NUC6i7KYK with ESXi 6.5 VM network Access

I have a NUC6i7KYK running ESXi 6.5 with vmnic 100Mb and a vusb 1000MB. I have vSwitch0 with the VMkernal ports (1) on vmnic0 and vSwitch1 with 3 windows 2012 R2 servers.

The vSwitch1 shows all 3 VM's connected to vusb0 1000 Auto negotiate but only one windows server has a network connection. I have tried different setting as well as moving the a VM to the vSwitcho and still have the same issue.

It seems that the first VM that powers up gets a connection but not the next one. I have VMware tools installed and have tried changing the network adapter to VMXNET 3 with no luck.

Any help would be appreciated.

NUC7i5BNH clone booting problem

Hi all!

I had 2 nuc (NUC7i5BNH). I installed Xubuntu 16.04 in one of them and cloned the hd into the other nuc. Everything worked well. I did the cloning thing a lot of times.

Now I bought other NUCs (NUC7i5BNH) with the same BIOS version (BNKBL537.86A.0045.2017.0417.1728).

If I put an SSD with Xubuntu from my 2 old nucs in those new NUC it doesn't boot. It says: "A bootable device has not been detected".

I tried to install ubuntu 18.04 in the new one and cloned it, but the new installation doesn't work on others NUC but the one where I installed the OS and the old 2.

Is there some kind of option in the bios that prevent from boot an SSD installed from another pc?

Help me please. I can't install ubuntu and a lot of stuff in 20+ NUC. I need to clone it...

NUC8i7HVK fans speed control - resonating

Is there any possibility to set uneven speed for fans? At some point of speed they start to slightly resonate which cause unnecessary increase of noise. If it goes beyond this speed it is back again more quiet.

I would rather want to avoid stuff like Low Noise Adapters so software/bios control will be better (if possible)

Thanks

Radeon RX Vega M GH Thermal Throttling at 65c

I've tried everything that I can think of to resolve GPU thermal throttling that I'm observing at 65c with no luck. I first performed a clean install of the graphics drivers, then I reset the BIOS, then I resorted to a full OS reinstall, nothing helped. The GPU is most certainly thermal throttling and can't maintain it's core clock at 1190 Mhz, any benchmark or game that I run will progressively run slower within a short period of time after starting it. It fails a Fire Strike Stress Test with a 93% with the fans turned up. I also tried manually setting the max temperature to 80c in WattMan. I don't understand what's happening here.

Has anyone else seen something similar with their new NUC8i7HVK?

I'm using the following.

BIOS: 0037

Graphics Driver: 2048

Windows 10 Home Version: 1803

NUC5i5RYH - HDMI no signal on HDTV

Hi,

I have the NUC5i5RYH which I've been using for a long while now. It's been on working most of the TV's that I've had.

I've now purchased a Samsung Q7F tv. One the first day of plugging in to the TV using the mini-HDMI port, the NUC had some trouble but eventually worked.

I've not been able to get it working again since. The TV reports no signal (no audio or video) from source. It registers that there is a device connected, but doesn't actually display anything.

I've connected the NUC to an older TV using the same cable, and it's working.

I'm assuming this is related to HDMI handshake of some sort?

Does anyone have some advice on what to do to resolve the issue?

I've done restarts, disconnects and reconnects of the HDMI cable. I've update the display drivers and bios to the latest versions.

After updating the BIOS incorrectly creates a table MSDM utility ITK6.efi

Device NUC6CAYH made 04.05.2017. BIOS 29. Licensed MS DOEM necessary in BIOS (table MSDM) to record the activation key. Use the utility ITK6.EFI - the table is created, the key is written, itk6 shows that everything is OK. The final step, Windows should send proof to the cloud utility OA3TOOL. So oa3tool utility does not find key in table MSDN if all operations are performed on devices with the new BIOS is newer than the version 29. Version 29 all passes, with the newer BIOS table is not created correctly (tried version 45, then 47). Exactly the same thing is happening with devices NUC5CAYx. The support gave nothing, the second month of silent, the only sent me a VB script to see the key in the registry Windows. The problem is not solved until now. To focus on the old BIOS is not suitable, tomorrow may come the device with a new BIOS and then I can't use DOEM activation.

