NUC6i7KYK - Iris Pro Graphic 580

$

Hello,

I am trying to set up a NUC6i7KYK with the Microsoft Surface Hub 84". The surface hub offers for such a case the replacement PC mode. The surface hub needs two video inputs (2x DP 1.2) streams to produce the wished resolution of 2160p at 120Hz (3840 x 2160 at 120Hz vertical refresh) (see: Connect other devices and display with Surface Hub  ).

I am using two cables to connect the NUC with the surface hub:

  • Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable
  • Thunderbolt 3 to DisplayPort adapter and DisplayPort cable

Is the NUC6i7KYK Intel Iris Pro Graphic 580 able to produce the video output formats? How do I have to configure the Intel graphics driver for this?

Cheers,

Eren

I can't install any OS on NUC5i3RYK because "unable to find a medium containing a live file system"

Hi all,

I created a live USB key: Lubuntu, Ubuntu, Linux Mint with Rufus, Windows 10 with its own media creation tool, none of them work. USB 3.0 may be the problem but the NUC I have has no USB 2.0 ports.

I connected the NUC to my laptop via an Ethernet cable to try to install the OS from the laptop but the NUC is not seen on the network (I don't know if I need to do anything special, I never connected anything else on my laptop via Ethernet).

Thanks for you help.

NUC 5i3 Not posting or booting or anything

Something wired just happened, I think my NUC is dead .

After my "Media-Setup"(wich is just a TV with a passively cooled NUC strapped to it) was unplugged and not Touched for a While(several Months) I wanted to start it again but nothing happened and I mean NOTHING no beeps no lights(power and network) no picture nothing.

Nothing was changed and it was not touched in Months. It was running fine 24/7 wit >70C temps for Months before it was shut down.

So I did the usual, resocket the RAM(tried the ram in a laptop and it worked fine), unplugged the ssd and checked the PSU but still nothing happened.

Then I removed the board and just plugged that in, then I at least saw the green power LED but still nothing happened when Ipressed the button.

Then I checked the button but that seems to be working acording to my Multimeter.

I then saw that if I press the Button for a long time (>20sec) sometimes the blue led would flash for a short time (>1sec) and sometimes the orange one too but it dod not correspond to any of the blinking paterns for the NUC.

I also tried different combinations of removing the BIOS battery and the jumper but to no avail.

This really sucks because I was looking forward to using my TV again after the whole Renovation thing and I also do not know if I can RMA it because of the Passively cooled case.

So does anybody know how I can fix it or if I can RMA it?

Also of I can RMA it do I send it to the Seller or to Intel directly and do I have to put it in the original case?

NUC5PPYH - PC restarts itself inadvertently after displaying a blue screen

Hello,

I bought in April 2016 mini PC kit Intel NUC5PPYH. I installed with 8GB memory, an SSD of 240 GB and Windows 10 pro 64 bit.

Since September I have the following problem:

The PC starts to slow down, hangs for a few tens of seconds and I cannot controm the PC. After doing this several times, the PC restarts itself inadvertently after displaying a blue screen (see photo attached).

After restarted, PC can not reboot and show me the next screen (see 2nd picture). So I have to turn it off and restart it manually by pressing the ON / OFF button.

To try to solve this problem, I checked the memory, hard disk, everything is OK, stopped automatic Windows update and updated the driver of the graphics card but that does not change and the problem remains.

Other information: I noticed that the problem was triggered about 45 to 60 minutes after the first start of the PC in the day. After the first restart, it recurs about every 10 -15 minutes about and therefore it is impossible to continue working.

What could you suggest to me to solve this problem. Does it come from the PC itself ? power supplies ? or from windows ?

Until I was very satisfied with the product but now I can not use it without fear of losing data as happened to me in recent weeks.

I really hope you will be able to help me.

Regards,

Dominique

NUC6i7KYK freezes but mouse still moves

Hi There

I am getting very frustrated with my NUC. I am running the NUC6i7KYK on Windows 10 with a Samsung 960 Pro 512GB and 2 x 8GB HyperX Impact DDR-4 RAM (2133 MHz). I have all the newest drivers intalled and I am running on the newest BIOS version. I have already reinstalled Windows, without success.

The problem I am experiencing are frequent freezes. However, I have never experienced this kind of freezes on any system before. Often, a certain program starts freezing at first while I can still more or less operate many of the others. However, if I open the task manager I can neither kill any program nor can I shutdown the system. If I do the latter, there is simply nothing happing. Generally, the issue becomes more severe the longer I try to enter other programs. More and more programs become unresponsive until none is working anymore. The only thing that always works up to the point of forced restart is the mouse. Anybody know what to do here? Or is the NUC simply broken?

