NUC6i7KYK HDMI audio glitch

I have a very strange audio issue that I'd like advice on.

I recently replaced my NUC DC3217BY with the NUC6i7KYK. The computer sits under my TV for media playback, video calling, and gaming.

My TV is a Panasonic plasma from 2008 with Full HD resolution. The surround amp is a Marantz NR1601 (HDMI1.4a) with 7.1 surround.

Windows is set up to output 7.1 with 24-bit audio @ 96kHz. This setting is common between the two NUCs.

For media, I stream YouTube or Netflix, play video files using VLC, and play DVDs/Blu-Rays using WinDVDPro.

With my DC3217BY I used WinDVDPro11, on the NUC6i7KYK I use WinDVDPro12. The drive is a Pioneer BDR-XU03 connected to one of the rear USB3.0 ports of the NUC.

The DC3217BY setup was flawless. It is only nearly flawless with the NUC6i7KYK.

I can play everything, but when I open WinDVDPro12 to play a DVD or  Blu-Ray, I notice the PCM indicator on my amp blinks off for about half a second every 10-20 seconds with an accompanying break in audio from the speakers. There is no issue with the video playback at all.

If I close WinDVDPro, the audio glitch continues on the same cadence regardless of what programs I open or what media I play.

The only way to get it to stop is either to put the computer into and out of standby or select a different audio playback device from the Windows 10 volume dialogue and then switch back to HDMI.

While WinDVDPro is open, if I change audio output to the headset jack or my Bluetooth headphones, there is no glitching on those outputs. When I revert to HDMI, the glitching resumes.

I have downloaded the Intel Driver Update Utility. However, when it scans my computer it keeps throwing up the same software and drivers as out-of-date. Attempts to install recommended versions fail. The graphics driver and the audio driver, however, are up-to-date. The chipset, Thunderbolt and a couple of others (including CIR) are flagged as wrong (I am not using the Thunderbolt port yet, the CIR seems to work without issue).

I have tried to run the HDMI v2.0 firmware update, but it will not install until I connect a HDMI v2.0 compliant device, which I do not have.

I don't believe I can blame WinDVDPro for the glitching as all it has to do is decode the audio and video from any disc that is playing, which it does correctly with all my other audio devices and there is no issue with the video at any point.

The fact that the issue starts when WinDVDPro starts is suspicious, but closing WinDVDPro does not fix it (I have to adjust audio output or put the computer to sleep).

The HDMI cables are all 1.4 high-speed and are 3' or 4' in length, so signal distortion does not seem likely (and anyway, audio is fine with every program except WinDVDPro).

My Marantz receiver is compatible with the audio settings I have.

Are there any known incompatibilities with HDMI audio that I can investigate?

Why doesn't the driver update utility work correctly to update all the drivers it says are outdated?

I have tried altering the settings for audio in Windows, but no sample rate or dynamic range bit-depth has any different effect. I have tried changing the way WinDVDPro works with audio from the DVD/Blu-Ray discs, but again no change.

NUC5i5MYHE: Reboot and select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key

Windows 10 was on the machine. I didn't note whether it was booting in Legacy BIOS mode or in UEFI mode, but it was working. I went to install Ubuntu Server on it, the install worked fine, but I could not boot into it. This happened with several installations. I troubleshooted by updating to the latest version of the BIOS (v38), alternatively disabling UEFI boot and Legacy BIOS mode, re-installing Ubuntu and using a Boot Repair tool (Live USB). Nothing was working. Then, yesterday, after doing a fresh install with default BIOS settings, and booting into the Boot Repair tool and shutting down the nuc for the night, it no longer boots into any of the Live USB's that were previously working.

I've tried Live USB's made with Etcher and made with the dd command in Terminal. I even tried making a Windows bootable drive using Bootcamp Assistant and nothing is booting.

It has a 180GB M.2 SSD and 16GB of RAM installed.

Any tips on troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

EPIC FAIL: NUC5CPYH Will not boot without VGA or HDMI monitor connected?

Hi,

it looks like NUC5CPYH is not booting if VGA or HDMI monitor is not connected.

I've updated to the latest available BIOS - the problem is still there

Was not able to find any relevant options in the BIOS settings to disable that behavior.

I must say it is beyond good and evil.

Was not expecting that behavior especially after finding thread from 2014 about the same  issue NUC Atom DE3815TYKE doesn't boot without screen

Is there a way to force NUC5CPYH NUC to boot without a screen ?

Thanks

NUC Skull Slow WiFi Download Speeds

$

The internet speeds to my house are 50 Mbps down/up. I'm getting only around 25-30 Mbps down to my NUC Skull. The upload speeds are in the high 40s as expected. (This is all via WiFi.)

Any ideas what would cause the slower download speeds?

