BIOS update for NUC7i5BNH causes fan speed settings to be ignored

$

I have a new NUC7i5BNH and I noticed that the fan ran at constant speed. I found the Cooling page in the BIOS and set it to Quiet - this allowed the fan to slow down and stop when the CPU was not loaded.

I then updated the BIOS - the previous one had a March date, the new one July. With the new BIOS, the fan runs at a constant 3700RPM no matter what I set for the fan mode. I see several other threads reporting the same problem (but was asked to start a new thread). Given that it worked before the BIOS update, it is evidently not a hardware problem and is instead a bug introduced into the BIOS. How can this be escalated to the proper team to fix it?

NUC6I5SYH - I can not access setup

F2, F7, or F10 do not work on the NUC boot. I understand the USB ports are enabled only after the windows boot, and for me it did not solve Intel's suggestions to reduce the display resolution to 1360x768 or use the power button after the third beep. How can I access the BIOS?

NUC6i7KYK vs. NUC7i7BNH - NOISE factor for HTPC use

Hello my friends,

I have an old intel nuc - NUC5I7RYH.

I decided I want to buy a new one. At first thought to buy - NUC6i7KYK (skull canyon)

However, while reading about this model in this forum I found many said it is noisy even in idle.

So, I looked around and found the next model - NUC7i7BNH.

I am going to install on it:

Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133 MHz SO-DIMM Memory Kit (2 x 16GB)

Samsung 512GB 960 PRO M.2 Internal SSD

The main use is for HTPC - streaming and watching videos, web and perhaps in the future as a home pc with a little graphic usage - editing video.

But, the main use will be for watching and streaming video content from web.

what do you think would be the best model and the quieter model.

I don't want to be stucked with a model which will make noise and ruin the fun of watchin movies in my living room.

Is anyone tried them both and can tell me how noisy they are?

TNX ahead,

NUC6i5SYH - Remote Control does not work

Hello everyone,

I come back here, now to try to solve a problem found in my NUC.

I have a standard MCE remote control with a USB extender that works perfect with a Zotac Nano minipc, but I can't get it to work with NUC, using or not the extender.

I would like guidance on how to enable the feature.

I'm using BIOS 057. Will it be necessary to install some program in Windows 10 so that the remote control is activated?

Thank you.

Cannot get 2560x1440 output on NUC6i7KYK via HDMI

I have just purchased my first NUC Skull Canyon and I have connected it to my Samsung S27B971D WQHD monitor. However, 2560x1440 is not listed in the available resolutions. I have also tried to add it manually through Intel Iris Graphics Control Panel but I am getting "The custom resolution exceeds the maximum bandwidth capacity". 3 different HDMI cables I have tried with no success. I am pretty sure that I can get this resolution through DisplayPort but currently I do not have one. I am pretty sure I can get it through HDMI as well, as I have read that 4K is supported through HDMI on this machine.

NUC7i5 bluetooth issues

Hi,

I have been having a number of issues with the bluetooth radio on my NUC7i5. Intermittently the bluetooth stop functioning and restarting does not do anything to fix it. The system device manager tells me that a USB device is not recognized, which I guess is the bluetooth.

If I unplug the machine for a few minutes, then switch on again, this seems to fix the issue. My logitech mx anywhere 2S mouse and k810 keyboard are both attached via bluetooth so its a real pain when they no longer function.

Separately, on booting, sometimes the machine gets stuck on the grey NUC pre-bios screen, sometimes it doesn't get to that screen. If I power off and power on again, it generally boots correctly.

Any suggestions?

Skull Canyon fails to boot from time to time

I have one of the more annoying issues ever which would simply won't go away.

Some background first:

I'm using a Windows 10 x64 PC with BitLocker encryption backed by TPM.

In every 3-4 COLD boots at the beginning of the day i would get a message from windows at boot time that the TPM is unavailable, and because of that windows could not automatically DE-crypt my drive, and i should use the recovery key instead.

At this point more often than not, i cannot even do that because my keyboard isn't working until i disconnect the usb hub cable, and reconnect it.

At this point there is a simple work-around, to simply press CTRL-ALT-DELETE and perform a warm boot. The next boot ALWAYS work using the TPM which is available at this point. Notice i cannot reproduce the issue using warm boots.

In addition do note that i usually leave the machine completely unplugged for several hours / days to save power.

Sometimes the problem escalates to the point the BCD data is corrupted, and a manual repair is needed. But this is far more rare.

My boot settings are: Fastboot disabled , secureboot enabled, and TPM is active and used for BitLocker.

I'm using the latest available BIOS (49)

Unattended BIOS Configuration and update

Hi,

I´m trying to automate the configuration of the NUC5i5MYBE so Secure Boot, UEFI, Bootorder etc is in place, but as I read in the instructions the way to accomplish this is to boot into "Internal UEFI Shell" and then export the configuration to a new file that can be applied to other NUC... my problem is to be able to boot into "internal UEFI Shell" one must disable Secure Boot, and the configuration will therefor have Secure boot disabled...  We do have a lot of NUC´s, so any directions or input are appreciated

Thanks

INTEL NUCi7 3D MVC ISSUE

Coming from Intel NUC DN2820 I was able to play 3D MVC with Kodi with new Intel Media SDK, I just purchased Intel NUC NUC7i3BNK and 3D playback doesn't work.