Cheers,

Patrick

CMOS Clock Resets when device is unplugged?

I have a NUC5i5RYK.

Yesterday I was moving things around so I had to shut it down and unplug it while I rerouted some wires behind my TV. Upon powering it back up the CMOS clock told me it was reset. Okay.... I set it again and I tested by unplugging the device and it once again reset.

What could be the cause of that? The battery? But then my BIOS settings seem to be saved. Not sure what's going on here. I'm using the latest BIOS too!

NUC5i7RYH Iris Graphics Crashing/Freezing on some websites with Windows 10

$

I am experiencing  crashes/freezes on certain websites that contain embedded video. The NUC involved is model NUC5i7RYH running windows 10 64 bit. The freeze is total when it happens. Everything just stops working. There is no blue screen just a complete freeze. I have to power down to get the NUC working again. After much investigation I discovered that the culprit is the Iris 6100 graphics driver. I am using the latest version 20.19.15.4300 but the problem also occurred on previous version. When I change the driver to the Microsoft basic display driver the problem disappears. However, video and text with the microsoft basic display driver does not appear to be quite as good video as with the intel driver (and Windows 10 constantly "updates" the driver to the problem intel version). Hence, this is only a temporary fix or workaround.

I've  noted that this problem can be recreated by launching the Iris Graphics Control Center, selecting Video, then selecting Color Enhancement on the left side (the default) and  then under Preview selecting FilmModeDetection. As soon as I select FilmModeDetection the computer freezes. If I change the driver settings on this page to Full Range the FilmModeDetection option will sometimes run and some problem websites will load without crashing the computer immediately but they do eventually cause a crash so selecting the "Full Range" option does not appear to be a fix.

It would be nice if Intel could solve this issue. I expect others must be experiencing it as well. In fact, my searches have indicated a variety of problems with intel video (not just Iris) and windows 10.

NUC6i7KYK No HDMI signal/handshake

$

I just recently picked up a NUC6i7KYK and have it set up with Ubuntu 16.04 and been using it as a HTPC, though I have been having some issues with what I presume to be HDMI handshake issues.

The RAM/SSD I'm using are Crucial 16GB 2133Mhz (CT2K8G4SFD8213) and a Samsung 850 EVO (MZ-N5E250BW) and I am using the most recent 0042 BIOS revision.

The initial problems arose the first day I had it in that when I put the NUC to sleep/suspend it would not show video upon resuming. I started shutting it down completely instead, but now the problem is persisting in that from a cold boot it still refuses to send a handshake and my LG TV simply displays no signal. I have searched around for answers to this but keep finding issues with either old NUC's that were supposedly 'fixed' with BIOS updates, or issues unrelated to a simple lack of video signal. There should be absolutely no issues with cables or other hardware as everything works after a reboot. Manually selecting/re-selecting inputs, turning the TV on/off, and unplugging and reinserting cables have had no effect.  Only a full reboot has fixed it, and it's starting to seem that might not be a viable option for long.

I do know this to be an issue with the video signal, as I have my speakers plugged in to the headphone jack on the front, and using my media keyboard can adjust volume which makes the usual 'pop' of the Ubuntu volume indication noise, meaning the OS is running with seemingly no errors, I'm just not getting any video signal.

Any help is appreciated, as I spent a good bit of money on this thing and am kind of disappointed with this, as my old setup was working fine minus the age/state of the hardware.

Swapping SSD between two Intel NUC6i5SYH

Hi all,

I have two Intel NUC6i5SYH. I installed one M.2 SSD on one of the NUC, installed Ubuntu 16.04 on it, and I tried then to use that SSD on the other NUC. However, the other NUC is not able to boot and this gives the following error "Insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key". Any idea what the problem could be? I checked on the BIOS that the SSD is actually recognized and that the M.2 slot is enabled.

Thanks a lot.

Thunderbolt device not recognized through USB-C port

I am using a Nuc6i7kyk with Windows 10.

I have a Motu 828x audio interface that runs through Thunderbolt. The cable I am using is a Thunderbolt 2 cable and I have a Startech Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 adapter to plug into the USB-C connection. Motu have tested a Startech adapter with the 828x and it works. They advised that I should be able to just plug it in and it should work.

I have updated the drivers for the NUC and made sure I have installed the latest Thunderbolt software but the audio interface is not being recognized.

Any help would be appreciated.

