nuc7i3bnk no video on LG OLED 65B7A

the title is a bit missleading, so let me explain my setup.

Untitled Diagram.jpg

I've got an intel NUC7i3bnk hooked up to an Onkyo TX-RZ710 receiver.   This, in turn, is hooked up via a 20-25ft HDMI active cable, that in turn is hooked to a wall jack.   The wall jack has a CL2 HDMI 2.0 (18Gbps) cable that runs through the walls + ceiling to another wall jack behind the TV, which in turn has a 3ft HDMI cable hooked to an LG OLED 65" B7A tv.    When I had a Samsung 1080p TV on the wall, there was no issue at all playing videos (I use Plex Media Player embedded on the NUC).   As soon as I replaced the TV, The NUC would refuse to display video on the tv.   At first I thought it was my receiver (I had a TX-NR636 before), so I replaced it with a more modern one, but this didn't improve things.   Then I thought that it might be the HDMI cables (shudder at the thought of replacing the one in the ceiling/walls), so I grabbed my work laptop and plugged it into the  end of the cable coming out of the Onkyo (so as close to the NUC as possible), and TADA!  i get 4K video out from my laptop, so I know it's not the cable from the Onkyo -> wall -> ceiling-> TV.   This led me to deduce it was the NUC, except for I then tried to plug the NUC directly into the TV, and guess what?  It worked. To rule out any of the other cables, I tried placing the NUC behind the first wall jack as well, to rule out the 20ft cable, this did not change things.   The only way I can get it to work is to go directly to the TV.  If it passes through any other cables, it refuses to display any video on the TV.

So now I'm baffled.  I'm running the latest BIOS 0057, as well as I believe 1.66 HDMI firmware (I see a 1.72, but it's a pain for me to update it since I'm running embedded PLEX player, woudl have to reformat with a win10 trial).   It would seem to me that the NUC is having some sort of handsake issue, but I can't explain it.  I've tried both HDMI and using a USB-C to hdmi adapter, I get absolutely ZERO video when I have the NUC take the "long way" to the TV.    I'm still convinced it's some sort of handshake error, but I can't explain it.   Again, the nuc worked fine with a 1080 TV, but as soon as I went native 4k, it suddenly is having problems.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Poor Logitech bluetooth keyboard/mouse performance with NUC

Hi everyone. I had an ongoing issue with my Logitech bluetooth keyboard and mouse performance with NUC6CAYS, which the response is bad. For example, I didn't use the keyboard for 1 minute, then type something, it will take at least 2 seconds for the character to appear. Likewise for the mouse, it will take at least 2 seconds for it to respond. Over time, this adds up to a lot of frustration. Here's what I had done:

- Tried all power-management settings

- Re-install my machine on the included memory. i.e. no additional software. Updated bios and drivers. (Intel Wireless Bluetooth). CPU utilization less than 5%.

- Re-install my machine with a new SSD. i.e. no additional software. Updated bios and drivers. (Intel Wireless Bluetooth). CPU utilization less than 5%.

- Even added new 4GB RAM. i.e. no additional software. Updated bios and drivers. (Intel Wireless Bluetooth). CPU utilization less than 5%.

All the above didn't work. I had a support ticket but as my NUC is new, I tried not to replace it, as I had a feeling that it is not due to the hardware. I owned several bluetooth keyboard and mouse, so here's some of my tests for the keyboard:

- Paired my Logitech K375 keyboard with my Lenovo laptop and it work flawlessly. You will think that the NUC may be faulty but then, .......

- Paired my Kanex bluetooth keyboard with my NUC and it work flawlessly! i.e. Typing "hello" appears on my screen instantly. The Kanex also worked fine with my laptop.

- Paired both my Logitech K375 and Kanex bluetooth keyboard to my NUC at the same time. Typing "hello" with the Kanex keyboard appeared instantly but takes 2 seconds on the Logitech, regardless of which keyboard I typed first.

- My wireless NIC is disabled, as I used a wired connection, so interference is absolutely not the issue. Moreover, it worked with my Kanex.