I saw another thread with a similar issue. I've followed some trouble shooting steps advised there:

NUC 6i7KYB TPM

I'm trying to enable TPM (PTT or fTPM) on the NUC 6i7KYB. I am currently running BIOS 42 (KYSKLi70.086A.0042.2016.0929.1933) which is the newest I can find.  I have turned on PTT in the BIOS and am booting secure UEFI.  I don’t see any the PCRs and my kernel module is throwing an error on loading.  I think I have debugged the problem down to ACPI IO Resources.  The MSFT0101 memory region (as defined in APCI) is at 0xFED40000 – 0xFED4087F.  When the TPM driver (tpm_crb.ko) starts, it reads the command buffer size (0xF80) from the TPM2 command size register and tries to allocate space at starting at 0xFED40080.  This is larger than the size of MSFT0101 and the module loading fails.  So one value is wrong, either the size of MSFT0101 or the command/receive buffer size reported by the TPM2 (PTT) registers.  I have modified the driver to use a smaller buffer size (0x7F0) but that does not work so I think it must require the entire buffer space.

Disassembling the ACPI tables, I can see that the _CRS method returns 0x880 but I don't know enough about ACPI to understand why.  So, is there a newer BIOS I should be using?  I know Intel doesn't like to support Linux, but that is a requirement.  I know that there is active development on this module by several Intel developers and I don't think this is a Linux problem.  Any help would be appreciated.

I cant book my nuc with windows10 iso burned on flashdrive

I have nuc version:5i5RYH.

Iam trying to install windows10 on it

I have flashdisk (SanDisk) Cruzer Glide 32GB which I used my other MAC in order to burn window10 iso in it.

So i formatted the usb with FAT32(also tried fatExt) and burned  into it windows10(Win10_1709_English_x64)

After validating the flashdisk with the windows 10 I plugged it into my nuc and choose to boot from it -> Failed! seems like NUC never manage to boot via that flashdisk.

I have no idea why.. i tried so many times.

So what I did next?

upgrade the nuc's bios settings (using the same flashdrive I downloaded an official bios version from intel website) and right now I have

BIOS VERSION: RYBDWi35.86A.0367.2017.0929.1059

my current processor: Intel R i5-525ou CPU @ 1.6

Even after upgrading, again trying to boot via the flashdrive which has the windows10 iso. no success.

inside the boot screen I have the boot order screen:

at the UEFI tab i see:

Boot driver order : No Boot drive

at the Legacy tab under the Boot drive order I do see the USB flashdrive item in the list (sanDisk cruzer Glide 1.26), together with the SSD drive.

Any idea why (or how) can I actually install windows 10 on my NUC? what am I doing wrong?

(p.s before I tried to install WINDOWS i had a successfull installation of openELEC)

Thank you,

How do I improve Skull Canyon full screen video?

I just got my second Skull Canyon NUC, and I've been using it to run a 4k and two 2k screens 24/7 with video feeds. I've noticed some freezing on certain sites thou, and very high CPU usage, so I was wondering if there was a way to smooth this out? The machine does nothing else really, but I may put some VM's on it down the road.

NUC7I5BNK Power ON from Microsoft XBOX 360 Media Remote not working

I am not sure if it is a bug or a missing feature but since it’s announced that this remote is compatible (NUC Ecosystem Catalog July 2017) should work.

360 Media remote.png

https://www.intel.es/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/technical-specifications/nuc-ecosystem-catalog-2017.pdf

Please add support in BIOS or remove from advertised products as compatible.

NOTE: some old NUC’s has this support in BIOS:

However in last generation NUC’s (NUC7I5BNK) this option is missing in BIOS.

Wifi issue on NUC7i5BNH

Hi, I purchased a new NUC 7th gen straight from Amazon and got an issue on the wifi. My NUC runs on Win10 pro 64 bit, 2x8GB of RAM and Samsung 960 EVO.

The problem is when I'm using this NUC, somehow the wifi reception is lost for certain amount of time, eg: I tested to run ping test on command prompt, and every 10-15 mins, it will start to "Request timed out" and then "Destination host unreachable" or "General Error: Ping transmit failed". I have to wait for around 3-5 minutes and then it will runs normally or I have to reconnect to the connection. This happen to any apps that running including web browser and gaming client such as Steam. It is so frustrating because I can't complete any downloads because of this.

SOLVED. I found out that my router settings was not right.

Case closed.

Network Cable Unplugged on NUC7i7BNH after 1709 Upgrade

$

I just upgraded two NUCs version NUC7i7BNH to Windows 10 1709.  Upon first reboot, both reported the onboard NIC as "Network Cable Unplugged".  The first was behind on NIC drivers and BIOS updates, so I upgraded both drivers and BIOS, no improvement.  The second, was already fully updated when the 1709 upgrade ran.  Uninstalling the drivers completely and switching back to built-in Microsoft drivers did not help.  Oddly enough, the NIC light on the back is on, and the switch reports the port is active.   But nothing within Windows thinks there's a cable plugged in.

