nuc7i7bnh ethernet hangs on ubuntu

$

Hi,

I've just installed a new NUC 7i7BNH with ubuntu 18.04 (first installation of this NUC...) and the ethernet port hangs (drop packets ?) very often. I can see it when pinging the router where the NUC is connected to (loosing more than 35% packets over an hour). I've changed the cable/switch port but the issue is still here.

I think the bios is the last one :

Here is the information:

Intel desktop board : NUC7i7BNB

Bios version : nbkbl357.86A.0066.0724.1832

processor : Intel(r) code(tm) i7-7567U cpu @ 3.50GHz

installed with 32G RAM + 2 SSD (one sata, one M2)

Any idea ? Software ? Hardware ?

NUC8i7HVK - Monitor not waking up from sleep

Hello,

I am having a similar issue that another user has posted a few days ago about.

I have a dual monitor set up with an Intel NUC8i7HVK on Windows 10. All drivers are downloaded and updated from the Intel site.

One of the 2 monitors does not wake up from sleep or a reboot. None of the monitor's power or other physical buttons work, but when unplugged from power and restarted it connects well.

I tried:

Using different thunderbolt port, HDMI ports, uninstalling and reinstalling both - the Intel HD and the Radeon Rx drivers. This continues to be an issue.

Thank you for your help,

NUC8i7HVK-Replacing TIM and thermal pads, worth it?

Hi,

So, i'm thinking to replace both the thermal paste and pads on this (incredible) neat machine. I don't plan to overclock but achieving the best thermal results instead (undervolting and replacing thermal interface materials).

Has someone done it who could share some results ?

Thanks.

I have the NUC8i7HVK connected via the TB3 out to the monitor USB Type-C port (#5) and my work computer connected via the Display Port (#4).

The very cool feature of this monitor is the built-in KVM switch if you want full-screen either computer or side-by-side both via the PIP/PBP setting.

Problem Statement

When I switch to the work computer and work for any length of time and switch the monitor back to the NUC, sometimes the monitor will not wake. Note: sleep, hibernate all switched off

I think the monitor stops sending signal to the NUC when I'm switched to the work laptop. Perphaps its more likely that the NUC can't detect the monitor signal on the TB3 when it is switched over to the work laptop.

When that happens I have to unplug/re-plug on the back of the NUC, and re-seat. Wakes up every time.

It's only annoying when it happens, but what I'm not sure is if the Dell U3818DW is the reason (also has latest firmware) or the NUC. Would appreciate your input.

SSU log attached. I haven't noticed it (yet) on BIOS 0048. It "seems" to have happened more in BIOS 0046, less in BIOS 0047.

NUC7i5BNK Win10x64 Shutdown Problems (energy saving, hibernate or normal shutdown)

Hi,

I own the following Setup:

- Intel NUC7i5BNK

- Samsung 960 Evo M.2 SSD 500 GB

- Crucial DDR4 8 GB Single (CT8G4SFD824A)

- Windows 10 x64 1803

- latest Drivers from Intel Website

- latest BIOS

Since about 1 Month I have an issue by shutting down Windows. It happens in energy saving, hibernate and normal shutdown. Its totally weird. So where do I start to tell you......

- Power on - Windows booting everything okay

- Energy Saving by pressing on/off in Start menu and choosing "energy saving" - NUC is going to energy saving mode

- wake up the nuc by pressing Power Button or Mouse/Keyboard works and I can use Windows

- 2nd time energy saving, hibernating oder power down does not work. The Monitor Displays went black, Windows is "off" and the nuc is already on (fan is on). I can push the power button for a longer time and the nuc is off but is starting after 2-3 seconds so I have to press the power button again for a longer time.

No Windows Errors in log files, no error dumps (minidumps). Its totally weird.

What I did:

- changing RAM from 1st to 2nd Place

- used native Power Supply

- downgraded Graphics Driver for a test

- switched off most USB-Devices that are connected (except Keyboard/Mouse)

- deselected "Quick Start" in advanced energy options

I also restored a Windows 10 Image from March 2018 after I did the initial Setup which has worked until July 2018.

Nothing helped.

Is there anybody who has similar problems???

I'm trying to separate the optane memory from my NUC7i7BNH on the optane forum it tells me to look in the NUC forum for help in finding how to deconcatenate the optane in my bios.

I want to remove the optain and install a new 960 pro M2 SSD rather than accelerate my HDD.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

USB device limitation on NUC7iBNH

I have a NUC7iBNH and I want to connect more than 64 USB devices. I tried to disable the xHCI from the BIOS but I didn't see any feature there, also I used "lspci -H1 -d xxxx:xxxx d0.l=0" command on the Ubuntu to disable the feature but it is not working also. Is it any way to upgrade the number of USB devices to 127? or is it any way to add a USB BUS to that?

8i7HVK Nuc - 1 of 3 monitors doesn't turn on after sleep, windows on wrong screen

$

I have 3x 4K monitors at 60Hz connected to 8i7HVK Nuc.

