NUC7PJYH - No signal on Samsung 4K TV when HDMI UHD Color is ON

$
0
0

When I turn on "HDMI UHD Color" for the input to which the NUC is connected, TV says "No Signal".  HDMI UHD Color is needed for 3840x2160 @ 60Hz with 4:4:4 chroma and presumably configures the HDMI port as 2.0. When the PC boots - no splash screen, no BIOS (after pressing F2).

If "HDMI UHD Color" is OFF, everything is fine, splash screen appears, and then BIOS (if I press F2). TV reports 3840x2160 @ 30Hz and the splash screen is apparently in 4K.

Similarly, in windows. When I switch to 60Hz (with "HDMI UHD Color" ON) I get black screen and then "No signal".

It looks like when the HDMI port on the TV is configured as 2.0, NUC sends it something, which the TV does not understand.

TV:  Samsung UE40MU6100 (similar US version: UN40MU6300).

Cable: AmazonBasics High-Speed HDMI Cable, 6 Feet or 3 feet - Meets the latest HDMI standards (4K Video at 60 Hz, 2160p, 48 bit/px color depth); supports bandwidth up to 18Gbps.

Thanks

Nuc Hades - Question of version

hi,

i bought an INtel NUC Hades yesterday - version is NUC817HVB  (CPU-Z tells it).

My question concerns this version-number: NUC817HVB - i wanted to get an NUC817HVK!

Does exists an B-Version?

GPU-Z shows me an information, which confuse me. Bus Width shows 256 Bit and the Bandwidth tells 51.2 GB/s.

K-Versions shows 1024 Bit Bus Width and more than 200 GB/s.

Thanks for your help - perhaps i'm gonna to send this NUC Hades back.

Thunderbolt 3 boot on Bean Canyon NUCs

$

Hi,

Is it possible to boot Linux and/or Windows from an external Thunderbolt drive e.g. the Samsung X5 or MyDigitalSSD Pocket Vault Express attached to the Thunderbolt port on Bean Canyon NUCs - NUC8i5BEK or similar? Or boot from a Thunderbolt storage enclosure such as the the OWC Mercury Helios 3?

From what I've read Thunderbolt should be close to a transparent pass-thru of PCIe 3.0 but the available documentation seems a bit ambiguous - there is BIOS support and options for Thunderbolt but I can't work out if booting of Linux, Windows or other OS is supported on the NUCs via Thunderbolt.

My application is fast and easy swapping of operating systems with no performance penalty. I currently use an older NUC 5i5MYHE with a sata to esata cable but it is a bit messy for on the road use (can't find a panel mount sata port that fits the NUC case well).

Thanks for your help,

Carl

Best Option for FAN in a NUC7i5BNH {silent please}

Hello,

when you start for the first time A NUC7i5BNH, the fan is not very quiet.

So the solution is to go the BIOS and set the parameter of the CPU Fan Header (Cooling).

Here is my preset. But the processor is average at 60°C, and goes to 92°C when the fan begin to run at his maximum speed...

Is it correct? Someone have better parameter ?

Thank you.

Skull Canyon (NUC6i7KYK) fan/blower noise fix

$

Hello,

I was experiencing a huge amount of blower/fan noise on my NUC6i7KYK.

It began 14 months after I purchased it, the fan blades inside were hitting the casing.

This is how I fixed it :-

First you must remove the bottom cover plate.

Now remove the black tape covering the blower/heat sink fins ( keep the sticky side clean from dust

you will need to put it back).

The blower is not connected to the fins.

There are only 2 screws holding the blower to the chassis, one is at 11 o'clock the other 5 o'clock.

Remove these 2 screws and keep in a safe place.

Now gently pry the blower with a thin screwdriver, it will come out easily.

Hold the blower by its sides only, not by the top or bottom.

Now clean the fins and the blower with compressed air or a small soft artists brush.

Hold the blower so the underside is uppermost, you will see a power cable, 3 thin metal arms

connected to a central disk with a white sticker on it.

Now you must find a coin the same size as the sticker (not bigger, must not touch the cable),

I live in England so I used a one pence coin.

Place the coin on a flat level surface, center the blower over the coin, sticker side down.

Press the blower down (hold by edges only) onto the coin for a few seconds, the coin will

level and balance the fan motor and lift the 3 metal arms a couple of millimeters.

The rotating blades inside will now not hit the casing.

Refit the blower and screw it down ( do not overtighten ) put back the black tape.

Refit the bottom cover plate.

I hope this method works for you, it worked for me and my Skull Canyon is quiet as a mouse

now even when playing games.

pps

I think the NUC6i7KYK develops the noise problem because over time dust accumulates

on the fins and the unit becomes very hot thus distorting the blower case or spinning

blades on the motors spindle.

