7i5bn and Hyperx Impact ddr4 2666???

Hi, maybe someone can help me. I bought a 7i5bnh and can want to use a memory with good latency. Unfortunately I can't find 2133 or 2400 Hyperx Impact modules anywhere where I live, only 2666. This would be supposed not to work but if I look at https://www.kingston.com/dataSheets/HX426S15IB2_16.pdf  there is written that this memory has the following JEDEC/PnP parameters (whatever that means):

DDR4-2666 CL15-17-17 @1.2V

DDR4-2400 CL14-16-16 @1.2V

DDR4-2133 CL12-14-14 @1.2V

Does this mean that this module would work in a Intel NUC 7i5bn at 2133 CL 12-14-14?

Thunderbolt support for Dawson Canyon?

I think Intel NUCS are fabulous little machines. When I saw the Dawson Canyon I almost fell off my bed because the hardware is just what I need and the name itself spoke to me. I was about to look at prices until I noticed that it didn't have a Thunderbolt port. For it not having thunderbolt made me turn away from Dawson Canyon because my next PC must have a Thunderbolt port. I saw in a video by Simply NUC that there is an expansion port on the back of Dawson canyon and what better place to ask then here in the Intel forums. Is there a way for Dawson Canyon to support a Thunderbolt Port? Or do I have to wait for Bean Canyon to come out in Q3 2018

Without thunderbolt devices plugged in, everything work fine but...

When i connect to a monitor through thunderbolt port, my HDD connected to front usb port will be disconnected after few minutes.

(I'm using windows 10 64bit and I already installed all lastest firmwares, drivers, bios and restarted my NUC).

Please check it.

Hello and good morning.

2 days ago i got the Biosuptdate from 57 to 61. From this Moment on my NUC cannot wake from S4 or S5 with my IR Command. I have to use Power Toggle 2 or 3 times to wake my NUC.

I replaced BIOS back to 57, but than I have Problems with my Optane and the Nuc doesn't start my windows. BUT, he wake up with the first PowerON command from my IR. After flash to 61 I need 2 or 3 times to wake... Than i change th IR Driver to the last older version, but there is no change...

In some German Boards a few people have the same Problem with NUC6 and 7 after flashing the new Bios...

For me I have a solution to wake my NUC. I use CEC and I can wait for the next BIOS. So use my note as information...

Kind regards

Uwe

NUC 6i7KYK Windows 10 - Headset microphone not being detected despite up-to-date Realtek drivers

$

Hi there,

What can I do to get my Intel NUC 6i7KYK Skull Canyon, running Windows 10 (Home), to detect my gaming headset's microphone audio input?

I have used the Intel automatic driver assistant and can confirm that my Realtek High Definition Audio drivers are up-to-date (6.0.1.7982, Release date: January 18, 2017, Size: 380 MB).

When I plug in my headset, which is this model, I do not get any Realtek Audio Manager pop-up window.

I have to manually click the Speaker icon in the taskbar, and this what I see in the Playback Devices & Recording Devices menus:

pZ9bd3.jpg

I have tested the Headset and it is properly receiving the NUC's stereo audio output.

The settings look like this:

KGC2zR.jpg

However, when I go to the Recording screen, with the Headset's boom mic plugged in correctly, all I see is this:

CHoZdT.jpg

Whatever this "Stereo Mix" thing is, the Intel NUC is detecting it as some sort of microphone or audio input device, because when I use Windows 10's default Voice Recorder application, it successfully records whatever music I'm currently listening to on the headset:

zB4c7y.jpg

And then when I disable the "Stereo Mix", the system does not detect my Headset Boom Mic:

HCabiO.jpg

The same result happens when I try to plug the headset into the front audio jack of the NUC, with my microphone attached to the headset, through a splitter cable (1 x 3.5mm female to 2 x 3.5mm male, headphone + mic separate lines). The headphone stereo audio out still works when using the individual headphone audio splitter cable. But the microphone is not detected when I plug just the splitter's mic jack into the front audio panel of the NUC.

So what can I do to make the headset microphone work?

I have come across similar questions and issues here and here

but neither of these provide solutions.

Could it be that my BIOS needs updating? The automatic Intel Driver assistant says that my BIOS needs updating. I will try download the latest version now and install it and see what happens.Update: No, a BIOS update did not fix the issue.

Update #2: Finally, the headset works, but only through a cheap USB sound card that I have which looks roughly like this:

44948856b16e6328896_f459.jpg

I would still like to know: how can I make the headset work just by plugging the combo, 4-strip 3.5mm jack of the headset into the combo front audio panel of my Intel NUC?