Support wanted to replace my NUC, as they saw that I had tried everything. I don't know how to troubleshoot anymore but I narrowed it down to an issue with Logitech-branded bluetooth devices with Intel NUC. Running the "Logitech Options" software also never worked, regardless of what compatibility settings I used. It just showed "Scanning", then nothing appeared. Anyone had the same issues or has any advice?

Had my little NUC5Y.... (the little family friendly one with Windows pre-installed, Pentium N3700 it says) for over 2 years now. It came with Win10 and made its faults obvious the moment I connected to the internet by demanding a multi-gig update. Its little 32Gig SSD is barely, just barely adequate for Win10, and that single first update nearly maxed out C: , a problem I've had to live with ever since. By now, with nothing but Windows as far as poss on C: ALL browsers (Edge, Chrome, Firefox, even Pale moon!) are slow and eventually demand too much of the poor little thing and hang.

And now, it needs another update and is demanding I free 8Gig of space on C:. I have now idea how I can do this. What I really want to do is to reinstall Windows to the much bigger 'proper' drive I installed from new, or at the very least to reinstall Win10 from scratch. How can I go about this? I really think its up to Intel to provide a tool, it's not as if the problem was unforeseen after all.

Failing that, Linux suggestions anyone? I'm much better disposed to Linux now see how well my Android phone works, without dragging the dying M$ around with it!

NUC7i7BNx - Led lights

Hello Intel,

To get more information for the review I'm writing about the NUC, I need to know about led lights.

I believe that both the rectangular light (A) and the power button light (B) can be configured to receive functions, change color or even switch off via machine setup.

Can you tell what options you can configure and how to do this?

Thank you

OS crash with 16Gb of RAM

Hi,

I've finally purchased a 16Gb Kit from Crucial with 2x8Gb for my NUC5i5RYH http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/nuc5i5ryh/CT6997365

When both sticks are in, the OS crashes during boot time: Black screen, no response, not even CTRL+ALT+DEL, hard reboot needed.

- Trying to reinstall any OS, it crashes half way (LinuxMint, Windows Server 2012)

- Sometimes, Ubuntu server (no GUI) would install but have the same crash at random times.

- It works fine with 8Gb, with either stick of RAM in either slot, which is frustrating.

- The 16GB are recognised in the BIOS

- BIOS is updated to the latest version

- I've been trying to get some logs by installing an OS with 8Gb installed and then adding the other 8Gb stick but the crash is instant and I haven't found any interesting logs so far.

I work in IT support so I should have been able to figure it out but I suspect a hardware fault with the NUC.

Is there anything else I should test to make sure either way?

NUC6CAYH: VGA black scr 1-2sec / HDMI flickering: We need a solution

$

I work about 15 years in IT, mainly as a Windows server specialist, but also desktop support / integration and software testing.

Since they first came out, I've been using and recommending Intel NUC's, by now I've installed about 30 of them, mostly with very happy customers as a result.

About the NUC6CAYH..

Recently a client of mine needed some simple Windows 10 pc's with a VGA connection, so I installed 3x NUC6CAYH.

The NUC's have very different production dates, yet ALL of them have the same issue of 1-2 seconds of black screen, sometimes as much as every 2 minutes.

After trying everything (changing screens, changing cables, trying different BIOS versions, trying different graphics driver versions, ...), without any result, I discovered on this forum that a lot of users are experiencing the same issues.

An issue like this is not something I would expect in a 2017 product (especially coming from Intel).

The client bought new screens with a HDMI connection, only to find out this also gives flickering every few minutes, again, on ALL of them! (the screen doesn't go completely black as when using VGA, it's less severe, a kind of fast flicker).

Needless to say this is a very disappointing experience for both my client and me.  Not to mention the cost of troubleshooting, only to find out it's a faulty product.

This looks like a design flaw, I can't believe Intel is still selling these!

Probably only a few % of the people with this issue will find the way to this forum, so that means a huge amount of frustrated customers will hesitate to buy an Intel product again.

I'm sure Intel knows exactly what the issue is, they should, after all these months and probably thousands of these units returning.

