Win 10 errors and boot problem – NUC7PJYH

$

Hi,

I have my NUC installed with the recommended RAM (KVR24S17S6/4) and 250GB Samsung EVO860 SDD.

After the installation process was over I got many erorrs like "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart."

In addition, after restarting I encounted many times the Recovery windows "It looks like windows didn't load correctly"

or just the NUC got stuck on login screen (pre-desktop window). See images below.

To make sure it's not the WIN 10 installation that causes the problems, I installed it few more times from two USB memories.

I also tried both the pre-installed BIOS 0027 version and the updated BIOS 0037 version with similar outcomes...

Then I attempted some more solutions I found on the internet:
1.Installed updated drivers from Intel website: Ethernet,Display, Wifi and Bluethooth.
2. Updated the Windows thru Windows Update.
2. Ran Win 10 Memory Diagnostic Tool.
3. Checked the Local disk (C:) for Errors. 4. Ran Deployment Image Servicing and Management and then the  System File Checker tool (SFC.exe)

After completing each of the above stages it seems that get rid of one blue screen error just to get a new one.

First it was KERNEL SECURITY CHECK FAILURE, then MEMORY MANAGEMENT later PAGE FAULT IN NONPAGED AREA,

and now it's the WHEA UNDETECTABLE ERROR

The only thing that got somewhat better is that the NUC is not getting stuck as often after reboots on login screen

Any idea what is the problem and what can I do? or should I assume it's a faulty NUC and replace it?

Thanks

NUC8i7HVK - What is the best fan control settings?

$

Hey guys, just got my Hades Canyon yesterday and I find some werid behaviour about the fan and temperature.

For example, when it's on idle state, the fan is very quiet that I barely can hear. but as soon as I open a software or even open a folder, the fan kicks in and it's very audible.

I open up XTU and find out the CPU temperature would go stright up to 70C - 80C, and drop down to normal temp(40C-50C) rapidly. So the CPU basiclly jump up and down in a large range.

I checked the default cooling options in BIOS, find that minimum temp is about 60 (can't remember exact number), so everytime the cpu goes up above that temp, the fan would kick in with high speed. Is there any time-based options for fan setting? for example if the CPU temp goes above 60C, can I set the fan to speed up only if the CPU temp stays above 60C for 5 seconds or 10 seconds, so the fan won't speed up unnecessarily?

I know for now the best solution may be change the minimum temperature to about 70-80C to avoid some fan kicking in, but a time-based settings would be cool.

anyone can share some good cooling settings for Hades Canyon? thanks

Why NUC8i7HNK is much more hot than NUC8i7HVK in stress test?

I made some stress tests for NUC8i7. I found NUC8i7HNK is very easy to reach the max temperature (100℃) in stress test but NUC8i7HVK is never over 90℃.

So I can not understand that NUC8i7HNK 65W TDP is lower than NUC8i7HVK 100W TDP and they have the same cooler. Why NUC8i7HNK is much more hot than NUC8i7HVK?

here is the NUC8i7HNK test result: the temperature reach to 100℃ very quickly in 10 seconds.

NUC8i7HVK fans speed control - resonating

$

Is there any possibility to set uneven speed for fans? At some point of speed they start to slightly resonate which cause unnecessary increase of noise. If it goes beyond this speed it is back again more quiet.

I would rather want to avoid stuff like Low Noise Adapters so software/bios control will be better (if possible)

Thanks

What I get out of our NUC Community is both the formal (Intel responses) and informal collaborative discussion environment created and monitored by Intel and other great minds.

We can explore the thought process of evaluating, fixing, and improving our experience with our NUCs. That kind of insight makes the community richer by providing subscribers more "sounding boards" to validate hunches about how stuff works when most of us do not have  detailed technical designs / schematics / knowledge of the system design. Our community provides an opportunity for Intel to understand if a problem is isolated to an individual, a production run, or a more systemic issue that requires a driver or three update and BIOS mods. All normal stuff if you ask me. There's more ... what we get in return, has incredible value if you are interested in discovering the solution or simply looking for a button to press to make it better.