When wake from sleep - say in the morning after going to Start / Sleep the night before - one of the monitors doesn't turn on. I have to press the power button and re-select Display Port as an input - then it comes on.

This only started happening a few weeks ago - when I first got this Nuc all monitors turned on correctly.

Further - when waking from sleep - windows are all moved around onto different monitors.

All displays are confirmed at 4K@60Hz - 2 connected via mDP to mDP - and the third (the one that wont automatically come on) is Thunderbold 3 to DP.

(I've tried HDMI on the non working monitor - but it doesn't seem to support 10-bit colour - and I think DP is a better standard that I'd rather use in any case).

This is extremely bad and irritating and is massively disrupting my work.

I have the latest Radeon graphics driver from this page:

Downloads for Intel® NUC Kit NUC8i7HVK

18.5.1 (13 Jun 2018)

My monitors:

LG 27UD68P-B

LG 27UD58-B (this is model that wont turn on after sleep)

DELL P2415Q

When will you fix this? It seems Nucs always have substandard graphics drivers - I'm hearing from other users with similar issues.

Thx.

NUC7i5bnk freezes randomly (latest drivers)

Hello everyone,

I´m new to the forum and I hope someone could help me, I´ve been struggling with this NUC since day one.

My setup is:

- NUC:                          NUC7i5bnk (slim version)

- OS:                             Windows 10 Pro 1803

- Storage:                    Samsung 970 EVO 250GB - NVMe PCIe M.2 2280 SSD (MZ-V7E250BW)

- External Storage:     Seagate Portable USB Device 1TB (USB (SATA) )

- Memory:                    2 x Crucial 4GB Single DDR4 2400 MT/S (PC4-19200) SR x8 Unbuffered SODIMM 260-Pin Memory - CT4G4SFS824A (8GB Total)

Drivers:

BIOS:                                                   BNKBL357.86A.0065.2018.0606.1639 (latest)

Intel® Driver & Support Assistant:   Your Intel® software is up to date.

Storage:                                               Samsung NVME Controller 3.0.0.1802, Samsung Magician Firmware up to date

The problem is that sometimes the NUC would randomly freeze (even if its iddle doing anything) and the only way to make it work again is by manually turning the device off and then on again.

Sometimes its a matter of days, other times hours.

So far I have done these tests:

1. Run Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool:           Results OK

2. Run Memory Diagnosics from Windows 10:   Results OK

3. Clean reinstallation of Windows 10 Pro (over 3 times)

I´m attaching the SSU Scan Information as well as the Proccessor Tests.

If anyone can help me I´ll be forever grateful

NUC6i7KYK USB-C connected Monitor prevents computer from powering down

$

TLDR: There is an issue with Microsoft Windows that prevents the NUC from powering down.

I recently upgrade my Intel NUC6i7KYK (Skull Canyon) with some RAM, 2 SSDs and triple Monitors which required using the USB-C port for DP output. Everything works great, except that occasionally I noticed when powering down the computer, Windows would shutdown, monitors would go to sleep, but the NUC's power light and Fan would remain on. This would force me to hold down the power button in order to power it down. After some lengthy troubleshooting I narrowed it down to, this behavior would only occur when the Monitor was plugged in to the USB-C port. And yes, I searched Lycos and Netscape and there are no solid leads regarding this issue.

Hardware specs:

  • NUC6i7KYK
  • 2x 16GB Kingston HX421S13IB/16 RAM
  • 2x 250GB Samsung MZ-V6E250BW NVMe drives in RAID 0
  • 3x Dell U2412M monitors
  • various monitor cables and peripherals.

Shorten version of lengthy troubleshooting:

  1. Installed Windows 10 1709 and 1803 with latest Drivers and Firmwares.
  2. Disabled Windows fast startup power feature.
  3. Power drained the Computer and Power brick for 24hrs in several occasions.
  4. Swapped a bunch of parts (including RAM and SDD) and upgraded SSD firmwares.
  5. Swapped Peripherals when I noticed the USB-C port was the culprit.
  6. Tried USB-C/HDMI adapter with a HDMI/DVI cable, and USB-C/DVI cable.
  7. Tried different configurations in the BIOS regarding the USB ports and Thunderbolt controller.
  8. Threw Windows out the Window and installed Linux, works perfect! Problem solved.

Steps remaining to be troubleshooted:

  1. Perform further BIOS configurations but started to lose track of the combinations.
  2. Try a different monitor/cable combinations except that Linux fixed it.
  3. Try a USB-C device such as a harddrive.
  4. Have a professional Intel technician/developer look into the matter is what I'm hoping for.

In conclusion, I suspect this might be a Windows Driver issue, possibly some power control feature that is preventing the NUC from entering an S5 power state. I'm not a technician, but I hope this helps someone at Intel narrow it down.

PS. Thanks for fixing the other driver issue regarding the NIC, still waiting to try it because of this issue.

