NUC7i7BNH freezing on workload / not with Hyperthreading off

$

Hi Intel-Team,

we have bought around 80x Intel NUC7i7BNH for our company, all with the same configuration and all with the same customized basic-installation of windows 10 Professional.

- Intel NUC7i7BNH

- 256GB m.2 SATA-SSD Samsung MZNLN256HMHQ PM871a

- 1x 16GB DDR4-2133 RAM Samsung M471A2K43BB1-CPB

- BIOS-Version 0052

We have problems with several freezing NUCs, some working fine (SSU Example: NUC_OK.zip) and some just freezing (SSU Example: NUC_fail.zip).

For more understanding, I mean a system that just stop working with a freezed screen, non functioning mouse and keyboard and no reaction on the power button unless I press it for 10 seconds to hard reset it.

- We installed the systems after updateing the BIOS to version 0048 and later to 0052.

- I "cross-changed" the peripheries (RAM, SSD, PSU) between my both testing machines the freezing was always on the same System

- I installed a Crucial MX200 m.2 SSD instead with the same freezing again

- we recognized that the systems only freezed, when the automatized McAfee-Antivirus fullscan of the system (McAfee Enterprise 8.8) was running and with that run the prozessor ist at 85-100% load, but ...

... 1. the "OK"-System have a lower workload with ~60-90% as mentioned don't freeze

... 2. without that active scan but with active On-Access-Scanner, with AIDA stresstest (CPU at 100%) the System is stable

... 3. without that active scan but with active On-Access-Scanner, with AIDA stresstest (CPU at 100%) AND several copyjobs the System is freezing after a short period

... 4. without that active scan but with DEACTIVATED On-Access-Scanner, with AIDA stresstest (CPU at 100%) AND several copyjobs the System is stable

... 5. now I deactivated Hyperthreading in BIOS and the freezings are gone

Now I am totally confused because it seems that it is no thermal problem, no SSD problem, no memory problem, no McAfee problem nor a combination of it, especially since the known hyperthreading-issue should be fixed with BIOS version 0047

I am not sure how much of our Systems are affected since not every user is reporting properly or sees that problem as the same because we have the BSOD-problem too when the System send the monito to sleep and do not wake it up again (except the energie-savings are deactivated).

btw. I obliterated the IP-Informations in the SSU-Files.

I appreciate some help and/or informations about that issue.

With kind regards DarkTapo

SkullCanyon GPU Instability

Hello,

So I've been running my Skullcanyon as a linux server for almost a year, so far so good. However I moved to another server, and decided to use the skulcanyon as a living room PC. As a server previously, it was used for encoding movies and transcoder, which put the cpu at 100% all the time, however as a living room PC, I installed Steam and started playing some games and the NUC kept crashing (freezing or power off)
It went for days to figure out the problem, including for the fact that I'm using Patriot 2666mhz ram which is incompatible, so I went ahead and bought a Crucial 2133mhz ram. The NUC kept crashing, I reinstalled the OS and updated the bios, and it still crashes randomly on GPU load especially benchmarks. As a last resort, I thought that heat could be an issue and went undervolting the CPU and GPU, CPU was at -80mv, it ran cooler and stable on stress test but the GPU crashed immediately, and then I thought doing the opposite for the gpu would work, I started with small increments of increasing the GPU slice and unslice voltage from stock, it kept crashing till i reached +0.09v offset, no crash but artifact so I increased it to +0.1v and it has yet to crash.

So the TL;DR, GPU has been perfectly stable on tiny over volt, do I have a lemon? Is it safe to keep it at this current setting? At the time of the post I'm still running Heaven benchmark in loop for almost a day (~22hours) and it hasn't crashed yet.

NUC7i3BNH Audio Drivers not working

NUC6CAYH network adapter missing

Good morning

This morning one of my intel Nuc has lost the network adapter.

I reinstalled the drivers and they did not find the network adapter.

Looking at the network connector I have seen that the LEDs do not light even when the cable is connected.

I have opened an RMA waiting for a solution.

One hour later the other of my intel Nuc has also given the same problem.

Any idea what may be happening?

How do I set up an IR device to wake my NUC?

The title pretty much says it all. I can get my Inteset 422-3 to control my Media Portal software but I have no clue how to get it to wake the computer or control it in any way.

NUCi3RYH UEFI USB boot incorrectly detecting device

I work with several NUCi3RYH's. I was using one of them to build a master Window 10 image using audit mode/sysprep. I have 2 USB flash drives and an external USB hard drive that I use in this setup. One flash drive is the Windows 10 installation media, the other flash drive is bootable media for the disk imaging software I use, and the external hard drive is where I store the images. My NUCs boot in UEFI mode. Last night while attempting to reinstall Windows I noticed that the my Windows install flash drive was being detected as the imaging flash drive. The Windows install drive normally shows up in the boot menu as "Lexar USB Flash Drive 8.07". But this time it showed up as "JetFlashTranscend 8GB 8.07" which is my imaging flash drive. No other USB devices were connected except my Windows install drive (Lexar) and my Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse dongle. If I try to boot from it anyway the screen flashes black for a split second like it fails to boot and then comes right back to the boot menu.

