How to power the NUC8I7HNK with only 12 volts?

$

Previous NUC systems could be powered with anything from 12 to 19 Volts; some even with 12 to 24 Volts.

According to the Technical Product Specification the NUC8I7HNK needs +19.5 (±10%) V.

Is there a way to run it on 12 Volts? Maybe, by connecting the power somewhere on the inside i.s.o. using the connector on the back panel? I believe this was possible with earlier NUCs.

NUC8i7HVK - No Undervolting Enabled

I recently bought NUC8i7HVK and the CPU runs really hot.

I've disabled Turbo Boost for now but this is no solution in the longer term.

My Question: Why aren't we allowed to undervolt CPU Vcore?

Can you please fix this with a bios update?

It seems I have a trouble with my new nuc..

Usually lights on front panel looks like this:

Power LED - blue

first indicator : red blinks (mostly only when i record something on ssd)

second indicator - no any lights

third indicator - always green.

However, today when I turned on my nuc, second indicator now constantly blinking with green light. So now i have now 2 green lights on front panel and middle one constantly blinking with 1 second delay. I've changed nothing in my system in the last days, there is no info about this blink code online and i don't know what this means and what i should I do with my nuc in this situatuition.

Please help.

Intel NUC5i7RYH - Akasa Fanless Case

$

I work from home and needed a solution for the excessive noise produced by the factory CPU cooling fan on the NUC5i7. I ended up going for an Akasa Plato X Slim fanless case for Intel® NUC Core i7 board (A-NUC23-M1B). It is fantastic, about 2" flat and four-times the size of the original case. That part doesn't bother me (size) because it fits the 2.5" 500GB SSD too and I now have silence.

For some, the extra cost ($150) on top of the cost for the NUC, memory, hard drive(s) may not be acceptable. For others the size may not be acceptable either. I did the math and looked at QuietPC and several others for replacement fans and after an exhaustive search, I decided on this option.

The disassembly of the original NUC and putting the motherboard, memory, hard drive(s), and wireless antennas into the Akasa case, was simple for me. However, if you've never taken a PC apart and replaced a cooling fan on the CPU, then I recommend you seek out a professional to do this. I might add that the MOBO on the NUCs are sturdy and easy to work with.

The only "extra" I needed was a plastic pry tool, similar to this. (Note: pictured below is not a NUC5i7).

maxresdefault.jpg

Also, the instructions that come with the Akasa fanless case are multi-lingual and very challenging to follow.
I used these two videos (not a NUC5i7, but close enough and very helpful).

NUC7i5BNK external Thunderbolt3 drive freezes

Hi,

I'm running Windows 10 on my NUC7i5BNK. I just installed an external G-Drive Thunderbolt-3 12TB drive, formatted NTFS with the G-Tech format software. When I copy large files to the drive (5GB size), write speed slows way down then eventually the NUC freezes or crashes. Small files copy fine. I've tried copying from internal and other external drives (USB 3.0), same problem.

I just installed the most recent BIOS 0065 and it didn't fix the problem.

I see a Firmware update called Thunderbolt 3 controller firmware update tool. Not sure if this will help, but this won't install! Instructions say  browse to the folder where you unzipped the downloaded file, select the firmware .bin file, and then click Next.

But there is no .bin that I can see. I've tried loading each of the enclosed files but none work, I get a really weird error: Offset and length were out of bounds for the array or count is greater than the number of elements from index to the end of the source collection.

Here's what I see available - I'm looking for a file with a .bin extension and don't see anything. Please help!!

I recently updated my BIOS to 0044, and since the update my Bitlocker no longer functions and I have to enter a recovery key on each boot.

I have since suspended Bitlocker as per Technet forums (suspend and resume to fix bootup issues), and I cannot resume with the error "A compatible Trusted Platform Module (TPM) Security Device cannot be found on this computer".

GPU throttling on NUC8i7HVK

I am seeing GPU throttling in games, e.g. Destiny 2. On a cold boot, I get 60 FPS options for 1440p and down. Which is fine. And actually remarkable for this tiny computer.

If you play a while, and quit. And re-start, I notice the game defaults to 30 FPS, which is not acceptable.

