NUC5i7ryh and Intel Network Adapter

I installed the latest Gigabit Ethernet Network Connection Driver, dated 27-Oct-2017, located here:

Download Intel® Gigabit Ethernet Network Connection Driver for Windows 8.1*, for the Intel® NUC

And it appeared to install without any issues. However, I am concerned about it after looking at the driver Properties page from Network Adapters in Device Manager.  When I look at the network adapter’s Properties page and Driver tab, it shows “Digital Signer: Not digitally signed.” Then, in Driver Details, I can see four files listed, one of which is “C:\Windows\system32\e1d64x64.din”. It shows Unknown for Provider, File version, and Copyright.  These does not seem right to me.

I want to enable the Secure Boot functionality in NUC's BIOS. First, however, I believe that I need to get this issue fixed because, if I am not mistaken, Secure Boot will not work properly with an unsigned driver.  Any advice would be welcome. Thanks.

NUC7i5BNK - HDMI audio problem with WASAPI 44.1/16

Running Windows 10Pro 64bit Fall Creator's update connected with an HDMI cable to a DENON receiver. I can't get the NUC7i5BNK to output audio at 44.1/16 using WASAPI.

Things that I already tried:

  1. Updating BIOS to ver 0054
  2. Updating HDMI Firmware to 1.72
  3. Updating Graphic driver to 15.60.0.4849_BN
  4. Install software guard extensions 1.8.106.40803
  5. Currently using JRiver Media Center 64bit. Updated to latest version
  6. Tried using TIDAL
  7. Tried to output sound through Windows own audio device properties (advance tab). Selected 16 bit 44100 CD quality

Basically the problem is such: The NUC7i5BNK is not outputting any sound for 2 channels audio at 44.1/16 when using WASAPI. It will output 48/16, 96/24 or even 192/24 (2 channels) but not 44.1. Strangely enough the applications do not detect any fault, even JRiver displays the audio graphs in main window top and the DSP analyzer window.

Switching the output in JRiver to direct sound will return the audio, but then I guess it's because it's being routed through the system audio mixer and probably re-sampled to another frequency.

I have no problems with multi channel PCM audio decoded by JRiver or even DD AC3 pass through. It's just 44.1/16 2 channel audio that refuse to play through HDMI.

I also tried to output the sound through an external USB DAC and it works flawlessly, so obviously it's not an application problem and is clearly restricted to the WASAPI implementation of the HDMI audio driver.

TIA

NUC6i7KYK Intel ME vulnerable

Hallo,

The Intel ME Vulnerability Detection tool said that my NUC6i7KYK

is vulnerable. I updated to the latest BIOS .50 but the Intel ME Firmware

is still vulnerable. Is there any chance to update the Firmware manually?

The ME packs on the support site just consist of drivers and not the FW itself.

Will there be any update soon ?

Thanks.

NUC7i7BNH freezing on workload / not with Hyperthreading off

$

Hi Intel-Team,

we have bought around 80x Intel NUC7i7BNH for our company, all with the same configuration and all with the same customized basic-installation of windows 10 Professional.

- Intel NUC7i7BNH

- 256GB m.2 SATA-SSD Samsung MZNLN256HMHQ PM871a

- 1x 16GB DDR4-2133 RAM Samsung M471A2K43BB1-CPB

- BIOS-Version 0052

We have problems with several freezing NUCs, some working fine (SSU Example: NUC_OK.zip) and some just freezing (SSU Example: NUC_fail.zip).

For more understanding, I mean a system that just stop working with a freezed screen, non functioning mouse and keyboard and no reaction on the power button unless I press it for 10 seconds to hard reset it.

- We installed the systems after updateing the BIOS to version 0048 and later to 0052.

- I "cross-changed" the peripheries (RAM, SSD, PSU) between my both testing machines the freezing was always on the same System

- I installed a Crucial MX200 m.2 SSD instead with the same freezing again

- we recognized that the systems only freezed, when the automatized McAfee-Antivirus fullscan of the system (McAfee Enterprise 8.8) was running and with that run the prozessor ist at 85-100% load, but ...

... 1. the "OK"-System have a lower workload with ~60-90% as mentioned don't freeze

... 2. without that active scan but with active On-Access-Scanner, with AIDA stresstest (CPU at 100%) the System is stable

... 3. without that active scan but with active On-Access-Scanner, with AIDA stresstest (CPU at 100%) AND several copyjobs the System is freezing after a short period

... 4. without that active scan but with DEACTIVATED On-Access-Scanner, with AIDA stresstest (CPU at 100%) AND several copyjobs the System is stable

... 5. now I deactivated Hyperthreading in BIOS and the freezings are gone

Now I am totally confused because it seems that it is no thermal problem, no SSD problem, no memory problem, no McAfee problem nor a combination of it, especially since the known hyperthreading-issue should be fixed with BIOS version 0047

I am not sure how much of our Systems are affected since not every user is reporting properly or sees that problem as the same because we have the BSOD-problem too when the System send the monito to sleep and do not wake it up again (except the energie-savings are deactivated).

btw. I obliterated the IP-Informations in the SSU-Files.

