Buying RAM for Intel NUC Skull Canyon

Hi,

I am buying a 8GB RAM for NUC Skull Canyon. What should I look for specifically? SO-DIMM?

I have a few options below:

1. Kingston 8GB 260-Pin DDR4 2133 SO-DIMM (PC4 17000) Laptop Memory(2144MHz)

2. Adata Premier DDR4 Notebook RAM | 2133Mhz | 8GB

3. Apacer 8GB DDR4 2133mhz Notebook Ram

Which one is better? Does it matter whether it is 2144MHz or 2133MHz? DD3 or DD4?

Is it important what company produce it - Kingston, Crucial, Adata P or Apacer?

Can I mix two 8GB RAMs together in NUC from different companies,, eg. 1x8GB Kingston and 1x8GB Adata P?

Thanks!

Hi guys, i'm new here. So, i have 5i7 for one year. All drivers and BIOS always new. Sometimes during gameplay (World of Tanks) system just shuts down, afrer restarting i see "Processor thermal trip" message.

I downloaded HWmonitor from here:

DOWNLOADING HWMONITOR_1.30.EXE | CPUID

Furmark as well:

FurMark download | Geeks3D

In Furmark i tried Burn CPU (exactly Burn CPU, not GPU stress test) button and got 100-105 C temperature of CPU in HWmonitor in 5 minutes.

Guys, if somebody have 5i7ryh, try please your temperature with same software..

Thanks.

D54250WYK best wifi card?

I bought a used NUC D54250WYK (Intel Core i5-4250U) with Windows 10 installed.  I also bought a new wifi card 7260.HMWG.R on Amazon and installed it with the screw and two antenna wires.

The NUC doesn't see the Wifi card.  I even tried updating the BIOS of the NUC to the latest version.

Is there a more compatible wifi card I should buy or do I need special drivers to make it work?

NUC6i7KYK No 3D option from TV.

Hi there,

so after having many issues with my previous unit. i replaced my NUC6i7KYK with a new one.
Strange problem now - i have a digital Panasonic TV - 65" Inch. among other things the TV support 3D.

on the TV  - When i go to input "Hdmi 3" - (the nuc is connected on that HDMI port.) the TV option for 3D is grayed out. and i can't choose it.

If i will go to a different HDMI input - let's say my cable box on Input HDMI 2. then the 3D on TV - is not grayed out. and i am able to choose it.

the hardware should be fine - the Hdmi cables connected to nuc support 3D. and there are Draft 2.0.

i am using latest Drivers, and Bios.

Win 10 64bit - Fresh\Clean install.

Thank you all for your help.

Hi,

This is my 2nd NUC, from NUC5i7RYH.

After setting up the hardware and getting it connected, I couldn't get any display, even at BIOS level. I haven't got to installing an OS yet.

Here's what I tried.

- HDMI to TV (HDMI 1.4, does it the TV hdmi version matters ?)

- Mac Mini display DVI dongle to a monitor DVI input

- Mac Mini display VGA dongle to a monitor VGA

I tried switching to different HDMI cables which are working for other devices but no go.

The LED blink once after a while like it reboot when no boot media is detected or something. Fans are spinning.

NUC5iRYH - Compatible SSD and installation (Help!!)

Hey guys!

Before reading this, I just want to tell you that I'm not a computer genius, so please, forgive me if I ask some dumb questions.

I've a NUC5iRYH with only 125 GB of storage. So I would like to replace it by something more impressive like 500 GB.

But here comes the issue, I don't know exactly which SSD is compatible with my NUC. I've done some research and it seems that the

Samsung SSD 500 Go Série 850 EVO M.2 (MZ-N5E500BW) is compatible. I just want to be sure before purchasing one.

And I read on the forum that there is some kind of maneuver to do after replacing the SSD... Is it hard? How do I proceed?

I've also a few questions:

1- How do I move my current files, games to the new storage?

2- Do I need to repurchase Windows 10 once I've changed the SSD?

Thanks!

English is my third language, so if you don't understand something, don't hesitate to ask me, I'll try my best to write something understandable.

Intel NUC 6I3SYK No Surround Sound

Hello everyone,

There are already several discussions about this issue and I wonder if there happens to be a solution by now.

Anyway, I have just bought a NUC 6I3SYK and connected it to my 4K TV which is connected to my surround system via optical cable. My NUC however, simply does not want to output the audio in more than 2 channels. In the Windows 10 speaker setup I have no other choice but "Stereo".

I have tried absolutely every driver I could find for my system, but none of them worked. I have tried wiping the audio/graphics drivers and reinstalling the newest version - nothing.

Kinda love this little box, but no Surround sound on a Mediacenter PC is pretty much unforgivable. There has to be a solution for this, right? After all this is Intel...

Intel NUC 5PPYH freezes

$

Hi everyone,

I've bought a few Intel NUC 5PPYH for our company.

I wanted to use them just to establish a RDP connection to our terminalservers.

I've equipped them with:

Samsung 750 EVO MZ-750120BW 120GB

Kingston KVR16LS11/4 4GB (DDR3L Non-ECC CL11 SODIMM 1,35V, 204-pin 1,5V)

I've installed Windows 8.1x64 Pro.

They run very smooth, but I gave the first of them to my colleague for testing, and he told me, that the whole system is freezing from time to time, and the only option is to hard-reset the client. The problem is not reproducible.

I've seen, that this is a quite known problem in this forums.

I've read that (under Linux) updating the kernel seems to fix the problem.

