Is NUC my best choice?

$

I currently have a DELL XPS 8700, and am looking for something small enough to travel with.

I would like for the new computer to run for long periods of time and am wondering if this small form would be heat tolerant.

I will mainly be doing torrenting, light photoshopping, and general web-surfing.

Is the NUC my best choice?  If so, which model would you recommend?

Thanks in advance.

Downgrade BIOS on NUC7i3BNH to version 0036

Hi

I got a NUC7i3BNH, which originally came with BIOS 0036.

My plan is to have VMware ESXi on this box (either 6.0U3 or 6.5).

I saw that there was a BIOS upgrade available, so I updated to BIOS 0042.

But now the system, won't power off, when doing a shutdown of the ESXi software (tested with both ESXi 6.0U3 and 6.5)

I have been in communication with other people with the precise same hardware, and ESXi versions, running BIOS 0036, where the shutdown/power off works.

So I would like to downgrade the BIOS to 0036 again.

But when I try this I just get "Incompatible BIOS Version, Update aborted" using either the F7 option or the IFLASH2 option.

When I try to do a Power Button Menu F4 BIOS Recovery, I just get a blank/black screen, and the system is just on, but nothing happens. Left it there for many hours.

I have also tried the BIOS Security Jumper, but the result is the same as the Power Button Menu F4 BIOS Recovery option.

How do I downgrade the BIOS back to the original 0036?

NUC7i3BNK fails to output display

Hi all,

Got my kaby lake i3BNK NUC, excitedly opened the package, made some appropriate ooh and ahh noises, installed 2x4gb of ram and slapped a 500GB m.2 drive in it.

Inserted my windows 10 install USB, plugged it into a TV, turned it on, and.. nothing.

No display output detected. Huh.
Tried different TVs.
Tried different HDMI cables.
Tried different RAM.
Tried booting without an M.2.
Tried booting with the BIOS jumper in different configurations.

No display output... just a solid blue light.

I'm at a total loss. Would appreciate any steps you guys think I could make.

Thanks.

No video output on new NUC7i3BNK

Hi,

Just got a NUC7i3BNK and trying to connect it to install an OS and I don't get anything out of the HDMI. Have tried 2 different TVs with HDMI connector, and 1 HDMI to DVI cable to a monitor. None of which show anything on the screens. Power light comes on solid blue, so doesn't look like a RAM/SSD issue.

Any suggestions?

Cheers

Simon

Hello, sorry for my bad english

I have the problem that i have no picture, after i start my Intel NUC NUC6CAYH with my Samsung tv. I use a HDMI 2.0 cabel. On the NUC is Windows 10 64 Bit, with the latest drivers, and the actually bios. The samsung tv are not seeing the nuc after the start. If i start the NUC, without a HDMI cabel and put the cabel after the start in the NUC, I have a connection. On my Samsung tv is the actually driver.

On my old tv or other monitor, i don,t have the problems with the NUC.

Thank you........

IR receiver not working on NUC7i3BNK after startup

I have two NUC7i3BNK that both have the same issue of the ITECIR Infrared Receiver not being detected after startup. It seems to only happen when the units are started by turning on their HDMI monitor or by pressing the power button on a RC6 IR remote. If I press the power button on the unit to turn it on or select restart in windows the ITECIR Infrared Receiver shows up in device manager and a IR remote works normally. When the IR decides not to work, scanning for new devices in device manager makes no difference and the ITECIR Infrared Receiver does not show up under HID. Both units are running windows 10 and didn't have the issue when initially installed.

I was hoping someone could help me. I got my new and beautiful NUC7I3BNH set up but I the only audio option I get is stereo. I have tried different HDMI ports and cables. I have updated the Bios to 51, tried all the video drivers I could find  including the stable 4664 and the latest 4771, I've deleted just the audio from device manager, deleted the video from device manager, updated the HDMI firmware, clean installed windows, removed realtec and reinstalled etc etc. I am out of ideas. The hdmi on the back of the nuc is connected to my HDMI 2 on the one connect mini box of my samsung un65ju7100. My samsung 4k blu ray player and xbox one have no problems sending 4k and multiple audio formats when connected the same way. BTW tv has the most recent update to.

NUC7I7BNH picture and sound drops out for a couple of seconds

I have an intel NUC NUC7I7BNH acting as a media centre
plugged in via hdmi to a sony STD-DN1080, which in turn is connected to an LG 55UH850V
also via HDMI.  I have an intermittent
fault (but it is happening frequently) where both the picture and sound drop
for 2 seconds prior to coming back on again.
It seems to happen most often when scrolling a web page from MS edge,
but will happen at other times as well.

Things I have tried thus far

  1. Change the HDMI cables
  2. I have tried to make sure that all of the
drivers/software for the NUC, Amp and TV are up to date
  3. Ensure that HDMI control (CEC) is disabled for
    all of the devices
  4. Change the refresh rate of the monitor from 59
    hrz to 60 hrz
  5. I also tried disabling the generic P’n’P
monitor, but I am not sure that this really worked as I couldn’t find a suitable
    replacement drive.
  6. I have moving the NUC to a different input on
    the amp.

But thus far I don’t seem to have found the answer.  I wondered if there was anyone else 1) having
similar issues or 2) had any suggestions as to what to try next.