NUC6CAYH HDMI audio issue and USB drive not detected some time

Bought this barebone NUC last week, installed Ubuntu 16.04 with two 4GB RAMs, and 120GB SSD, connected with a 50" LED TV via HDMI. Issues encountered below

1. When audio presents via HDMI output, for some time, it's lost, and no longer to see the HDMI audio output selection within the audio control panel, have to restart the NUC to get it back for selection.

2. I have two 2TB removable SATA (same two 2TB WestDigital HDs, each has one primary partition with MBR volume) harddisks connected via the two USB3.0 ports at the back, in rare cases, both can be detected, and for most of the cases, only one USB harddisk can be detected.

I've upgrade the BIOS to the latest version already, any special settings should be there?

I have installed Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon x64 on NUC7i7BNH.

Today i installed the newest upgrades by typing

apt update && apt -y upgrade

After it i cloned the spectre-meltdown-checker of Github

git clone https://github.com/speed47/spectre-meltdown-checker

The result is shattering: vulnerable!

Is there a tutorial how to protect Intel NUC7i7BNH with Ubuntu against Spectre/Meltdown attack?

Thank you!

inxi -Gx on the command line in Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon x64 is telling me:

Graphics: Card: Intel Device 5927 bus-ID: 00:02.0

Display Server: X.org 1.18.4 drivers: Intel (unloaded: fbdev, vesa)

But the graphic card should be Intel® Iris® Plus Graphics 650

Is there a tutorial how to install the correct graphics driver?

NUC7I3BNH Power State Indicator not working

Dear Community,

I have an issue with my NUC since I upgraded the BIOS to the latest version 0062. After the successful upgrade, the Power State Indictator doesn't work anymore.

It doesn't work when I select the function for the Power Button LED

It doesn't work when I select the function for the Ring LED.

Selection HDD Activity works for both the Power Button LED and the Ring LED, so the components are not broken.

I can even set the Power LED and Ring LED to HDD Activity Indication simultaneously and they will both indicate properly.

Are the any known issues with the BIOS version and the Power State Indicator function?

unreliable HDMI via SC-HTB15 Sound Bar

$

I bought a NUC7i5BNH for use as a home theater system. It is connected to a Samsung UE40D5000 via a Panasonic SC-HTB15 Sound Bar. The sound bar has two HDMI inputs and one HDMI output. It can switch between the two inputs and will decode audio streams itself.

My problem now is that the HDMI video output is not working under all circumstances. I can see the boot screen just fine, but once Windows 10 comes up, the TV loses the signal. The Windows installation was done today while connected to a normal monitor, using an evaluation version of Windows 10 Enterprise. I've not installed any specific drivers. I did update the BIOS to the latest (BNKBL357.86A) and also checked that the HDMI firmware is up-to-date (it was, at 1.72 as reported by the update tool).

I only installed Windows because that's the supported OS for the NUC. What I had tried first was Ubuntu Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS with updated kernel (4.13.0-37-generic) and XFree (xorg-hwe-16.04). There the situation is a bit mixed. The desktop comes up fine. Chromium starts. But loading a web page with images causes the screen to go blank. Killing Chromium brings the display back. In Kodi, the main UI is fine. But as in Chromium, once it the UI contains images, the display goes blank and comes back when returning to a screen without images. Not very useful...

I can avoid all of these issues by connecting the NUC directly to the Samsung TV. But then I lose the ability to do audio decoding in the sound bar.

The HDMI cables have worked flawlessly in this setup with some other, older mini computer.

Any suggestions? I can still return the NUC, but I'd prefer to keep it, because it performs better than my older system.

NUC Samsung Handshake Issue. Solution Yet?

Hi,

Back in May last year I posted about a handshake issue between my Intel NUC7i3BNH and Samsung UA65KS8000 TV.  It seems I am one of many people that have experienced handshake issues between a NUC and a Samsung TV.

After repeated communications with Intel (which included friendly and promising replies) there was no fix and I ended up giving up.  Do you have a fix yet?  Are you trying to fix?  Do you care?

NUC (great product) + Bad Handshake = Unhappy NUC + Intel Not Fixing Unhappy NUC = Unhappy Customer

Genuinely hoping you have a fix.

NUC Hades Canyon - worth to wait?

Hi all,

I would like to know if it is worth to wait for the coming NUC Hades Canyon. From specs like the combined Intel Prozessor/AMD gpu it looks like it could do basic video optimization using madvr which is nice.

My question is if old problems with NUCs will be solved in this new generation like:
1.) 3D mvc incompatibility via HDMI 2.0 since it requires HDMI 1.4 and somehow current NUC 2.0 HDMIs have not been downwards compatible (e.g. see thread https://communities.intel.com/thread/112109?start=255&tstart=0 )
2.) HDR support for video playback as well as streaming services like Netflix/Amazon?
3.) With the new processor/gpu combination will players still be able to use 4k hardware acceleration?
