NUC6CAYH slow USB 3.0 ports

$

I've just bought the NUC so I don't have any previous experiences (benchmarks). I've made all driver updates including latest 42 BIOS. OS is Win10 Pro clean install.

One thing I noticed are slow USB ports. I've tried system SSD to USB, USB to SSD, USB to USB, and the max seq write is 40 MB/s.

I checked/verified BIOS settings, set Power options to High performance, I even re-checked SSD and USB drives but they work fine and fast.

Does anyone have an idea what's wrong? What are your USB speeds?

Thomas

NUC NUC7I5BNH won't power off

After installing the Windows 10 Fall Update my NUC7I5BNH won't power off unless I press and hold the power button until it turns off (hard off).

If I shutdown via Windows it just immediately starts Windows back up. I don't even get to the BIOS/UEFI splash screen.

If I press the power button on the front of the NUC the same behavior happens.

NUC5i5RBY wont boot

My 5th Gen NUC is having a weird boot problem. When connected to the AC adapter the green standby light is lit, but when you press the power button the blue light turns on for around 0.5s, the fan spins, and then both the light and the fan go off, but the green light stays on. The same issue happens in all 4 memory module configurations (2, 1 in either slot, 0). The display doesn't work through my mini display adapter during this process either.

Anyone got any ideas?

Question NUC6i5SYH / bios 063

Hello,

I have a NUC 6i5SYH
I just set up the latest bios (063)
There has been a change since. At the NUC front there is a blue diode.
With the old bios and at startup this diode was all the time blue.
With the bios 063 at startup it is briefly orange then changes to blue.

Is this normal?

If yes, what does the orange color mean?

NUC7i3BNH Issue with HDMI Audio Out

Hi there.

I've come across an annoying issue where the HDMI video is fine but the audio doesn't seem to work on a Samsung UN32EH5300 when paired with a NUC7i3BNH. The audio on the TV has worked fine with both a PS3 and a PS4 as well as an older NUC, the D34010WYKH.

Swapping for a different brand of cable did nothing however switching to different TVs (Samsung HPT5064X/XAC and Sony KDL-37XBR6) did show the audio from the NUC7i3BNH working fine on them.

OS: Ubuntu Mate 16.10

Bios: bnkbl357.86a.0036.2017.0105.1112

I assume this is a bios issue but was wondering if there's anything else I can try.

INTEL NUCi7 3D MVC ISSUE

Coming from Intel NUC DN2820 I was able to play 3D MVC with Kodi with new Intel Media SDK, I just purchased Intel NUC NUC7i3BNK and 3D playback doesn't work.

On the Intel NUC DN2820, the resolution was set 1920X1080p 3D and everything works great

On the Intel NUC NUC7i3BNK either I set the 1920X1080p 3D or  3820X2160p 3D doesn't work

The Intel Media SDK was supposed to allow 3D MVC to work, I did some testing and found the HDMI 2.0 connection is the one causing the issue and any NUC with HDMI 2.0 doesn't work/

NUC7i3BNK screen flickering (1680x1050, 59 or 60hz)

Hi,

After purchasing a NUC7i3BNK for my aunt as a desktop replacement (only some light internet and office work) I installed the NUC on my LG IPS277l (1920x1080) via HDMI. No issues so far.

Unfortunately when installing the NUC at my aunt's screen (a Dell professional 2009W 20" screen with DVI-D and VGA connections) on the NUC's HDMI port with a HDMI to DVI cable the screen starts flickering in certain circumstances.

After some troubleshooting I noticed it only occurs so far on the 1680x1050 resolution (59 or 60hz doesn't make a difference) which is the recommended resolution for this screen. When setting the monitor to a lower resolution it doesn't occur so far.

I believe after reading the forum topics about screen flickering/dropouts that it is a driver related problem, since on other resolutions everything is ok so cables etc. should be fine.

I have already installed the most recent bios (0052) and updated the nuc to all the most recent drivers via the Intel Driver & Support Assistant. Then I tried the recommended older display driver in the main screen flickering topic (4771) and the HDMI 2.0 firmware update, but the flickering is still there.

(just to be clear, the screen stays ON all the time, it just glitches so no black screen on/off as reported with some 4k monitors)

I have uploaded a video of the problem:

NUC7i3BNK screen flickering - YouTube

Hope there is a solution for this problem, thank you in advance for looking into it.

Skull Canyon NUC6i7KYK vs. APC UPS

$

Hello,

I have not definitively figured out my issue just yet, but at first glance it appears that one of my AC Adapters for one of my NUC6i7KYK NUCs may not be liking the battery output of my APC Back-UPS XS 1500 (Model BX1500G).