On the Intel NUC DN2820, the resolution was set 1920X1080p 3D and everything works great

On the Intel NUC NUC7i3BNK either I set the 1920X1080p 3D or  3820X2160p 3D doesn't work

The Intel Media SDK was supposed to allow 3D MVC to work, I did some testing and found the HDMI 2.0 connection is the one causing the issue and any NUC with HDMI 2.0 doesn't work/

NUC7i3BNH HDMI-issues (video format not supported) with some Philips hotel TVs

$

Hi!

How could it be that several Philips hotel TVs (32-40" 1080p - age 2-3yrs) says "video format not supported" with black screen when HDMI-connected to the NUC7i3BNH with latest bios 0050 and latest W10 intel gfx drivers installed (22.20.16.4771)?

This used to work with the same set of TVs prior to bios 0048 and a colleague of mine with exactly the same setup also lost the picture during the same period of time when this bios was released.

When connecting my other NUC (6i5SYK) to the same set of TVs (with the same HDMI-cables) everything just works - also, pretty much everything else works on these TVs so I can't really force the Hotels to update their TVs could I?

What has changed that prevents this from working?

Also, have tried with many different HDMI-cables with no luck...

Edit: I'm able to see post and bios screen during startup but then it goes black when OS started. /Edit

Nuc stays on when tv is turned off but powers down when tv is restarted

Hello.

I'm a new proud owner of a nuc7i3bnh.

Bios version 86A (49).

Windows 10 home 64bit.

I will be using the nuc as a media device connected to my tv (lg webos 2014).

When I turn on my tv I want the nuc to start (works fine as specified in nuc bios).

When I turn off my tv I want the nuc to shutdown (does not work, see below).

HDMI cec signals are working great using the lg tv remote. I have a pulse eight adapter inside the nuc. Navigating the windows 10 kodi app works as expected.

This is what happens when I turn my tv off:

Everything is running fine, tv on and nuc also.

I press the tv remote red button.

Tv turns off.

Nuc stays on.

I then start tv again to see what happened by pressing tv remote red button.

Tv turns on.

When I see the windows desktop it only takes a few seconds then the computer automatically shuts down.

It's as if the "shutdown" windows signal is not sent the first time due to timing.

The reason I say this is because if i instead set Kodi to sleep instead of shutdown (when tv turns off) it actually does sleep. But funny enough when I turn the tv back on windows still shuts down.

There are hdmi cec settings in the bios (set to turn on nuc when tv starts, other settings are turned off).

There are hdmi cec settings in kodi (what to do when tv is turned off, set to shutdown windows/pc).

And finally my lg tv has hdmi cec settings (SimpLink, auto-sync power is on).

If I disable the auto-sync power feature of SimpLink the nuc stays on, doesn't sleep or power down.

Due to a lot of cec settings involved perhaps there is a conflict. Hope you guys have some ideas.

Thanks for reading.

Best regards,

Eriksson

NUC7i3BNK with Windows 10 will not power down or restart properly

I immediately updated the bios when I got my NUC, then installed UBUNTU on it.  It worked well and issuing the shutdown command powered the NUC down just fine.  I decided to wipe the drive and install Windows 10 on it. All the device drivers, chipset drivers, etc installed just fine. Then I went to restart the NUC from Windows.  It hung up with the power light still on and there was no video output on the screen.  I had to hold the power button down until is powered off.  Once I got it booted up, I issued a shutdown from windows 10 and again the screen went blank and the power button light stayed on.  I booted from a LINUX USB drive I have and tested shutting the NUC down and it worked just fine and powered all the way down so this is definitely a Windows 10 problem.

This doesn't seem like a big deal but it is when the NUC is setup as my HTPC and everytime Windows 10 applies and update and restarts (which I cannot stop from happening thanks Microsoft), the NUC goes down but doesn't come back up and none of my devices can access it and my family blames me for not being able to access our movies, pictures, etc.

Does anyone else have this problem.  Any suggestions on what to do?  I  even wiped the drive again and reinstalled windows but didn't manually install / update any drivers or let Windows install any update and the problem was there from the get go.

NUC7i3BNH HDMI RGB support in 4K missing

I assembled my NUC and connected it to Samsung 40" 4K TV as a monitor. I'm using it for development.

Previously I used the TV with Nvidia G730-based graphics (HDMI 1.4), and it did RGB in 4K resolution at 30 fps.

Unfortunately, it seems that NUC graphics driver configures HDMI (2.0) output to run 4K 30fps in decimated YCrCb mode, rather than in RGB mode. This causes colored text in programming IDE and other text applications to appear blurry. G730 only had to go to YCrCb in 60 fps 4K mode.

Any suggestions?

