NUC8HV blue screened and then stopped powering up

Exactly what the title says, I brought a brand new NUC home yesterday and now it won't boot after ~ 1hr of use. All I did was put in the SSD/Memory, installed Windows 10 and then I installed all the device drivers. After about 5 minutes of use the device blue screened and powered down. Then after it shut down it would no longer power back up. I've reseat the SSD and memory, discharged the device and power brick over night and it still won't power back on. I don't have another power brick to try and have moved it between no less than 4 outlets. I've even removed the SSD and memory and it still won't power up.

Any thoughts?

Hello,

Microsoft wants me to upgrade Windows, but when I try to do this the NUC complains about not having enough memory. The built-in SSD is only 30GB, but I have added a 120GB SATA SSD.

I have removed all applications, and all douments, photos, videos etc.

What more can be done?

NUC7i7BNH USB-C to DP stop working after firmware update

Hello,

I have a NUC7i7BNH connected to a HDR monitor Samsung LC32HG70 via USB-C (Thunderbolt3) to Displayport cable. It was originally working but lacks HDR on DP. Recently I found the thunderbolt firmware update ver.33 that features HDR support for DisplayPort over Thunderbolt. However after completed the update, my monitor doesn't work anymore with the same USB-C to Displayport connection. I didn't even able to see BIOS screen nor Windows logo during boot time. Unfortunately I didn't keep record what was the original thunderbolt firmware version...

At about the same time, I have updated BIOS to 0066 as well. Already followed all the steps to reset factory default settings but didn't help.

I do still have HDMI work properly with HDR. However, I have two game consoles both connect HDMI hence use up all available HDMI ports on my Monitor. I still strongly wish to get DP works again with HDR enabled.

Many thanks!

Teddy

NUC8i7HVK + Dell U3818DW

The Dell curved U3818DW is a multi-input 38"

Image result for DELL U3818DW

(UltraSharp 38 Curved Monitor: U3818DW | Dell )

Ports and Slots:

1. AC power connector | 2 and 3. HDMI connectors | 4. DP connector (in) | 5. USB Type-C port | 6. Audio line-out port | 7 and 8. USB upstream ports | 9. USB downstream port | 10. USB downstream port with power charging

I have the NUC8i7HVK connected via the TB3 out to the monitor USB Type-C port (#5) and my work computer connected via the Display Port (#4).

The very cool feature of this monitor is the built-in KVM switch if you want full-screen either computer or side-by-side both via the PIP/PBP setting.

NUC Power settings:

Never sleep

Never hybernate

Problem Statement

When I switch to the work computer and work for any length of time and switch the monitor back to the NUC, sometimes the monitor will not wake. Note: sleep, hibernate all switched off

I think the monitor stops sending signal to the NUC when I'm switched to the work laptop. Perphaps its more likely that the NUC can't detect the monitor signal on the TB3 when it is switched over to the work laptop.

When that happens I have to unplug/re-plug on the back of the NUC, and re-seat. Wakes up every time.

It's only annoying when it happens, but what I'm not sure is if the Dell U3818DW is the reason (also has latest firmware) or the NUC. Would appreciate your input.

SSU log attached. I haven't noticed it (yet) on BIOS 0048. It "seems" to have happened more in BIOS 0046, less in BIOS 0047.

audio echo on hd audio device (hades nuc), bios fails to post dragons

We have several of these in service and they all exhibit this behavior. Plug in a nice pair of headphones, and the audio output to the jack sounds like it has a weird echo/reverb. All drivers up to date using Intel tool. All mic inputs disabled.

I am wondering if BIOS forgot to disable line in and the dangling pins are receiving crosstalk from adjacent playback and mixing it back in. Anyone else have this issue?

Hi, I want to replace the rtc battery of a NUC6CAYH, but when I open the NUC, I cannot find the battery. Is there a document describing the procedure to replace the rtc?

Thanks in advance.

NUC7i5BNK Win10x64 Shutdown Problems (energy saving, hibernate or normal shutdown)

Hi,

I own the following Setup:

- Intel NUC7i5BNK

- Samsung 960 Evo M.2 SSD 500 GB

- Crucial DDR4 8 GB Single (CT8G4SFD824A)

- Windows 10 x64 1803

- latest Drivers from Intel Website

- latest BIOS

Since about 1 Month I have an issue by shutting down Windows. It happens in energy saving, hibernate and normal shutdown. Its totally weird. So where do I start to tell you......

