Can NUC6i5SYK using DisplayPort support 4K HDR @ 60hz with OpenELEC/Kodi?

$

Dear community,

I know similar questions have been asked but they are not exactly specific to what I'm asking. I am waiting for a Sony XBR65X900E TV so I'll be switching to 4K. I currently have an old Zotac Xbox running OpenELEC and Kodi through 1080p HDMI to my receiver. I am planning on installing OpenELEC on my NUC and using an Mini DisplayPort adapter-to-HDMI 2.0 to plug in my 4K receiver, then the receiver will send the 4K signal to the TV.

Before I do all that, I was wondering if the NUC6i5SYK on Linux will truly be able to run 2160p feed with HDR (8 bit) at 60hz? It's not very clear from all the different sources I'm reading. If it can't do HDR at 60hz then I guess I'll try to look for alternative. Also, since it can only do software decoding, will be CPU be running at maximum capacity for ultra high bit rate MKVs? I've got MKVs of about 15GB per hour in 2160p definition. Will the NUC be easily able to handle such decoding?

My NUC has 8GB RAM and SSD .M2 drive.

Thanks in advance for your help!

the title is a bit missleading, so let me explain my setup.

Untitled Diagram.jpg

I've got an intel NUC7i3bnk hooked up to an Onkyo TX-RZ710 receiver.   This, in turn, is hooked up via a 20-25ft HDMI active cable, that in turn is hooked to a wall jack.   The wall jack has a CL2 HDMI 2.0 (18Gbps) cable that runs through the walls + ceiling to another wall jack behind the TV, which in turn has a 3ft HDMI cable hooked to an LG OLED 65" B7A tv.    When I had a Samsung 1080p TV on the wall, there was no issue at all playing videos (I use Plex Media Player embedded on the NUC).   As soon as I replaced the TV, The NUC would refuse to display video on the tv.   At first I thought it was my receiver (I had a TX-NR636 before), so I replaced it with a more modern one, but this didn't improve things.   Then I thought that it might be the HDMI cables (shudder at the thought of replacing the one in the ceiling/walls), so I grabbed my work laptop and plugged it into the  end of the cable coming out of the Onkyo (so as close to the NUC as possible), and TADA!  i get 4K video out from my laptop, so I know it's not the cable from the Onkyo -> wall -> ceiling-> TV.   This led me to deduce it was the NUC, except for I then tried to plug the NUC directly into the TV, and guess what?  It worked. To rule out any of the other cables, I tried placing the NUC behind the first wall jack as well, to rule out the 20ft cable, this did not change things.   The only way I can get it to work is to go directly to the TV.  If it passes through any other cables, it refuses to display any video on the TV.

So now I'm baffled.  I'm running the latest BIOS 0057, as well as I believe 1.66 HDMI firmware (I see a 1.72, but it's a pain for me to update it since I'm running embedded PLEX player, woudl have to reformat with a win10 trial).   It would seem to me that the NUC is having some sort of handsake issue, but I can't explain it.  I've tried both HDMI and using a USB-C to hdmi adapter, I get absolutely ZERO video when I have the NUC take the "long way" to the TV.    I'm still convinced it's some sort of handshake error, but I can't explain it.   Again, the nuc worked fine with a 1080 TV, but as soon as I went native 4k, it suddenly is having problems.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Skull Canyon NUC is not able to turn on monitor after it is turned off due to inactivity Windows 10 x64

I am using a DELL S2718HN/NX monitor connected on HDMI port, but I had similar issues with another brand as well.

If I select in Power Options (Windows 10) the computer to go to Sleep in say 10 minutes when idle,  everything works fine. It goes to sleep and when I press a key it turns back on just fine.

However, I do not want the NUC to go to sleep, just to turn off the monitor (because I use it as media server and I need it on). So I change the configuration to Sleep: Never, Turn display off: 10 minutes.

Now the problem issues: Display is turning off, but when I press a key it does NOT turn on. Everything else is working, but the display is off. I can connect to the NUC with TeamViewer and see the desktop.

From TeamViewer I can put the NUC to sleep and then, when I press a key the monitor turns on fine. Sleep works ok, but display off does not.

What I have noticed by looking into the Device Manager (with team viewer) while the display was off, is that at the moment I press a key to wake up the monitor, the monitor driver switches from PnP Generic Monitor to Non-PnP Generic Monitor, and the monitor remains off.

As stated above, if from this state I put it to Sleep and then press a key, it turns back to PnP Generic and monitor turns on. I have also tried DELL's monitor driver as well but it behaves the same.

Any ideea anyone?

NUC6i7KYK high DPC latency wdf01000.sys

Hey people,

I use the skull canyon as audio computer. 2min after boot and than every 20-30min or so I get audio dropouts in my DAW. I tested with DPC latency checker and it's the wdf01000.sys driver, that causes those problems.

My skull is up 2 date.... all drivers are the newest available and also I made windows (10) updates yesterday.

So, wdf01000.sys is not specific... and I ask myself what I can do to solve this problem. I already tried to deactivate WLAN and Ethernet-drivers in the device manager without success.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

JamesT

Windows 10 Update fails on Skull Canyon

Hello,

Every time I restart my skull canyon for a windows update (ex from windows insider 17040 to 17046), I get a BSOD on reboot, mentioning a winload.efi file missing.

After turning off and on again, I am back to the current version of windows, without any issue.

I reinstalled the system from scratch and the behavior continues...

Any suggestion?