NUC7i5BNH - Dual 1080p screen flickering issue

Hi everyone,

So i recently purchased an Intel NUC 7th Generation i5 (NUC7i5BNH) with 8GB Crucial Memory (1x 8Gb) & Samsung 960 EVO NVMe M.2 SSD, along with Dual LG 27MP68HM 1080p monitors.

I am running the latest BIOS v.0050 & graphics drivers.

I am using the HDMI Cable that came with the monitor and i am using a usb-c to HDMI dongle. If I run a single monitor whether its direct HDMI or via USB-C dongle I don't have any issues or any flickers on the monitor. but if I am running both monitors (in extended mode) both my monitors keep flickering every few seconds... usually the flicker lasts less than a second so i cannot make out what it is, but sometimes i've noticed its vertical line along the bottom half of one monitor & horizontal lines along the middle & bottom end of the second monitor.

I've switched cables, i've swapped monitors around & didn't notice any issues running single monitor.. usually when i am watching Youtube or any video on one montior & have a website open on the other thats when i see screen flicker. but sometimes its even when there is nothing on either of the screens.

I will try to create a video and upload on Youtube to show what i mean but that's all i can explain as of now, i Know there is an similar thread here for 4k display but mine is 1080p.

Update: I have the similar flicker as seen in the video, excluding the part where screen turns off & on.

NUC7i5BNK Kinect V2 Configuration Verifier reports error "Waiting for frames from Kinect"

I have a NUC7i5BNK with 8GB of ram running a fresh copy Windows 10 Pro. I installed a Kinect V2 on the system.

When I run the Kinect Configuration Verifier:

https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkID=513889

I get an error "Waiting for frames from Kinect" and no frames are displayed.

I have updated the firmware on NUC to v50, reset the bios to defaults, fully updated windows 10 and tested that same Kinect on 2 other machines.

Any help/clue as to why this error is popping up and how to fix it is greatly appreciated.

NUC7i5 HDMI audio problems with receiver

So, I have 3 generations of NUC's and the new 7th gen seems to have the original problem as the older ones.   I have an onkyo receiver and a panasonic TV.

If the NUC wakes from sleep without the receiver on (and set to that HDMI input), the audio on the NUC going forward will not work until you reboot the system.  There is no way to "reactivate" the receiver as the speaker.

This has been a problem with the older generation NUC's and drivers seems to have fixed most of it.  Ideally, the audio driver should re-establish the audio link on each wake (instead of just reboot).  It negotiates the video fine via HDMI, but the audio is broken

Please fix!!!  I have the latest driver, bios, etc...all installed

3rd monitor not recognized in collage mode

Hi,

I made an installation with three video-wall displays and Intel NUC-machine.

The Intel Graphics finds the monitors and an extended display can be used with all of them.

As the installation topology is 1x3 (ie. wanted resolution is 1920x3240px) collage mode is needed.

When entering the collage -mode settings, the Intel Graphics finds only 2 displays at the time.

How can I use all of the three displays in collage mode?

As per the Dell's link below, it is said the third (last) monitor needs to be set to DP1.1.

Can anyone confirm this?

*EDIT* We tried this (last screen in DP1.1 and that didn't work either.

NUC7i3BNH and Samsung UE55KU6400 HDMI problems

$

Hi everyone,

I've recently purchased a NUC7i3BNH and after installing memory and SSD I tried to connect to my Samsung UHD TV model UE55KU6400 and only got a black screen, no intel logo, nothing.

Then I tried to plug to my older Phillips TV and worked fine, installed Windows 10 and then tried to hot swap the cable to back the samsung and voila! Glorious 3840 x 2160 working just fine.

However, if I change source or turn off the TV and try to get back to Windows 10, I get a weird pink screen for a second and then a "No source" message from my Samsung. If i try to reboot the NUC, only blank screen again. The only way to get the screen back to the Samsung, is by doing the hot swap trick with the older phillips.

I'm no expert but I've spent the weekend learning about HDMI handshake issues and have tried updating all the drivers, the DEVCON trick and nothing works apart from hot swap. As that is not a practical solution I would like to ask if anyone can help.

Thanks!

NUC7I7BNH Audio Issues: popping (3.5mm audio jack front panel)

$

I have received my NUC7I5BNH a about a month ago, and I'm noticing strange noises in my headphones plugged in the front audio jack when I start or restart audio after some pause. I use Sound Intone CX-05 Noise Isolating Headphones with an in-line remote and microphone. When I plug them in the NUC jack the Realtek manager pops up. I can hear a faint popping sound and sometimes lout sound distortion when the sound restarts after no audio was played for a while, which is very annoying. I have read this has maybe to do with some sort of a sleep mode of the audio module or with the audio jack when it is expecting a microphone maybe. It does not really matter if I use the headset or headphone setting in the Realtek manager - there is at best only a gradual difference. I also tried different headsets and headphones. There is a bigger qualitative difference, but the issue is in for me in every case present.

I found some articles on the net about the possible issue with the sleep/power saving mode of the audio module and literally tried every (reasonable) suggestion (e.g. Fix Audio Static Crackling Popping with Realtek Sound Card ) - but nothing worked. Please help, this is really frustrating.