We actually get the opportunity to reverse engineer through the diagnostic and testing process and gain insight to the design reasons and trade-offs that remain a staple of systems engineering. Sometimes it's a swarm response (those are great - collective knowledge), sometimes a single response, but most often the right response is there. So when I ask a question I get to say which answer worked the best for the situation.

It also seems that Intel genuinely wants to help solve problems and, when it requires a more private discussion, you receive an email to continue dialog. I think that part of of the Intel support model is the best part of my entire experience here. Knowing that someone will reach out if it needs to go to the next level.

NUC7i7DHNE vs CPU SPECS - An HDMI Question?

$
0
0

According to Intel Stats:

The NUC7i7DHNE  has this output

Intel® NUC Kit NUC7i7DNHE Product Specifications

Dual HDMI 2.0a, 4-lane eDP 1.4

But the ARK for the i7-8650U CPU has this contradictory spec

Max Resolution (HDMI 1.4)‡ 4096x2304@24Hz

Intel® Core™ i7-8650U Processor (8M Cache, up to 4.20 GHz) Product Specifications

The Ark makes no mention of HDMI 2.0a.

So how does the NUC have HDMI 2.0a when the CPU itself only allows HDMI 1.4?

How is the HDMI output greater (60Hz) on the computer than HDMI on the CPU (24Hz)?

Does the NUC7i7DHNE output 4K at 60Hz or 24Hz?   Have you merely modifed the DP
capacity of the CPU to go into the HDMI port?

Is the output of the HDMI  4K@60Hz?

Finally, if it is higher output, can it be back compatibility run by cable to an older monitor?

Thanks!

NUC8i7HVK - Error: BIOS has detected unsuccessful post attempt(s)

Hello together,

my name is Oli from Germany and I have recently purchased a NUC8i7HVK. I use it with a Samsung 970 Pro and a 960 Evo and 2x 16GB Crucial Ballistix Sport 2400 (BLS16G4S240FSD).

I also have a Skull Canyon for about 2 years now and I was so convinced of it that I thought, I need the successor now.

I have installed Win10 Pro and everything seems to work so far, except for one thing that I have not gotten fixed yet.

Every time I reboot the NUC, the Intel NUC-startup-screen appears for a short time, then it turns off completely (lights off) and immediately comes back again to the NUC-screen, followed by a message:

"Error: BIOS has detected unsuccessful post attempt(s). Possible causes include recent changes to BIOS. Performance Options or recent hardware change. Press Y to enter Setup or N to cancel and attempt to boot with previous settings"

I haven't done any changes, but the message appears anyway. If I then press N or either Y and go to the BIOS and save, it starts again 1x normally. The whole thing does not occur on complete shutdown and manually switch on again, but as I said only with reboot. Although I can disable the message with the help of "Disable Failsafe Watchdog" in BIOS-settings, but the "double" reboot with 2x NUC startup-screen and short off in between, still remains. I also have tried different BIOS-versions, but it's still the same. I would be glad if someone could tell me if this behavior is known or what I could still try to do about it or if it could possibly be a malfunction.

Thanks in advance

Oli

NUC8i7HVK: Replacement Power Supply/Brick/Adapter?

$

So, I just ordered an NUC8i7HVK, and would like a second power brick to save lugging it around all the time (home<-->office)...

No love at Intel® NUC Spare Parts yet :-(

From review pics I see the NUC comes with a Lite-On brand power supply, model "PA-1231-12".

The Technical Product Specification states that's a 19.5v/11.8A (230w) power supply with a DC "barrel" style plug having 7.4mm/OD 5.0mm/ID shell (ground) and inner 0.8mm (19.5v) contact.

So, the question then becomes, where to get one?

I can't find anyone selling identical Lite-On power supplies directly online?