I have Ballistix 32GB RAM (at 2666 enabled via XMP). And 512GB Saming 970 Pro nVMe. No overclocking has been done on CPU, I tried GPU, but I get a crash almost immediately. All I need is 60FPS, and I'm happy. Which is achievable without OCing.

Please help. I like the box, and would love to keep it if I can maintain the frame rates.

International warranty FAQ for NUC6i7KYK

So, I am need of this particular NUC model for my client, but it is not available at my local market. I will have to import it from US via Amazon/NewEgg. Will the warranty still be applicable in my home country for an imported unit ? As these units are pretty compact, finding a local technician to repair them in case of any fault, will be difficult for me. Will the local Intel office honor the warranty and issue RMA for repair ?

NUC 6 overheating since 2 months

Hi!

I have a Intel NUC-Kit i7-6770HQ 2.6GHz Iris Pro Graphics 580 NUC6I7KYK that I bought in September 2016.

The machine has been running perfect for 1.5 years, but since 2 months I am having overheating issues.

In bios the settings were balanced, but the machine started crashing frequently and on reboot it would show me "thermal trap".

I checked cpu load, and I am at 5% cpu load, so this should not be the issue.

I now have changed the bios, so that the fan runs at full speed all the time, which helps the situation, but now the machine

is very loud, and even with full fan speed, it crashes once a day, and then has to cool of for 30 minutes.

I have updated the bios to the latest version; this did not help.

I am running Manjaro Linux (which is based on ARCH) and which installed all intel drivers correctly.

I am really not doing any gaming, or other cpu intensive tasks, and I have not changed anything in the past 2 years.

What can I do?

Thanks!

NUC5i3RYK - Can't boot from USB thumbdrive - legacy OR UEFI

$

Hello everyone.  I have searched and read just about every post I can find about problems booting from USB sticks, but I can't seem to solve the problem on my Nuc.

Specs: Nuc Box says NUC5i3RYK; Bios says "Desktop Board NUC5i3RYB"; Bios Version: RYBDWi35.86A.0369.2018.0305.1050 (latest); 8GB RAM; M.2 SSD.  Machine boots just fine from the SSD and operates normally.  But booting from a USB stick is a different matter.

In BIOS, both UEFI and Legacy boot are enabled; Under boot conf, USB and OPTICAL Boot devices are checked; secure boot is disabled.

When I plug in a USB Thumb Drive to boot from (Linux, Acronis Backup, Spinrite, etc), I get NO legacy boot options on the F10 screen.  The drive will appear as a UEFI device: "UEFI  :  USB  :  UEFI  :  USB  :  USB DISK 2.0 PMAP  :  PART 0  :  OS Bootloader  : PART 0".  If I select that, I get about a half second black screen, then I'm returned to the F10 boot options screen to try again. I have confirmed that all the thumb drives I have created will boot okay on another machine, so the drives appear to be okay.  I can, however, boot from a Legacy USB CD-ROM drive without issue.

Also, when in BIOS, no boot drives show under the legacy screen, even when one is plugged into the USB port.

I have toggled just about every setting I can find in the bios that relates to booting or to USB. I have also tried the USB sticks in every USB port on the Nuc.  I have also done an F9 Bios reset to defaults without any success.  Can anyone steer me in a good direction on this?  Thank you in advance...

NUC7i5BNH: No HDMI playback audio devices in Sound Control Panel, NUC hardware defect?

I want to play back audio via HDMI cable on the NETWORK STEREO RECEIVER Onkyo TX-L20D.

I had a look on this article "No Audio Through My HDMI Cable". But I didn't find any HDMI playback device in my sound control panel, even though the NUC and the Onkyo are connected via HDMI cable. This cable is working properly between the Onkyo and a TV screen.

I have already reinstalled the Intel display driver, here you can see an extract of the Detailed-System-Report.html.

NUC8i7HVK: Replacement Power Supply/Brick/Adapter?

$
0
0

So, I just ordered an NUC8i7HVK, and would like a second power brick to save lugging it around all the time (home<-->office)...

