NUC8i7HVK + Dell U3818DW

The Dell curved U3818DW is a multi-input 38"

Image result for DELL U3818DW

(UltraSharp 38 Curved Monitor: U3818DW | Dell )

Ports and Slots:

1. AC power connector | 2 and 3. HDMI connectors | 4. DP connector (in) | 5. USB Type-C port | 6. Audio line-out port | 7 and 8. USB upstream ports | 9. USB downstream port | 10. USB downstream port with power charging

I have the NUC8i7HVK connected via the TB3 out to the monitor USB Type-C port (#5) and my work computer connected via the Display Port (#4).

The very cool feature of this monitor is the built-in KVM switch if you want full-screen either computer or side-by-side both via the PIP/PBP setting.

NUC Power settings:

Never sleep

Never hybernate

Problem Statement

When I switch to the work computer and work for any length of time and switch the monitor back to the NUC, sometimes the monitor will not wake. Note: sleep, hibernate all switched off

I think the monitor stops sending signal to the NUC when I'm switched to the work laptop. Perphaps its more likely that the NUC can't detect the monitor signal on the TB3 when it is switched over to the work laptop.

When that happens I have to unplug/re-plug on the back of the NUC, and re-seat. Wakes up every time.

It's only annoying when it happens, but what I'm not sure is if the Dell U3818DW is the reason (also has latest firmware) or the NUC. Would appreciate your input.

SSU log attached. I haven't noticed it (yet) on BIOS 0048. It "seems" to have happened more in BIOS 0046, less in BIOS 0047.

7I5BNK Blue Screen

We nave four 7I5BNK's that have been purchased over the last year. These are out of a batch of 20.  All of them Blue Screen at times.  Most Blue Screen shortly after the first login for the day.  If they have been running for a while they do not blue screen.  The Bugchecks are never the same.  When this first started happening we choose one of the first two to do extensive testing on.  Ran Memcheck on it for a couple of days without any errors found.  We then replaced the complete NUC and all hardware and that did not resolved the problem. We did find on that one if we disconnected the Ethernet cable and added a usb ethernet cable the issue almost went away. We suspected that particular unit was affected from our networking setup as the network connection comes through the desk phone.  We have had that in the past with one of our desktop computers.  We put in a Network Card in the desktop and stopped using the Network Jack on the Motherboard and those issues went away.  Now we have purchased more of these units and yesterday one of the new batch blue screened.  I immediately added the USB Ethernet jack and again first thing this AM it Blue Screened.  In Checking it our tech hear someone else mention theirs had done this yesterday also.  I have tried to keep them on the latest Bios, however we did not use 65 one these since there was no EB for it.  The Tech who was setting these up did not have the skills to use the other methods.  I will try to get 65 installed on them this week.  I will also use the Intel Driver Update Utility to see if any other drivers are out of date.  The installer was supposed to use only the latest Drivers that I had downloaded for them.

NUC7i7BNH USB-C to DP stop working after firmware update

Hello,

I have a NUC7i7BNH connected to a HDR monitor Samsung LC32HG70 via USB-C (Thunderbolt3) to Displayport cable. It was originally working but lacks HDR on DP. Recently I found the thunderbolt firmware update ver.33 that features HDR support for DisplayPort over Thunderbolt. However after completed the update, my monitor doesn't work anymore with the same USB-C to Displayport connection. I didn't even able to see BIOS screen nor Windows logo during boot time. Unfortunately I didn't keep record what was the original thunderbolt firmware version...

At about the same time, I have updated BIOS to 0066 as well. Already followed all the steps to reset factory default settings but didn't help.

I do still have HDMI work properly with HDR. However, I have two game consoles both connect HDMI hence use up all available HDMI ports on my Monitor. I still strongly wish to get DP works again with HDR enabled.

Many thanks!

NUC7PJYH - BIOS-related glitches

$

Most of the glitches I experienced with NUC7PJYH were in (or directly related to) BIOS. So I decided to collect them in a single thread.  Here they are:

1. Turning on Startup Sound in BIOS:

  • Thermal Trip error during boot:
  • All sound devices disappear from Windows.

More details in NUC7PJYH - Turning on Startup Sound in BIOS. The HORROR

2. Saving profile in BIOS and restoring it after BIOS update:

  • A bootable device has not been detected error

More details in Re: NUC7PJYH - BIOS updating options.

3. POST Functions Hotkeys are not shown on NUC splash screen.

  • Initially I had them, but very soon (after some changes in BIOS settings or a BIOS update) they were gone. Then after some BIOS update they appeared again, but shortly after that disappeared.  Note "POST Functions Hotkeys Displayed" was always Enabled.

I would not call it an issue "per se", but, I suspect, it reflects some hidden problems.