- Power on - Windows booting everything okay

- Energy Saving by pressing on/off in Start menu and choosing "energy saving" - NUC is going to energy saving mode

- wake up the nuc by pressing Power Button or Mouse/Keyboard works and I can use Windows

- 2nd time energy saving, hibernating oder power down does not work. The Monitor Displays went black, Windows is "off" and the nuc is already on (fan is on). I can push the power button for a longer time and the nuc is off but is starting after 2-3 seconds so I have to press the power button again for a longer time.

No Windows Errors in log files, no error dumps (minidumps). Its totally weird.

What I did:

- changing RAM from 1st to 2nd Place

- used native Power Supply

- downgraded Graphics Driver for a test

- switched off most USB-Devices that are connected (except Keyboard/Mouse)

- deselected "Quick Start" in advanced energy options

I also restored a Windows 10 Image from March 2018 after I did the initial Setup which has worked until July 2018.

Nothing helped.

Is there anybody who has similar problems???

Regards,

Esteban

NUC8i7HVK (LED has stopped to work)

I own this NUC for about a month and eveything was fine until now.

Today, when I turned on my nuc, almost all the led lights didn't worked. Even the light on power button and skull.

I've tried to reset bios but no luck.

For some reason the only lights that currently working are first two on the front panel. I can turned them on and off in the led manager, but other lights not react on any settings.

I've never updated bios in my nuc and didn't not installed any new software in the last weak.

NUC6i7KYK USB-C connected Monitor prevents computer from powering down

TLDR: There is an issue with Microsoft Windows that prevents the NUC from powering down.

I recently upgrade my Intel NUC6i7KYK (Skull Canyon) with some RAM, 2 SSDs and triple Monitors which required using the USB-C port for DP output. Everything works great, except that occasionally I noticed when powering down the computer, Windows would shutdown, monitors would go to sleep, but the NUC's power light and Fan would remain on. This would force me to hold down the power button in order to power it down. After some lengthy troubleshooting I narrowed it down to, this behavior would only occur when the Monitor was plugged in to the USB-C port. And yes, I searched Lycos and Netscape and there are no solid leads regarding this issue.

Hardware specs:

  • NUC6i7KYK
  • 2x 16GB Kingston HX421S13IB/16 RAM
  • 2x 250GB Samsung MZ-V6E250BW NVMe drives in RAID 0
  • 3x Dell U2412M monitors
  • various monitor cables and peripherals.

Shorten version of lengthy troubleshooting:

  1. Installed Windows 10 1709 and 1803 with latest Drivers and Firmwares.
  2. Disabled Windows fast startup power feature.
  3. Power drained the Computer and Power brick for 24hrs in several occasions.
  4. Swapped a bunch of parts (including RAM and SDD) and upgraded SSD firmwares.
  5. Swapped Peripherals when I noticed the USB-C port was the culprit.
  6. Tried USB-C/HDMI adapter with a HDMI/DVI cable, and USB-C/DVI cable.
  7. Tried different configurations in the BIOS regarding the USB ports and Thunderbolt controller.
  8. Threw Windows out the Window and installed Linux, works perfect! Problem solved.

Steps remaining to be troubleshooted:

  1. Perform further BIOS configurations but started to lose track of the combinations.
  2. Try a different monitor/cable combinations except that Linux fixed it.
  3. Try a USB-C device such as a harddrive.
  4. Have a professional Intel technician/developer look into the matter is what I'm hoping for.

In conclusion, I suspect this might be a Windows Driver issue, possibly some power control feature that is preventing the NUC from entering an S5 power state. I'm not a technician, but I hope this helps someone at Intel narrow it down.

PS. Thanks for fixing the other driver issue regarding the NIC, still waiting to try it because of this issue.

Failures of Intel(R) Display Audio on NUC

$

I'm having a terrible time with HDMI on my new NUC. Hours of searching and research have revealed others having similar issues, but those threads always seem to end without resolution. Frustrating.

I have the NUC7i5BNK J31144-309 HDMI port connected to an HDMI 2.0 port on a new LG43UD79 4K monitor 3840x2160 30Hz, Win10 display scaling either 100% or 150%. The NUC BIOS is updated to latest BNKBL357.86A.0063.2018.0413.1542, and I have tried setting the BIOS default display to either AUTO or HDMI. I have simultaneously removed both drivers, rebooted, and let Win10 re-install them. They are the latest available (April 6) versions including Intel(R) Iris(R) Plus Graphics 640 version 24.20.100.6025 and Intel(R) Display Audio version 10.25.0.5.

