idle with the display active (C9 and C10 with display off via power saving timer).

* You can get C8 also with "Balanced" powerplan, but it may be necessary changing PCI Express setting to maximum power saving.

I hope it can be fixed, thanks in advance to everyone who can investigate about it.

Best regards to all the community,

M

NUC7i7BNH won't sleep, only restart, and Optane issues

evening all,

I have a NUC7i7BNH running Win10, fully patched with latest Intel drivers and Windows updates, but ever since I've had it, the unit won't sleep, it will only power off or restart when it reaches a low power state.

Curiously, it will go to sleep if I'm charging something (iPad, headphones etc), but I'm assuming that with the charging it's maintaining a certain power level, so it's performing it's sleep correctly.  I've tried recommended power settings in BIOS and OS but no joy.

I've also got an Optane card that isn't recognised in the OS.  I've got RST turned on in BIOS (but it shows nothing in M2), and if I have it set to AHCI, then M2 shows up with the Optane card.  Windows calls it an Intel Chipset SATA/PCIe RST premium controller in Device Manager, but nothing in Disk Mgmt and the Optane Memory app says there's nothing installed.  Have tried reseating the card several times without success.

Happy to provide any and all info to get to the bottom of this.

If anyone could shed some light on this I would very much appreciate it.

Cheers,

Nevin

NUC5i3RYK - Can't boot from USB thumbdrive - legacy OR UEFI

$

Hello everyone.  I have searched and read just about every post I can find about problems booting from USB sticks, but I can't seem to solve the problem on my Nuc.

Specs: Nuc Box says NUC5i3RYK; Bios says "Desktop Board NUC5i3RYB"; Bios Version: RYBDWi35.86A.0369.2018.0305.1050 (latest); 8GB RAM; M.2 SSD.  Machine boots just fine from the SSD and operates normally.  But booting from a USB stick is a different matter.

In BIOS, both UEFI and Legacy boot are enabled; Under boot conf, USB and OPTICAL Boot devices are checked; secure boot is disabled.

When I plug in a USB Thumb Drive to boot from (Linux, Acronis Backup, Spinrite, etc), I get NO legacy boot options on the F10 screen.  The drive will appear as a UEFI device: "UEFI  :  USB  :  UEFI  :  USB  :  USB DISK 2.0 PMAP  :  PART 0  :  OS Bootloader  : PART 0".  If I select that, I get about a half second black screen, then I'm returned to the F10 boot options screen to try again. I have confirmed that all the thumb drives I have created will boot okay on another machine, so the drives appear to be okay.  I can, however, boot from a Legacy USB CD-ROM drive without issue.

Also, when in BIOS, no boot drives show under the legacy screen, even when one is plugged into the USB port.

I have toggled just about every setting I can find in the bios that relates to booting or to USB. I have also tried the USB sticks in every USB port on the Nuc.  I have also done an F9 Bios reset to defaults without any success.  Can anyone steer me in a good direction on this?  Thank you in advance...

D53427RKE - Multiple reboots daily

Details:

D53427RKE

8GB Micron Memory

128 Intel SSD

Windows 10

My NUC is on 24/7 running Weather and IPcam software.

It has been mainly fine for a long time.

A week or so ago I noticed something amiss.

Upon checking the Windows event viewer I see that it is restarting up to 10 times a day.

Nothing else obvious is reported in the event viewer.

Enabled writing a system dump, but 'WhoCrashed' app never reports anything, no dump to read.

I disabled restart upon system failure to see if I could see anything on 'screen' ( I remote into it via AMT/vPro)

Still, the resets happen, I was remoted in when it happened and nothing, the screen goes black with no warning and system rebooted.

I looked in the AMT Event Log and notice this:

Operating system lockup or power interrupt.

It is reported every 2 minutes until a reboot.

Sometimes it will reboot again within 10 minutes, sometimes it will go a few hours.

Have done 'clean' boots into Windows to try and rule out software or drivers but nothing seems to make a difference.

Anyone got any thoughts?

Could it be Power Supply related? Memory?

I didn't make any changes around the time it started so I don't think it is software or driver related.

I suppose Windows could of updated, not sure.

NUC7PJYH - 1440p impossible for DVI/DP monitor??

$

I am desperately trying to connect my new NUC7PJYH to a 27" and get a full WHQD 1440p resolution - with NO luck!!

The NUC only has 2 HDMI 2.0 outputs, and my monitor choices are as follows:

HP ZR2740w

can only run 1440p via DVI or Displayport.