It might seem like it is a problem with the Lexar flash drive but I can take it to my other NUC's or other computers and it is detected with the correct ID and boots as expected. Even more strange is that if I boot with both flash drives connected the Transcend will appear as normal but the Lexar will then be detected as my WD Passport which is the external HDD that I use to store my images. If I try booting with all three drives connected then The WD Passport shows in the menu and two instances of the Transcend show up as well. One of them will boot with the imaging software, the other one (clearly the misidentified Lexar) will cause the screen to flicker and come back to the menu. If I boot in legacy mode the drive will show up with the right label but it can't boot because the drive is setup only for booting in UEFI mode. If I boot in mixed mode the drive will be listed twice, one in legacy mode with the correct lablel and one as UEFI with the incorrect Transcend label. If I boot into Windows all devices are detected properly. This issue occurs regardless of which USB port I connect the drive to. This issue seems isolated to UEFI mode on this particular NUC.

I have tried restoring to the BIOS to factory defaults and I have updated the BIOS to the latest version (0361). Nothing changes. Previously it was running BIOS version 0356 when the trouble started.

Can anyone help me figure out what is going on here?

BIOS update for NUC7i5BNH causes fan speed settings to be ignored

I have a new NUC7i5BNH and I noticed that the fan ran at constant speed. I found the Cooling page in the BIOS and set it to Quiet - this allowed the fan to slow down and stop when the CPU was not loaded.

I then updated the BIOS - the previous one had a March date, the new one July. With the new BIOS, the fan runs at a constant 3700RPM no matter what I set for the fan mode. I see several other threads reporting the same problem (but was asked to start a new thread). Given that it worked before the BIOS update, it is evidently not a hardware problem and is instead a bug introduced into the BIOS. How can this be escalated to the proper team to fix it?

Parts compatibility and replacement motherboard

Hi,

Please forgive me if this is obvious or poorly worded - I'm struggling here and am not too tech literate.

Some quick background:

  • I have a NUC DC3217BY.
  • It's been running fine for about two years but in the past month it started turning off randomly. It progressed to the point where it would barely turn on and would continuously try to boot. I could get it to boot to the BIOS screen but could not get it to open windows.
  • It now does not turn on at all. When I press power it blinks (once every 5 seconds - "power-on circuit might have failed")
  • I opened it up and cleaned the fan but didn't see anything obviously wrong.
  • I've been contact with intel support but I haven't figured out the problem

My questions:

  • Any idea what is wrong or what could fix it? (I've pretty much resigned that its not fixable but worth a shot)
  • What replacement board could I get so that I can use my components and don't need to buy new ones? Money is tight at the moment and I don't need a ton of processing power. It looks like most of the boards have 2.5" SSD space and not mSATA, right?
    • 120 GB mSATA SSD
    • Asint 1GB DDR3 Memory SO-DIMM 204pin PC3-10600S 1333MHz SSY3128M8-EDJEF
    • Hynix 2GB 2Rx8 PC3-8500S-7-10-F2 Laptop RAM

Thanks a ton in advance

Remote Keyboard app problem after Windows 10 (or BIOS) update

I have a NUC 7I3BNH (Win 10) connected to my 4K TV as  media PC, and have successfully used the Intel Remote Keyboard application on an android tablet for over six months with no problems. Recently the PC updated Windows and the BIOS (BIOS Version 0054), and I can't use the 'mouse' or 'keyboard' to input the PIN.

After boot up, the mouse controls the cursor, and clicking on the first screen brings up the log in screen asking for the PIN.  The mouse and cursor is still working on this screen, but the PIN textbox will not accept any input. Clicking on the restart/power down icon in the lower right corner responds to mouse input. And of course, if I plug in a USB keyboard and mouse, I can input the PIN and continue on.

Uninstalling the app on the PC and tablet and installing latest versions of software (as of 11/14) make no difference.

I *assume* that this is a software incompatability between Windows/BIOS and Remote Keyboard, but was wondering if anyone else had seen this problem.

NUC7i3BNH and Samsung UE55KU6400 HDMI problems

Hi everyone,

I've recently purchased a NUC7i3BNH and after installing memory and SSD I tried to connect to my Samsung UHD TV model UE55KU6400 and only got a black screen, no intel logo, nothing.

Then I tried to plug to my older Phillips TV and worked fine, installed Windows 10 and then tried to hot swap the cable to back the samsung and voila! Glorious 3840 x 2160 working just fine.

However, if I change source or turn off the TV and try to get back to Windows 10, I get a weird pink screen for a second and then a "No source" message from my Samsung. If i try to reboot the NUC, only blank screen again. The only way to get the screen back to the Samsung, is by doing the hot swap trick with the older phillips.

I'm no expert but I've spent the weekend learning about HDMI handshake issues and have tried updating all the drivers, the DEVCON trick and nothing works apart from hot swap. As that is not a practical solution I would like to ask if anyone can help.

Thanks!

Hi Guys

I have the following problem, 2 out of 5 times I start the NUC, windows 10 hangs at the start or the start menu or edge does not work.