I appreciate some help and/or informations about that issue.

With kind regards DarkTapo

Stuttering with Plex media server (1080p and 4k) and playback of 4k content on VLC

Hi,

I have two issues which I was hoping the community could help with:

1) Playback from a PLEX media server stutters with 4K and FHD content. Internet connection is more than adequate: wired, 100mb.

2) Playback of 4k content (stored on my NUC - 1TB SSD) using VLC player stutters. Unusually, there is no stuttering when playing the same 4K content using the native Windows player.

Any help or guidance on these issues would be appreciated..... hopefully it's a simple fix  :-)

NUC NUC7I5BNH won't power off

After installing the Windows 10 Fall Update my NUC7I5BNH won't power off unless I press and hold the power button until it turns off (hard off).

If I shutdown via Windows it just immediately starts Windows back up. I don't even get to the BIOS/UEFI splash screen.

If I press the power button on the front of the NUC the same behavior happens.

NUC6CAYH screen turns black for a second (VGA)

Just bought a NUC6CAYH and installed Windows 10 Pro x64 a couple of days ago. A few minutes after Windows Update had installed the Intel graphics driver, the display connected through the NUC's VGA port started to turn black for a second or two every couple of minutes. During the Windows installation and before the box was connected to the Internet (and Windows was able to do updates), the problem did not exist.

To get rid of this annoying behavior, I started to look for updates and flashed the BIOS up to version 41 (from 38) and installed graphics driver 4849, which was just released a couple of days ago. Unfortunately, that did not solve the problem. I started searching this forum and found that many others are having the same problem. As outlined in other threads, this clearly is a Intel Windows driver problem. As others have tried, I installed Linux (Ubuntu 16.04.3) and I am not experiencing this annoying effect under Linux. So please fix this problem in your Windows driver - I specifically picked this box because of its VGA connector in support of my old monitor. It is shocking to me that a company like Intel is not capable to solve a driver problem that has been reported by so many so often for months.

Hi Intel Forum,

I have just installed a NUC6CAY(H) and receive an error message when booting up "CMOS time not set. Does this mean I need to replace the battery or do I need to reset the time. Please help with both if applicable.

Unsupported signal. Check device output

New NUC7i7BNH system with 32Gb Optane Memory, 16Gb RAM, 1,5Tb HDD.

I am trying to connect system to Sony Bravia TV via HDMI cable/port.

For first week of using the system I had no problem connecting to TV.

Late last week, following either a Win10 update and/or Intel BIOS update, I have not been able to connect to TV.  Now, after POST,  I get a black screen with error display - 'Unsupported signal. Check device output.'

I am presuming it is a problem with BIOS as computer doesn't even get to point of loading operating system.

Do I need to roll back to previous BIOS or is their a new BIOS fix?

Thanks,

David Sanderson

NUC6i7KYK Not Recognizing Ram

$

I have a NUC6i7KYK that has 32gb of ram installed (2x16gb); however, it is only recognizing and using 8gb of ram (two 4gb) in both Windows and system BIOS. It is running Windows 8.1 64 Bit.

To troubleshoot so far I have...

- Updated to the latest BIOS [KYSKLi70.86A] and reset to default settings

- Updated all drivers

- Removed cards, reinstalled cards, switched cards positions

- Tried one card at a time and both cards register as 4gb of ram (despite being 16gb)

- Windows memory test with no errors found

- Original Nintendo cartridge style blowing on cards (true sign of desperation)

- Checked Windows advanced boot settings to ensure that "maximum memory" box is not checked

- Scoured the interwebs for related forum threads.

This Nuc was given to us by Intel's PR services department in exchange for a social media review. Part of the terms of the deal was that it would come pre-upgraded with 32gb of ram. The ram was installed by someone at Intel (probably in Portland) before I ever received it, so one could assume that it is not a compatibility issue. That being said, it was installed with 2x16gb Crucial cards model number: ct4g4sf8213.c8fbd1

I personally installed the Windows 8.1 64 bit that appears to run fine with no other issues.

Any additional troubleshooting ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thank you ahead of time.