DELL U2713H

can only run 1440p via DVI or Displayport

Samsung S27A850T

can only run 1440p via DVI or Displayport

So any advice on how to do that? Because for the life of me I can not find a solution. HDMI to DVI/DP on the NUC seems mission impossible. Which I don't understand, because the bandwidth on either side (HDMI2.0) and DVI/DP is more than sufficient.

Of course I'm using latest windows 10 build, with latest intel drivers for everyhthing and monitor drivers.

NUC7i3 on TV causing cable TV decoder on second HDMI channel flickering

Hello,

My brand new Nuc7i3 has HDMI problems on my led TV (from 2008) with windows 10.

Nuc is working fine on HDMI 1

When switching to another HDMI channel (cable TV) it keeps switching.

Latest bios / graphic drivers are installed. Tried switched off HDMI CEC in bios.

I suspect intel HD graphics driver.

When in bios mode the HDMI2 channel where the cable TV decoder is on is working fine.

When using Ubuntu 18.04 as an OS No problems whatsoever!

Does anyone has a solution for this behaviour?

thanks,  Jan

NUC8i7HVK faulty usb-c video drivers

I've setup my hades canyon nuc (NUC8i7HVK) with all the latest drivers and bios and the performance of my monitors when driven by the thunderbolt/usb-c output is awful. The monitors have a native resolution of 2650x1440, but the NUC will only drive them at 2048x1080. Using the mini-display ports doesn't fair any better. In both cases the rendering lag is 300ms - 2 seconds depending on the task.

Also, the time to negotiate the connection takes 4-10 seconds (if it even displays at all).

The monitors work perfectly and instantly when plugged into the usb-c on my macbook pro.

Pre-sales questions

Hello,

Very serious in buying a Hades Canyon 8i7HVK and have been researching it. But a couple of questions though - Which relate to some issues being presented here.

firstup, and very important to me, the often reported noise through the speakers deeply concerns me.  I plan to get the optical out from the nuc and plug into my NAD digital amp and drive my paradigm speakers.  This is for music (FLAC) and sound quality is very important to me - but if there is a hint of noise coming through then I would be totally upset.  Is this noise an ongoing and widespread issue?   is it being looked at?  This noise issue could be a dealbreaker for me.

Secondly, anyone here run any flight sim software on the nuc - particularly prepar3d?  Curious to know how it goes with it.

Finally, I realise that windows 10 is the supported OS - but does anyone run Linux under VM using virtual box?   if so, how is that?

thanks

NUC6I7KYK doesn't respond to F2 (or F7, or F10) during boot

I have been unable to get my NUC6I7KYK to respond to the F2 key (or any other key for that matter) during the boot sequence. The machine is running the most recent BIOS but I also tried the immediate previous one and ran into the same problem. I know the keyboard function keys are OK because they work fine (during boot) on my other computer. It's been a while since I've changed any of the settings on the NUC but I did make some changes a long time ago so I know it used to work.

I do see the F2/F7/F10 options displayed during boot. I've considered the possibility that somehow the thing might have gotten set up for Fast Boot so I've tried the instructions for bypassing it but either that doesn't work or there's some trick I'm missing.

Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Hi everyone,

I have a strange situation when upgrading vega driver to the newest version (24.20.11001.1028). After upgrading (clean install) my mouse becomes very laggy when moving. I tried both wired and wireless (2.4ghz) mouses, same issue.

I downgradded to the older version (23.20.792.2048) and everything is back to normal.

Does anyone know what could be the issue?

Bios fails to update from USB on NUC5i5MYHE

I have a NUC5i5MYHE which still has the factory BIOS installed, running Manjaro Linux 64-bit.

Hoping to update the BIOS, I downloaded the "OS Independent" BIOS update iFlash BIOS update [MYBDWi5v.86A.0044.BI.ZIP].

I copied the .BIO file to a USB drive and shut down. On startup, I pressed F7 and got to the update BIOS menu. There I selected the USB, and then selected the .BIO file. A message appeared asking if I really want to update the BIOS using that file. I pressed Return to confirm.

Then the NUC rebooted and went to the normal Linux login screen. I logged in and checked the BIOS version; it was still the original version, not the new one.

I've done this twice. Any suggestions?

If you think the only/best solution to create a DOS boot disk and run the update from that, it would help to have a link to a page explaining how to do that for newbies.

Thank you!