CEC Problem: Turn on NUC when TV is turned on does not work.

Hello from Germany.

With bios version 0038 my Intel NUC6cayh wakes from S3/S4/S5 power state when TV is turned on.

After updating to BIOS 0048 my TV (Philips 42PFL7655K) recognizes the NUC as new CEC

device when CEC (Philips EasyLink) is turned on, but the NUC does not wake up when TV is turned on,

respectively when the connected hdmi device is selected. Downgrading to BIOS version 0042 did not

solve the problem.

I have tried the following setting in BIOS:

Advanced -> Devices -> VIDEO -> IDG Primary Video Port  set to HDMI

-> HDMI CEC Control -> Checked

-> TV HDMI Port HDMI 1

                    -> Wake On TV -> From S3/S4/S5

Fast Boot and Deep S4/S5 are disabled in BIOS Setup.

If Auto Turn On TV is enabled the TV turns on when NUC is turned on but the other way does not work.

Any advice on what to do would be appreciated or is there a safe way to go back to bios version 0038.

Thanks in advance

NUC7i3BNH and disabling xhci

$

Hi there,

We have a bunch of NUC7i3BNH intended to be used in production for testing usb (2.0) devices. All NUCs run latest Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. When we connect a 49 port USB hub (which is a usb 2.0 hub) with about 40 devices connected to it, to a NUC, it "accepts" about 26 devices (+ a usb keyboard), creates devices in /dev/ as it should, but then complains:

[ 3867.140383] xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: Error while assigning device slot ID

[ 3867.142756] xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: Max number of devices this xHCI host supports is 64.

[ 3867.145013] usb 1-2.4.6-port2: couldn't allocate usb_device

So it seems we hit some sort of xHCI limitation. The solution I found on the internet is to disable xHCI mode in BIOS, so that linux would use slower eHCI mode/drivers, which support many more USB devices compared to xHCI. The problem is - there is no such option in BIOS.

I compiled a custom kernel (4.4.6) with disabled "xHCI HCD (USB 3.0) support" and left "EHCI HCD (USB 2.0) support" enabled, but NUC booted without any USB support at all, i.e. usb keyboard/mouse did not work, nor did the wired networking. Any solution to all this ?

Thanks.

Frequent screen blanking with Intel Graphics driver on Win10-1803

$

I have seen several topics about people experiencing different forms of the screen blanking to black with NUCs. One of them with the NUC6CAYH, which was solved with v.45 of the BIOS.

It now also manifests after installing the latest Intel Graphics driver v.15.65.4.4944 with Windows 10 v.1803 on a NUC6CAYH with all the latest drivers and the latest BIOS v.49. Pretty frequently the screen blanks for about 1.5 seconds. Downgrading the BIOS to v.48 or v.47 has no effect. Uninstalling the Intel driver and reverting to the Microsoft Driver removes the screen blanking again. Version 45 of the BIOS is not available for downloading anymore but of course the problem shouldn't have been re-introduced in later versions. For the purpose of elimination I had wanted to test that version.

For the moment it would appear this might be caused by the recent v.1803 of Windows 10 for which the BIOS fix may not work anymore. I believe I experienced it shortly too with Win10-1709 which was then solved by upgrading the BIOS to the then latest v.47 but with the latest Windows 10 version it seems to be back.

Just bought this thing and so far I am very very disappointed in All THE PROBLEMS.  It won't recognize the supposedly built in wifi  AC-9462 . sound output nor the bluetooth 5.0.  It is nearly impossible to get help from Intel. I am running windows 8.1 and I realize Intel recommends Windows 10 but the two operating systems are very close.  Any ideas on how to fix this problem - ?  Will the NUC NOT run correctly without windows 10 -?