I have two identical NUC6i7KYK systems, both on the same model of APC UPS.  One is mine, the other is my wife's, in the same room.  I also have a third UPS which keeps my NAS and home network alive, in the case of a power outage.

What occurred:

- Yesterday morning at exactly 8:00am, all three UPS units attempted a self-test (I think).  I believe it happens every 2 weeks.

- The one holding up the NAS and network does fine.

- The one powering my NUC does fine, and I get the notification that the unit passed the self-test through the APC PowerChute app.  I was just doing some light browsing in Chrome at the time.

- My wife's NUC rebooted as if you had yanked the power plug and reinserted it.  She was in the middle of playing Warcraft at the time.

I immediately began checking her UPS.  Was the battery bad?  The UPS unit did not think so.  Was there a real power glitch and did I have the plug misinserted in a "Surge Only" socket?  Nope - it was properly plugged into a socket for battery backup.  When the system came back up, I manually ran the self-test and it passed (but we were not playing Warcraft, or running any heavy loads).

I'm beginning to wonder if the AC Adapter that shipped with these NUCs is sensitive to the "stepped approximated sine wave" output of these UPS units.  Is it possible that under light loads that they work OK, but under heavier workloads they fail and reset themselves?  Do these AC Adapters have active power factor correction?  This is sometimes a problem with the stepped sine wave output of some UPS designs.

I guess for a definitive test, I should run some form of heavy workload and then manually try the UPS self-test procedure again.  Warcraft is running full screen and that's not convenient or consistent.  Is there some form of Windows-based PC stress test I should try?

Thanks

Intel NUC Board NUC7i3DNBE for Embedded solution

Hi,

I want to purchase Intel NUC Board NUC7i3DNBE for Embedded solution.

I want some clarity whether all modules will come from Intel along with board or I have to purchase it separately from 3rd party.

Following are my questions:

  1. As board doesn't ship with Wifi, Is Intel provides WiFi module, if asked for?
  2. We required Storage of 100gb or 500gb. Please provide more details about what kind of storage options available on board? Is Intel provides this memory modules if asked for (like HDD or SSD)?
  3. RAM of 32gb is required. Is Intel provides it?
  4. Is Power adapter comes with the board?

If anyone has any idea then please guide me on this.

IR receiver not working on NUC7i3BNK after startup

I have two NUC7i3BNK that both have the same issue of the ITECIR Infrared Receiver not being detected after startup. It seems to only happen when the units are started by turning on their HDMI monitor or by pressing the power button on a RC6 IR remote. If I press the power button on the unit to turn it on or select restart in windows the ITECIR Infrared Receiver shows up in device manager and a IR remote works normally. When the IR decides not to work, scanning for new devices in device manager makes no difference and the ITECIR Infrared Receiver does not show up under HID. Both units are running windows 10 and didn't have the issue when initially installed.

NUC5CPYH with erratic boot problems (Ubuntu / W7)

$

Hi,

Last week I bought a NUC5CPYH fresh of the shelf with

- 8 Gb Ram DDR3L (Kingston 8GB 1600MHz Low Vo)

- WD Green SSD 120GB 2.5 IN 7mm

- TravelStar SATA HD 1000 Gb (very reliable)

- USB 3.0 stick 32 Gb

and got myself into an unsuspected situation with erratic and continuous boot problems.

I tested the setup with the latest UBUNTU desktop.

During installation sporadic boot problems already showed - the SSD was not always recognized.(approx 4x on 10 boots)

This resulted in no destination to install UBUNTU.

Nonetheless I managed to get UBUNTU running.

I tested the same with a TravelStar HD 1000 Gb, same pattern, the disk was not always recognized.

Also during the install process with a bootable UBUNTU USB.

With this confirmed working I moved on to W7 Pro, suspecting UBUNTU might be the problem.

After the operation of inserting USB3.0 drivers in the USB boot image, I got W7 Pro running.

I know W7 is not ideal as some (non essential) drivers are not available - but confirmed stable on other platforms.

The pattern continued - W7 did not always boot properly, activating the recovery partition on the same install.

This in the SSD drive (TravelStar HD 1000 Gb not yet tested.)

The BIOS has been successfully updated to the latest version currently available prior to installations.

When booted, the HD / SSD is always available.

The NUC boot screen is always there, BIOS is always accessible.

In BIOS the HD / SSD always shows.

I did some reading here - I saw quite a bit of boot problems, some also referring to the NUC5CPYH.
One thread caught my attention - the SATA cable on some NUC units are not standard causing sporadic boot problems.

Is this a hardware problem also occurring for the NUC5CPYH?

Any ideas welcome, I am out of options where to look or what to do.

Last resort is to send the whole lot back as unstable - not preferred at all!

Thanks!

Indra.