4. When "UHD Color" is enabled on Samsung 4K TV and HDMI port is labeled as PC:

  • No NUC logo during POST - TV says "No signal"
  • Not able to get to BIOS: when I press F2 during POST - TV still says "No signal". I guess it reaches BIOS, but shows nothing. When I short-press power button on NUC - it shuts down.

More details in Re: NUC7PJYH - No signal on Samsung 4K TV when HDMI UHD Color is ON

5. When connected to HDMI 2.0 port of Samsung 4K display:

  • When I press F2 during POST (NUC logo shown) and enter BIOS - screen freezes. When I short-press power button on NUC - it shuts down.

More details in Re: NUC7PJYH - No signal on Samsung 4K TV when HDMI UHD Color is ON

Did anyone else experience similar issues?

I'm afraid that my BIOS settings are corrupted. BIOS recovery (through Power button menu) and loading BIOS defaults (F9) do not seem to have any affect, at least on 3 and 4 (I did not try to reproduce 1 and 2 anymore).

So, is there any way to "Reset" BIOS data?  Or do I need to replace the NUC?

Thanks for any help,
Peter

audio echo on hd audio device (hades nuc), bios fails to post dragons

We have several of these in service and they all exhibit this behavior. Plug in a nice pair of headphones, and the audio output to the jack sounds like it has a weird echo/reverb. All drivers up to date using Intel tool. All mic inputs disabled.

I am wondering if BIOS forgot to disable line in and the dangling pins are receiving crosstalk from adjacent playback and mixing it back in. Anyone else have this issue?

What is the definitive answer on HDR for NUC7CJYH ?

I see two different answers on HDR support for the new Gemini Lake NUCs. One Intel rep says it will have support, another says it will not. Intel marketing materials say the NUCs support HDR.

So which is it? Is this support coming or will it not be supported?

NUC7i5BNK Win10x64 Shutdown Problems (energy saving, hibernate or normal shutdown)

Hi,

I own the following Setup:

- Intel NUC7i5BNK

- Samsung 960 Evo M.2 SSD 500 GB

- Crucial DDR4 8 GB Single (CT8G4SFD824A)

- Windows 10 x64 1803

- latest Drivers from Intel Website

- latest BIOS

Since about 1 Month I have an issue by shutting down Windows. It happens in energy saving, hibernate and normal shutdown. Its totally weird. So where do I start to tell you......

- Power on - Windows booting everything okay

- Energy Saving by pressing on/off in Start menu and choosing "energy saving" - NUC is going to energy saving mode

- wake up the nuc by pressing Power Button or Mouse/Keyboard works and I can use Windows

- 2nd time energy saving, hibernating oder power down does not work. The Monitor Displays went black, Windows is "off" and the nuc is already on (fan is on). I can push the power button for a longer time and the nuc is off but is starting after 2-3 seconds so I have to press the power button again for a longer time.

No Windows Errors in log files, no error dumps (minidumps). Its totally weird.

What I did:

- changing RAM from 1st to 2nd Place

- used native Power Supply

- downgraded Graphics Driver for a test

- switched off most USB-Devices that are connected (except Keyboard/Mouse)

- deselected "Quick Start" in advanced energy options

I also restored a Windows 10 Image from March 2018 after I did the initial Setup which has worked until July 2018.

Nothing helped.

Is there anybody who has similar problems???

Regards,

Esteban

USB device limitation on NUC7iBNH

I have a NUC7iBNH and I want to connect more than 64 USB devices. I tried to disable the xHCI from the BIOS but I didn't see any feature there, also I used "lspci -H1 -d xxxx:xxxx d0.l=0" command on the Ubuntu to disable the feature but it is not working also. Is it any way to upgrade the number of USB devices to 127? or is it any way to add a USB BUS to that?

NUC7i5bnk freezes randomly (latest drivers)

Hello everyone,

I´m new to the forum and I hope someone could help me, I´ve been struggling with this NUC since day one.

My setup is:

- NUC:                          NUC7i5bnk (slim version)

- OS:                             Windows 10 Pro 1803

- Storage:                    Samsung 970 EVO 250GB - NVMe PCIe M.2 2280 SSD (MZ-V7E250BW)

- External Storage:     Seagate Portable USB Device 1TB (USB (SATA) )

- Memory:                    2 x Crucial 4GB Single DDR4 2400 MT/S (PC4-19200) SR x8 Unbuffered SODIMM 260-Pin Memory - CT4G4SFS824A (8GB Total)

Drivers:

BIOS:                                                   BNKBL357.86A.0065.2018.0606.1639 (latest)

Intel® Driver & Support Assistant:   Your Intel® software is up to date.