Others have fixed the problem by choosing the Intel Rapid Storage driver at the windows installation.

Are there any known fixes?

Yes, I know that this is a user-to-user community, but has there been any official statement from Intel about this problem?

What I'm going to to now:

- try this: How to fix 100% Disk Usage on Microsoft Windows 10/8.1/8/7/Vista - YouTube

- reinstalling Windows with the Intel Rapid Storage driver at the installation

Thanks in advance.

Regards.

Powering Multiple Devices incl. Intel NUC from a single 12V power supply

$

Hello,

We are building a special digital signage system. And we want to use an Intel NUC mini computer inside it.

We want to know if we can power all the devices inside it from a single power supply.

We want to use the following equipment inside it.

Power Source: Meanwell 12V LED Driver Power Supply - LPC-150-MEAN WELL Switching Power Supply Manufacturer

  1. Intel NUC Kit Model: NUC5i3RYH (On the manual it states that it can work 12-19V)
    • i3 Processor
    • 4GB RAM
    • 64 GB SSD
  2. LED Strip Lights (Need 12V)
  3. A/D Board for LCD Panel (12-19V)

Question:

If we use this above mentioned single Meanwell LED Driver Power Supply with enough wattage/amps, will it power all the devices at the same time without any problem?

Is there any risk for the Intel Nuc Kit?

Another Option:

Is it possible to power the LED Strip Lights directly from the Intel Nuc Motherboard inside it?

Thank you for your support.

5i5MYBE - What size DC Power Jack do I Need?

mini-cloud-1-scaled.jpg

I won the Intel OSIC Big Bounties for Big Ideas contest in May and received my prize.  An Intel NUC Mini rack of 4X 5i5MYBE blades.  Unfortunately they didn't come in boxes, with power adapters, etc. and are standalone.  I need to know what size/where to get the DC Power jacks to power these blades without having to buy 4X 6 5W AC power adapters that I will just be cutting the connectors off of anyway.  You can refer to my project documentation here for details, but I just need 4 power jacks to send 19V power to these units from my PSU.

Thanks.

Raid options?

Hello,

I have the NUC6i7KYK with a Samsung 950 Pro (M.2) SSD drive.  I just finished installing Windows 10 and all of my software.  Now (of course way late!), I'm thinking about some type of RAID1 (mirrored) setup for the M.2 drive.  I ran my last setup with mirrored SATA drives and liked the security against a drive failure.  This new single SSD drive setup worries me a bit.

If I added a second drive, is it possible to setup a RAID volume without having to re-install/backup/restore what I already have?  Something from the BIOS level possibly?

If not, what other good options do I have?

Why can't Intel RST see either NVMe drive - "No disks connected to system"

$

I just got a nuc6i7kyk and I'm trying to set up a RAID through BIOS. I have two identical Toshiba OCZ RD400 SSDs installed. BIOS can see both of them.

I followed the directions (RAID Setup Procedure for Intel® NUC Kit NUC6i7KYK ) and set up the two drives initially:

Advanced -> devices -> SATA ->

     "Chipset SATA Mode" -> RAID

M.2 Slot 1 RST PCIe Storage Remapping -> checked

M.2 Slot 2 RST PCIe Storage Remapping -> checked

Then saved, quit, and re-loaded BIOS. I then entered the Intel Rapid Store Technology Add-in config:

Advanced -> devices -> Add-in Config -> "Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology" -> configure

And then all it shows is:

Intel (R) RST 14.8.0.2377 RAID Driver:

No disks connected to system

BIOS can see the drives, they're both "remapped to RST," but Intel RST can't see them to build an array out of.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thunderbolt device not recognized through USB-C port

$

I am using a Nuc6i7kyk with Windows 10.

I have a Motu 828x audio interface that runs through Thunderbolt. The cable I am using is a Thunderbolt 2 cable and I have a Startech Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 adapter to plug into the USB-C connection. Motu have tested a Startech adapter with the 828x and it works. They advised that I should be able to just plug it in and it should work.

I have updated the drivers for the NUC and made sure I have installed the latest Thunderbolt software but the audio interface is not being recognized.

Any help would be appreciated.

NUC5i7RYH Iris Graphics Crashing/Freezing on some websites with Windows 10

$

I am experiencing  crashes/freezes on certain websites that contain embedded video. The NUC involved is model NUC5i7RYH running windows 10 64 bit. The freeze is total when it happens. Everything just stops working. There is no blue screen just a complete freeze. I have to power down to get the NUC working again. After much investigation I discovered that the culprit is the Iris 6100 graphics driver. I am using the latest version 20.19.15.4300 but the problem also occurred on previous version. When I change the driver to the Microsoft basic display driver the problem disappears. However, video and text with the microsoft basic display driver does not appear to be quite as good video as with the intel driver (and Windows 10 constantly "updates" the driver to the problem intel version). Hence, this is only a temporary fix or workaround.

I've  noted that this problem can be recreated by launching the Iris Graphics Control Center, selecting Video, then selecting Color Enhancement on the left side (the default) and  then under Preview selecting FilmModeDetection. As soon as I select FilmModeDetection the computer freezes. If I change the driver settings on this page to Full Range the FilmModeDetection option will sometimes run and some problem websites will load without crashing the computer immediately but they do eventually cause a crash so selecting the "Full Range" option does not appear to be a fix.

It would be nice if Intel could solve this issue. I expect others must be experiencing it as well. In fact, my searches have indicated a variety of problems with intel video (not just Iris) and windows 10.