NUC6i7KYK Fan always on upon shut down! Help ~ Problem with the HDMI??

$

Recently bought the Skull Canyon Nuc and went through the Windows 10 install /drivers/bios/firmware updates...

After the whole process discovered that after "shut-down" the fan will turn on itself very very high and persists,

but on a restart and the NUC is powered on the fan spins low and quiet, only on high loads do the fan kick in a bit but never full blown like when its shut down.

I tried windows 10 recovery/ another clean windows 10 install/update BIOS again/ re-installation of every single drivers but to no avail trying to figure out the problem.

Until once I unplugged the HDMI cable while the NUC was shut-down the fan stops! Must be a bad update on the HDMI 2.0 Firmware???

~ I messed up updating the HDMI 2.0 firmware on a non Device (Dell U2414H) and crashed, and only after did I do a proper HDMI 2.0 update on a compatible device, thinking it'll be fine.

Firmware updated with a 2.0 HDMI connected device (Samsung 6 series 4K TV), while remaining plugged to the TV the NUC shuts down perfectly with no fan activation.

But once booting in or shutting down while connected to a non HDMI 2.0 Device (Dell U2414H) the fan issue starts again and will become persistent until another update of the 2.0 firmware is done.

HELP!! how do I fix this and is the HDMI firmware issue or do I actually have a faulty unit.

clicking sound from the nuc7i5bnh

hello, since a few days i hear strange noises coming from the nuc.

i can hear it when it loads things, if it works, when it downloads, especially when webm or gif animations are played.

it is like clicking, electrical, i would say like if a hdd is accessed, but it not even has an hdd.

it has a crucial 1tb 2,5sata ssd.

i have the fan/blower on 30% in idle and can hear this noises (without having my ear on the nuc).

i'm not sure if this was there from the beginning. i think not.

i already updated the bios to the newest version and it didn't fixed it.

i'm not sure if this is normal.

NUC6CAYH unable to boot, ring led status stuck in fade mode, BIOS defaults does not solve

$

Hi,

I've been using a linux based tool (GitHub - milesp20/intel_nuc_led: Intel NUC7i[x]BN and NUC6CAY LED Control for Linux ) to change the Ring LED on the NUC6CAYH to different colors and modes.

I may have stumbled upon a situation where the NUC is unable to boot after the ring led has been set to fade instead of being on solid.

To create the problem:

-     Set the ring led to "sw controlled" in the Visual Bios

-     Boot into linux

-     Load the driver and set the ring led to fade slowly in color white

-     Reboot the NUC, it is completely stuck, the ring led is fading slowly white but the UEFI does not seem to go past POST or even offer any options to enter the setup menu

To temporary fix the problem, clear CMOS as suggested here: Clearing CMOS on Intel® NUC

-     Plug AC power in

-     3 second power button trick to get into "safe mode"

-     Enter setup, load defaults (F9) and save

This sets the ring led back to "power status" and makes the NUC bootable again.

Here comes the tricky part:

After booting successfully with the new BIOS settings I rebooted the NUC again and set the ring led back to "SW controlled", thinking it would be back to defaults (off) and boot.

But after saving and rebooting the NUC the ring led is fading slowly white again, I hoped the setting (and possibly bug) would be gone.

Now I am unable to ever set the ring LED back to "SW controlled" since it renders the NUC unbootable.

Could this be a BIOS issue?

I'm running the latest version: "AYAPLCEL.86A.0042.2017.1117.1918"

Sincerely, Koen

Good evening. I would like to open this file which is about  NUC.

Thank you very match...

EDIT:

I have removed your word document and pasted the text below.

Doc

Hello from Greece. My name is Nikos. I ask you very much, I would like you to help with a problem that I am facing.

I want a computer on which I will build all the multimedia of my home on it.  I'll see Netflix UHD 4K 7.1, movies, youtube, tdal, spotify, and more.

I have a space problem and I would like it to be as small as possible, so I thought of the NUC solution.

The specifications I would like to have are:

  1. I7, 7h generation processor,

  1. Graphics card that supports 4K and necessary HDR,

  1. Memory Ram 8, or 12gb.

  1. Have two HDMI outputs,

  1. if it is possible to have audio output, coaxial, or Toshlink (optical fiber).

Please help me by sending me a Link, a NUC that meets the above conditions

There is? or would it be better to build a Tower computer to get the best picture and sound?

Thank you very much!

HI,

I have just bought a nuc7i5bnhx1 and an Intel "512GB SSD Pro 600p Series NVMe M.2.

The problem is that I discover, when I received the products that the only slot M.2 is occupied by the Octane memory.

I would like to know if it's possible, with a converter M.2-Sata , to use the Sata 2.5" connector.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Best Regards