I have other sources connected to the AMP none of which exhibit
this behaviour

NUC kit DC3217BY electric (?) issues

Hello to all,

I write to you about a series of problems, to tell you the truth, that is pulling me stupid.

In the past winter I bought a used NUC DC3217BY; using my Lacie D2 tb2 hard drive, I noticed that the monitor connected will turn off for a couple of seconds. Sometimes, approaching the cable to the port, little sparks happened.

The hard disk, however, always worked great.

Using it frequently as a "tv" pc, I noticed that also the usb ports made sparks when connecting a device.

Anyway, I have never experienced any problem.

Until this week; trying to update/change my ooss, I burned 2 usb keys and a microSD! which one is irreparable. Everything without particular subterfuge. Insert, puf ... does not read ... "unrecognized device"

I saved two of them, one is no longer read at all.

Once I thought It was my home wirings, but I've tried in different places with no differences. I'm guessing there is current dispersion in the nuc. How I can solve this?

About now I'm not even able to boot by a rescue usb drive!

A last strange sign, connected to a monitor with audio via hdmi, powering the nuc, after the bios POST, trying to boot by usb, I heard an annoying buzz. That was attenuated by inserting usbs, then returning.

Then it will be a casualty, but before all of this nightmare the mPCI wifi card has stopped hooking the 5 GHz band.

Maybe a faulty power supply?

If anyone had any ideas, I would be happy.

Thanks in advance

Question about the Intel Serial IO Driver

What is the use of  Intel Serial IO Driver on NUC 6i5 ?

Is there any pin on the NUC mainboard, assigned to the driver of Serial IO UART Host Controller and Serial IO GPIO Host Controller?

Is the any possible to connect Intel NUC and Intel Edison via the Serial IO Driver?

Can I get a demo program (e.g. C# ) to show the usage?

Thanks a lot.

NUC7i7BNH - Liquid Metal Thermal Compound

$

Hi,

My NUC7i7BNH is getting quite hot and noisy. I’m considering replacing the stock thermal compound on the CPU. Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut (a liquid metal thermal compound) had about a -20C impact on my main i7-7700K based PC, so I am thinking of using it on the NUC’s i7-7567U. For those who are unaware, liquid metal should never be applied to aluminum heatsinks. Copper and nickel plated heatsinks are safe.

- Is there any aluminum in the NUC7i7BNH heatsink?

- Has anyone tried using a liquid metal thermal compound on the NUC’s CPU? Did it help reduce the temperature?

NUC7I5BNK Power ON from Microsoft Xbox 360 Media Remote not working

I am not sure if it is a bug or a missing feature but since it’s announced that this remote is compatible (NUC Ecosystem Catalog July 2017) should work.

360 Media remote.png

https://www.intel.es/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/technical-specifications/nuc-ecosystem-catalog-2017.pdf

Please add support in BIOS or remove from advertised products as compatible.

NOTE: some old NUC’s has this support in BIOS:

However in last generation NUC’s (NUC7I5BNK) this option is missing in BIOS.

NUC7I3BNK power button blinking orange and not booting

So the NUC's power button is colored orange and constantly blinks. And pressing the power button as well as removing RAM, M.2 SSD, BIOS security jumper, and every combination of aforementioned does absolutely nothing. I checked the technical product specification and, according to its blinking code table, the computer seems to be in sort of a permanent S3 standby? I'm clueless.

Anyway, I'd appreciate the help if anyone has a clue as to what might be the problem.

Also, it might be worth noting that it's a new NUC, with new RAM and SSD (both of them being compatible)—no OS installed. I have performed a BIOS update though, updating it to its latest version, and I did try to perform BIOS recovery but to no avail as pressing or holding the power button just doesn't do anything.

3rd monitor not recognized in collage mode

Hi,

I made an installation with three video-wall displays and Intel NUC-machine.

The Intel Graphics finds the monitors and an extended display can be used with all of them.

As the installation topology is 1x3 (ie. wanted resolution is 1920x3240px) collage mode is needed.

When entering the collage -mode settings, the Intel Graphics finds only 2 displays at the time.

How can I use all of the three displays in collage mode?

As per the Dell's link below, it is said the third (last) monitor needs to be set to DP1.1.

Can anyone confirm this?

*EDIT* We tried this (last screen in DP1.1 and that didn't work either.

Machine:

INTEL NUC BOXNUC7i7BNH Core i7-7567U

With Windows 10 HP

Displays:

NEC X554UNV (daisy chained with DP-DP cables in DP mode 1.2).

Display connection via Targus USB-C - Display Port -adapter.

Cannot get 2560x1440 output on NUC6i7KYK via HDMI

I have just purchased my first NUC Skull Canyon and I have connected it to my Samsung S27B971D WQHD monitor. However, 2560x1440 is not listed in the available resolutions. I have also tried to add it manually through Intel Iris Graphics Control Panel but I am getting "The custom resolution exceeds the maximum bandwidth capacity". 3 different HDMI cables I have tried with no success. I am pretty sure that I can get this resolution through DisplayPort but currently I do not have one. I am pretty sure I can get it through HDMI as well, as I have read that 4K is supported through HDMI on this machine.