NUC6i7KYK - NUC, Razer Core, Fall Windows 10 Update, Video Disconnect issue - makes sound like USB device disconnect/reconnect

$

I have the Skull Canyon NUC, Razer Core, GTX 1080 and just updated to the Windows 10 Fall Creators update.  As soon as I got back to the desktop after the update, I noticed as soon as I right clicked on the desktop, it sounded as if I had repeatedly connected and disconnected a USB device, as it kept making the connect/disconnect sound.  I initially thought it was a bad USB driver or something, so I disconnected everything but the Razer Core, but it still happened.  I then went to device manager, showed hidden devices and got rid of anything that wasn't being used and tried to re-install what I could, but still the same issue.

I then tried to check the display settings and when I went in there, I will usually see two displays as I have the Razer Core, with GTX 1080 as my primary display connected to it's own monitor and the onboard Intel 580 graphics card with a headless HDMI connector attached.  The display settings show the two displays, but after the Windows 10 update and what I thought was USB issues because of the connect/disconnect sound, it seems that the Intel 580 would be the device that actually disappears as in the display settings screen, the two monitor setup would appear and disappear along with the device disconnect/reconnect sound from the OS.  I removed the headless HDMI connector from the Intel 580, but that did nothing.

I then just disabled the Intel 580 graphics card in Device Manager and that seems to have solved the disconnect/reconnect issue, however, now I can't use my onboard graphics card, which has been an issue sometimes when the Razer Core has randomly disconnected for some reason.

Has anyone else had an issue like this?  And is there any possible fix with drivers and/or firmware for the NUC to solve this?  I'm running the latest drivers/firmware currently.

Any help is appreciated.

NUC6CAYH screen turns black for a second

Hi. I`m having issues with a recently buyed NUC6CAYH. The screen will randomly turn completely black for a second or two. (it happend once every 4 or 5 minutes or once every 4 to 5 seconds)

It has windows 10 Pro installed with latest bios (040) and drivers installed.

It is connected via VGA cable to a LCD display (resolution: 1440x900@60Hz).

The things i`ve tried so far:

  • lowering the display resolution to other than the native display stops the flickering or at least makes it less frequent.
  • I had keyboard, mouse and two printers connected to a back USB port through a 2.0 USB hub. removing the USB hub eliminate de flickering (or at least it has not flicker once in about an hour) [Hub works flawlessly in other PCs]
  • Connecting mouse keyboard and two USB hdds makes the flickering happen at least once every 30 minutes.

Thanks in advance and excuse my english.

multi-color LED ring?

$

I just received my NUC7i3BNH yesterday, and everything is going great, I am in the process of configuring it to replace my existing HTPC laptop.

One question, on the presentation page of the NUC, it says: "A multi-color LED ring lets you personalize your NUC with the look you want."

The ring i see is always blue, and flashes as would a cpu light, so I am wondering why its described as "personalizable" and "multi-color"

I have searched for explanation about this to no avail

Nuc7i5BNH Updated BIOS, now it's loud.

I bought a NUC i7 a while back and returned it because the noise was unbearable.  I got the I5 version, thinking it wouldn't get as hot, so the fan wouldn't need to run so much.  It was nice and quiet, but I was having issues getting the HDMI display to wake up after turning on my TV/Receiver...so I updated the BIOS from whatever 04/2017 version it had, to the latest one.  As soon as I turned it booted it up again...same damn noise as the i7....Loud whirring sound, like a jet engine.  Open a web browser...it goes even louder like a hair dryer.

Can I roll back my BIOS to what it was??? I did set the fan to quiet, which helps a bit...but I can't sleep with this thing in my room the way it is.

Integrator Toolkit, Custom Splash Screen, and .BIN files

$

I'm using ITK 6.1.6 and I've run into a snag regarding the OEM Product Key. I'm supposed to convert the OEM Product Key into a  .BIN file that must be exactly 49 bytes in size. The Integrator Toolkit User Guide (Version 6.1.6) says this can be obtained from Microsoft. I've spoken to three different people at Microsoft who say any OEM Product Key support is handled by the manufacturer only and not by them.

Online documentation for Windows 10 ADK (Assessment and Development Kit) mentions the use of OA3Tool (OEM Activation Tools 3) to perform this conversion, but running oa3tool.exe does nothing more than flash a command prompt screen for a fraction of a second and then disappears. I am waiting to hear back from Microsoft on how to run this executable.

I've tried to import a custom splash screen file, and have successfully created a JPEG that does not return an error code, but the process will not complete without the .BIN file.

Has anyone has success in getting this to work?

I have a NUC7i7BNH and NUC6i5SYK. Any information and recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