Crimson Canyon SATA Connector

For the Crimson Canyon the SATA connector appears to be an 20 pin 0.5mm pitch straight FPC Header. Is there additional documentation available on this header which describes the mating connector, e.g., the manufacturer and part number?

I am not familiar with the type of SATA connector, is there an example of where it is used in another design?

Thanks,

Harry

CIR on NUC7CJYH dies after a few seoconds when boot into linux

$

Hello everybody,

I own a NUC7CJYH with the latest bios version 0039.

I have the problem that after booting into linux the CIR does not work after a few seconds.

OS: Debian Jessie or Debian SID

Kernel: 4.17.2, 4.17.1, 4.14.52

Driver: ite-cir

There is no error message (dmesg / journalctl) or an other notice. The ir codes are simply no longer registered (ir-keytable -t). Unloading all RC modules and reloading them will not help either. Just a reboot helps.

I'm not alone with this problem:

https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=298462&pid=2730976#pid2730976

On Windows, everything is fine.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

MCE Error on NUC7CJYH 0043 BIOS Update and CANNOT Revert Back

I updated NUC7CJYH BIOS from 0027 to 0043 today, got mce errors like what I've seen in the past when I updated to all the version after 0027, so I decided to revert back to 0027 but failed. It says the BIOS version does not match and aborted. I literally cannot revert back to any version before 0043 after this update, so I am currently locked to 0043 now.

I am running arch linux with kernel version 4.17.11-6-ck-silvermont

Installing ESXi on NUC8I7HNK - failing

$

I am trying to install ESXi 6.7 on a NUC8I7HNK -

I've tried several different BIOS versions and in both Secure boot and Non-Secure Boot.

Each time it fails after loading all of the ESXi going into the Interactive installation with the following.

On the screen

“Shutting down firmware services…..

Using “simple offset” UEFT RTS mapping policy”

The NUC is now locked up.

Would really like to get this working.

The NUC7 works fine but liked the NUC8 with the two NICs built into the motherboard.

Any ideas on what to try?

IGD Minimum Memory on NUC8i5BEK

$

Hi there,

I just got a new NUC8i5BEK system and updated to latest BIOS version BECFL357.86A. I was trying to modify the IGD Minimum Memory to a higher value to improve the graphics performance with my Linux system. However, I can only see "32 MB" and "64 MB" options in the drop down list.

BIOS.jpg

From the BIOS Glossary, I know that more options should be available. I have 32 GB main memory installed, so those options shouldn't be hidden because lacking of memory address space. Can anyone let me know that how to make those options available and set the "128 MB" as the IGD Minimum memory? Maybe it's a BIOS bug? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

NUC 7i3DNHE Questions about connect eDP a Flat panel display through edp interface

$

I have a intel miniPC NUC7i3DNHE, and I want to connect  a LG Flat panel display through edp interface(LP156WF6-SPA1,which Is in the official recommendation list, http://compatibleproducts.intel.com/ProductDetails?EPMID=122498) .

Question 1: I connect them with the following line order:

eDP.pngLG LCD.png

NUC eDP line order                                                                                                       LG LP156WF6-SPA1 line order

line order01.png

                                              connectjion line order

but with this order, the flat panel display is no response when i power on the NUC.

Then I find the eDP_pin32(BL_ENABLE) and eDP_pin33(BL_PWM_DIM) are in the low level(0V), so I connect LCD_pin22/23 with eDP_pin25/26(high level 3.3V), and power on the NUC again. At this time, backlight of the flat panel display is work, but the display is still no signal.

so I hope someone tells me where the problem is?

Question 2: why my NUC bios items are less than the NUC TPS?

Because I cann't let the flat panel display work properly, I think maybe something wrong with the bios setting. But only 2 items about flat panel display in the bios-->Devices-->Video.(right part of the pic)

IMG_20181001_184655.jpg

in the TPS, page 24/25, there are 5 items.

bios eDP.png

I guess Maybe the bios  hides the relevant settings automatically, becaues NUC failed to recognize display.

But how can i let the NUC recognize LP156WF6-SPA1?

LP156WF6-SPA1 Is in the official recommendation list, why bios cann't recognize it?

Well, after downloading the update (TBT_WIN10_64_17.2.71.250), installing it and rebooting the box the driver and support assistant is still showing me that i have installed Version 17.2.71.2 and an update is available. I have installed Version 3.2.0.9 of the Intel driver and support assistant.

NUC8i7BEH BIOS: POST function hotkeys displayed

$

Running BIOS version 48:

The BIOS POST function hotkeys are not displayed on boot regardless if the "POST function hotkeys displayed" checkbox is checked or not in the BIOS configuration.

screen cap 1.bmp

F2, F7, etc. do work properly when tapped during boot so this just seems to be an issue around the "Displayed" checkbox operation.

Anyone else see this issue?

Thanks!