My NUC is set never to sleep. Whenever the monitor is blanked and turned off, or if the input source on the monitor is switched to another computer, there is no audio when the monitor is restored. The volume control system icon reliably has a red 'x' on it, and there is no corresponding playback device. Going to the Device Manager for Intel(R) Display Audio and using Disable followed by Enable sometimes resolves the issue. Other times, a reboot is required.

This is evidently a long term problem that has not been addressed by Intel but should be easy to reproduce. I also have the problem of all windows getting shrunk to the upper left all the time, but the audio problem is pretty much a show stopper for trying to replace my 8-year-old old Win10 tower with a NUC. System Support Utility output is attached. I could really use some suggestions for things I haven't tried yet.

Thanks,

Curt

Best external GPU with Intel NUC (Hades Canyon)

Anyone have suggestions on the best eGPU unit to use with Intel NUCs through the thunderbolt port?  I tried the Razor CORE product but it failed miserably.  It didn't help that it was 11 pounds and bulky either.

Any tips on tested units would be great.  I plan on putting NVIDIA 1060 in them.

Disable 2381 Intel Display audio

NUC7i5BNH, Audio Devices mysteriously going missing.

I have had all kinds of issues with audio, mainly lost audio devices. Tried all kinds of stuff. After a lot of testing I can say:

Disable 2381 Intel Display audio, and all your problems will be gone.

At first I thought it was an issue with Realtek Audio but it's not.

I'm not even sure what 2381 Intel Display audio is supposed to do, the only thing that happens when I disable it is that all audio issues disappear.

In sound settings I select what audio is output goes to what device and everything works great.

NUC8i7HVK can not enter power button menu

I have intalled windows 10 in my NUC, then I installed linux in other partitions.

After that, I found that I can not enter bios or any operating systems.

I think that the bios may be broken, so I try to recover the bios.

However, I can not enter the power button menu. After pressing the power button for 3 seconds, there's nothing on the screen.

Sorry, my English is poor.

Hi

Just set up a NUC7i5BNH running Windows 10 Pro (x64), all good except for a missing driver listed in Device Manager as 'Detection Verification' under 'Other Devices'. Hardware ID has a value of:

{DD8E82AE-334B-49A2-AEAE-AEB0FD5C40DD}\DetectionVerification

Grateful if someone could let me know what this is and point me in the direction of the driver download.

Many thanks

NUC won’t boot

Hi,

my company just bought more than 20 NUCs for our customers ( NUC7i3DNHE, Intel 180GB SSD, Kingston DDR4 8GB RAM), we tested each, everything worked fine. So we send them to our customers. After few days they started calling to our support that they can not start the NUC (when they press the button, NUC wont turn itself on - the led indicator stays off). We started investigating what could cause this problem. First we found It might be because of sleep mode, than we find out that the led indicator does not even blink when NUC is off or when NUC is in hybration mode. We thought it may be because of Windows settings, so we set in Windows ”go to sleep after time” to “never”. Unfortunatelly that did not help.

I’ve gone trought a lot of forums and I have found a solution, but when some grave pit have to stop selling for 10 minutes, It is not good, they are losing money and we are losing reputation. So I’m trying to ask you.. Do you know what could cause this problem? Or how to simulate it? Because we could not even simulate the problem. It already happend on 4 NUC machines (some of them have W7, some of them W10 - happend on both).

NUC6CAYH SA-00088

I updated the NUC6CAYH to latest bios AYAPLCEL.86A 0047 that has new microcode to protect against INTEL-SA-00088 vulnerabilities

Windows Registry Settings

FeatureSettingsOverride = 0

FeatureSettingsOverrideMask = 3

Q4beG9m2.png

Before the AYAPLCEL.86A 0047 bios update (0045 in my case) everything under CVE-2017-5754 [roque data cache load] was displayed in green using the Get-SpeculationControlSettings Powershell script provided by Microsoft.

Does this mean that after the AYAPLCEL.86A 0047 bios update the "software" fix from Microsoft to protect against Meltdown is not needed anymore? Or can anyone explain me why this is now again displayed in red?