Even though I have all the drivers updated, the intel update tool tells me to update 3 drivers. The Bios is updated to the latest version.

I have formatted the PC and I have the same problems again.

The first time I installed windows, it was done through the BIOS, I thought that was the problem, the second time I installed it I did it through UEFI with the same result

My NUC is the 5CPYH model. I have a CRUCIAL RAM of 8GB DDR3L. My SSD is a Zheino SATA II 120 gb.

¿Can you help me please?

Hey Everyone

I'm chasing x86 drivers for my 6th Gen i5 NUC. I have the display adapters, but I can only find x64 versions of the LAN, WLAN, Sound Card and Chipset packages on the download portal.

Could anyone point me in the right direction for these?

NUC6i7KYK media playback crash

Hello

I just got the Skull canyon nuc 3 months ago. I've had been using the NUC D54250wyk since 2014 with no issues.

It's connected to a Pioneer SC-LX73 reciever (via HDMI).

My tv is a Sony kdl-65hx920.

Using windows 10 pro x64 with all the latest updates.

Using the latest bios and graphics drivers(both updated yesterday)

The skull canyon nuc i have has severe issues with media playback for some reason. I have this issue both with kodi and mp-hc(with madVR).

At at random point in a movie or tv show the whole machine just locks up with the image frozen and the sound looping. The only solution is to hold the power button on the nuc untill i shuts off.

I've also had this happen if i try to play games on it.

Is there any way to figure out why this happens?

Skull Canyon audio output to AVR

I have a Marantz NR 1607 receiver. I have the Skull Canyon running to that receiver and from the receiver to my 4k TV. The TV looks great but my audio is not working. When I select anything other than stereo in windows it simply does not give any sound to my 3.1 setup.

I've downloaded the complete driver package today and installed everything from scratch after a brand new windows 10 install. I have new high bandwidth 4k hdmi cables. I have updated windows with everything as well.

Could you please help me figure out why this device will not output 3.1 audio but instead only works in stereo. I have also made sure the Marantz is the device chosen when you click on the speaker. When I run the testing or any youtube videos while in stereo mode there are audio dropouts. If I click play it takes a second for the audio to start and when it does it's obviously in stereo mode. Using the remote on my receiver I can pull up on screen where the receiver shows the input as being stereo signal and it does acknowledge I have a 3.1 speaker setup that is complete. I know the receiver works fine as I also have an appleTV plugged into it that detects everything and works flawlessly.

NUC6i7KYK keeps freezing (With Crucial Memory BLS2K16G4S240FSD/CT8902660), help needed please...

Hi,

I have an NUC617KYK, which was bought about a year ago, but was unused.

Last week I bought a new SSD and 32gb of Memory to finally get it going..

The Memory is;

Ballistix Sport LT 32GB Kit (16GBx2) DDR4 2400 MT/s (PC4-19200) SODIMM 260-Pin - BLS2K16G4S240FSD

The SSD is;

Crucial MX300 525GB M.2 (2280) Internal Solid State Drive - CT525MX300SSD

I cannot get the NUC to remain stable, it constantly freezes.

The screen stays on, nothing is garbled, but the mouse and anything onscreen just freezes, if it is in sleep mode it freezes with a black screen.

It freezes during a Win10 install. It freezes after 10, 20, 12, 28 minutes, when Idle or under load.. No rhyme or reason really.

Usually just as  I click the mouse though

I have managed to install Win10 by lowering the CAS Latency and taking the lid off, which definitely helped a little (enough to install Win10).

(Latest BIOS and latest MS Win10 Iso from MS, and latest driver set from Intel)

Debian 9.0 installed beautifully (in non-graphical install) and runs pretty smooth until pushed at which point it also freezes in the same way as windows.

Having gone through the forums here a little, I can see  that my memory is technically unverified,

although I chose it because the crucial website listed it as compatible and a couple of online reviews used it in tests and seemed to have no issues.

Has anyone had any issues (or luck) with this memory?

I have tried changing the timings, speed, and multiplier down, but it hasn't made any difference, the NUC eventually freezes.

I'm a little unsure about how I should be changing the settings and basically just bumping them down a few notches.

I don't even know half of the memory settings in the BIOS, the last time I played with memory timings it was literally the turn of the century! (a Pentium II  if I recall...)

Should I return the memory and get a verified set? or Is it the NUC that needs returning?

Or can a NUC guru help me out with memory timings (if it is that)?

Thanks

NUC7i5BNK HDR support

I have a Nuc7i5BNK with Iris Plus640 Graphics but the latest driver, 4849 which should enable support for HDR, wont install and says the driver is not supported on my hardware. The Iris Plus640 is listed on on the supported hardware list for this driver on the download site but still wont install.

I am still running driver 4815 without any HDR. Should i wait for a specific driver for Nuc?

After installing the latest Windows 10 update 1703, I get the message 'Mode not supported please change the resolution on your input device'. I am unable to use my Intel® NUC Kit NUC7i5BNH used with a Samsung TV. Is there a new graphics driver that I need?

I see there are lots of others with similar issues.