So my question is:

To other NUC6CAYH (with Windows 10) users:

Is there anyone here who's problem was actually completely solved (Please specificy if you use HDMI or VGA) if yes, which actions did you exactly take?

To Intel support:

As this issue seems so widespread, please tell us what the root cause is.  If you're not aware of the root cause, please escalate this to the right engineers to troubleshoot.  My feeling is that this specific issue is causing damage to Intel's good name, not to mention the huge troubleshooting costs for all people still buying this product.

Is there an actual solution? Will the problem be 100% solved with a replacement from Intel?

Thanks!

SkullCanyon GPU Instability

Hello,

So I've been running my Skullcanyon as a linux server for almost a year, so far so good. However I moved to another server, and decided to use the skulcanyon as a living room PC. As a server previously, it was used for encoding movies and transcoder, which put the cpu at 100% all the time, however as a living room PC, I installed Steam and started playing some games and the NUC kept crashing (freezing or power off)
It went for days to figure out the problem, including for the fact that I'm using Patriot 2666mhz ram which is incompatible, so I went ahead and bought a Crucial 2133mhz ram. The NUC kept crashing, I reinstalled the OS and updated the bios, and it still crashes randomly on GPU load especially benchmarks. As a last resort, I thought that heat could be an issue and went undervolting the CPU and GPU, CPU was at -80mv, it ran cooler and stable on stress test but the GPU crashed immediately, and then I thought doing the opposite for the gpu would work, I started with small increments of increasing the GPU slice and unslice voltage from stock, it kept crashing till i reached +0.09v offset, no crash but artifact so I increased it to +0.1v and it has yet to crash.

So the TL;DR, GPU has been perfectly stable on tiny over volt, do I have a lemon? Is it safe to keep it at this current setting? At the time of the post I'm still running Heaven benchmark in loop for almost a day (~22hours) and it hasn't crashed yet.

Remote Keyboard Windows app not launching

Hi,

The app won't launch anymore on my computer. I tried reinstalling after an uninstall and reboot, but it just doesn't launch. I see a "cmd" window that quickly open and close. How am I suppose to scan the QR code if the app won't launch?  I've attached the SSU report.

Except for the graphics and LAN drivers, I've applied all of the Intel updates available + remote keyboard Windows app.

Not sure what else I can do at this point...

Thanks in advance for your help.

NUC7ixBNH - Memory

Hello Intel,

Before, thanks for always answering my doubts posted.

I bought a NUC for a customer and the supplier of the memories (16GBx2) reported not being able to ship before December 22nd and this forces me to buy again to meet the customer on time.

My question is?

This NUC. (In case his is the NUC7I3BNH) can receive 16GB of memory in only 1 comb? ie just use one slot (16GB) and leave the other slot empty, so when he wants to add more memory and have 32GB in the future?

Logically, I think so, but I've learned that dealing with the manufacturer will always prevent trouble.

I intend to buy the one from this link:

Amazon.com: Crucial 16GB Single DDR4 2133 MT/s (PC4-17000) DR x8 SODIMM 260-Pin Memory - CT16G4SFD8213: Computers & Acce…

Although it is possible to leave an empty slot, is there any record that makes use of both slots to avoid problems or is it really safe to use one of the slots only? For me, it really is indifferent to use one or both slots.

Thanks again.

NUC D33217CK video output stopped

My NUC D33217 stopped to output video to hdmi. I checked hdmi connector and screen on another computer and it works fine.

The caps lock LED of my usb keyboard also does not light when it should. I checked on another computer not a keyboard problem.

When connecting the mouse, its LEDs are on.

I tried the jumper settings in normal, configuration or recovery mode. I didn't change anything. (If I understood weel if something goes wrong I should here something when POST run)

I tried to boot without SSD and without ram. No chance at all. Still no video.

I forgot to mention the power LED seems OK. Continuous blue colour but I don't even see any splash screen at anytime during boot.

Is there any chance the battery may be the reason of problem and subsuting it may solve problem?

Is there any chance it is not dead? What could I try ?

Brand new NUC Skull Canyon problems.