NUC7i7DN Bitlocker + Hardware SSD encryption = OPAL password prompt on every boot??

I have a BLKNUC7i7DNH1 and enabled hardware encryption on my 860 EVO.

Now, every time I turn on or reboot the computer, the UEFI firmware asks for an Admin password. I hit enter a few times, and then it asks for a User password. I hit enter a few more times, and I get a UEFI error message saying the drive can't be unlocked and something about "OPAL". Then Windows 10 Pro boots up normally.

I am using UEFI BIOS firmware version 0049.

Performance of Samsung SSD 970 EVO 1TB on NUC5i7RYB

$

I have just installed a brand new Samsung SSD 970 EVO 1TB consumer drive into my 2½ year old Intel NUC5i7RYB.

When I read the SSD data sheet I get to expect sequential read performance about 3400 MB/s and sequential writes about 2500 MB/s. However, the actual performances scores I read out from Samsung Magician are only about half (1525 MB/s and 1507 MB/s):

Samsung Evo 1TB performance.PNG

I am using the default Windows 10 NVMe driver; BIOS version etc. are relatively recent (v369). This is my system summary:

Intel NUC system summary.PNG

I am aware of other threads in this forum with similar questions (such as this one: Performance problem with Samsung 970 Pro on NUC7i7DNKE) - but none with the exact same combination of NUC, O/S and SSD.

What can I do reach the advertised performance of my new Samsung SSD ?

Thanks,

/Thomas.

NUC8i7HVK crazy high temperatures

$

I set up my NUC8i7HVK today. Before installing OS I went to BIOS, checking various settings. Under Cooling - section I noticed that core temperature was 68C which seemed quite high to me because the computer was (naturally) idle. After installing OS I used RealTemp to measure core temperatures. For some reason the temperatures fluctuate wildly even under minor load, which in turn causes the fans to ramp up like crazy. And I am not talking about difference of few degrees, but going from 60C to 87C all of sudden.

I tweaked the fan settings to more “aggressive”, and at first it seemed that temps would no longer hit 100C (though they still went over 90C), but further testing proved my initial assumption wrong. Simply playing a game (which should not be very taxing for CPU) for few minutes was enough to get CPU temps to 100C again.

I am wondering, could it be that I have faulty cooling system or is the temperature sensor faulty? Anyone else experienced anything similar?

Running Intel processor diagnostic tool resulted the following:

Current Junction Temperature is 100C

Current Degrees Below Max       0C

Maximum Junction Temp Allowed  100C

Test Result - FAIL

NUC8i7HVK LED Manager bugs and requests

$

First a couple of minor bugs I've encountered:

1 - right clicking the tray icon to disable all sometimes doesn't work the first time. Also usually they all stay off but the 3rd front LED comes back on eventually, I have it set to CPU usage 1 colour.

2 - if I have a saved profile loaded and then change a colour, I can't reload the profile to undo the changes, the program has to be closed and restarted then it works.

A couple of questions I have:

1 - what exactly are the S0 and S3 tabs? The manual says they're power states, so is S3 for sleep / hibernate or something?

2 - where are saved profiles stored?

Also can we please get some more options, adding a menu to the tray icon to allow changing profiles would be really useful. When I've finished using the PC I like to turn the skull off but keep the front lights on, currently I have to disable all then bring the program up and load a profile when I come back. Being able to change profiles via command line might be useful too, or some other way of automating it using something like AutoHotkey.

Disable 2381 Intel Display audio

NUC7i5BNH, Audio Devices mysteriously going missing.

I have had all kinds of issues with audio, mainly lost audio devices. Tried all kinds of stuff. After a lot of testing I can say:

Disable 2381 Intel Display audio, and all your problems will be gone.

At first I thought it was an issue with Realtek Audio but it's not.

I'm not even sure what 2381 Intel Display audio is supposed to do, the only thing that happens when I disable it is that all audio issues disappear.

In sound settings I select what audio is output goes to what device and everything works great.

I have intalled windows 10 in my NUC, then I installed linux in other partitions.

After that, I found that I can not enter bios or any operating systems.

I think that the bios may be broken, so I try to recover the bios.

However, I can not enter the power button menu. After pressing the power button for 3 seconds, there's nothing on the screen.

Sorry, my English is poor.

NUC7i3BNK Windows 10 installation hangs

$

I  have a NUC7i3BNK with 8 GB RAM and a Samsung 960 EVO SSD. I want to install Windows 10 Home on it.

The installation starts properly but then gets stuck at 'Getting files ready for installation (%52)'.

Additional information:

1) I used the Windows Media Creation tool downloaded today for creating a bootable USB stick

2) I performed an F7 BIOS Update to the newest version (downloaded today)

3) I tried 5 times (also with different sticks) and the installation always stops at the same percentage (52%)

4) I was able to install Ubuntu properly, so I assume that the hardware is ok

Is there a way (e.g. a log file) to find out the reason for this failure? It must be something very specific and not random. Does this percentage value trigger any guesses?

Thank you