There seem to be a variety of laptops using similar power supplies. It's worth noting that Lenovo uses a "PA-1231-12LA" (note the additional "LA" on the end) model with an incompatible square plug.

Interestingly, the tech spec also states:

The kit has a power sensing circuit that Manages CPU power usage to maintain system power consumption below 230 W. It is recommended that you disable this feature (via BIOS option) when using an AC-DC adapter greater than 230 W.

Which makes me wonder if trying to find one of the 280w power supplies MSI specs for their gaming laptops might yield a performance increase (at least for a burst until you hit the TDP wall)?

Anyhow, searching Amazon yields an HP branded one ("HSTNN-LA12"), and one from Delippo, so I'm wondering if I should give one of those a shot?  I just want something reliable that won't fry my NUC, but the marketplace for these things sure is sketchy :-(

Intel NUC Kit NUC7PJYH USB 3.0 Disconnection Problem

I purchased Intel NUC Kit NUC7PJYH with Intel Pentium® Silver J5005 Processor and I'm experiencing problems using USB 3.0 with Mediasonic ProBox 4 Bay 3.5' SATA HDD Enclosure – USB 3.0 & eSATA (HF2-SU3S2) Link: Mediasonic .The problem is the constant disconnection. Even my external Seagate 4TB backup PLUS (have own power supply) disconnects, different 3.0 cables. I confirmed this because I have Threadripper PC and my External Seagate 4TB doesn't disconnects.

It disconnects when doing large file transfers (gigabit speeds) and when using Plex. Now I'm using USB 2.0 extension cable and it doesn't disconnects but my speed is slow (USB 2.0). Is there a driver fix for this USB 3.0 bug? I tried all the ports in the intel nuc all have same symptoms. Hope Intel fix this.

NUC8i7HVK - Green light blinking

It seems I have a trouble with my new nuc..

Usually lights on front panel looks like this:

Power LED - blue

first indicator : red blinks (mostly only when i record something on ssd)

second indicator - no any lights

third indicator - always green.

However, today when I turned on my nuc, second indicator now constantly blinking with green light. So now i have now 2 green lights on front panel and middle one constantly blinking with 1 second delay. I've changed nothing in my system in the last days, there is no info about this blink code online and i don't know what this means and what i should I do with my nuc in this situatuition.

Please help.

LED issues

$

I've got problems with the LED's not turning off after (what I think is a) Windows 10 Pro Auto Sleep feature, its not all LED's either, Front LED 1 and 2 works as expected, but the rest (Power Button, Skull, Eyes and Front LED 3) gets stuck in the last configured state after this happens, after installing the latest BIOS, with some hassle by underclocking the RAM, an hard power reset (unplugging the power) seems to solve this issue and its also the only thing that solves it, even though it's pretty annoying when it happens. Does anyone else have this? The Windows LED configure tool think it changes the LED's but nothing happens with the mentioned LED's, changing Front LED 1 & 2 works however. Even if I try to sleep, hibernate or shut down the device completely from Windows the LED's are still on after this happens.

Also, is is normal that the chassis seems to have a small gap that makes the led create a stripe of light underneath the unit like this?

The LS-PCon converter chip on Dawson Canyon?

$

It was written on another post:

Original Article
Let me share with you that the Intel® Core™ i7-8650U indeed only supports HDMI* 1.4 will allow 4K @24Hz however, by using an LS-PCon converter chip, it is possible to support HDMI* 2.0/2.0a as a result, 4K @60Hz will be achieved. Please find this information on the processor's datasheet,

How does this LS-PCon converter work?

Does it up the data stream?

Or does it merely take 1 frame from the 24 fps, and extend it over 2.5 frames on the 60fps? To put it simply are we getting a true 60fps, or merely a modified 24fps spread over 60 fps?

How does one get an 4-lane eDP 1.4 out of the NUC7i7DHNE without there being display ports on the mobo?

Or am I reading this wrong and all we are talking about is data rates?

Could I use a USB 3.0 to DP adapter?