Ok so I just bought a Skull Canyon NUC installed Crucial 8GB 2133 MHz CT8G4SFD8213.16FA2 and a Samsung 512GB 960 PRO NVME MZ-V6P512 these 2 hardwares were Intel Validated. So i plug it up and pushed the power button nothing happened, then I pressed and held the power button nothing happened. So I then checked the power cable it's plugged in looks good, power brick is getting slightly warm as is the unit itself. So I press the power button again and nothing happens so this time I keep pressing the power button and after about 20-30 seconds of continues pressing unit turns on and my monitor picks up the signal for a split second and I have nothing on the screen just blackness the fan is spinning so I press and hold the power button and the unit turns off then I unplug it. I open up the unit re-seat the memory and the drive just to be on the safe side and I have to start the whole procedure again. I press the button and it turned on after 15 presses this time the power led indicator stayed off but the fan is running no signal to the monitor once again HDMI or DP doesn't matter which. So I call over my buddy with a SC NUC and use his memory and M.2 SSD same thing happens I can't seem to get this thing working. I literally just took it out the box a few hours ago. Can someone give me any help does this sound like an RMA issue?

Nuc7i5BNH Updated BIOS, now it's loud.

I bought a NUC i7 a while back and returned it because the noise was unbearable.  I got the I5 version, thinking it wouldn't get as hot, so the fan wouldn't need to run so much.  It was nice and quiet, but I was having issues getting the HDMI display to wake up after turning on my TV/Receiver...so I updated the BIOS from whatever 04/2017 version it had, to the latest one.  As soon as I turned it booted it up again...same damn noise as the i7....Loud whirring sound, like a jet engine.  Open a web browser...it goes even louder like a hair dryer.

Can I roll back my BIOS to what it was??? I did set the fan to quiet, which helps a bit...but I can't sleep with this thing in my room the way it is.

Intel NUC M.2 expansion capabilities

Hi,

I bought an Intel NUC5I3RYH and I need some more details on the M.2 connector: normally it is used to host an SSD, but in my case I was wondering if I could use the standard SATA port for the hard disk and, instead, the M.2 connector to host a M.2 capture card to acquire an HDMI input. On the technical datasheet it is reported "Expansion Capabilities: One M.2 connector supporting M.2 2242, M.2 2260, and M.2 2280 (key type M) modules" but no more information are provided.

Is there something in particular I have to do to make this work?

Any suggest will be particularly appreciated.

Thank you very much,

Sandro

NUC skull canyon

Win 10 Pro 64 with 32 g Ram

All connected devices work fine for a while. Then I get a message like: Last USB device not recognized and the keyboard quits working.

What I've tried:

  1. Re starting. This works fine for a little while then the problem reappears.
  2. Swapping keyoards, using a wired and wireless model. no change
  3. Keeping all drivers updated using the Intel tool. No change.

Any ideas? Thanks

Texture bug?

I'm using a 3D graphic editor program that uses OpenGL.  After updating to the Skull Canyon NUC6I7KYK on 4 machines, this program is now having an issue.

Whenever we click a texture it changes ALL the textures in the 3D model to that texture.  Almost like the NUC has a graphics bug that is causing the most recent texture loaded to overwrite all the other textures for display.

I have downloaded the latest graphics drivers.  Anybody have any ideas?

NUC6CAYH screen turns black for a second

Hi. I`m having issues with a recently buyed NUC6CAYH. The screen will randomly turn completely black for a second or two. (it happend once every 4 or 5 minutes or once every 4 to 5 seconds)

It has windows 10 Pro installed with latest bios (040) and drivers installed.

It is connected via VGA cable to a LCD display (resolution: 1440x900@60Hz).

The things i`ve tried so far:

  • lowering the display resolution to other than the native display stops the flickering or at least makes it less frequent.
  • I had keyboard, mouse and two printers connected to a back USB port through a 2.0 USB hub. removing the USB hub eliminate de flickering (or at least it has not flicker once in about an hour) [Hub works flawlessly in other PCs]
  • Connecting mouse keyboard and two USB hdds makes the flickering happen at least once every 30 minutes.

Thanks in advance and excuse my english.