Remote Keyboard Windows app not launching

Hi,

The app won't launch anymore on my computer. I tried reinstalling after an uninstall and reboot, but it just doesn't launch. I see a "cmd" window that quickly open and close. How am I suppose to scan the QR code if the app won't launch?  I've attached the SSU report.

Except for the graphics and LAN drivers, I've applied all of the Intel updates available + remote keyboard Windows app.

Not sure what else I can do at this point...

Thanks in advance for your help.

NUC7i7BNH unusable after Windows 10 update to video driver

I'm running NUC7i7BNH with Windows 10 Creators Update, the latest BIOS (0046), DDR4-2133MHz RAM. No problems after installing the video driver from the Intel site: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26480/NUCs-Intel-HD-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-for-Intel-NUC-Kit-NUC7i3BN-NUC7i5BN-and-NUC7i7BN?product=95065

If I allow Windows Update to install an update for Intel video, the system no longer boots and I have to completely reinstall everything. The temporary workaround is repeatedly block the update as per https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/help/3073930/how-to-temporarily-prevent-a-driver-update-from-reinstalling-in-windows-10

Is there a more permanent workaround as I have to repeatedly use the MSFT tool to block the update? I question why Windows even thinks it needs to update the video driver.

Intel NUC Board NUC7i3DNBE for Embedded solution

Hi,

I want to purchase Intel NUC Board NUC7i3DNBE for Embedded solution.

I want some clarity whether all modules will come from Intel along with board or I have to purchase it separately from 3rd party.

Following are my questions:

  1. As board doesn't ship with Wifi, Is Intel provides WiFi module, if asked for?
  2. We required Storage of 100gb or 500gb. Please provide more details about what kind of storage options available on board? Is Intel provides this memory modules if asked for (like HDD or SSD)?
  3. RAM of 32gb is required. Is Intel provides it?
  4. Is Power adapter comes with the board?

If anyone has any idea then please guide me on this.

With NUC6I5 with Iris 540 (lastest drivers) and Windows 10 I always get video playback not perfectly smooth on boh h264 and h265 videos, Hardware decoder il enagbled and boh cpu and disck usage is really low

Tested with windows mediaplayer, vlc, kodi, plex etc etc. I always get video not perfectly smooth in particular in situation of fullhd video with high movements and details. Seems like GPU can't afford it.

Is there a way to check GPU usage? CPU stays always  low under 20% and I've run video file boh from SSD and External 5400 usb3

NUC NUC7I5BNH won't power off

After installing the Windows 10 Fall Update my NUC7I5BNH won't power off unless I press and hold the power button until it turns off (hard off).

If I shutdown via Windows it just immediately starts Windows back up. I don't even get to the BIOS/UEFI splash screen.

If I press the power button on the front of the NUC the same behavior happens.

NUC5i7ryh and Intel Network Adapter

$

I installed the latest Gigabit Ethernet Network Connection Driver, dated 27-Oct-2017, located here:

Download Intel® Gigabit Ethernet Network Connection Driver for Windows 8.1*, for the Intel® NUC

And it appeared to install without any issues. However, I am concerned about it after looking at the driver Properties page from Network Adapters in Device Manager.  When I look at the network adapter’s Properties page and Driver tab, it shows “Digital Signer: Not digitally signed.” Then, in Driver Details, I can see four files listed, one of which is “C:\Windows\system32\e1d64x64.din”. It shows Unknown for Provider, File version, and Copyright.  These does not seem right to me.

I want to enable the Secure Boot functionality in NUC's BIOS. First, however, I believe that I need to get this issue fixed because, if I am not mistaken, Secure Boot will not work properly with an unsigned driver.  Any advice would be welcome. Thanks.

Why no NUC splash screen via USB-C cable

Forum,

The setup is NUC7i5, Samsung S34E790C display, and a HDMI cable OR USB-C to DisplayPort cable (ALOGIC)

When the display is connected via HDMI cable, on boot I see the "Intel NUC" splash screen then the Windows 10 Home splash screen.  When it is connected via USB-C, on boot the "Intel NUC" splash screen is not displayed then the Windows splash screen is.

When connected via HDMI, BIOS interface displays as expected.  When connected via USB-C, BIOS interface does not display.

Please advise if this is expected behaviour?

Thanks

Shannon

my intel nuc7i5bnh was running windows 10 1703. during the restart process of the update, display was lost. tv reported "invalid format". changed tv settings but still no display. then i tried using a computer monitor which worked just fine. but i primarily use my nuc as a htpc, which is hooked up to the tv via hdmi. is there a solution for this? i can do a system restore and revert back to the earlier version but im afraid that windows update would just automatically reinstall the faulty update. thanks in advance!

NUC 7i5BNH HDMI Audio is not listed as Playback device

$

Hello,

I have a NUC 7i5BNH running under Windows 10 64 bit and can not get the HDMI Audio to work on my monitors.

I have updated all drivers and can see that Intel Display Audio is listed in Device Manager under Sound, video and game controllers but it does not appear in the Sound control dialog.

I have both "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices" selected, but all that shows up are the Realtek devices connected through the audio jack.

I am running one monitor on the native HDMI port and one on the Thunderbolt port.

The Intel Display Audio driver is 10.24.0.1 dated 10/26/2017

The Graphics 640 driver is 23.20.16.4849 dated 10/27/2017

Windows is 10 Pro version 1703 Build 15063.726

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling nd have updated the bios and hdmi firmware to the latest version.

Thanks,