The reason this is being asked is that I am considering a NUC7i7DHNE to do small 10 minute video with Adobe Premiere Elements. Nothing really heavy.

Intel Hades Canyon : NUC8i7HVK : Windows 10 : How can I get it to play back HDR 4K HEVC 10bit content?

$
0
0

Hello Nuccers,

I had a Skull Canyon and ran into issues with the Intel GPU not supporting playing back Bluray 3D content (iso files)  and that it also never supported HDR. When I heard about Hades Canyon, I thought, "Fantastic! An Intel NUC with a decent GPU which should be able to deal with HDR etc.,".

I got the unit last Friday, installed everything easily and then set about trying to get it to playback HDR content. A few details about where I am currently:

1. The unit is connected to my TV an LG OLED55E6V (2016) using one of the HDMI ports on the back of the unit.

2. The OS is Windows 10 Pro, fully activated, fully updated.

3. In Windows 10, in the display settings I have HDR toggled on (HDR & WCG).

4. Upon enabling this I have a washed image on the TV screen. The TV correctly reports a HDR flag, but all the colours look washed out.

5. Looking in the Radeon driver settings, I noted that using the colour mapping BT2020 has washed out colours, but swapping to BT709 leads to colours on the desktop which I consider normal. I have been informed the BT2020 is the correct colour setting for HDR...... (in any case the driver does not save the setting and everytime you reboot it defaults to BT2020.)

6. In the Radeon driver settings, suspiciously under colour depth, I only had 8 bit enabled and available. The screen was being driven at 60Hz and I remember reading somewhere in the past that my LG screen from 2016 can only support 10/12bit colour depth at 30Hz and below, so have currently set the refresh rate manually to 24Hz and now have 10 bit colour enabled. Still looks washed out......

7. So Windows 10 is telling me that HDR is enabled and the TV also shows me the HDR flag correctly.

8. In terms of trying to play back content, I initially used MPV, but after some testing realised it only supports SDR content, after investigating more it would appear there are some options which might work:

          a. Cyberlink PowerDVD 18 Ultra - I upgraded a license I previously had, but it stubbornly refuses to playback HDR content, it would appear from checking other forums that HDR support is limited to Nvidia cards and (irony alarm) Intel GPUs. It plays back SDR content.

          b. Microsoft films and TV - In my case it just produces a black screen......

          c. MadVR + MPC - I have not tried this, this setup is far too fiddly and involves changing registration settings to get from the right settings for SDR to HDR and back again depending on what content you want to playback.

          d. VLC 3.0+ - Tried this and it just seemed to playback content in SDR.

So I cannot get the unit at this time to playback HDR 4K HEVC 10 bit content. This is not the end of the world for me, I currently use an AppleTV with Infuse and that is producing amazing looking content, but I have always had a Windows HTPC and hoped to be able to continue that trend.

Any ideas? Am I trying to do something that the unit should be able to or not be able to do? Am I jumping the gun and need to wait for the Vega drivers to mature a bit? Or for AMD 4K support to properly come online? I read the following:

AMD's PlayReady 3.0 In Polaris, Vega GPUs, APUs to Enable 4K HDR Streaming on PC | TechPowerUp

Thanks for any input.

NUC7I5BNK Wireless adapter dissappear from devices in Windows 10 after reboot.

Hello community, I have purchased a brand new NUC7I5BNK few weeks ago and just started to play with it, so far, the installation of Windows 10 and Linux (Lubuntu) worked pretty fine, I have upgraded Windows with the latest updated, installed all the drivers from the official Intel support website and everything looked fine.

Unfortunately, the day after I installed everything I powered on the NUC and realized the Wireless adapter just dissapear from the device manager, so I did some troubleshoot, I have uninstalled the driver and then rebooted, the wireless adapter appeared again so I tried again installing the latest release (20.50.0) and it worked fine for a while. Once again, after some reboots, the wireless adapter dissapeared, I did more troubleshoot, installing a previous driver (20.30.1), did the same without luck until I realized the wireless adapter was in a disabled status in the Network Connections panel, once again, it worked for a while until I rebooted the NUC few more times.