No love at Intel® NUC Spare Parts yet :-(

From review pics I see the NUC comes with a Lite-On brand power supply, model "PA-1231-12".

The Technical Product Specification states that's a 19.5v/11.8A (230w) power supply with a DC "barrel" style plug having 7.4mm/OD 5.0mm/ID shell (ground) and inner 0.8mm (19.5v) contact.

So, the question then becomes, where to get one?

I can't find anyone selling identical Lite-On power supplies directly online?

There seem to be a variety of laptops using similar power supplies. It's worth noting that Lenovo uses a "PA-1231-12LA" (note the additional "LA" on the end) model with an incompatible square plug.

Interestingly, the tech spec also states:

The kit has a power sensing circuit that Manages CPU power usage to maintain system power consumption below 230 W. It is recommended that you disable this feature (via BIOS option) when using an AC-DC adapter greater than 230 W.

Which makes me wonder if trying to find one of the 280w power supplies MSI specs for their gaming laptops might yield a performance increase (at least for a burst until you hit the TDP wall)?

Anyhow, searching Amazon yields an HP branded one ("HSTNN-LA12"), and one from Delippo, so I'm wondering if I should give one of those a shot?  I just want something reliable that won't fry my NUC, but the marketplace for these things sure is sketchy :-(

D53427RKE - Multiple reboots daily

$

Details:

D53427RKE

8GB Micron Memory

128 Intel SSD

Windows 10

My NUC is on 24/7 running Weather and IPcam software.

It has been mainly fine for a long time.

A week or so ago I noticed something amiss.

Upon checking the Windows event viewer I see that it is restarting up to 10 times a day.

Nothing else obvious is reported in the event viewer.

Enabled writing a system dump, but 'WhoCrashed' app never reports anything, no dump to read.

I disabled restart upon system failure to see if I could see anything on 'screen' ( I remote into it via AMT/vPro)

Still, the resets happen, I was remoted in when it happened and nothing, the screen goes black with no warning and system rebooted.

I looked in the AMT Event Log and notice this:

Operating system lockup or power interrupt.

It is reported every 2 minutes until a reboot.

Sometimes it will reboot again within 10 minutes, sometimes it will go a few hours.

Have done 'clean' boots into Windows to try and rule out software or drivers but nothing seems to make a difference.

Anyone got any thoughts?

Could it be Power Supply related? Memory?

I didn't make any changes around the time it started so I don't think it is software or driver related.

I suppose Windows could of updated, not sure.

NUC7I3BNK impossible 4k@60hz with new amazon cable

$

Hi everyone,

I bought a NUC7I3BNK for my TCL U55P006P. But I can use it at 60HZ. The software block the 60hz at 1920*1080, if I try to put it in 4K, I can only select 30hz.

I read that can come from my HDMI cable, so I bought a cable that can be use in 4k@60hz but nothing change, I'm still block at 30HZ.

  • Compatible avec le standard HDMI 2.0 (Vidéo 4K à 60Hz, 2160p, profondeur de couleur 48 bits/px) qui supporte une bande passante jusqu'à 18 mbps et est compatible avec les versions antérieures.

(That said that the cable is HDMI 2.0 and work at 60HZ in 4k.

(This one AmazonBasics Câble HDMI 2.0 haut débit Compatible Ethernet/3D/retour audio [Nouvelles normes] 0,9 m: Amazon.fr: High-tec…  )

So I go check the specs on my TV, all HDMI are 2.0b. I update my hdmi driver to the version 1.72, I update the drivers for the chipset and video.

I dont know what to do now?

Thank you for your help

no boot device after power fail

$

Hi,

My Nuc7i5bnk is working correctly but I have one issue.

If I enables "power on" after power fail in the bios settings my NUC doesn't see my "Kingston sa1000m8" drive. When u press the power button and turn the machine off and on the device is working correctly.

When i hit F2 after power fail my drive isn't listed. I tried it with UEFI boot and Legacy boot. But that doesn't make a divergence, no boot device after power failure.

Updatet the bios to the latest version, but still not working.

Wake-up from RTC is working.

Any ideas how to solve this?

Kind Regards,

Matthijs