Intel Hades Canyon : NUC8i7HVK : Windows 10 : How can I get it to play back HDR 4K HEVC 10bit content?

$

Hello Nuccers,

I had a Skull Canyon and ran into issues with the Intel GPU not supporting playing back Bluray 3D content (iso files)  and that it also never supported HDR. When I heard about Hades Canyon, I thought, "Fantastic! An Intel NUC with a decent GPU which should be able to deal with HDR etc.,".

I got the unit last Friday, installed everything easily and then set about trying to get it to playback HDR content. A few details about where I am currently:

1. The unit is connected to my TV an LG OLED55E6V (2016) using one of the HDMI ports on the back of the unit.

2. The OS is Windows 10 Pro, fully activated, fully updated.

3. In Windows 10, in the display settings I have HDR toggled on (HDR & WCG).

4. Upon enabling this I have a washed image on the TV screen. The TV correctly reports a HDR flag, but all the colours look washed out.

5. Looking in the Radeon driver settings, I noted that using the colour mapping BT2020 has washed out colours, but swapping to BT709 leads to colours on the desktop which I consider normal. I have been informed the BT2020 is the correct colour setting for HDR...... (in any case the driver does not save the setting and everytime you reboot it defaults to BT2020.)

6. In the Radeon driver settings, suspiciously under colour depth, I only had 8 bit enabled and available. The screen was being driven at 60Hz and I remember reading somewhere in the past that my LG screen from 2016 can only support 10/12bit colour depth at 30Hz and below, so have currently set the refresh rate manually to 24Hz and now have 10 bit colour enabled. Still looks washed out......

7. So Windows 10 is telling me that HDR is enabled and the TV also shows me the HDR flag correctly.

8. In terms of trying to play back content, I initially used MPV, but after some testing realised it only supports SDR content, after investigating more it would appear there are some options which might work:

          a. Cyberlink PowerDVD 18 Ultra - I upgraded a license I previously had, but it stubbornly refuses to playback HDR content, it would appear from checking other forums that HDR support is limited to Nvidia cards and (irony alarm) Intel GPUs. It plays back SDR content.

          b. Microsoft films and TV - In my case it just produces a black screen......

          c. MadVR + MPC - I have not tried this, this setup is far too fiddly and involves changing registration settings to get from the right settings for SDR to HDR and back again depending on what content you want to playback.

          d. VLC 3.0+ - Tried this and it just seemed to playback content in SDR.

So I cannot get the unit at this time to playback HDR 4K HEVC 10 bit content. This is not the end of the world for me, I currently use an AppleTV with Infuse and that is producing amazing looking content, but I have always had a Windows HTPC and hoped to be able to continue that trend.

Any ideas? Am I trying to do something that the unit should be able to or not be able to do? Am I jumping the gun and need to wait for the Vega drivers to mature a bit? Or for AMD 4K support to properly come online? I read the following:

AMD's PlayReady 3.0 In Polaris, Vega GPUs, APUs to Enable 4K HDR Streaming on PC | TechPowerUp

Thanks for any input.

NUC7CY* Software Controlled Led?

Hi,

We are using the rectangle led on NUC6CAY to show system status to customers. Now I noticed that NUC7CY* miss this feature and show a little HDD led instead. Is it possible to change setting in bios to "software control" this led?

Thanks

Sideways Vesa Mount

This is perhaps a silly question. Are there any issues with Vesa mounting the NUC8i7HVK sideways on the back of the monitor?

If I install the bracket with the arrows pointing up, then the computer covers the power and HDMI jacks on the back of my monitor. Installed sideways (with the narrow part of the keyholes down) everything fits. I can't really imagine what problems this could cause.

Can USB and SATA Header +5 Power Rails be Merged?

$

For Intel NUC7i7DNHE, is it possible to somehow combine/merge the 5V power rail from the two internal USB 2.0 ports and the SATA power header to get a total of 5V 3A power source?

If they cannot be directly merged into a single power rail, would a Current Balancing Controller be sufficient to combine both power sources?

Thanks,