I plugged in a USB NIC, that worked fine.  Even tried running Windows Update via the USB NIC, no improvement.  Any idea how to fix??  I presume something must be busted in the driver, but I tried completely uninstalling the Intel network software, and removing the drivers via Device Manager.

Thanks in advance!

Power Saving Problems in NUC 7X

$

Dear All

I have found some NON Understandable Power Saving problems in my NUC 7i5BNK.

1:  The displayed windows will be shrinked and moved to top left conner and piled up togather after monitor resumed from power saving.

This problem is totally non understandable to me.   I am using a 4k monitor, and normally will open about 10 windows at the same time.  I will carefully arange these windows to proper locations and sizes for my working efficency.   I was totally astounded when first time I saw all of my opened windows were shrinked and moved to top left conner and piled up togather.  I have to move and resize all of them to work again.  So, each time when i resume nuc, i will demn it.

2:  The NUC will not goes to sleep

The monitor will go to standby normally, but no matter how long time passed, the NUC will persisted working hard, and not goes to sleep.   Since the monitor can goes to power saving by time, i think windows timer is working.  I can make the NUC go to sleep by press POWER BOTTON or by windows commands.  but I am still curios why NUC will not go to sleep by time.

3:  Keyboard and mouse lose responses when power saving.

Though the NUC will not goes to sleep, but sometime it do make the keyboard and mouse sleep to dead.   This problem may happens after long enough time should the NUC gose to sleep. When this happens, the keyboard and mouse  will lose response.  and then the monitor will not resume from power saving by typing keyboard/mouse.  I have find  a method by pressing Power Botton to make the NUC realy goes to sleep, and then i can use keyboard/mouse to resume it !  but sometime:

4:  NUC crushed when press POWER BOTTON

there are about 1/3 times or less,  when i press power botton to make the NUC gose to sleep,  but NUC will crushed from windows, and will reboot.  at this point, all of my unsaved work will be lost...

5:  The NUC is not a ACPI computer if Intel Graphic Driver not installed.

To test why NUC have power saving problems, I have unload Intel graphic and use Microsoft basic graphic driver insteed.  Both windows 10 1703 and 1709 are tested.  The result is, with only Microsoft Basic Graphic Driver, this NUC will be not a ACPI computer.  where both NUC and monitor can not go to sleep.   In windows power manage screen,  there is Only black screen useable, the computer sleep time box will dispear.  when monitor standby time up, The monitor will display a Black screen, but not cut off signal, so the monitor will not gose standby.  but, at this time, the desktop windows will not be shrinked and moved.

If anyone have similar experiences, do please let Intel knows!

Regards

William Wang

- have downloaded NIC current and older drivers for multiple OSs, not successful

Any advice?

NUC6i7KYK - NUC, Razer Core, Fall Windows 10 Update, Video Disconnect issue - makes sound like USB device disconnect/reconnect

$

I have the Skull Canyon NUC, Razer Core, GTX 1080 and just updated to the Windows 10 Fall Creators update.  As soon as I got back to the desktop after the update, I noticed as soon as I right clicked on the desktop, it sounded as if I had repeatedly connected and disconnected a USB device, as it kept making the connect/disconnect sound.  I initially thought it was a bad USB driver or something, so I disconnected everything but the Razer Core, but it still happened.  I then went to device manager, showed hidden devices and got rid of anything that wasn't being used and tried to re-install what I could, but still the same issue.

I then tried to check the display settings and when I went in there, I will usually see two displays as I have the Razer Core, with GTX 1080 as my primary display connected to it's own monitor and the onboard Intel 580 graphics card with a headless HDMI connector attached.  The display settings show the two displays, but after the Windows 10 update and what I thought was USB issues because of the connect/disconnect sound, it seems that the Intel 580 would be the device that actually disappears as in the display settings screen, the two monitor setup would appear and disappear along with the device disconnect/reconnect sound from the OS.  I removed the headless HDMI connector from the Intel 580, but that did nothing.

I then just disabled the Intel 580 graphics card in Device Manager and that seems to have solved the disconnect/reconnect issue, however, now I can't use my onboard graphics card, which has been an issue sometimes when the Razer Core has randomly disconnected for some reason.

Has anyone else had an issue like this?  And is there any possible fix with drivers and/or firmware for the NUC to solve this?  I'm running the latest drivers/firmware currently.

Any help is appreciated.

Nuc i7BNH Dolby Surround

Hi,

What is the audio driver needed to allow the Nuc i7BNH to be able to use Dolby surround sound via the HDMI?

It was previously working but since an update has stopped and gone missing

I have tried multiple times to install audio drivers but am only able to see stereo as an audio output.

This is being put through a DOLBY supported cinema surround sound system so know for sure it should work as I previously had it working

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