NUC6i7KYK vs AsRock Deskmini 110

$

Hello to all,

I am torn between 2 choices to get a new PC

1. NUC6i7KYK

+ very compact

+ good CPU, from what I've read the performance is about -20% fron i7 6700 desktop CPU

+ good GPU, at least better than the one in desktop CPUs

- some reviews say that is loud and noisy and I plan on having it on my desk, near my monitor

- temperatures seem to be too high even on idle, speaking from reviews

- expensive

2. AsRock Deskmini 110 mini-stx system

+ possibility to add a desktop CPU up to 65W TDP with stock or aftermaket cooler

+ better cooling

- slower GPU, not a Iris Pro

- good price

Beside the barebone, there will be:

- 16 GB SoDimm DDR4

- Samsung 960 EVO M2 PCIe SSD 250 GB

So basically I can take the Intel NUC and have a good CPU and GPU but my main concern is the noise. On Deskmini I can put even a i7 6700 but I don't think that cooling would help in that case, however a i7 6700T can work and get the best of both worlds.

The machine is used 80-90% of the time for software development, so games don't really have any impact on my choice. Even so, the Iris Pro doesn't seem impressive in any way.

I'm curious on your advises. What should I choose? Thank you very much for taking your time to read my question.

Installing 16.04 LTS on Intel NUC6i7KYK fails: mmc0 unknown controller version (3)

I try to install Ubuntu 16.04 LTS on my NUC6i7KYK, but can't get it to work. This is what I have tried:

  • Created a bootable USB-sticj in various ways (UNetbootin, using dd, formatted it as FAT32 and copied files from image, etc). Configured it for UEFI booting as well as for Legacy booting
  • In all cases, when I switch on the NUC, I see the well-known menu:
    • Try Ubuntu without installing
    • Install Ubuntu
    • OEM install
    • Check disc for defects

So it looks like the USB stick is detected and read.

  • When I select the options for Try Ubuntu or Install Ubuntu, I get the message:

mmc0: unknown controller version (3). You may experience problems.

The latter is certainly true, because nothing happens after this: the screen turns black and stays that way.

To exclude hardware failures, I installed Windows 10 without any problem. The mmc0 device (i.e. the SD card reader) is working properly here.

Anybody having a clue?

Powering Multiple Devices incl. Intel NUC from a single 12V power supply

Hello,

We are building a special digital signage system. And we want to use an Intel NUC mini computer inside it.

We want to know if we can power all the devices inside it from a single power supply.

We want to use the following equipment inside it.

Power Source: Meanwell 12V LED Driver Power Supply - LPC-150-MEAN WELL Switching Power Supply Manufacturer

  1. Intel NUC Kit Model: NUC5i3RYH (On the manual it states that it can work 12-19V)
    • i3 Processor
    • 4GB RAM
    • 64 GB SSD
  2. LED Strip Lights (Need 12V)
  3. A/D Board for LCD Panel (12-19V)

Question:

If we use this above mentioned single Meanwell LED Driver Power Supply with enough wattage/amps, will it power all the devices at the same time without any problem?

Is there any risk for the Intel Nuc Kit?

Another Option:

Is it possible to power the LED Strip Lights directly from the Intel Nuc Motherboard inside it?

Thank you for your support.

I attempted to install Intel Network Adapter Driver for Windows 10 version 21.1 (the latest version at this time) onto my NUCi67KYK, and the install of the driver would hang for 5 minutes, and then fail.  Due to this post, I installed Intel Network Adapter Driver for Windows 10 version 20.7.1 and the driver and wired ethernet connection works fine.  This is only a temporary solution, what happens when there is a network driver update we need to move to, but it doesn't work?  Why does this happen?  Can a fix be provided for the latest Intel Network Adapter Driver for Windows 10 for the NUCi67KYK so I'm not stuck with this old driver version?

Intel graphics driver for Skull Canyon needs update - see Skyrim SE issue

Hi,

as much as I was pleased wit the NUC on Civ 6. I must say we have a issue on in Skyrim Special Edition (october released remaster) the issue is the same as on HD 530 see video Intel HD Graphics 530 The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition (Remastered) Test - YouTube

While on the 4400 it work without this problem

Obviously a driver issue, which is sad as first off all the Skull Canyon is marketed as a gaming NUC, and let me tell you the frame rate is really playable even with high settings, but the shadows, gray flickering is killing it. Please not that even the latest driver Intel Iris/HD Graphics Driver 20.19.15.4539 Beta 64-bit

is not solving it, well I guess it now comes to how fast can Intel respond, and give a update, obviously its needed.