At this point, I just decided to start playing with linux as that was going to be the mainly used SO of the NUC, it worked fine for a while too until I experienced exactly the same behavior, the adapter just dissapear after few reboots.

I also upgraded the BIOS to the release 0064 without luck, any SO (Windows 10 or Lubuntu) sometimes detects the adapter and sometimes they don't, I have not played around for a long period of time, so I cannot assure the adapter runs fine during hours of working, I only see the issue after rebooting the NUC, and it is quite annoying as sometimes even after many reboots, the adapter just does not appear.

I strongly believe there is a hardware issue, but open to hear any suggestion.

Thanks in advance.

NUC7i7BNH - optane issue

Today morning I found my NUC power LED lighting blue, not sure what woke it up.
But switching the TV to NUCs HDMI didn't work, it said something like the device is not connected.
So I had to power off the NUC by pressing the power button for 10s or so.

After that I could only see:
Checking media presence.......
No booting media present (or similarly)
... whenever I tried to power it on.

After entering the BIOS I could see just 2 Network booting options, nothing else.
Under the Devices\SATA I could see my SSD.
Under Devices\PCI it said M.2 Slot Not Populated.
In the RST config on the PHYSICAL DISK INFO screen I could see the option "Reset to non-optane", which I was affraid to use before I do a backup image of my SSD. Below this option there was also details about my SSD.
All were fine but the Status said "Disabled" and Controller Type was AHCI, which is strange because the Devices\SATA screen says RAID and not AHCI.

I wanted to do the disk image on the NUC, but it never saw the SSD while being conected to SATA, so I have decided to remove it and use a USB2SATA cable and did the image outside NUC on other PC.

When I came back after half an hour to NUC and mounted the disk and attached the power again, it booted to windows with no issue.
Only issue is that the Intel Optane Memory app says that my system is ready but no Intel Optane memory modules were detected.

In the BIOS I can see an entry "UEFI:SATA:PORT1:Windows Boot Manager:PART1:OS Bootlo..."
Under Devices\PCI it still says M.2 Slot Not Populated.
There is no more the option "Reset to non-optane" in the RST config on the PHYSICAL DISK INFO screen.
Status now says "Non-RAID" instead of "Disabled".
Conroller Type is still AHCI.

What could be wrong?

thanks for any hint

Hi, I have problem with my NUC7i3BNK Intel wireless-ac 8265 module. My WiFi adapter stop working after about 2 weeks since I bought it. At first time it stoped working after (re)boot and became inactive in Device Manager. I've updated BIOS, reinstall Windows 10, updated drivers and it start working normaly as before. But in few days after next boot WiFi it was inactive again. I try to reinstall drivers, delete it from Device Manager - and it dissapeared totaly and nothing helps - seems that there are no such devices in PC and WiFi device is not detectable by any programm and device install masters. I tried to reinstall Windows, update drivers but It is not visible in Device Manager. Same situation with Bluetooth Device.

In BIOS all devices checked.

I connect NUC with wired Ethernet cable to router - everithing work nice without any problems.

Please help me with correct actions for NUC WiFi reanimation.

Thanks in advance.

My HNK wont recognize my Samsung CHG70 Monitor...HELP!!

I have tried 3 different HDMI cables, hooked it up to a tv through HDMI, switched the RAM to a different port (ensured it was seated properly), called Intel to go through all the troubleshooting steps, and none of that has worked. I had a replacement nuc sent out and that has the same issues.

The ram I am using is Ballistix Sport DDR4-2400 SODIMM 1.2v (BLS16G4S240FSD)

I recently bought a DP to MiniDP cable to try that and that also did not work.

How do I get this thing to show some kind of boot menu on my brand new 32" Samsung CHG70 Monitor?