Storage:                                               Samsung NVME Controller 3.0.0.1802, Samsung Magician Firmware up to date

The problem is that sometimes the NUC would randomly freeze (even if its iddle doing anything) and the only way to make it work again is by manually turning the device off and then on again.

Sometimes its a matter of days, other times hours.

So far I have done these tests:

1. Run Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool:           Results OK

2. Run Memory Diagnosics from Windows 10:   Results OK

3. Clean reinstallation of Windows 10 Pro (over 3 times)

I´m attaching the SSU Scan Information as well as the Proccessor Tests.

If anyone can help me I´ll be forever grateful

HDMI issues (no video signal)

My NUC Skull Canyon keeps losing HDMI video connection. If I try to log in as a different user (say, I reboot the system, log in as user X, then try to log in as user Y), after entering credentials, the screen goes blank and my TV shows that there is no HDMI connection. I need to unplug HDMI cord from either TV or NUC, and then plug it back to get video restored. It started happening recently. I tried using a different HDMI cable (brand new, different brand), but it did not help. I have all the latest Windows 10 (x64) updates and as of writing Intel Driver Assistant shows no available updates. Any ideas?

NUC8i7HVK will not turn on after turned off for a period of time

$

Hello all,

Sorry for the trouble, I have just picked up a brand new NUC8i7HVK on 7/25 and absolutely loves the performance.

Out of the box I have updated the BIOS to the latest 047 and have had no issue at all running.

However, if I leave the NUC turned off for more than a day or so(not exactly sure how long, as so far it only happened twice)

the NUC does not turn on at all by pressing power button. I had to unplug the power supply plug at the back and plug it back in then

everything is back to normal. I can turn on and off without issue, it is only when the unit has turned off for a period of time.

The skull and power button LEDs also had a similar issue but only happened once so far. They did not turn on if the unit has turned off for a period of time and

only will work again when I unplug the power supply plug and re-plug again. It kinda feels like they had to be "reset". But the NUC did turn on that time, only

the above mentioned LEDs stayed off. Not sure it could be related but I thought I would mentioned it anyway.

Right now I have reset the BIOS to default setting and turned the NUC off to test how long before it won't be able to turn on again.

Could this be power supply related? I have also moved to a different plug on the surge protector to test. Other than this, it works without any issue.

Thanks in advance for the help.

NUC6i7KYK USB-C connected Monitor prevents computer from powering down

TLDR: There is an issue with Microsoft Windows that prevents the NUC from powering down.

I recently upgrade my Intel NUC6i7KYK (Skull Canyon) with some RAM, 2 SSDs and triple Monitors which required using the USB-C port for DP output. Everything works great, except that occasionally I noticed when powering down the computer, Windows would shutdown, monitors would go to sleep, but the NUC's power light and Fan would remain on. This would force me to hold down the power button in order to power it down. After some lengthy troubleshooting I narrowed it down to, this behavior would only occur when the Monitor was plugged in to the USB-C port. And yes, I searched Lycos and Netscape and there are no solid leads regarding this issue.

Hardware specs:

  • NUC6i7KYK
  • 2x 16GB Kingston HX421S13IB/16 RAM
  • 2x 250GB Samsung MZ-V6E250BW NVMe drives in RAID 0
  • 3x Dell U2412M monitors
  • various monitor cables and peripherals.

Shorten version of lengthy troubleshooting:

  1. Installed Windows 10 1709 and 1803 with latest Drivers and Firmwares.
  2. Disabled Windows fast startup power feature.
  3. Power drained the Computer and Power brick for 24hrs in several occasions.
  4. Swapped a bunch of parts (including RAM and SDD) and upgraded SSD firmwares.
  5. Swapped Peripherals when I noticed the USB-C port was the culprit.
  6. Tried USB-C/HDMI adapter with a HDMI/DVI cable, and USB-C/DVI cable.
  7. Tried different configurations in the BIOS regarding the USB ports and Thunderbolt controller.
  8. Threw Windows out the Window and installed Linux, works perfect! Problem solved.

Steps remaining to be troubleshooted:

  1. Perform further BIOS configurations but started to lose track of the combinations.
  2. Try a different monitor/cable combinations except that Linux fixed it.
  3. Try a USB-C device such as a harddrive.
  4. Have a professional Intel technician/developer look into the matter is what I'm hoping for.

In conclusion, I suspect this might be a Windows Driver issue, possibly some power control feature that is preventing the NUC from entering an S5 power state. I'm not a technician, but I hope this helps someone at Intel narrow it down.

PS. Thanks for fixing the other driver issue regarding the NIC, still waiting to try it because of this issue.

Hi

Just set up a NUC7i5BNH running Windows 10 Pro (x64), all good except for a missing driver listed in Device Manager as 'Detection Verification' under 'Other Devices'. Hardware ID has a value of:
